The same happened on my Ubuntu Studio 10.04, the quick fix provided by embecka works. I had to dpkg-reconfigure --force ubuntustudio-plymouth- theme using that method with recent http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/u/ubuntustudio-look /ubuntustudio-look_0.38.2.tar.gz source. Same here after upgrade to 9.10 from 9.04 on FSC Amilo Si 1520 (Wubi on Vista). Fortunately the system can be powered off (well, at least forced to do so). Also, the real --quiet argument (listed in the man's command summary as -q) is not really supported by the script. This also affects my Amilo Si 1520 32-bit machine. Restarting the bluetooth daemon does the trick. People complain about that on alt.os.linux.ubuntu newsgroup as well.
