[Bug 299179] Re: Update workrave to 1.9.0

2008-11-17 Thread François Marier
Unfortunately workrave 1.9.0 also introduces new bugs, namely an
duplicate icon in the notification area and a hard to reproduce crash on
dual monitor setups.

I would advise against updating the stable intrepid release and would
instead recommend waiting to get the latest version in jaunty.

That's a very good point.

I've built a new package with the change you suggested. I have broken up

This new package is in my PPA:

Could you test it and let me know if it fixes your problem?

Thanks,

[Bug 390471] Re: Cross-site scripting vulnerabilities

2009-06-26 Thread François Marier
Hi Jamie,

The version in jaunty/intrepid is not affected by CVE-2009-2171 since
that problems was introduced in the 1.1 series of Mahara.

In terms of the intrepid package, I believe that, like with previous
security fixes, we can ignore it because it has never worked at all
(e.g. can't login). It's only with jaunty that Ubuntu is shipping a
functional Mahara.

Cheers,
Francois

I run duplicity from a cron job, so this is making it very hard for me
to monitor whether or not backup worked. Is there an easy way to filter

I tried "duplicity ... | grep -v "DeprecationWarning" 2>&1" but that

[Bug 340863] Re: CVE-2009-0660 Multiple XSS vulnerabilities in Mahara 1.0.9

2009-03-11 Thread François Marier
I understand that there is a feature freeze, but is a freeze exception
needed even if the new upstream version doesn't introduce new features?

Mahara 1.0.x is currently the old stable version and so it only gets bug
fixes (see the release notes at
http://mahara.org/interaction/forum/topic.php?id=351).

Upgrading the Jaunty version now would fix a few bugs and would make it
easier to apply future fixes if needed.

Since Jaunty is not released yet, I assumed that we didn't have to
follow the regular security procedure and that we could just update to
the latest upstream point release.

[Bug 278943] Re: Spellchecking doesn't work in Pidgin and Tomboy with LC_ALL=fr_CH.UTF8

2008-10-18 Thread François Marier
Here is a debdiff between the current package in intrepid and the one in
my PPA. The only change is to add a few symlinks from non-France French
locales back to the fr_FR dictionary.

I don't believe that there is much potential to break any other
dictionaries (or even the fr_FR one).

However, this fix is quite important because without it French speakers
outside of France will not be able to use the spellchecker in programs
like pidgin and tomboy.

I know that it is very late in the release schedule, but please consider
giving this package a Freeze exception. Otherwise, it should be
considered for the first Stable Release Update.

[Bug 286146] Re: Please sync docvert 3.4-6 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2008-10-19 Thread François Marier
(I am the Debian maintainer of this package)

I'd like to request a freeze exception for the docvert source package (which
includes docvert and docvert-openoffice.org).

The latest version in sid (3.4-6) fixes the following serious problems:

  - Debian #502322: initscript hangs the boot process (release-critical)

  - missing dependency of docvert-openoffice.org on docvert (this is
required and docvert-openoffice.org won't work without it)

  - initscript could kill openoffice processes belonging to other
users

And it also contains trivial fixes for the following problems:

  - Debian #493334: check that docvert is installed when running the cronjob
  - Debian #489796: capitalization change to the small description
  - initscript was referring to the wrong names in the LSB comments

As it is, the docvert package is severely broken and I would highly
recommend that it be synced from unstable.

[Bug 139570] Re: Documents in swiss-french are not spell checked

2008-09-28 Thread François Marier
I have just built a patched version of hunspell-fr. Could someone
confirm that it works for non fr_FR locales on Ubuntu intrepid?

The package is available from my PPA:

  deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/fmarier/ubuntu intrepid main

I can see this:

  $ cat /usr/share/myspell/infos/ooo/hunspell-fr

  DICT fr FR fr_FR

  DICT fr BE fr_FR

  DICT fr CA fr_FR

  DICT fr CH fr_FR

  DICT fr LU fr_FR

But if someone else could confirm that the French dictionary actually works in
OpenOffice using a non-France locale, that would be much appreciated.

