[Bug 249804] [NEW] cheese closes as soon as it opens

2008-07-18 Thread sameer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cheese

The program 'cheese' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 47 error_code 11 request_code 141 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

something similar has occured in my lenovo y500 laptop.

[Bug 319208] [NEW] [intrepid] lenovo y500 losing keyboard and mouse control

2009-01-20 Thread sameer
Public bug reported:

lenovo y500
when doing Ctrl + () sometimes the keyboard stops working except for Ctrl + Alt
+ Bspc to logout.
Double clicks stop opening files or folders.
Clicking an option on the panel doesn't work.
Everything is back to normal after i logout an login back.
Also when I boot sometimes the keyboard and mouse don't work at all except the
power button (set to shutdown the system).
It must be known that to start ubuntu i must add 'i8042.reset' to the kernel

[Bug 556216] [NEW] ZTE AC8700 USB Modem doesnt work

2010-04-05 Thread Sameer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I have a ZTE AC800 modem that works fine with Ubuntu 9.04. But it
stopped working since Ubuntu 9.10. Currently I have installed Kubuntu
10.04 Beta 1. Even now this modem doesn't work through the network-
manager. The error I see in the /var/log/daemon.log file is:

Apr  6 09:53:18 skubuntu modem-manager: (ttyUSB0) opening serial device...
Apr  6 09:53:18 skubuntu modem-manager: Modem
/org/freedesktop/ModemManager/Modems/1: state changed (disabled -> enabling)
Apr 6 09:53:18 skubuntu modem-manager: Got failure code 100: Unknown error
Apr 6 09:53:18 skubuntu modem-manager: Your CDMA modem does not support +CMEE
command
Apr  6 09:53:18 skubuntu modem-manager: Modem
/org/freedesktop/ModemManager/Modems/1: state changed (enabling -> enabled)

But this modem still works with wvdial. The settings in the wvdial.conf
for the modem are as follows:

Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
Modem Type = Analog Modem
ISDN = 0
Phone = #777
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
Username = cdma
Password = cdma
Baud = 460800
Stupid Mode = 1

The way I made it work in Ubuntu/Kubuntu 9.10 was removing the
networkmanager of 9.10 and installing the one from 9.04. But thats not
the way one would want it to work. Right?

[Bug 276980] Re: ndiswrapper bcm4306 rev 2 won't connect regression

2009-10-08 Thread Sameer
I have a broadcom 4306 rev 02. Works fine with WPA2 in Windows 7. In
Ubuntu 9.10, using the b43legacy firmware, I am able to connect to my
WPA2 network but the connection is intermittent at best. The speed
changes constantly and usually after about 5 minutes it times out in
which case I have to use NM to manually disconnect and connect again. In
regards to ndiswrapper, I think it would work great if anyone could find
a windows driver that gives it WPA2. I haven't tried to pull the Windows
7 driver and try it with ndiswrapper yet. I can't imagine having any
luck because I haven't come across anyone who has found a Windows driver
that gives the bcm4306 WPA2 support in Ubuntu. If you have heard of one,
please do share!

DAAP sharing plugin I get an error saying "Could not activate DAAP Music
Sharing". I have simplifymedia installed but both Rhythmbox and DAAP
sharing worked fine in Jaunty and only broke when updating to Karmic.
Here is some debugging info:

[Bug 1241532] Re: fatal error on eclipse Problematic frame: C [libgobject-2.0.so.0+0x19528] g_object_get_qdata+0x18

After following the steps given by Oren Gampel and getting Eclipse
working, you can close Eclipse and revert settings back to use oxygen-
gtk for GTK2 apps. Eclipse works fine after that.

Re: [Bug 874341] Re: glx doesn't work

I just reinstalled oneiric and now glx works fine.
The nvidia drivers were installed themselves.

[Bug 1520519] Re: ASUS ROG GL552 TouchPad not detected

2016-02-02 Thread sameer
Have already tried the 4.4 version of ubuntu, and while it works for
sometimes it did develop freezing issues for few system commands . No
issues with graphics though.

