[Bug 365461] Re: Evolution hang on startup

2009-08-05 Thread Brendan_P
I ended up restoring a backup of my Evolution folder and all was fine
from there. I'm not sure of the cause of the issue but that work around
was acceptable for me as I ha daily backups and it got me back up and
running.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

Cheers
Brendan

[Bug 294092] Re: tg3 transmit timeout in Intrepid

2009-09-21 Thread Brendan_P
Hi All,

I use the tg3 driver on a Dell Studio XPS 16;

"Tigon3 [partno(BCM95784M) rev 5784100 PHY(5784)] (PCI Express)
10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet"

I'm hoping this issue is related to along standing and completely
baffling issue I have. I cannot maintain a steady through put over the
LAN device, wireless is fine and other machines are fine so suspect this
driver/card is the culprit.

Here is a attached screenshot, lshw to follow.

Here is my post on the matter:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1173499

If it's not related then I'll open another bug.

Thanks in advance for your time and effort.

Correct, it happened with upgrade of fglrx on the 01/04. Complete remove

Hesitant to mess with it now that all is fine, especially during the

Says dup of https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/530605 but as they seem to
be talking about other services like samba I'm going to comment here.

Same issues with 0.6.3-0ubuntu2 installed.

Running qwibber and evolution at time.

[Bug 494699] Re: Does not support current Lucid kernel (2.6.32) or xserver (1.7)

2010-03-31 Thread Brendan_P
After running updates from yesterday I get the following error on start-
up this morning

(EE) Unable to initialise PCS database
(EE) Missing PCS defaults file /etc/ati/amdpcsdb.default
(EE) No devices attached

Running "sudo aticonfig --initial" gives "Unable to open /etc/ati/control,
please reinstall the driver.
aticonfig: No supported adapters detected"

All was 100% before the update

Using Synaptic, I completely removed fglrx packages, restarted,
reinstalled them. This solved the issue for me. Rough ride to have

[Bug 537984] [NEW] package otrs2 2.4.7-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 255

2010-03-12 Thread Brendan_P
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: otrs2

Was doing a basic test on this application to see if it was suitable for
our ticket system purposes.

Installed with recommends from command line on latest Desktop Lucid 32
bit build running in a virtualbox virtual machine. Seems to have
installed fine as I can access it via a browser and play around.

Just flagging in case it's more serious for other users.

Correct, it installed with otrs on the same virtual machine.

Seems it set-up postgres ok though as I'm able to access and play around
with the otrs interface fine with no errors. Very minimal testing done,
was just a quick look and see.

[Bug 392477] Re: [needs-packaging] OpenCPN

2010-06-13 Thread Brendan_P
Hi Folks,

Just wanted to check-in and see the status of this. Do we think the
package will be in Lucid repos soon? I'm pretty inexperienced and have
been struggling to get the package to build in lucid so to have it in
the repos would be a blessing.

This would be a invaluable tool to us folks down here, as we spend a lot
of time on boats fishing and sailing and a few of us fish for a living.

Happy to test if required.

Thanks for the hard work.

Cheers
Brendan

[Bug 537596] Re: [regression] Unable to shut down, login screen keeps coming up

2010-03-20 Thread Brendan_P
I'm seeing this in lucid with the latest packages installed as of 20/03.

Same behaviour as in description. Only possible to shutdown the machine
using the command line, e.g sudo shutdown -h now, which then works as
expected. Graphic shutdown from usermenu logs you out of your session
but does not halt/reboot. Login in screen is displayed and
shutdown/reboot options do not work.

[Bug 461212] [NEW] Erratic throughput/interrupt on NetLink BCM5784M Gigabit Ethernet PCIe with tg3 driver

2009-10-26 Thread Brendan_P
Public bug reported:

Having a odd issue with my wired connection. I'm connecting and able to
browse the Internet, home LAN etc.

The odd thing is that I cannot maintain a steady throughput of data... I

Looks like it may be interrupted.

Thought it may be related to this bug

MTU has no affect.

[Bug 417842] Re: WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.31/kernel/power/suspend_test.c:52 suspend_test_finish+0x7c/0x80()

2009-10-27 Thread Brendan_P
Hi All,

Same symptoms for me on a Dell Studio XPS 16 running ATI non-free
drivers.

Another issue, trying to see if this related, is that on resume, both my
external display and laptop display are activated even though I'm using
only external display normally. I have to logout and log back in to
reset config. Kind of defeats the object of suspend/resume.

Cheers

[Bug 410937] Re: hamster-applet crashed with TypeError in __init__()

2009-10-16 Thread Brendan_P
Affects me on Karmic, patches as of 15/10.

When licking the "overview" button the app "crashes", however it's still
seems to be functioning correctly in the panel, i.e. till works fine.
Just seems to be related to the overview screen that does not pop up.

Cheers
B

Hey guys. I'm going to be just a little bit off topic, but it seems that
this is the only place where this critical issue is being debated. I'm
disappointed not to find any reviews (along with suggestions) of this
issue on any tech site.

I've discovered Ubuntu right when Jaunty came out, and to my (un)luck, i
have a Toshiba laptop with an ATI Mobility Radeon 2600 HD. So i have the
same problems as you guys. I applied the backfill patch, but soon got
fed up with the still-sluggish environment, and the difficulty in doing
routine tasks that require more than just a bit of video power (tabs,
IDEs, videos etc) , that on Windows were not a problem.