[Bug 247451] [NEW] Please sync safe-rm 0.2-5 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2008-07-10 Thread François Marier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: safe-rm

Please sync safe-rm 0.2-5 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

The latest version of safe-rm fixes a very important bug which can lead

to the temporary loss of /bin/rm

Changelog since current intrepid version 0.2-3:

safe-rm (0.2-5) unstable; urgency=high

  * Add a debconf question to abort the upgrade. Someone pointed out
that

the fact that rm is temporarily missing during an upgrade is likely
to

cause problems if you're upgrading more than just safe-rm.

[Bug 139570] Re: Documents in swiss-french are not spell checked

2008-09-29 Thread François Marier
Here is a debdiff between the current package in intrepid and the one in
my PPA. As you can see, it is simply adding a few countries to the list
of locales which make use of the French fr_FR dictionary.

Given the size of this change, the potential impact on the rest of the
package (or distribution) is minimal.

However, this fix is quite important because without it French speakers
outside of France will not be able to use the spellchecker in Open
Office. I believe that this would be a show-stopper for a lot of users.

Therefore I would like to request a BetaFreeze Exception.

[Bug 279752] Re: chkrootkit kills random processes

2008-10-07 Thread François Marier
(Note: I am the Debian maintainer for chkrootkit)

Hi Alexander, I have just built a fixed package for Hardy in my PPA:

  deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/fmarier/ubuntu hardy main

Could you try it out and let me know if you think it's fine.

I have attached a debdiff between the package that's in Hardy and the
one I just built. As you can see, this is a trivial fix and I can't see
it having any impact at all on the rest of the package.

Aside from the patch being safe, I think that this fix would qualify for
a Stable Release Update since the problem that Alexander reported could
lead to loss of user data depending on which process is actually killed
by chkrootkit (for example, a mail server, open office, etc.).

This is fixed in the version of chkrootkit that's in intrepid, so it's
only a problem for the current LTS release of Ubuntu.

[Bug 269203] Re: Please sync safe-rm 0.3-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2008-09-11 Thread François Marier
(I'm both the Debian maintainer and upstream for this project)

I believe that the bug that was fixed in 0.3 is quite important. Without
this fix, the protection guaranteed by this package can be much smaller
than what people would expect.

For example, on 0.2, even if you blacklist the file
'/home/username/todo.txt', typing "rm todo.txt" in your home directory
will delete the file.

So technically, this bug doesn't make the package unusable, but it can
be argued that it makes it quite a bit less useful.

Anyways, aside from the debconf translations and the slight alteration
to the package description, the difference between intrepid and Debian
unstable is a one-line fix to /usr/bin/safe-rm:

--- a/safe-rm

+++ b/safe-rm

@@ -131,7 +131,7 @@ for (my $i = 0; $i <= $#ARGV; $i++) {

 # Normalize the pathname

 my $normalized_pathname = $pathname;

-if ($normalized_pathname =~ m|/|) {

+if ($normalized_pathname =~ m|/| or -e "$normalized_pathname") {

 # Convert to an absolute path (e.g. remove "..")

 $normalized_pathname = realpath($normalized_pathname);

 $normalized_pathname = $pathname unless $normalized_pathname;

Hence I would highly recommend that this package by synced before intrepid is
released.

[Bug 342095] Re: Please sync email-reminder 0.7.5-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2009-03-12 Thread François Marier
Actually, I would like to bump the priority of this one because I
wouldn't want email-reminder to ruin someone's marriage!

As it is, it is very likely that an anniversary event will never get
sent.

This version of email-reminder adds new error-reporting for any
unexpected errors while processing an event.

