[Bug 263300] Re: Does not work with bzr 1.6

2008-11-23 Thread Andrew Schulman
Sorry, but I'm running trac-bzr 0.2+bzr49-1 (the Debian experimental
package) with bzr 1.6.1-1, and I still get

AttributeError: 'RevisionTree' object has no attribute '_get_weave'

when I try to view a revision log.

Please see my question #52270 about this.

Thanks,
Andrew.

[Bug 358612] Re: X11 forwarding fails (Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE)

2009-04-22 Thread Andrew Schulman
Bernie, thanks. You are correct, XAuthLocation wasn't correctly set,
and this was the cause of the problem.

I didn't set XAuthLocation at all, so ssh used the default value, which
ssh_config(5) says is /usr/bin/X11/xauth. But in Ubuntu xauth is
/usr/bin/xauth. Setting XAuthLocation /usr/bin/xauth in my ssh config
solved the problem.

Since xauth is /usr/bin/xauth and not /usr/bin/X11/xauth in Ubuntu, it
seems that Ubuntu's openssh-client should change its default value of
XAuthLocation. Debian solves this by making /usr/bin/X11 a symlink to .
, but that seems like an overbroad solution for just this problem.

Thanks,
Andrew.

I also see have this problem with bzr 1.5.1, trac-bzr 0.2+bzr45. I
first saw it with bzr 1.6.1 rc1, so I reverted to bzr 1.5.1 and removed
all of the .bzr directories, but now I'm still seeing the same error.

2009-01-07 Thread Andrew Schulman
I also have this exact problem. I had it in my previous Intrepid
installation, which was an upgrade from Hardy. For that and a few other
reasons, I reinstalled Intrepid from scratch. At first switch user
worked, but now it's broken again, in exactly the way that Gábor
describes.

[Bug 314930] [NEW] [Intrepid] switch user causes screen to alternate solid colors in i910

2009-01-07 Thread Andrew Schulman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

When I try to switch users, a new VT appears to start initializing. But
after a few mode switches, about 75% of the time the screen then starts
to flash all solid colors, changing about once per second:

red, blue, green, white, black,
red, blue, green, white, black,

and so on, ad infinitum. In order to use my display again, I have to
kill all open X displays with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. At that point gdm
starts again, and I can log in.

The result is that I'm generally limited now to having only one user
logged in at a time. Sometimes a 2nd user can log in successfully, but
when I try to switch back, I always get the solid colors and have to
kill all of the sessions again.

Attaching Xorg.0.log, and output of lspci -vvnn. Note that I can't be
sure which VT is flashing the colors, so I'm also attaching Xorg.20.log.

Thanks,
Andrew.

[Bug 358612] [NEW] X11 forwarding fails (Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE)

2009-04-09 Thread Andrew Schulman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openssh-client

ssh X11 forwarding to my intrepid client from my openssh server used to
work, but it always fails now, with "Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE". Please
see the example session log below.

Forwarding succeeds to a Windows client running PuTTY, so the problem
isn't with the server, so I conclude that it's with the client. I'd be
glad to provide further information or troubleshooting.

Thanks, Andrew.

[Bug 314930] Re: [i915] switch user causes screen to alternate solid colors in intrepid

2009-07-27 Thread Andrew Schulman
Sorry I didn't reply before. The bug does still exist in Jaunty; I saw
it happen again just a few days ago. However, it's less frequent than
it used to be. Where before I could only get 1 or 2 user switches
before the bug happened, now it might be 6 or 7. The severity is worse
than I described in my original report, though: Now when the screen
flashes colors, Ctrl-Alt-Backspace no longer works, and I can't switch
to a different VT. I have to force-reboot the host.

I will try to test against the development Ubuntu, to see if I can
reproduce the problem by doing a lot of user switching.

Thanks,
Andrew.

[Bug 358612] Re: X11 forwarding fails (Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE)

2009-06-09 Thread Andrew Schulman
OK. Yes, AFAIK it's properly installed. Still, I just ran 'apt-get
--reinstall install x11-common', and that recreated the symlink, which
will solve the problem. Not sure why the symlink was missing in the
first place.

So this is a solution to this bug. I guess the bug should be closed,
although it's still mysterious why it occurred in the first place.

Thanks,
Andrew.