For what its worth, I have been using my laptop on "fedora23 + dnf update to
update the kernel to 4.3 " for more than a week now without any issues
whatsoever.
Touchpad and hotkeys are all working fine, along with nvidia cuda ( removed
nouveau )

Interestingly the conexant sound driver for this model is also in kernel
version 4.3.
was hoping to upgrade the kernel but couldn't do so.
would definitely try out the new kernel and update this bug.

In the meantime, if anyone has already tried updating to kernel 4.4,
please update this bug.

[Bug 1520519] Re: ASUS ROG GL552 TouchPad not detected

2015-12-15 Thread sameer
Interestingly, I also tried to boot using v4.4-rc5-wily kernel with ubuntu
14.04.
The kernel refuses to boot even in recovery mode.

@cagriozsoy, can you tell whether you used cinnamon or mate with Linux Mint
17.3. Because I have already tried installing 17.3 beta cinnamon and it did not
boot.
Also, did you change any kernel parameters at boot time ( e.g.
nouveau.noaccel=1 etc etc ) ?

[Bug 1520519] Re: ASUS ROG GL552 TouchPad not detected

2016-02-13 Thread sameer
As I  mentioned earlier ( comment #29 )
you can use the following kernel parameters to install fedora23

"nouveau.modeset=0 tpm_tis.interrupts=0 acpi_osi=! acpi_backlight=native
i915.preliminary_hw_support=1 idle=nomwait"

After doing dnf update, you can remove few parameters to get

"nouveau.modeset=0 acpi_osi=! acpi_backlight=native idle=nomwait "

If you notice, the kernel parameters are reduced from the original one we
are using to install fedora.

[Bug 1520519] Re: ASUS ROG GL552 TouchPad not detected

2016-01-24 Thread sameer
I have tried with latest kernel ( 4.4 ) and it fails to even boot.
I think you should try with ubuntu 16.04 ( haven't tried myself though ).

This is what I have learnt during this period :
 Kernels below 4.3
Add these Kernel parameters  :
"nouveau.modeset=0 tpm_tis.interrupts=0 acpi_osi=! acpi_backlight=native
i915.preliminary_hw_support=1 idle=nomwait"

For kernel 4.4
nouveau.modeset=0  acpi_osi=! acpi_backlight=native  idle=nomwait

Hope it helps.

if it helps, I have also tried "Fedora 23 + dnf update", and the
touchpad works perfectly fine with kernel 4.3 along with other things.

Yes, the new kernel boots fine with the following kernel parameters
"acpi_osi=! idle=nomwait"

you can simple add these to /etc/default/grub.conf and run "update-
grub2"

And yes, the touchpad works great !!

[Bug 1520519] Re: ASUS ROG GL552 TouchPad not detected

2016-01-26 Thread sameer
@penalvch, 4.5 kernel panics. 4.4 works fine. Basically the code to
detect "Elan touchpad" is added in kernel version 4.3. The issue was
with loading the kernel itself, since the laptop we have has "skylake"
pieces , the support for which was mostly experimental in previous
versions leading to kernel panic/freeze.

@Michael, if you are looking to install ubuntu
1.  install 14.04 version ( wily )
2. download 4.4 kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.4-rc8-wily.  Download these 3
files in a separate folder ( say kernel_44 )
linux-headers-4.4.0-040400rc8-generic_4.4.0-040400rc8.201601130531_amd64.deb
linux-headers-4.4.0-040400rc8-generic_4.4.0-040400rc8.201601130531_amd64.deb
linux-image-4.4.0-040400rc8-generic_4.4.0-040400rc8.201601130531_amd64.deb

3. run the following command to install the kernel
  sudo dpkg -i  kernel_44/*.deb

4. add "acpi_osi=! idle=nomwait" in the /etc/default/grub in the kernel line.
  search for splash keyword in that file , and add this next to it,
assuming you would find splash only once in the file.

