[Bug 449529] Re: unable to configure network connection using wired ipv4 manual method

2010-02-11 Thread Ard
I have same problem on ASUS k52jr laptop.
I try install xubuntu 9.10 i386 and have no problem with network - all works
fine.
Under windows 7 all works fine too.
But under ubuntu 9.10 amd64 - not any wired connection aviable.
When I manualy setup /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/resolv.conf. After that
ifconfig show right IP properties but network still won't work.

Command "sudo lshw -C network" show:
...
Ethernet interface: JMC250 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller
bus info: p...@:05:00.5
logical name: eth0
... etc

Uhm, not really.

You don't have any out of tree live patching code in your kernel, right?

[Bug 1705947] [NEW] crash in libvte when dealing with large amounts of data

2017-07-23 Thread Ard Biesheuvel
Public bug reported:

On an arm64 system (Cortex-A57 based AMD Overdrive), dumping a lot of
data to a gnome-terminal window crashes the gnome-terminal-server
process.

For instance, doing something like

will crash within a matter of seconds with the following backtrace

The crash is caused by a failed assertion, i.e., that uncompress()
returns Z_OK. I have managed to debug it a bit, and it appears that
uncompress returns Z_DATA_ERROR because the compressed input is
corrupted, and interestingly, consists of all zeroes.

Note that this is an arm64 system, which has a weakly ordered memory
model, so this could be a synchronization issue.

The exact same bug has been reported here, running on an arm64 based
Chromebook.

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=862591

The reason I am reporting this against glib2.0 and not vte2.91 is that
the issue only occurs on zesty (not on yakkety), and the version of vte
between the two is identical.

Yeah, this is the one I was referring to.

This may be related to issues we encountered with LTO. Could you use the
GCC49 profile instead? The only difference between GCC49 and GCC5 is
whether LTO is enabled, they can both be used with a GCC that is in fact
6.x

[Bug 1527982] [NEW] segfault when building for aarch64 target

2015-12-20 Thread Ard Biesheuvel
Public bug reported:

When Clang itself is built with GCC 5 or later, it may crash when
building for the aarch64 architecture if the following patch is not
applied

https://www.marc.info/?l=llvm-commits&m=142918476428427&w=4

This applies to wily only: vivid uses GCC 4.9, and xenial already has
the above patch applied.

It is currently unknown whether upstream clang will do another release
on the 3.6 branch, but if that happens, this fix will be included as
well.

Reproduce:

clang -target aarch64 -c -o DxePcdLib.o DxePcdLib.i

[Bug 1252288] [NEW] sbsign failure in the presence of zero sized sections

2013-11-18 Thread Ard Biesheuvel
Public bug reported:

EFISTUB zImages for ARM64 contain two sections, a dummy .reloc section
and a .text sections covering the entire payload.

When attempting to sign such a zImage, sbsign fails in the
image_find_regions() like so

Starting program: /home/ard/build/sbsigntool-0.6/src/sbsign --key server.key
--cert server.crt ~/linux-arm/arch/arm64/boot/Image
warning: gap in section table:
(null)  : 0x893bfd01 - 0x893bfd01,
.text   : 0x01a0 - 0x0201,

This is caused by the loop in this function, which skips NULL sections
but still increments 'i', causing the contiguity check to become
invalid.

The following patch solves the issue for me.

[Bug 1102107] Re: Add basic arm64 support into OpenSSL

2013-05-02 Thread Ard Biesheuvel
Hi Riku,

I am in touch with the OpenSSL maintainer who authored most of the
assembler code in OpenSSL (for all architectures).

ARMv8 versions will likely be done in collaboration with him, including
(NEON) accelerated versions of SHA and AES (as the crypto extensions on
v8 are optional). I will keep you informed about when any of this is
expected to appear upstream.

[Bug 1452314] Re: TZ=EDT date reporting misleading times

2021-03-29 Thread Ard van Breemen
I can confirm that this is still the case...
On an ubuntu 20.04:
```
ard@lenny:~$ TZ=US/Eastern date
Mon Mar 29 09:08:43 EDT 2021
ard@lenny:~$ TZ=America/New_York date
Mon Mar 29 09:08:47 EDT 2021
ard@lenny:~$ TZ=EDT date
Mon Mar 29 13:08:51 EDT 2021
ard@lenny:~$ TZ=EST date
Mon Mar 29 08:16:16 EST 2021
ard@lenny:~$ TZ=NNN date
Mon Mar 29 13:16:26 NNN 2021
ard@lenny:~$ TZ= date
Mon Mar 29 13:16:31  2021
```
on trusty:
```
ard@trusty:~$ TZ=EDT date
Mon Mar 29 13:17:27 EDT 2021
ard@trusty:~$ TZ=US/Eastern date
Mon Mar 29 09:17:38 EDT 2021
ard@trusty:~$ TZ=EST date
Mon Mar 29 08:17:45 EST 2021
ard@trusty:~$ TZ= date
Mon Mar 29 13:17:51  2021
ard@trusty:~$ TZ=America/New_York date
Mon Mar 29 09:18:27 EDT 2021
ard@trusty:~$ TZ=xxx date
Mon Mar 29 13:18:46 xxx 2021
ard@trusty:~$ TZ=xxx date
Mon Mar 29 13:18:50 xxx 2021
ard@trusty:~$ TZ=CET date
Mon Mar 29 15:19:30 CEST 2021
ard@trusty:~$ TZ=CEST date
Mon Mar 29 13:19:34 CEST 2021
ard@trusty:~$ TZ=UTC date
Mon Mar 29 13:21:31 UTC 2021
```

So timezone setting using the name EDT are broken. The only way to get EDT is
to use US/Eastern or America/New_York .
Personally I think it's a bug to not accept EDT (might be ambiguous), and an
even bigger bug to just echo the TZ if the TZ is actually unknown.