[Bug 67416] Re: [Edgy] Error messages from scrollkeeper cron

2006-11-09 Thread Andrew Schulman
I have this same bug, but it's basically breaking my entire system.
After installing Ubuntu server I'm now trying to install ubuntu-desktop,
and this bug is preventing scrollkeeper from installing correctly, which
in turn is preventing 27 other packages from being installed. At
present no users are able to start Gnome sessions, and I presume that's
because installation of Gnome is incomplete. So my system is unusable
at this point.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Andrew.

[Bug 434799] Re: X11 forwarding via SSH does not work after upgrade to karmic

2010-05-03 Thread Andrew Schulman
Confirmed that this is broken again in Lucid, and I agree with yota:
the purpose of /etc/default/* is to provide supported ways for
administrators to modify services' behavior without having to modify
their startup scripts. It's a regression to stop supporting
/etc/default/ssh.

[Bug 434799] Re: X11 forwarding via SSH does not work after upgrade to karmic

2010-05-03 Thread Andrew Schulman
Also, the revised workaround in #20 does not work for me. I edited
/etc/init/ssh.conf as suggested, then ran

initctl reload-configuration
restart ssh

but for some reason the -4 parameter isn't taking effect. ps shows sshd
running as just /usr/sbin/sshd with no argument, netstat shows sshd
listening on 22, and $DISPLAY is still not being set on login.
Surely a reboot isn't required?

[Bug 434799] Re: X11 forwarding via SSH does not work after upgrade to karmic

2010-05-03 Thread Andrew Schulman
Setting

AddressFamily inet

in /etc/ssh/sshd_config and restarting sshd does work around this
problem.

** Description changed:

I had a proper configuration on jaunty (sshd_config) so I could ssh into
that machine and run X11 applications there with X11 forwarding, so I
could use apps fromt here remotely. After upgrade to karmic (same
sshd_config on the server, client is not changed) I got this (for
  example):

- xterm Xt error: Can't open display:
+ xterm Xt error: Can't open display:
  xterm: DISPLAY is not set

I've tried ssh -X, -Y and -X -Y too together with no success.

So DISPLAY environment variable is not even set because of some reason,
though I found this in /var/log/auth.log:

Sep 22 19:56:02 vega sshd[11206]: error: Failed to allocate internet-
  domain X11 display socket.

[Bug 293139] Re: NetworkManager does not use dhclient-exit-hooks.d

2010-01-06 Thread Andrew Schulman
With all respect for the good work that's gone into NetworkManager, I
have to agree with Brian. Every other package that provides a dhclient
script is potentially affected by this problem and may or may not be
able to provide an equivalent NetworkManager dispatch script. A quick
check of the affected packages in Jaunty gives:

$ apt-file -x search 'etc/dhcp3/(enter|exit)-hooks.d' | sed -e 's_:.*__' | sort
-u
avahi-autoipd
dhcp3-client
ebox-network
ntp
ntpdate
resolvconf
samba-common
sendmail-base
whereami

At least some of these are going to fail to work with NetworkManager.
For one example of that, see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/whereami/+bug/486406 . And of
course that doesn't even address all of the custom dhclient hook scripts
developed by sysadmins, such as in the original report here, all of
which will break with NetworkManager.

Anyone who runs into this problem and searches for a solution pretty
quickly encounters the workaround mentioned in #16. It appears to be
widely used. Is that how we want people to be operating, by applying
someone's workaround script that they find on the net? And at the same
time, doesn't it suggest that there should be a straightforward fix?

Thanks for your work on NetworkManager.
Andrew.

[Bug 486406] [NEW] integrate with NetworkManager

2009-11-21 Thread Andrew Schulman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: whereami

whereami 0.3.34-0.1, in Jaunty.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install NetworkManager and whereami.
2. Use NetworkManager to bring up or reconfigure an interface.

What should happen: whereami gets run, via /etc/dhcp3/dhclient-exit-
hooks.d/whereami.

What does happen: whereami doesn't run.

The problem it seems, is that when NetworkManager invokes dhclient, it
specifies its own custom dhclient script (/usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-
dhcp-client.action), which doesn't run the usual dhclient enter and exit
hook scripts. It only runs the scripts in
/etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d. This problem is described at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/293139
and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6748706.

Since the bug against NetworkManager is tagged "wontfix", it seems that
the best solution for whereami will be to provide a NetworkManager
dispatch script, that calls whereami. I haven't worked out the details
of this but it looks simple enough. If I create one I'll post it here.

Thanks,
Andrew.