5. run
 update-grub2

6. reboot

thats it ! you would automatically boot into the new kernel, and your
touchpad should work fine.

Re: [Bug 1012074] Re: ports don't open

2012-06-13 Thread sameer
I've already checked that. there is nothing listening on that port.
The problem is vuze gives NAT problems.
This doesn't happen in windows.
Hence it is an ubuntu specific problem.
portscan doesn't show any open port in the torrent range.

Re: [Bug 1012074] Re: ports don't open

2012-06-13 Thread sameer
Yes so how to open it?

I have asked vuze to use that port for incoming connections.

I thought

sudo iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 48261 -j ACCEPT
opens up the port.

when I try to tell gufw to allow incoming connection from that port it says
error carrying the operation.

It doesn't say what the error is.

[Bug 296388] [NEW] Version numbers conflict with upstream source

2008-11-10 Thread Sameer Grover
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: morse-x

Version numbers upstream follow the format 0.MMDD and multiverse has
MMDD. For example, the package released on 15 Apr 2004 has version
number 20040415 in multiverse and 0.20040415 in the debs on the author's
home page (http://213.239.210.122/~sbeyer/#morse-x)

The implication is that if I install a newer version from the author's
page, the system wants to 'upgrade' to the older version in the
repositories.

[Bug 139045] Re: Slow suspend on various Toshiba laptops

2008-11-12 Thread Sameer Morar
I have edited my DMI table using a tool called DMICFG.EXE (easily found
via google)

Now my DMI table reflects the correct model info, and suspend works
within a reasonable time.

My previous DMI info was:
Handle 0x0001, DMI type 1, 25 bytes
System Information
Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
Product Name: 00
Version: 00
Serial Number: 00
UUID: 76BFAC00-8E55-1810-8040-C70685570381
Wake-up Type: Power Switch

I managed to edit it to show (as per it's labelling / branding):
Handle 0x0001, DMI type 1, 25 bytes
System Information
Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
Product Name: TECRA M4
Version: PTM40E-1C8038G3
Serial Number: Y5663331G
UUID: 76BFAC00-8E55-1810-8040-C70685570381
Wake-up Type: Power Switch

I recall that my laptop has had it's motherboard replaced, so this is
probably how this information was lost.

Thanks for pushing the fix into proposed. As far as I can tell, the fix
should be in kernel version 2.6.27-10.20, but the latest kernel version
that I can see in proposed is 2.6.27-8.17.

Did the build fail?

[Bug 302649] Re: scipy.weave.inline compilation fails with gcc 4.3

2008-11-26 Thread Sameer Morar
Attached is some python code which demonstrates the bug. To reproduce, please
follow the following steps:
1) Ensure that gcc-4.3 is installed:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/bin# ls -la g++
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 2008-11-27 02:37 g++ -> g++-4.3

2) Remove pre-compiled python snippets

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ rm -rf /home/smorar/.python25_compiled/

3) Run code

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ python weave_test.py
The compilation will fail with the above error.

To demonstrate that this is related to the latest gcc:
1) Ensure that gcc-4.2 is installed

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/bin# rm g++
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/bin# ln -s g++-4.2 g++

2) Remove pre-compiled python snippets

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ rm -rf /home/smorar/.python25_compiled/

3) Run code

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ python weave_test.py
The compilation will succeed (with many compiler warnings), and the python / c
code produces the expected output.

[Bug 374153] [NEW] excessive memory usage by ssindex when indexing large spreadsheets

2009-05-09 Thread Sameer Morar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tracker

Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04
tracker:
  Installed: 0.6.93-0ubuntu1
gnumeric:
  Installed: 1.8.4-3ubuntu2

Tracker uses ssindex (from the gnumeric package) to index spreadsheet
files (.csv, .xls etc...)

When a spreadsheet file is large (>50 mb), the ssindex process uses at
least 5 times that amount of memory to index the file.

This results in a slow, un-responsive system, requiring the ssindex
process to be killed.

I have had to prevent tracker from starting up, as excluding spreadsheet
files in the index preferences doesn't seem to work either.