[Bug 1720131] Re: logind holds open file descriptor to DRI nodes, preventing nvidia suspend

2019-04-26 Thread Ard van Breemen
The bug prevents use of systems "blessed" with nvidia optimus.
It has been fixed however.
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/6908

I hope the fix can be incorporated into bionic, because it would be sad to have
an LTS release that can not turn of the nvidia GPU without rebooting the system.
Of course the fix is to upgrade to systemd 238, and the new bugs in 238 are
fixed in 238+10.

[Bug 1388960] Re: libnss-ldap packaged with dangling symlinks

2015-01-07 Thread Ard van Breemen
I force installed the armhf build of libnss-build for vivid on my trusty
install, and it basically works, except for the update-rc.d line in the
postinst, which contains incompatible syntax.

So:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/libnss-ldap_265-3ubuntu2_armhf.deb
works stable on trusty armhf.

I will try to recompile it on trusty and see if the update-rc.d line
will be downgraded to the trusty syntax, and that the remainder also
works.

If that works, I suggest releasing it for 14.04 armhf, since the current
libnss-ldap for armhf is broken. Even with my patch :-(.

[Bug 1388960] Re: libnss-ldap packaged with dangling symlinks

To make the package work on trusty, you have to change debian/rules:
override_dh_installinit:
dh_installinit -- start . stop 20 0 1 6 .

should be:

override_dh_installinit:
dh_installinit -- stop 20 0 1 6 .

as update-rc.d gets confused by the empty start.

[Bug 1388960] [NEW] libnss-ldap packaged with dangling symlinks

2014-11-03 Thread Ard van Breemen
Public bug reported:

On armhf libnss-ldap is packaged with dangling/incorrect symlinks:

This is on ubuntu 14.04/trusty:

root@ubuntudev:~/poep/q# ls -al /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libnss_ldap*
/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/*ldap*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root13 Jul 18  2012 /lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/nss_ldap.so
-> nss_ldap.so.1
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 55640 Jul 18  2012 /lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/nss_ldap.so.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root41 Jul 18  2012
/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libnss_ldap.so ->
/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libnss_ldap.so.2

This is on debian jessie:
ard@odroid3:~$ ls -al /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libnss_ldap*
/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libnss_ldap*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 55548 Dec  7  2013
/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libnss_ldap-2.17.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root19 Dec  7  2013
/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libnss_ldap.so.2 -> libnss_ldap-2.17.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root41 Dec  7  2013
/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libnss_ldap.so ->
/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libnss_ldap.so.2

(same architecture, actually, jessie is the lxc host and ubuntudev is
the lxc container)

This bug is kinda critical, since armhf is rolling out more and more,
and the package just does not work.

Regards,
Ard van Breemen

[Bug 1388960] Re: libnss-ldap packaged with dangling symlinks

2014-11-03 Thread Ard van Breemen
Hi,

This could be a dup of #1022903, as it seems that nss itself is looking
for libnss_.so.2 instead of libnss_.so .

Hmm,  yes,
ln -s nss_ldap.so /lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libnss_ldap.so.2
fixes the problem.

The problem is the same as in #387576
libnss-ldap doesn't recognize armhf as a debian glibc system.
There are a lot of kludges in there about glibc. Isn't it easier just to merge
debian libnss-ldap?

[Bug 1388960] Re: libnss-ldap packaged with dangling symlinks

2014-11-03 Thread Ard van Breemen
The biggest problem with the packages is that the original source contains a
configure script.
And that the autoreconf.patch patches the configure script. Making obsolete the
fix-glibc-test-for-armel-gnueabi.patch patch.
I patched the autoreconf.patch with attached patch.
Now on to the next bug...

If you go upstream (as in debian upstream), that works.
Then you can ignore my patch, since my patch opened up another
segfault somewhere...

If you want me to test stuff on armhf, let me know, since this is
only an ubuntu build server.

[Bug 1014717] Re: e17 crashes when opening Accessories menu

2012-09-23 Thread Ard van Breemen
I got the same bug with Ubuntu 12.04: menu->applications->accessories -> crash.
Actually every place that listed applications: if you scrolled past gedit, e17
crashed.
I've worked around it by de-installing gedit and gedit-common. Now it doesn't
crash.
If I am correct it was a bad list handling somewhere, and has already been
fixed upstream.

This is a generic e17 bug, I am working on a toshiba ac100 with a tegra2
chipset (ARM platform).

[Bug 1014717] Re: e17 crashes when opening Accessories menu

2012-09-23 Thread Ard van Breemen
Hmmm,
I also had to mv /usr/share/applications/xdiagnose.desktop out of the way.
I am not really sure what triggers it.
If I put that file in ~/.local/share/applications/
and then try to add that to my favorites, it crashes again.
It's not the .svg file, since I made a launcher with that icon.

[Bug 1014717] Re: e17 crashes when opening Accessories menu

2012-09-23 Thread Ard van Breemen
Sorry for this spamming.
It definitely is the .svg despite my earlier statements. I think if you select
an icon by svg it gets cached. If you put a desktop file with
/usr/share/xdiagnose/icons/microscope.svg as the icon, and then try to add that
one, it will crash.
Using /usr/share/unity/5/lens-nav-video.svg as a replacement icon makes e17
"stable".
So the crash occurs somewhere in parsing the icon file of xdiagnose and gedit.

[Bug 1014717] Re: e17 crashes when opening Accessories menu

2013-05-25 Thread Ard van Breemen
Actually I can't use it, because the e17 PPA doesn't build for arm... I
have to build it myself.

But updates to 13.04 seems to have resolved this.
I will check this again.