[Bug 486406] Re: integrate with NetworkManager

2009-11-21 Thread Andrew Schulman
Here's my NetworkManager integration script. It works for me: with
this script installed as /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/whereami and
executable, whereami now gets called whenever NM reconfigures an
interface. Note a couple of issues:

* NM doesn't offer the same variety of operations and network state as
dhclient-- we just get (post-)up or down, and the name of the interface.

* I'm not sure if I gave the right --hint values. Those could be
adjusted.

[Bug 366087] Re: USB Startup Disk Creator no longer works in Ubuntu 9.04

2010-03-03 Thread Andrew Schulman
I can't figure out how to create the debug output that others have
posted, but I also suffer from this problem.

1. The bug is reproducible. It happens every time I run usb-creator.
2. To reproduce:
* Start usb-creator.
* Choose a disk image and USB disk partition.
* Choose any option for storing documents and settings.
* Click on "Make Startup Disk".
Some progress dialogs appear, then a popup that says:

Installation failed
An uncaught exception was raised:
[Error 5] Input/output error

3. The problem occurs in up-to-date karmic.

Thanks,
Andrew.

[Bug 370526] Re: blank windows: X Error: BadWindow

2010-04-09 Thread Andrew Schulman
I also have this problem, with kalarm 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu6 in karmic. It's
not consistent, though. It tends to happen when I first log in, and
then straighten itself out after a while.

A related problem is that when an alarm goes off, the window that pops
up is often blank. Please see the attached screenshot. Note that the
taskbar clearly shows that the blank, active window is from kalarm.

[Bug 434799] Re: X11 forwarding via SSH does not work after upgrade to karmic

2010-05-19 Thread Andrew Schulman
Can anyone else confirm that #20 does not work for them? That is, if
you do the following:

* remove "AddressFamily inet" from sshd_config
* add "-4" after "exec /usr/sbin/sshd" in /etc/init/ssh/conf
* run

initctl reload-configuration
restart sshd

then do you still have this problem? Does

pgrep -lf sshd

show just /usr/sbin/sshd, or /usr/sbin/sshd -4?

[Bug 466470] Re: resume failure

This bug seems to be fixed in lucid. After upgrading to lucid, I ran

echo options i915 modeset=0 > /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf

as recommended in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/KernelModeSetting, then ran
update-initramfs and rebooted. The problem went away. Then I tried
removing the i915 option, ran update-initramfs and rebooted again. The
problem is still not recurring.

[Bug 549430] [NEW] configuration fails: access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'

An error occurred while installing the database:

I've tried this repeatedly, including removing and purging phpmyadmin

mysqld is running, and listening on localhost. I can connect to it

give my phpmyadmin. And, during all of the configuration exchange,

A clarification: to get the newer gosa debs from upstream, create

deb http://oss.gonicus.de/pub/gosa/debian-etch/ ./

(Equivalently, go to System > Administration > Software Sources > Other

and you can install gosa 2.6.9, where this problem is fixed.

[Bug 466470] [NEW] resume failure

2009-10-31 Thread Andrew Schulman
Public bug reported:

With Karmic, after I suspend and then power the machine back on again,
the screen stays blank. Ctrl-Alt-F1 etc., Ctl-Alt-Backspace, and Ctrl-
Alt-Del have no effect - the keyboard is completely unresponsive. The
power is on, but there's no disk or any other activity that I can see.

This happens after every suspend. It was never a problem in Jaunty.

Suspend is such a basic feature that Karmic is completely unusable to
me. I'm going to have to revert to Jaunty, but I'll try to keep Karmic
installed alongside in order to troubleshoot this report.

Andrew.

[Bug 1715435] Re: Can't lock screen with keyboard shortcuts when using lightdm

2018-10-17 Thread Andrew Schulman
> Disabling the key "/org/gnome/desktop/lockdown/disable-lock-screen" in
dconf-editor solved the problem.

I'm not sure what you mean by disabling. If you mean set it to false,
false is already the default value. It was at its default for me. I
tried overriding it and setting it to false, but that didn't help. So
this solution doesn't work for me.

