Re: [Bug 211644] Re: [hardy] Sound card hda Intel doesn't work with kernel 2.6.24 series

2008-11-18 Thread Andy Young
Upgrading to the 2.6.27-7-generic kernel supplied with the Intrepid upgrade
solved this problem for me with no tinkering.

$ lspci | grep Audio

[Bug 284225] Re: iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode firmware file req failed: Reason -2

2008-11-13 Thread Andy Young
Confirmed on:

$ uname -a
Linux whitman 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Tue Nov 4 19:33:20 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

Output of:

$ sudo dmesg | grep iwl3945

is provided as an attachment.

I currently have:

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet dhcp

in my /etc/network/interfaces file.

[Bug 284225] Re: iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode firmware file req failed: Reason -2

2008-11-13 Thread Andy Young
I resolved this situation by locating the desired file
'iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode' in an older kernel's firmware folder:
/lib/firmware/old_kernel_name/

I simply copied it into the /lib/firmware/2.6.27-7-generic/ folder and
the message disappeared from dmesg.

I don't recall where I initially got the microcode file from, but I
think it was when I had wireless networking issues when upgrading to
Hardy, which I eventually solved by compiling a newer kernel than Ubuntu
offered.

If anybody has a reliable download source for this firmware, that would
greatly help this issue.

Also, is there some configuration file that prompts Ubuntu to search for
this firmware, which may not be common for all hardware?

Re: [Bug 211644] Re: [hardy] Sound card hda Intel doesn't work with kernel 2.6.24 series

2008-04-27 Thread Andy Young
Again, concurring with the above: installing the linux-rt package from
Synaptic and rebooting restores sound to its previous Gutsy performance!

Any pointers on how to revert to the generic kernel once they get the
soundcard bug worked out?

[Bug 494654] Re: linux 2.6.31.16 unable to boot, kernel panic unable to mount rootfs on unknown block

2009-12-13 Thread Andy Young
Workaround: appending rootdelay=10 onto the kernel's GRUB options solved
the problem for me. I guess the VFS partition isn't available early
enough in the boot sequence for the *-16 kernel.

(ESC during bootup, press 'e' on *-16 kernel, press 'e' on "kernel..."
line, append 'rootdelay=10' to kernel options, 'ENTER', then 'b')
