[Bug 249804] [NEW] cheese closes as soon as it opens

I have a broadcom 4306 rev 02. Works fine with WPA2 in Windows 7. In Ubuntu 9.10, using the b43legacy firmware, I am able to connect to my WPA2 network but the connection is intermittent at best. The speed changes constantly and usually after about 5 minutes it times out in which case I have to use NM to manually disconnect and connect again. Have already tried the 4.4 version of ubuntu, and while it works for sometimes it did develop freezing issues for few system commands . No issues with graphics though. Interestingly the conexant sound driver for this model is also in kernel version 4.3. was hoping to upgrade the kernel but couldn't do so. would definitely try out the new kernel and update this bug. [Bug 1520519] Re: ASUS ROG GL552 TouchPad not detected
Interestingly, I also tried to boot using v4.4-rc5-wily kernel with ubuntu 14.04. The kernel refuses to boot even in recovery mode. @cagriozsoy, can you tell whether you used cinnamon or mate with Linux Mint 17.3. Because I have already tried installing 17.3 beta cinnamon and it did not boot. [Bug 1520519] Re: ASUS ROG GL552 TouchPad not detected
I have tried with latest kernel ( 4.4 ) and it fails to even boot. I think you should try with ubuntu 16.04 ( haven't tried myself though ). This is what I have learnt during this period : Kernels below 4.3 Add these Kernel parameters : "nouveau.modeset=0 tpm_tis.interrupts=0 acpi_osi=! acpi_backlight=native i915.preliminary_hw_support=1 idle=nomwait" For kernel 4.4 nouveau.modeset=0 acpi_osi=! acpi_backlight=native idle=nomwait Hope it helps. if it helps, I have also tried "Fedora 23 + dnf update", and the touchpad works perfectly fine with kernel 4.3 along with other things. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1520519 Title: ASUS ROG GL552 TouchPad not detected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1520519/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1520519] Re: ASUS ROG GL552 TouchPad not detected
Yes, the new kernel boots fine with the following kernel parameters "acpi_osi=! idle=nomwait" you can simple add these to /etc/default/grub.conf and run "update- grub2" And yes, the touchpad works great !!
@penalvch, 4.5 kernel panics. 4.4 works fine. Basically the code to detect "Elan touchpad" is added in kernel version 4.3. The issue was with loading the kernel itself, since the laptop we have has "skylake" pieces , the support for which was mostly experimental in previous versions leading to kernel panic/freeze. @Michael, if you are looking to install ubuntu 1. install 14.04 version ( wily ) 2. download 4.4 kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.4-rc8-wily. Download these 3 files in a separate folder ( say kernel_44 ) linux-headers-4.4.0-040400rc8-generic_4.4.0-040400rc8.201601130531_amd64.deb linux-headers-4.4.0-040400rc8-generic_4.4.0-040400rc8.201601130531_amd64.deb linux-image-4.4.0-040400rc8-generic_4.4.0-040400rc8.201601130531_amd64.deb 3. run the following command to install the kernel sudo dpkg -i kernel_44/*.deb 4. add "acpi_osi=! idle=nomwait" in the /etc/default/grub in the kernel line. search for splash keyword in that file , and add this next to it, assuming you would find splash only once in the file. 5. run update-grub2 6. reboot thats it ! you would automatically boot into the new kernel, and your touchpad should work fine.