[Bug 1801183] [NEW] all servers stuck in INIT after reboot

2018-11-01 Thread Andrew Schulman
Public bug reported:

Since I updated to 18.04.1 (ntp version 1:4.2.8p10+dfsg-5ubuntu7.1),
ntpd at boot leaves all remote servers in the INIT state:

$ ntpq -c peers
Thu Nov 1 06:33:19 EDT 2018
remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset jitter
==
 otc2.psu.edu.INIT. 16 u- 6400.0000.000 0.000

 dns3.cit.cornel .INIT. 16 u- 6400.0000.000 0.000

This happens after every reboot. I have to restart the ntp service, then
it runs normally again.

So ntpd is at first ignoring all of the 'restrict' commands because the
hostnames are 'unusable'. Why would that be? Is ntpd trying to start
before the external network interface is up?

[Bug 1801183] Re: all servers stuck in INIT after reboot

2018-12-26 Thread Andrew Schulman
Thank you Christian. I tried chrony in the past, but found it less
featureful. I may try one of the other ntp packages. Meanwhile, I guess
let's leave this open in case there's a solution.

[Bug 1265153] [NEW] /etc/init.d/stunnel4 doesn't support the status command

2013-12-31 Thread Andrew Schulman
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 882110 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882110

Public bug reported:

It would be nice if I could run

service stunnel4 status

and get a return status that would tell me if the service was up. Then
in order to check in a cron job that the service was up or restart it if
it wasn't, I could just run

service stunnel4 status || service stunnel4 start

instead of something more fiddly and complicated like

 [ -f /var/lib/stunnel4/stunnel4.pid ] && ps `cat
/var/lib/stunnel4/stunnel4.pid` || service stunnel4 start

Many other services' init.d scripts support the status option.

Thanks!

2016-05-25 Thread Andrew Schulman
Hm, good point. No, downgrading to 2.4.42+dfsg-2ubuntu3 didn't fix the
problem. So apparently this problem was present since the upgrade to
xenial, but I only just noticed it.

I can verify that slapd was starting normally in trusty, before the
upgrade to xenial.

2016-05-27 Thread Andrew Schulman
Thanks for pointing me to the TLS error, I should've spotted that. The
certificate pointed to by olcTLSCertificateFile had had its permissions
changed so that it was unreadable by slapd; not sure how. I reset the
permissions, and now slapd starts normally.

Thank you for your prompt attention, and sorry for the noise.

[Bug 494476] Re: "Smbd", "kjournald2" and "rsync" blocked for more than 120 seconds while using ext4.

2010-12-07 Thread Andrew Schulman
This is a very serious problem. It's causing unpredictable lockups on
my server every 2-3 days, requiring a force-reboot. There are many
related reports from other users: e.g. #588046, #667656, #628530, and my
particular one, #684654.

This bug is not:

* Just on server kernels. My kernel is the latest -generic.
* File-system specific. Here it's on ext4, mine is on reiserfs, others have
reported it on xfs.
* A hardware problem, comment #29 notwithstanding. My hardware shows no signs
of failure, and too many people are reporting it for it to be caused by
simultaneous hardware problems.

I hope that someone is going to work on and fix this very soon.
Andrew.

[Bug 684654] [NEW] system hangs due to blocked filesystem tasks

2010-12-03 Thread Andrew Schulman
Public bug reported:

Every few days, a relatively disk-intensive task such as

find -type d -print0 | xargs -0 chmod u+s # or
cvs up

will cause my system to hang. The filesystem (reiser4 on /home) becomes
blocked, with more and more processes piling up messages like:

Once this happens the host becomes unresponsive to console input or ssh
connections, although it does continue to pass network traffic, at least
for a while. It eventually has to be force-rebooted.

This bug is similar to #494476. The effect of it is pretty severe, and
I'd greatly appreciate a solution.

Thanks,
Andrew.

Also: #588046 was very similar to this bug, but turned out to be a

can say that SMART on the affected drive reports good health, no errors,
and successful short and long selftests.

2014-05-05 Thread Andrew Schulman
I just encountered this bug for the first time after upgrading from

but after the upgrade I started to get distortion and crackling.

hoocker's suggestion in #96 seems to have fixed it! Or at least,
greatly reduced it. Thanks much!

2014-05-06 Thread Andrew Schulman
OK. Yes, I'm using Unity. So I see the Banshee control panel now.
I'll just say that IMO it's less desirable than the old notification
icon, because I have to do more work to open the Banshee window: one
extra click and pick, every time I want to see Banshee.

