[Bug 150370] Re: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.7.195-1ubuntu1 causes blank screen

2007-10-08 Thread Angelo Lisco
Hi guys,
I have a Dell Latitude C640 with an ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 graphic card.
I'm experiencing problems with the last update of the ati driver: when X
starts, gdm login screen is very corrupted...it seems that the monitor is
out-of-sync. I just tried to lower the screen resolution down to 1024x768
without success.
This is a regression since i had no problems at all with 1:6.7.194-1ubuntu1
Timo, I will test your package as soon as possible!

2007-10-08 Thread Angelo Lisco

Hi guys,
as i just mentioned here
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22/+bug/138915/comments/13),
a unionfs bug prevents the use apt and all the frontends such as
synaptic,gnome-app-install,etc in the live session.

I think we have to raise the importance of bug 138915 to release-critial!!!
so this is clearly a duplicate of bug 138915.

[Bug 108527] Re: X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards

2007-10-11 Thread Angelo Lisco
So Michael Vogt has just released a new version of compiz package which
blacklist some ati mobility cards (X300,X600,X700).
I think this was the right way to go since the problem cannot be easily fixed.
Thank you, Michael

compiz (1:0.6.0+git20071008-0ubuntu1) gutsy; urgency=low
 .
   * New git snapshot:
 - properly fix bug to never stack under the desktop window (LP: #147943)
 - fixes in the internal stack representation, this fixes the issue
that sometimes windows are put over or under panel windows
   * debian/patches/026_fix_stacking:

sysrq+alt+S, sysrq+alt+U and sysrq+alt+b
I will enable an ssh server on this laptop so next time I can catch the

However, this bug is really really CRITICAL!
Please blacklist this video card or (better) make up your mind and revert back
the decision of leaving compiz on by default!
Just think about all the users who have an Ati Xxxx card: they will think linux
(and ubuntu) is not better then windows...

[Bug 108527] Re: X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards

2007-09-30 Thread Angelo Lisco
Enryfox, i noticed the same thing: it's clearly a big design flaw...we all know
that in order to have compiz working with Ati cards, the only solution is to
use the open source driver but restricted manager suggests to install the ATI
proprietary driver which breaks compiz!!!
I use ubuntu from warty and I think that gutsy will be the worse release ever
because of the insane decision about compiz: what a pity...all the good work
done will be obscured by the critical bugs created by compiz.

Technical board, please reply...

Hi Andrew and Timo,
same crash is happening here when minimize/maximize windows in task bar with
compiz enabled (default behaviour in Gutsy).
I tried to disable compiz 'cause I think it's a bug in the X Composite

[Bug 190948] Re: compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV after a random amount of time

2008-04-10 Thread Angelo Lisco
Gerard,
as I supposed, you have an X-series ATI video card and the "ati open driver" is
badly broken when using compiz and (in general) X composite extension for this
kind of hardware.
I have an ATI X700 and I'm having the same problem described by you (X freezes
but mouse still moving).
Take a look at those links below:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15096
https://bugs.launchpad.net/xf86-video-ati/+bug/108527
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/195051

For now, (if it's not already done) ubuntu devs just have to blacklist
this video card in the compiz startup script.

Please, attach the output of this command ' lspci -n | grep 1002'

Thanks

2009-08-26 Thread Angelo Lisco
Hi seb128, I think that this bug should be considered a medium-priority bug
because it affects all the enterprise-desktop users (like me and my colleagues).
Thanks a lot for your work.

Is it possible to backport the version uploaded in karmic to hardy?

[Bug 1550779] Re: [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun - Xorg glitches

2018-01-23 Thread Angelo Lisco
Same issue here on a Lenovo T450s with a Intel HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell GT2)
GPU. It happens both with Ubuntu 16.04 and Fedora (26 and 27) so I suppose
that's a weird bug in the intel driver.
It also happens sometimes without any external monitor when I leave my notebook
powered up during the night: in the moring my gdm lock screen flickers and I'm
unable to login into my session.
Has someone found a workaround or a fix?

2018-01-23 Thread Angelo Lisco
Hi Alexander. Thanks for your bug report and all your effort to troubleshoot
and fix this weird issue.
I'm not using any docking station but I'm experiencing the same behaviour
(screen flickering and unable to lock my screen) here on a Lenovo T450s with a
Intel HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell GT2) GPU.
It happens both with Ubuntu 17.10 and Fedora (26 and 27) so i'm so I suppose
that's a weird bug in the intel driver.
Did you find any workaround or fix?
