Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel
When I try to switch users, a new VT appears to start initializing. But after a few mode switches, about 75% of the time the screen then starts to flash all solid colors, changing about once per second: red, blue, green, white, black, red, blue, green, white, black, and so on, ad infinitum. In order to use my display again, I have to kill all open X displays with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. At that point gdm starts again, and I can log in. The result is that I'm generally limited now to having only one user logged in at a time. Sometimes a 2nd user can log in successfully, but when I try to switch back, I always get the solid colors and have to kill all of the sessions again. Attaching Xorg.0.log, and output of lspci -vvnn. Note that I can't be sure which VT is flashing the colors, so I'm also attaching Xorg.20.log. Thanks, Andrew. $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 8.10 Release: 8.10 $ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel xserver-xorg-video-intel: Installed: 2:2.4.1-1ubuntu10 Candidate: 2:2.4.1-1ubuntu10 Version table: *** 2:2.4.1-1ubuntu10 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10 Package: xorg 1:7.4~5ubuntu3 ProcEnviron: PATH=/home/username/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/home/username/usr/all/private/bin:/home/username/usr/all/bin:/home/username/usr/linux-unknown/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/games:/opt/cxoffice/bin LANG=en_US SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersion: Linux version 2.6.27-9-generic (bui...@rothera) (gcc version 4.3.2 (Ubuntu 4.3.2-1ubuntu11) ) #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 21:57:00 UTC 2008 SourcePackage: xorg Uname: Linux 2.6.27-9-generic i686 XorgConf: xkbcomp: ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug -- [Intrepid] switch user causes screen to alternate solid colors in i910 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314930 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
