The Debian/Ubuntu "upgrade-system" package automates updating the APT package list, installing updated packages and removing 'orphaned' packages. It is very convenient for unattended upgrades of multiple computers because it can either be run interactively, or without a controlling terminal. The "upgrade-system" config file is: /etc/upgrade-system.conf By default, "upgrade-system" allows "deborphan to 'guess' which packages to remove: ORPHANOPTS="--guess-all --libdevel" This removes too many packages that are installed by "med-bio-dev' in particular, so I edited the config file to stop "deborphan" guessing: ORPHANOPTS="--no-guess-all --libdevel" It appears that a recent upgrade unconditionally overwrote my edited "upgrade-system.conf", which resulted in most of the packages installed by "med-bio-dev" being removed from five of my bioinformatics servers. Yes, it is a user's responsibility to check but I was caught out by it recently so I posted a bug report because I thought other people might also have the same problem when using "upgrade-system" with defaults. The "upgrade-system" package is very convenient, but the default settings allow "deborphan" to guess what to remove. In my experience, that often results in "deborphan" removing packages that are needed. [Bug 1724999] Re: Claws Mail 'fancy' plugin missing in 17.10
Any progress on getting the fancy plugin back? Claws 4.0 is now on GTK3 and the fancy plugin uses libwebkit2gtk, so the security issues with the legacy libwebkit should be resolved. Or not? I've built the fancy plugin from the 4.0 source and it runs well, nicer than Dillo. Use a shedload of memory though! [Bug 1956141] [NEW] Coordination of windows on multiple screens makes little sense
Public bug reported: I am using a laptop with internal and external monitor. At startup, naturally the windows show on the laptop. Once the second (large) monitor comes up, I want to move some (video, VLC, utc) there. Actually, what happens is that all windows move there. I refer to https://askubuntu.com/questions/340373/how-to-start-a-program-always-on-second-monitor https://askubuntu.com/questions/846777/windows-move-to-external-monitor-at-connection https://askubuntu.com/questions/296857/active-windows-moved-to-secondary-screen https://askubuntu.com/questions/470324/how-to-move-all-windows-to-another-workspace and https://askubuntu.com/questions/752208/set-default-monitor?rq=1 as a workaround for the situations described further up. Here it does not work: xrandr -q | grep primary eDP-1 connected primary 1920x1080+1+1080 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 256mm x 144mm Meaning, that the opened windows move to the external monitor, be it turned on or off, as long as it is detected (power supply of second monitor connected). And done again, once switched on. The reason is explained in one of the posts cited further up: X considers 0,0 as upper left screen edge. And, true, my second monitor is setup to be above the primary laptop screen. I consider this not very useful for some situations, like mine. Due to age, I sit with reading glasses in front of my laptop, and want to shift specific applications like VLC to the large screen in order to watch movies, e.g. Simply starting up however, already positions the windows already there. And with my reading glasses, I cannot see or read anything on that second screen due to the distance. So I also have to switch glasses to be able to discern the windows there, in order to drag them back to the laptop screen for reading purposes with my reading glasses window by window (so I have to change glasses yet again.) Overall, even without my predicaments, I consider it more suitable to allocate a window to a screen / monitor instead of adapting to the current screen positioning. I'd be happy to be able to stick a window to a video output, like browser to the internal monitor, and VLC to the external monitor. A good workaround would be if I could at least define that all newly opened windows pop up on the primary screen (laptop). Moving a window (e.g. VLC, by using a mouse) from this primary screen to the second monitor would be fully acceptable. Personally I consider this bug as somewhere between minor and RFE. At least, to me a design decision to move applications around between monitors, including relocation to a second monitor that is switched off, seems suboptimal. ** Affects: xrandr (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956141 Title: Coordination of windows on multiple screens makes little sense To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xrandr/+bug/1956141/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: I did a clean install of Lubuntu 20.04.3 LTS on my system and I didn't install any extra software after this install. [Bug 1956117] Re: fonts-dejavu-core is a required dependency of ubuntu metapackages
