[Bug 298241] Re: Apple CUPS Daemon: unauthenticated SIGSEGV crash via RSS subscriptions

2008-11-20 Thread ap
@Martin: check out the comments on http://www.gnucitizen.org/blog
/pwning-ubuntu-via-cups/

someone figured out why ubuntu hardy does NOT require auth to add rss
subscriptions (cupsd dies completely when visiting "evil" page), whereas
ubuntu intrepid DOES require auth.

copied and pasted:

"
TH responds:

Problem solved:

Hardy’s version: 1.3.7-1ubuntu3.1
Intrepid’s version: 1.3.9-2
http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/cups
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/cupsys

>From cups-1.3.8 CHANGES.txt:
- The scheduler now ensures that the RSS directory has the correct permissions.
"

hope that helps.

[Bug 154642] update manager fails to upgrade from 7.10 prerelease to 7.10

I enabled the "unsupported updates" and pre-release updates in Adept. I

there an alternative method?

I'm still learning Linux, and I tried using GJIG to download libmyth and
mythtv-backend Recommended and Suggested.

Also, where exactly does the database info come from? The web, or my
/dev/video0?

If it's from the /dev/video0, I don't think I have a working driver for
it (AVerTV G) 007 FM Plus). I wrote to AVerMedia for assistance with a
driver, and they wrote back yesterday that they wouldn't supply one.

Actually, I reinstalled Kubuntu and it worked after that. Most likely it
was a broken install.

[Bug 106765] KDE Panel is Broken in Laptop

2007-04-15 Thread AP
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop

KDE Panel v 3.5.6 is segmented and broken after suspending and resuming
the laptop. Before suspending [after a fresh restart] the panel is
whole, but after suspending, it is broken in a few places - mostly where
the open windows are listed. After re-suspending, the panel is still
broken, but in different places.

[Bug 296682] Re: tsclient stores user/password as clear text

2009-08-26 Thread ap
I just discovered this security issue on my own after deciding to
inspect my "~/.tsclient/last.tsc" file and couldn't believe this hadn't
been reported before. So I decided to do a google search which lead me
here.

Guys, this is bad news! As mentioned by clovepower the password is
stored *in the clear* even if the user doesn't save the connection
settings. All that it's required is that the user enters his/her
password on the tsclient window, as opposed to the remote server's login
screen. Plus, "~/.tsclient/last.tsc" has world-readable permissions (as
mentioned by Alex)!

I'm surprised this issue hasn't been fixed by now since it was first
reported back on 11th Nov 2008. That's more than 9 months ago! How come
this hasn't been fixed by now? Ubuntu Security Team? Shouldn't the
importance of this bug be changed from "Wishlist" to "Medium"?

For now, I guess the only protection against this issue is to NOT enter
passwords on the tsclient Logon Settings screen. Instead, users should
type their credentials on the *remote server*'s login screen.

$ grep -e username -e password\:b -e address -e domain ~/.tsclient/last.tsc

[Bug 296682] Re: tsclient stores user/password as clear text

2009-08-26 Thread ap
using the keyring would be ideal, but anything other than storing the
password in the clear would have been a security improvement IMHO.
Hashing the password with a installation-specific salt should be trivial
to implement for instance.

[Bug 296682] Re: tsclient stores user/password as clear text

2009-08-27 Thread ap
Cyclops: you're correct that if hashing is used, then the user would not
be able to save the password, and would have to retype it for each
connection as a hash is not reversible. So yeah, hashing would *not* be
a valid solution for users who would like to save their remote
connection passwords in order to avoid entering them upon every remote
logon.

[Bug 2061981] Re: chromium fails to start with non-standard home directory

2024-04-17 Thread AP
I saw in another discussion that what we (people having this issue) could have
in common is an encrypted home directory. Mine is encrypted and I have the
issue.
Btw, I tried 'snap revert chromium' but it reverted to a version that also
doesn't start.

$ snap connections chromium | grep personal-files
personal-fileschromium:chromium-config
:personal-files -
personal-fileschromium:dot-local-share-applications
:personal-files -
personal-fileschromium:dot-local-share-icons
:personal-files -

How do we "disconnect the dot-local-share ones" ?

2018-06-08 Thread Ap-z

Patch for xfdesktop-file-icon-manager.c in version 4.12.3 (on Gentoo)

Someone already worked out that this is a problem with concurrency. As
mentioned before I'm affected on every login with an eight core CPU.