So i decided to put Ubuntu for a nap until it was properly fixed. I had
it as a second booter, but mainly used Windows and reguraly checked for
updates on this issue..

Now, after a very nightmareish night of trying to install Visual Studio,
that ended up tearing down the whole syhen stem (i'm not a beginner but
this is ridiculous), i've decided to leave leave windows behind and make
the best out of a linuxbased OS.

The problem is, i really really wish this issue would go away. I know i
can simply disable desktop effects, but that doesn't mean that i have
full videocad support, and the system will still lag when i need it the
most. That's why i invested in a better laptop after all.

So what should i do? Is this problem persistent throughout other linux
distros? Is Debian or Fedora or another one free of this bug? Or can i
successfully go back prior to Jaunty, to an older version, and not have
problems with all the new apps? (i'm scared by the thought of constantly
having dozens of New Updates that i'm not allowed to touch)

I need alternatives, and i apologise if it's off topic, but i really did
not find what i was looking for anywhere else.

[Bug 1886672] [NEW] Multiple screen display issues

2020-07-07 Thread Brendan_P
Public bug reported:

New bug for me. Issue was fine till last week. I think this may be
related to the following as it started happening shortly thereafter.

I have XPS13 with second monitor, all working fine till I lock screen or
suspend. Then my second monitor will not 'resume'. I.e. stays off.

This behaviour started after (or shortly after) playing a wine game
using Lutris to launch. Shutting game down and almost immediately
hitting suspend on the laptop. Was rushing out.

It's a wild shot in the dark but I think something got messed up / not
saved correctly in this process.

To get it working I need to unplug monitor (using USB-C > HDMI) >
suspend > plug in monitor > resume and sometimes still need to open
display settings before it 'kicks in'. Damn annoying. Hope someone can
help :)

[Bug 1875045] Re: Ubiquity 20.04 exports existing ZFS pools

2020-07-10 Thread Brendan_P
Hello Folks,

I think I experienced this bug upgrading Ubuntu from 18.04 > 20.04 last
night. If not, apologies.

Adding some additional testing to my above comments.

*When second monitor is not removed*, i.e. remains connected, lock
screen/suspend resume all restore display as expected after latest
updates as suggested by Daniel in above linked dup.

Plugging display out, gnome adjusts to single screen settings as
expected. But plugging back the second monitor in does nothing.
Restarting gnome-shell resets displays as expected. I.e. working.

Also note not working in #26 regarding resuming laptop after plugging in
screen.

[Bug 876627] Re: Mismatched corner in multi-monitor configuration

2012-04-24 Thread Brendan_P
Quick update on this.

Still present with 3.4.1-0ubuntu1

However I followed a tip from the bug report linked in #10
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
shell/+bug/964796/comments/4)

Switching OFF "Have file manager handle desktop" fixes the issue.

So seems to be related to this feature, "Have file manager handle
desktop".

[Bug 969796] [NEW] screencast recording does not record sound

2012-03-30 Thread Brendan_P
Public bug reported:

Hi Folks,

Just wanted to file this in case it's not been flagged.

Screencast recording works as intended save one hiccup, it's not
recording sound.

Using Kazam (https://launchpad.net/kazam) I had to change the sound
input to make it record sound correctly and I'm guessing this may be a
similar issue. However I'm stumped as to how to change sound input for
the screen recorder hence the bug report.

Cheers
Brendan

[Bug 876627] Re: Mismatched corner in multi-monitor configuration

2012-03-02 Thread Brendan_P
Not sure if this is related, if someone could let me know if need to
open another bug.

After using a second screen, I have one persistent (extra, over and
above the normal behaviour) desktop that will not "close" or cannot be
removed.

I.e. so if I was only using one desktop, there would be the default
additional "spare", but also this additional desktop that is only
present after using a dual screen set-up and returning to single default
screen (laptop).

2012-02-11 Thread Brendan_P
Hi Chow,

Just a quick note to add some additional log info. The attached log is
on song change to flac (14:53), the track loads but does not play.
Moving the position slider forward then back to beginning of song start
playback. I exited the application manually.

I'll try your suggestions tomorrow and give some more feedback.

[Bug 917035] Re: Banshee stops playing on song change to flac/ogg type files, sometime application freezes on song change (any file type)

2012-02-14 Thread Brendan_P
Ok so some progress:

- Banshee no longer randomly hangs on song change
- Flac & mp3 files play with no problems

Confirmed reproducible behaviour:

- Song change TO song in ogg format results in banshee play "pausing".
It will not start the song unless I manually move the song progress
slider. The song then plays. It also stops playing after completion of
the ogg file.

@chow I don't think this is a addon issue. But will try your suggestions
and report back tomorrow.

[Bug 1328381] [NEW] evolution "looses" write permission on remote authenticated caldav calendar intermittently

2014-06-09 Thread Brendan_P
Public bug reported:

I have a series of CalDAV calendars on my owncloud install. I access
them via Evolution and mostly it works well. However intermittently
Evolution will loose the abilty to write to these calendars. Perhaps 1-2
times a week. Can't determine a pattern but all seems fine with the
owncloud side as my mobile is able to still write at the same time as
eveolution looses write access.

Killing evolution, evolution-sourc, evolution-calen, evolution-alarm and
then restarting evolution resolves the issue.