[Bug 1266157] [NEW] segmentation fault with TextCtrl child of StaticBox

2014-01-04 Thread Andrew Schulman
Public bug reported:

I have a short program that creates a TextCtrl as the child of a
StaticBox:

#!/usr/bin/env python

import wx

class Bug(wx.Frame):

def __init__(self):
wx.Frame.__init__(self, None)
box = wx.StaticBox(self, label='Box')
wx.TextCtrl(box)

app = wx.App()
Bug()
app.MainLoop()

Whenever I run it, I get a segmentation fault. I'm attaching the
program and gdb backtrace; please let me know if I can provide anything
else.

[Bug 900512] Re: ia32-libs-multiarch:i386 is not installable

2013-01-13 Thread Andrew Schulman
I'm with Scott. Marking this bug as invalid and saying "there's not a
bug here" is simply maddening for a user who's just installing Precise
and finding that ia32-libs simply don't work - they can't be installed.
This breaks Crossover and Lotus Notes, on an LTS release.

It's been a year. Is a fix expected?

Thanks for your efforts - we do appreciate them.

[Bug 971761] Re: Cannot install ia32-libs on 12.04 64-bit

Confirmed on a current, up-to-date installation of precise. Acroread,

[Bug 900512] Re: ia32-libs-multiarch:i386 is not installable

2013-01-13 Thread Andrew Schulman
I found a workaround, at least in precise: install
ia32-libs_20090808ubuntu26_amd64.deb, from oneiric:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/amd64/ia32-libs/download. In my
precise installation, this version installs and runs fine, once the
libraries it depends on are also installed. All of those are available
in the precise repositories.

OK, I tested that and it is true. In a virgin Quantal installation,

[Bug 1100616] [NEW] main pointer cursor isn't shown

2013-01-16 Thread Andrew Schulman
Public bug reported:

In precise, I use ubuntu-tweak to set the theme, choosing ComixCursors-
Red-Huge-Slim. Most of the comix cursors are then used, but the most
common one, the simple finger pointer when you're not clicking or
waiting or hovering over a text box, isn't shown. Instead, I get the
bland white arrow cursor. Please see the screenshot.

[Bug 1100616] Re: main pointer cursor isn't shown

2013-01-17 Thread Andrew Schulman
Well, I found Information On The Net that said with Unity, in order to
change the cursor theme, I have to run update-alternatives x-cursor-
theme. Which is a *global* change for the host. So I tried it, and
it's true, now I get the full set of comix cursors.

So this is a usability bug in Unity, not any problem with comixcursors.
Sorry for the noise, and thanks for making Comix Cursors! I love 'em!

[Bug 1103920] [NEW] kalarm doesn't send email

2013-01-24 Thread Andrew Schulman
Public bug reported:

I have several email alarms in kalarm. They used to work fine in

[Bug 1103920] Re: kalarm doesn't send email

2013-01-24 Thread Andrew Schulman
When I start kalarm from the terminal and test sending an email alarm,
here's what I see in the terminal:

kalarm(19033) KAlarmApp::execAlarm: EMAIL to: "and...@deadspam.com"
kalarm(19033) KAMail::send: To: "and...@deadspam.com"
Subject: "switch backups"
kalarm(19033) KAMail::send: Sending via sendmail

X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
  Major opcode: 20 (X_GetProperty)
  Resource id: 0x220006a

All of this looks normal and correct until the BadWindow error, although
I don't know why a window problem should interfere with a sendmail
connection.

[Bug 1132485] [NEW] Lock Screen shortcut doesn't work after each login

2013-02-24 Thread Andrew Schulman
Public bug reported:

Each time I log in, the Lock Screen shortcut (Super + L) doesn't work.
In System Settings > Keyboard > Shortcuts > System, next to "Lock
screen" the shortcut is listed as Super + L, and the pull-down menu at
top right of the desktop also shows "Lock Screen .. Super + L". But
when I press Super + L, nothing happens. Left and right super give the
same result.

Now if I go into System Settings > Keyboard and manually set the Lock
screen shortcut to Super + L, then it works... until the next time I log
out and log back in again. So, each time I log in I have to manually
reset the shortcut again.

I've tried and failed to find a solution to this. I'm happy to help
troubleshoot.

[Bug 900512] Re: ia32-libs-multiarch:i386 is not installable

2013-02-01 Thread Andrew Schulman
Contrary to what I wrote in #16, I now agree with Steve that this isn't
a bug in ia32-libs or ia32-libs-multiarch.