The attached patch handles files in
xfdesktop_file_icon_manager_load_desktop_folder() synchronized.

The problem could be solved more elegant, but this fixes the bug for me.

[Bug 1335492]

2018-06-08 Thread Ap-z
(In reply to Gerold Schellstede from comment #91)

Gentoo only:

> PATCH COMMAND: patch -p0 -g0 -E --no-backup-if-mismatch --dry-run -f <
> '/etc/portage/patches//xfce-base/xfdesktop-4.12.3/xfdesktop-file-icon-
> manager.patch'

I've never used custom patches in /etc/portage/patches/..., you probably
have to add a path fragment to the patch file in line 1 and 2.

> Any ideas to solve this?

I created a local ebuild at /usr/local/portage/xfce-base/xfdesktop/.
Just copy the ebuild xfdesktop-4.12.3.ebuild and the files folder from
/usr/portage/xfce-base/xfdesktop/. Create a copy of the ebuild as
xfdesktop-4.12.3-r1.ebuild and add the following three lines:

post_src_prepare() {
  epatch "${FILESDIR}/xfdesktop-file-icon-manager.patch"
}

Of course add my patch to the files folder and create the checksums with
$ ebuild xfdesktop-4.12.3-r1.ebuild digest

Then you should be able to
$ emerge --update --ask xfce-base/xfdesktop

2018-06-08 Thread Ap-z
(In reply to Gerold Schellstede from comment #95)

> 2) Unfortunately the patch has no effect at all.

Ok, are you sure that xfdesktop is emerged with the patch applied?

If so, I'd guess there is at least one file on the desktop, that wasn't
there on logout and therefore the icons are reordered on login. Or
somehow the icon positions are rewritten at the wrong time, whatever may
trigger that.

IIRC the config file with the icon positions is read repeatedly, once
for each icon. So the first icon that does not have a saved position
triggers a rewrite and all positions of not yet placed icons are lost
and then reordered.

The solution could be to read this file only once at the beginning, so a
rewrite does not affect previously known positions...

Could you describe what gets reordered when in your case?

2018-06-08 Thread Ap-z
Created attachment 6763
Patch for xfdesktop-file-icon-manager.c in version 4.12.3 to read icon
positions from open file.

The attached patch adds three methods to replace calls to
xfdesktop_file_icon_manager_get_cached_icon_position().

Before, the file icons.screen-???.rc with the saved icon positions was
opened, read and closed for each icon separately. If anything triggered
a rewrite of the file, while the icon positions were still read
individually, some icon positions were lost.

With my patch the file is only opened once and kept around until all
icons have their position set.

This also fixes the bug for me, and it's a better solution too.

@ Gerold Schellstede:

Could you try this patch? Maybe this solves it for you, too...

digikam (2.8.0) on KDE Platform 4.9.00 "release 559" using Qt 4.8.2

- What I was doing when the application crashed:

Alt+Tab works when dragging files and switching directly to Dolphin, but
crashes Digikam when I first switch to another program (that is, "pick
up" file, Alt+Tab to Firefox, then Alt+Tab again to Dolphin, and drop
file). Expected behaviour: start dialog to Move/Copy/Link.

[Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics)

2011-06-26 Thread Ap. Syvertsen
First of all, bisect003 crashes as well, with or without headers.

I looks like I kinda jumped to a conclusion too fast, as I am unable to
reproduce the no-header-boot link.

The reason why I was led to believe this is that I installed
bisect001-image without headers and suddenly I could boot 2.6.39-1. I
keep this image and also try it to check if something else has changed
the boot behavior. I've now tried for an hour to reproduce the no-
header-boot link with no luck, so I would regard my previous statement
as false.

2011-06-21 Thread Ap. Syvertsen
Hi,
Just a quick question. Isn't v2.6.39.1-oneiric/ after v2.6.39-rc7-oneiric/ ?

Because for me, 2.6.39-1 (which I'm guessing Jean is also referring to,
since 11.04 comes with 2.6.38-8) doesn't work while 3.0-rc3 works.
Testing rc1 now.

2011-06-21 Thread Ap. Syvertsen
Yup,

My linux crashes occasionally during startup with kernel 2.6.39-1 with
this kernel BUG, while I'm unable to produce this on 3.0-rc1.