If that's the case, then your concern is against the ubuntu-meta package and not fonts-dejavu. However, I wouldn't consider this a bug, but it's still worth discussion, so I'm changing this to "opinion" and keeping it open under ubuntu-meta. That said, just because other distributions are doing something doesn't mean Ubuntu is required to do it. >MOZ_REQUIRE_SIGNING is a security measure to prevent users from running unsigned (and potentially damaging) extensions, while I understand your use case it is not reasonable to suggest turning it off by default for all Ubuntu users. If I remember right, it was a consensus that the policy of enforcement of Mozilla policy applies only to builds for Linux built by Mozilla itself, and distros were free to not to enforce Mozilla policy. It may make sense to rename the package back into iceweasel and not to be bound by Mozilla harmful policy. The usage of the name "Firefox" is less valuable than the ability to customize the browser as we wish. [Bug 1956162] [NEW] Logic errors in error-reporting code cause a highly misleading message to be emitted: ERROR @wl_set_key_mgmt : invalid cipher group (1027076)
Public bug reported: >Problem: error `ERROR @wl_set_key_mgmt : invalid cipher group (1027076)` 1. Logic errors in error-reporting code cause a highly misleading message to be emitted. The problem is not within cipher group (that is supported WLAN_CIPHER_SUITE_CCMP). ```patch - WL_ERR(("invalid cipher group (%d)\n", sme->crypto.cipher_group)); + WL_ERR(("invalid akm suite (%d)\n", sme->crypto.akm_suites[0])); ``` 2. Once we fix the error-reporting logic we get the correct error message: > ERROR @wl_set_key_mgmt : invalid akm suite (1027078) It is because that case (WLAN_AKM_SUITE_PSK_SHA256) is not processed. Even the mere presence of it in announced cipher suites is enough to break wifi. Not only for this driver, but also for drivers for Windows. I have ported processing of the cases from the open-source driver, but it still doesn't work and causes errors in kernel. Likely it requires some code in other places, maybe even in firmware. `wpa_key_mgmt=WPA-PSK WPA-PSK-SHA256` in `hostapd` config (currently it is defaults on OpenWRT). The OpenWRT wiki is incorrect, in `/etc/config/wireless` `ieee80211w=1` is the default, which causes `wpa_key_mgmt` be generated so. `wpa_key_mgmt=WPA-PSK SAE` in `hostapd` config works fine (if these shitty crashing drivers can be called working fine). To make it so, explicitly set `ieee80211w=0` in `/etc/config/wireless`. So the second patch just gives the explanination to the user what happens and the instructions on what to fix in his router configuration as a workaround. ** Affects: bcmwl (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Patch added: "0001-Fixed-error-reporting-ported-from-the-recent-version.patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956162/+attachment/5550587/+files/0001-Fixed-error-reporting-ported-from-the-recent-version.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956162 Title: Logic errors in error-reporting code cause a highly misleading message to be emitted: ERROR @wl_set_key_mgmt : invalid cipher group (1027076) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/1956162/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1956165] [NEW] Mere presence of WLAN_AKM_SUITE_PSK_SHA256 cipher suite disrupts connection
Public bug reported: I have tried to port support from brcm80211, but haven't succeed. Here is my draft. It is based on https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/fc02cb2b37fe2cbf1d3334b9f0f0eab9431766c4/drivers/net/wireless/broadcom/brcm80211/brcmfmac/cfg80211.c and https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/5bfc75d92efd494db37f5c4c173d3639d4772966/drivers/net/wireless/broadcom/brcm80211/include/brcmu_wifi.h It is likely that some code additions in other places are needed, but since I haven't found the analogous places, I guess they can be within chip firmware. ** Affects: bcmwl (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Patch added: "it does not work" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956165/+attachment/5550592/+files/0003-Trying-to-implement-cyphersuites-support.-Not-working.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956165 Title: Mere presence of WLAN_AKM_SUITE_PSK_SHA256 cipher suite disrupts connection To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/1956165/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I was able to verify that "Depends: " line for libvirt-dev should work based on the source package. Testing a local 'debuild' of libvirt packages seems to work and produced: libvirt-dev_6.0.0-0ubuntu8.15_amd64.deb Build + Sign + Install on my local machine provided a workaround for the missing package.