I created a new virtual machine, installed a virgin copy of Quantal in
it, updated, and then installed ia32-libs. It installed with no
problems, bringing ia32-libs-multiarch with it. This implies that when
those packages won't install, it's because of a configuration problem on
the host.

Back on my precise host where I had this problem, after investigating I
found that I had some pinned packages installed that were incompatible
with ia32-libs in precise. Once I uninstalled those, I was able to
install ia32-libs, and ia32-libs-multiarch with it, from the precise
repository.

If you can find the problem on your host, maybe the workaround I posted
in #17 will help.

[Bug 1125097] [NEW] forces removal of virtualbox-4.2

Public bug reported:

I'm trying to install vagrant 1.0.1-1. On my host virtualbox is not
installed, but virtualbox-4.2 from virtualbox.org is. To my surprise,
installing vagrant wants to force installation of virtualbox, which
forces uninstallation of virtualbox-4.2:

The following NEW packages will be installed:

0 upgraded, 15 newly installed, 1 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 24.5 MB of archives.
After this operation, 59.1 MB disk space will be freed.

I can't figure out why this should happen, because AFAICT vagrant only
recommends virtualbox, it doesn't depend on it.

It would be nice if vagrant didn't force uninstallation of
virtualbox-4.2. It would be even nicer if vagrant would accept
virtualbox-4.2 as providing the virtualbox package.

Thanks, Andrew.

[Bug 1132485] Re: Lock Screen shortcut doesn't work after each login

2013-03-05 Thread Andrew Schulman
I'm not sure why your shortcut is different from mine, but it doesn't
seem to matter. I don't know if Super+L was the default shortcut, or
whether I set it, but either way, I have set it now. The settings say
that Super+L is the right shortcut, but it doesn't work after each
login, until I reset it again.

[Bug 563878] Re: Ubuntu splashscreen big and ugly after installing ATI/nVidia proprietary graphics driver

2011-10-18 Thread Andrew Schulman
I confirm #140: With my Nvidia video card, after a clean install of
11.10, the monitor only shows "Video mode not supported" from boot until
gdm.

[Bug 863192] Re: Compiz using large amounts of CPU when running Chrome

2013-03-22 Thread Andrew Schulman
Confirmed that this is still a problem in 12.04. It's definitely the
same as http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=98869. When
a pinned tab starts flashing, CPU usage jumps. To bring it back down
again, you have to select the pinned tab, then select a different tab.

There's no fix yet and no option to stop pinned tabs from flashing when
their content changes. The workaround is to unpin the tabs.

[Bug 374241] Re: Won't generate new certificates due to "can't use string as ARRAY ref" error

2013-03-27 Thread Andrew Schulman
Is it possible to get this fixed by applying the patch I submitted?
This bug substantially breaks TinyCA, and the patch to fix it is
trivial. Thanks, Andrew.

[Bug 708493] Re: Can't login anymore: Read from socket failed: Connection reset by peer

2012-12-21 Thread Andrew Schulman
Multiple commenters (#19, #43) have posted the workaround. In my
~/ssh/.config I now have

Host *
# Workaround for the dreaded 'connection reset by peer' bug, openssh >=5.7:
Ciphers aes128-ctr,aes192-ctr,aes256-ctr

and I no longer see this problem.

Whoa there, fella. Take it easy.

Plymouth mostly looks and works great. This is a bug, and they're
fixing it. There's no call for abuse.

[Bug 724082] Re: doesn't support ATI GPU temperature sensors

2011-02-28 Thread Andrew Schulman
I'm not sure I understand. sensors-applet has the ability to read the
GPU temperature; when I build it from source and run it, it does that.
The problem in the package for Maverick is just that libaticonfig.so is
missing. When I build that file from source and drop it into the
existing package, it works.

Maybe you're saying that you don't want to include libaticonfig.so in
the Ubuntu package, because it relies on a non-kernel interface?

I haven't tried Natty yet but will do so soon and report back.

Yes.

Probably.

I didn't specify --with-aticonfig when I built it. Looking through the
configure script, it appears that it turns on --with-aticonfig by
default if the aticonfig executable is available on the host, as it is
on mine.

Which is my point. It seems that it would be easy to add it, and so
support ATI GPU sensors even before the kernel interface becomes
available. However, if you don't want to do that and if it's going to
be fixed in natty anyway, then I guess it's no big deal. I will check
whether it works in natty and report back on that.

Thanks for looking at this.
Andrew.