It is also worth noting that my rc.local script that turns off the power
to the radeon card works on 3.0-rc1 while it was not run on earlier
kernels even the times it booted. (I would have to run it manually after
startup).

2011-06-22 Thread Ap. Syvertsen
Are these bisects between 2.6.39-1 and 3.0-rc1 or between 2.6.39 and
3.0-rc1?

I'm more than willing to try the bisects, but as I've already outlined,
2.6.39-1 is already "good", it crashes, and I don't want to try too many
bisects.

2011-06-25 Thread Ap. Syvertsen
Hi Seth, thanks a lot for clarifying.

I've now tested the the three bisects and bisect000 crashes while
bisect001 boots every time. I have no problems with CPU use either.

For me however, bisect002 also crashes during start-up (two out of three
times).

As a side note, I had to install the headers of the bisects to make it
crash, if I didn't install the headers I could boot all the kernels.

[Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics)

2011-05-19 Thread Ap. Syvertsen
I have a Dell Aspire Timeline X 4820TG with Radeon HD5650 and integrated
intel graphics.

This bug used to bugger me about every second boot, but after installing
tons of different kernels it's actually been more sporadic. I don't know
whether that is because I spend more time in the GRUB-menu, clicking to
Previous versions and then choosing 2.6.38-8.

Anyways, I added the drm.debug=0x0e for all kernels and kept booting
till I got some good and bad boots. Chronologically I had 1 good, 3 bad
and 1 good boot, but in the attached kern.log it only shows 1 good, 1
bad, 1 good. In all the bad boots it stopped with a completely black
screen (no backlight) but I was able to switch xserver (or something) by
pressing Alt+F1, Alt+F2 and Alt+F7. The system did not respond to Ctrl-
Alt-Del but printed some SAK line when pressing AltGr+SysRq+K without
doing anything.

The last line in one terminal on all bad boots was this:
[drm:intel_prepare_page_flip], preparing flip with no unpin work?

The last thing in the other terminal was the call trace ending with this:
[ 27.218815] RIP [] evergreen_cp_start+0x56/0xc80 [radeon]

Hope this helps, let me know if you need more info.

[Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics)

2011-05-28 Thread Ap. Syvertsen
Hi Seth,
Thanks a lot for working on this. Unfortunately I was unable to reach Unity at
all with the new kernel but it crashes in a distinctively new way. Earlier the
computer stopped without any backlight, but I was able to reach VT1, which says
"Preparing flip with no unpin work?" and VT7, which displayed the kernel BUG
from the driver loading.

Now, out of five times, two times the computer stopped with a black screen with
backlight, but I was unable to reach any VT.
The following three times, the computer wanted to check the disk, which after
diskchecking, resulted in the loading-logo (Ubuntu with dots underneath) being
displayed on my computer for the first time since the upgrade to 11.04 (Usually
the complete loading of linux is black).

the computer froze after this, two times with the ubuntu-logo being
displayed and once with the Call trace from the BUG being displayed. I
was unable to use Alt-F1/F7.

Attached is the kern.log

[Bug 759103] Re: [STAGING] (Regression) Kernel panic with 2.6.38-8 and acpi on

2011-05-07 Thread Ap. Syvertsen
I have the same problem with My Acer Aspire 4820TG
For all kernels < 2.6.38.3 I can boot, but for any newer kernel it's just a
blank screen.

This is only the case when I have switchable graphics enabled in BIOS
(it boots perfect on just the discrete card) and am running the non-
proprietary driver for my ATI5650 card. It boots using fglrx , but then
vgaswitcheroo doesn't work.

When setting ACPI=OFF my wireless is locked in off position as well.

[Bug 1250837] [NEW] Schedule doesn't work correctly

2013-11-13 Thread Rodrigo Ap. F. Tomazini
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I think I have found a bug in cron.
I scheduled a task to be executed in this month, November, between 8-14 days
only if day was tuesday. Cron schedule:

30 06 8-14 nov tue web /usr/bin/php
/var/www/site/tarefas/pos_atualiza_fichas.php

It has been executed every day not only tuesday and I don't know why it
has been executed in day 5. See the logs:

syslog.1:Nov 13 06:30:01 ns1 CRON[16377]: (web) CMD (/usr/bin/php
/var/www/site/tarefas/pos_atualiza_fichas.php)
