I can confirm that we are seeing this same behavior: "I am getting the list of users from the server just fine. I can ypcat passwd and I get the list of users from the server. However, none of the NIS accounts can log in. Only local accounts can login. My other machines are still using 6.10 and they are working fine. SO I know the passwords are correct, still cannot log in." We have been debating between Ubuntu Feisty and FC7 as potential upgrades from FC5 which is EoL now. Getting this fixed would help our decision, as we use NIS for the workstations in our lab. Local accounts work as expected I should add (my account is local) and I do see it in /etc/passwd and listed as a member of some groups in /etc/groups. It seems to matter for me what CD is in the drive. I can trigger it on every boot with one CD (Civilization 4). I am unable to trigger it on boot with Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. I have not tried others. I can confirm that I do not have an ipod or iphone, but I do get this error with certain CDs in the drive (as described above). It is reproducible with the given CD and does not occur without it.