I can confirm that this problem exists for me using the Intrepid beta,

I think that part of the problem in this case is that my DMI table is

determining which Toshiba laptops are affected?

Re: [Bug 256562] Re: Update Manager

2008-08-10 Thread Sameer Khan
Hi,

thankyou for replying...

well, the symptom is that this error comes all the time when i start
update manager, or when i run it from the command promt as well with
the sudo apt command.

I guess this started to happen when I changed the XDMCP.conf
configuration file setting the attributes to be configured with vnc
remote desktop.

guess this is sufficient for ya... if anything, do ask.

you can also catch me on gtalk, msn or yahoo, add me up: sameerk1980.
incase you wish we can hit this online togeather.

[Bug 27069] Re: Printing to a Netware queue is not supported

2008-08-04 Thread Sameer Morar
Wouldn't the simplest resolution here be:

ncpfs package (which provides nprint), provides and installs a CUPS
backend which can be referred to by ncp://...

s-c-p provides the ability to be able to specify the ncp backend in it's
device uri configuration, either as an 'other' device, or as a 'novell
queue', which would be present in the select connection box in the New
Printer configuration, if the backend is available

As an answer to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/system-config-
printer/+bug/27069/comments/6, as the original reporter, I don't
personally need this support anymore, however, I did, up until the end
of 2006. Anyone within an old Novell environment will probably need it
still, but I have no idea how prolific these setups are nowadays. It is
a low priority request, but this support would enable smoother Ubuntu
usage in those type of environments. Currently SLED and Fedora support
it.

[Bug 91890] Re: Custom DNS settings lost on boot

2008-12-17 Thread VK Sameer
This document (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NetworkManager0.7 - in
section titled 'Creating/Modifying a User connection') has an
interesting claim:

  Hint Auto created connections are not editable. Modifying them without
changing names will not be saved

Yet to confirm with a reboot, but custom DNS servers remained in
/etc/resolv.conf after a variation on this sequence:

- Edit Connections...
- Edit 'Auto eth0'
- Change to Automatic (DHCP) addresses only in 'IPv4 Settings' tab
- Added DNS Servers 4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2
- Change 'Auto eth0' to 'DHCP+static-DNS' (arbitrary name) and 'Close'
- Verify /etc/resolv.conf contains custom DNS servers
- Uncheck 'Enable Networking' to disable networking and verify /etc/resolv.conf
empty
- Re-check 'Enable Networking'

[Bug 66324] On boot, grub shows a garbled screen

2006-10-15 Thread Sameer Morar
Public bug reported:

When booting, grub shows a garbled screen. It still boots into Ubuntu,
and the menu can be manipulated blindly.

Upon further investigation, /boot/grub/menu.lst contains a reference to
/boot/grub/default-splash.xpm.gz, which is a symlink to a file that does
not exist (/usr/share/pixmaps/grub/ubuntu-artwork.xpm.gz)

Grub was working as expected before I upgraded from Dapper -> Edgy. I
suspect that the ubuntu-artwork.xpm.gz file was lost in the upgrade, or
is provided by a different package that grub does not seem to depend
upon.

Alternatively, the upgrade of grub did not reinstall the menu.lst file
with an updated splashscreen file location.

** Affects: grub (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 153752] Re: [needs-packaging] apt-torrent

2007-10-24 Thread Sameer Verma
The author (Arnaud Kyheng) mentions that the original goal of the
package was to deal with large packages. I would go beyond that though,
to simply see this as a network alleviation approach to the burst of
traffic that Ubuntu mirrors would see in October and April.

Considering that torrent will scale up in correlation to leechers who
become seeders (especially for small packages, leechers will become
seeders quickly) we should see a much better scale when dist-upgrading.

Currently the Software Sources item under Administration in Gutsy has an
option to add sources that says

" The APT line includes the type, location and components of a
repository, for example 'deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy
main'."

Wish:

"The APT line includes the type, location and components of a
repository, for example 'deb torrent://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy
main'."
