Re: [Bug 211355] Re: [Hardy] HP Compaq 6710b: Hang before or after Suspend with fan full blast
Hi Leann, ok, here we go. Interestingly enough, the suppend from command line as suggested in the Wiki Article "worked" twice . Only load was at about 50 , so audio crashed. After that I closed the lid, and resume failed.(also occurs when I suspend from the battery control in Gnome) "dmesg.log" is from that cycle. Guod Luck, and if you need me to do something let me know. Re: [Bug 211355] Re: [Hardy] HP Compaq 6710b: Hang before or after Suspend with fan full blast
Leann, here's another set, with tonites kernel-updates applied. No change in behavior. Note that load still seems very high on successful resumes. Theory: Maybe important resume processes get killed, because of high load in the failing resume instances ? As mentioned earlier I once had the audio system killed, with an error message to that extent. I don't know how the "cpu overload killer" (whatever it's called), selects processes to kill, OOM as a parallel mechanism is not very selective. My2c...good luck. I've come to install nzbget 3 or 4 times in the past 5 years. Re: [Bug 822611] Missing required logs.
I do not know, whether I have done everything right; if necessary, I'll repeat this process. The failure of hibernating seems to be related to the buffers that are not purged: with "free", I can see that most of the RAM is used by buffers. As it looks, the entire RAM is transferred to the swap; the buffers should be liberated. Many thanks for looking at these issues! Re: [Bug 822611] Re: Hibernate does not work
Greetings: Many thanks for looking at this problem! Since it is about 2 months ago I reported this bug, I have re-installed 10.04 (for other reasons). When I installed 10.04 for the first time on the T410s (in May 2010), suspend and hibernate worked fine. With the progressive installation of updates, hibernate suddenly did not work anymore giving the error message that not enough swap is available. Using the Gnome system monitor, memory usage was typically ~800MiB, and the swap space is 954 MiB. After a failed hibernation, 3 of the 4 threads were running at maximum frequency and, using "cpufreq-selector", I was unable to put them back to the "ondemand" state. This problem is still present after the re-installation of 10.04 (after 11.04). Possibly, the increase of the swap will fix the hibernation-failure, but the loss of control of the CPU state might remain. To help you debugging, I executed the suggested commands before hibernation and after the failed hibernation (it was not necessary to reboot; there is no crash, but 3 threads are at maximum frequency; resetting with e. g. "sudo cpufreq-selector -c2 -g ondemand failed"). The requested files are uploaded, except /var/log/kern.log.0which was not present. To get the CPU state to "ondemand", I shall reboote now; if a kern.log.0 file is created, I'll updoad it. Please let me know, if you need further information. Many thanks! Best regards, François P. Rotzinger On 10/11/2011 12:57 PM, Dmitri Bachtin wrote: > Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make > Ubuntu better. [Bug 1023913] [NEW] Problems with "hibernate"
Public bug reported: OS: Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64, Hardware: Lenovo T410s (using Intel graphics), i5-540 M. When running pm-hibernate, and when according to "free" the RAM occupation is below the swap size, hibernation does not take place. When running subsequently "cpufreq-info", only one thread shows up (there should be 4). To put the CPU into its "normal" state requires a reboot. A partial fix: executing (as root): sync; echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches sync; echo 0 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches cat /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches frees memory. [Bug 582025] Re: Dell XPS M1330 - Suspend and Hibernate do not work in 10.04, worked in 9.1
I'm also having a suspend / hibernate problem on my Dell E6400. I have an nvidia gpu, using the proprietary driver. No SD cards in the machine. For me, hibernate and suspend stopped working in Jaunty and I'm just now getting around to trying to looking for a fix. When I tell the laptop to suspend or hibernate, the laptop goes to an illuminated black screen and doesn't sleep. When I press a key or touch the trackpad, the Log On dialog box appears. I haven't experienced a freeze either going into or coming back from suspend or hibernate. This problem appeared in autumn last year after I had been running Jaunty for several months. This spring, I updated to Karmic and then straight through to Lucid and the problem remains. I'll attach a file containing the last two log reports from my /var/log /pm-suspend.log. One records me trying to suspend, the second trying to hibernate. It looks to my untrained eye that the important lines in both cases are: /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/98tuxoniceui suspend suspend:/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/98tuxoniceui: 10: cannot create /sys/power/tuxonice/user_interface/enable_escape: Directory nonexistent Returned exit code 2. [Bug 348204] Re: [Jaunty] Intel wireless 3945ABG is unstable and disconnects frequently
karmic with kernel 2.6.31 Intel 3945 abg. Problem still exists. Mine is much more severe. Computer hangs when trying to obtain an IP address from the AP. WICD and NM produce the same results. After a full system reboot WICD will connect to the AP but has no connectivity. When pinging a url or an IP I get about 90% packet loss. After a minute or so the connection will drop and will not connect again regardless of what I do. This was a problem in 8.04, went away in 8.10, now it has rendered my laptop useless again. When I boot from a live cd with an older kernel the wireless works properly. Every time this has happened I've removed Ubuntu and installed Windows waiting for the next release. I guess its time to break out the XP cd again. -- [Jaunty] Intel wireless 3945ABG is unstable and disconnects frequently https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/348204 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