(I am both the upstream and the Debian maintainer of this)

[Bug 344021] [NEW] Please sync email-reminder 0.7.5-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2009-03-16 Thread François Marier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: email-reminder

email-reminder (0.7.5-2) unstable; urgency=high

  * Fix config parsing to match the output of debconf. This fixes a
problem introduced in 0.7.5-1 where SSL would be turned on if the
"smtp_ssl" config variable was set to "false".
  * Urgency high because it breaks most emails sent out.

[Bug 326028] [NEW] Bad smarty include breaks Mahara completely

2009-02-05 Thread François Marier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mahara

This is what you get when loading the main Mahara page:

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required
'smarty/libs/Smarty.class.php'
(include_path='/usr/share/mahara/lib/:/usr/share/mahara/lib/pear/:.:/usr/share/php:/usr/share/pear')
in /usr/share/mahara/lib/web.php on line 31

The reason for this is the include path for smarty which expects the
Debian install path (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/smarty/+bug/118793).

This breaks Mahara completely, there is no way to use it without
applying this patch.

[Bug 350732] [NEW] IAX2 encryption: calls end abrutly due to normal packet loss

2009-03-28 Thread François Marier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: asterisk

As described upstream, IAX2 encryption is broken in the Jaunty version
of asterisk:

If an iax channel is encrypted, and a retransmit frame is sent, that packet's
iseqno
is updated while it is encrypted. This causes the entire frame to be
corrupted. When
the corrupted frame is sent, the other side decrypts it and sends a VNAK back
because
the decrypted frame doesn't make any sense. When we get the VNAK, we look
through the
sent queue and send the same corrupted frame causing a loop. To fix this,
encrypted
frames requiring retransmission are decrypted, updated, then re-encrypted.
Since
key-rotation may change the key held by the pvt struct, the keys used for
encryption/decryption are held within the iax_frame to guarantee they remain
correct.

This makes it practically impossible to turn IAX2 encryption in most of my calls
because the connection constantly cuts off. So it's a very serious bug for
anybody using
encryption with Asterisk.

I have attached a debdiff which applies the upstream patch on the
current Jaunty version.

[Bug 139570] Re: Documents in swiss-french are not spell checked

2008-02-24 Thread François Marier
Hi Jonathan,

I have uploaded a new version of the package to Debian unstable. It
should fix this problem, but it would be great if you could confirm
that.

I've made a version for gutsy and it's in my personal package archive
at:

  deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/fmarier/ubuntu gutsy main

If you confirm that it works for you, then I will request a sync to be
made so that the package makes it into the next stable Ubuntu release.

Thanks.

Francois

[Bug 139570] Re: Documents in swiss-french are not spell checked

2008-02-24 Thread François Marier
Sorry, the original build had failed and I hadn't noticed.

It should work fine now, I have just tested it (using apt-get upgrade)
on a gutsy i386 machine.

Has this change been pushed to Debian?

It sounds really useful and it would be great to see it there as well.

[Bug 219518] [NEW] dist-upgrade fails if /tmp is non-executable (mounted as noexec)

2008-04-19 Thread François Marier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

On a Gutsy system where /tmp is non-executable (mounted with the noexec
flag), update-manager refuses to upgrade to Hardy with the following
error message on the command-line:

  extracting '/tmp/tmp71EIa8/hardy.tar.gz'
  authenticate '/tmp/tmp71EIa8/hardy.tar.gz' against
'/tmp/tmp71EIa8/hardy.tar.gz.gpg'
  Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/UpdateManager/UpdateManager.py",
line 915, in on_button_dist_upgrade_clicked
  fetcher.run()
File

51, in runDistUpgrader
  os.execv(self.script,[self.script]+self.run_options)
OSError: [Errno 13] Permission non accordée

(Note that it works fine when upgrading normal packages.)

I suggest two things:
1- Check to see if the file can be executed and returning a more
user-friendly error message when it isn't.
2- Create a temporary directory in the current directory as a fallback when
/tmp cannot be used.

Of course, it would be nice if it did work (see #2), but I would also
consider this problem solved if a nice (graphical) error message was
displayed to the user (see #1).
