Re: [Bug 211644] Re: [hardy] Sound card hda Intel doesn't work with kernel 2.6.24 series
Upgrading to the 2.6.27-7-generic kernel supplied with the Intrepid upgrade solved this problem for me with no tinkering. $ lspci | grep Audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02) On Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 4:16 AM, Susan Cragin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>wrote: > Before, with the volume turned all the way up I could barely hear anything, > and recorded sound was terrible. > Now with volume turned all the way up (including all appropriate alsa > settings) I can hear volume well enough, at close range. > Recorded sound quality is still poor, but I think it might be better than > it was. > > -- > [hardy] Sound card hda Intel doesn't work with kernel 2.6.24 series > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211644 > You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber > of the bug. > > Status in "linux" source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete > > Bug description: > Binary package hint: linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-14-generic > > I upgraded my system from gutsy to hardy and my sound card doesn't work > anymore with the kernel 2.6.24 series. > The snd_hda_intel module seems to load with problems. > > In dmesg: > > [ 613.382762] ACPI: PCI Interrupt :00:1b.0[A] -> GSI 22 (level, low) > -> IRQ 22 > [ 613.382772] PCI: Unable to reserve mem region #1:[EMAIL PROTECTED] for > device :00:1b.0 > [ 613.382777] ACPI: PCI interrupt for device :00:1b.0 disabled > [ 613.382786] HDA Intel: probe of :00:1b.0 failed with error -16 > > I attached some files to help. > > I hope we can find a fix for this bug before the final release. > -- [hardy] Sound card hda Intel doesn't work with kernel 2.6.24 series https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211644 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 284225] Re: iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode firmware file req failed: Reason -2
I resolved this situation by locating the desired file 'iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode' in an older kernel's firmware folder: /lib/firmware/old_kernel_name/ I simply copied it into the /lib/firmware/2.6.27-7-generic/ folder and the message disappeared from dmesg. I don't recall where I initially got the microcode file from, but I think it was when I had wireless networking issues when upgrading to Hardy, which I eventually solved by compiling a newer kernel than Ubuntu offered. If anybody has a reliable download source for this firmware, that would greatly help this issue. Also, is there some configuration file that prompts Ubuntu to search for this firmware, which may not be common for all hardware? -- iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode firmware file req failed: Reason -2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/284225 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Workaround: appending rootdelay=10 onto the kernel's GRUB options solved the problem for me. I guess the VFS partition isn't available early enough in the boot sequence for the *-16 kernel.