Re: [Bug 1012074] Re: ports don't open
I've already checked that. there is nothing listening on that port. The problem is vuze gives NAT problems. This doesn't happen in windows. Hence it is an ubuntu specific problem. portscan doesn't show any open port in the torrent range. On Wed, Jun 13, 2012 at 6:12 AM, Phillip Susi wrote: > Do you have something listening on that port? Re: [Bug 1012074] Re: ports don't open
Yes so how to open it? I have asked vuze to use that port for incoming connections. I thought sudo iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 48261 -j ACCEPT opens up the port. when I try to tell gufw to allow incoming connection from that port it says error carrying the operation. It doesn't say what the error is. [Bug 302649] Re: scipy.weave.inline compilation fails with gcc 4.3
Attached is some python code which demonstrates the bug. To reproduce, please follow the following steps: 1) Ensure that gcc-4.3 is installed: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/bin# ls -la g++ lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 2008-11-27 02:37 g++ -> g++-4.3 2) Remove pre-compiled python snippets [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ rm -rf /home/smorar/.python25_compiled/ 3) Run code [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ python weave_test.py The compilation will fail with the above error. To demonstrate that this is related to the latest gcc: 1) Ensure that gcc-4.2 is installed [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/bin# rm g++ [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/bin# ln -s g++-4.2 g++ 2) Remove pre-compiled python snippets [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ rm -rf /home/smorar/.python25_compiled/ 3) Run code [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ python weave_test.py The compilation will succeed (with many compiler warnings), and the python / c code produces the expected output. ** Attachment added: "Example python code which demonstrates the bug" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19978957/weave_test.py -- scipy.weave.inline compilation fails with gcc 4.3 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/302649 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 374153] [NEW] excessive memory usage by ssindex when indexing large spreadsheets
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: tracker Description:Ubuntu 9.04 Release:9.04 tracker: Installed: 0.6.93-0ubuntu1 gnumeric: Installed: 1.8.4-3ubuntu2 Tracker uses ssindex (from the gnumeric package) to index spreadsheet files (.csv, .xls etc...) When a spreadsheet file is large (>50 mb), the ssindex process uses at least 5 times that amount of memory to index the file. Wouldn't the simplest resolution here be: ncpfs package (which provides nprint), provides and installs a CUPS backend which can be referred to by ncp://... s-c-p provides the ability to be able to specify the ncp backend in it's device uri configuration, either as an 'other' device, or as a 'novell queue', which would be present in the select connection box in the New Printer configuration, if the backend is available As an answer to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/system-config- printer/+bug/27069/comments/6, as the original reporter, I don't personally need this support anymore, however, I did, up until the end of 2006. Anyone within an old Novell environment will probably need it still, but I have no idea how prolific these setups are nowadays. It is a low priority request, but this support would enable smoother Ubuntu usage in those type of environments. Currently SLED and Fedora support it. -- Printing to a Netware queue is not supported https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/27069 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 91890] Re: Custom DNS settings lost on boot
This document (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NetworkManager0.7 - in section titled 'Creating/Modifying a User connection') has an interesting claim: Hint Auto created connections are not editable. [Bug 66324] On boot, grub shows a garbled screen
Public bug reported: When booting, grub shows a garbled screen. It still boots into Ubuntu, and the menu can be manipulated blindly. Upon further investigation, /boot/grub/menu.lst contains a reference to /boot/grub/default-splash.xpm.gz, which is a symlink to a file that does not exist (/usr/share/pixmaps/grub/ubuntu-artwork.xpm.gz) Grub was working as expected before I upgraded from Dapper -> Edgy. I suspect that the ubuntu-artwork.xpm.gz file was lost in the upgrade, or is provided by a different package that grub does not seem to depend upon. Alternatively, the upgrade of grub did not reinstall the menu.lst file with an updated splashscreen file location. ** Affects: grub (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- On boot, grub shows a garbled screen https://launchpad.net/bugs/66324 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 153752] Re: [needs-packaging] apt-torrent
The author (Arnaud Kyheng) mentions that the original goal of the package was to deal with large packages. I would go beyond that though, to simply see this as a network alleviation approach to the burst of traffic that Ubuntu mirrors would see in October and April. Considering that torrent will scale up in correlation to leechers who become seeders (especially for small packages, leechers will become seeders quickly) we should see a much better scale when dist-upgrading. Currently the Software Sources item under Administration in Gutsy has an option to add sources that says " The APT line includes the type, location and components of a repository, for example 'deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy main'."
