[Bug 1651923] Re: apt https method decodes redirect locations and sends them to the destination undecoded.

2018-06-23 Thread John via ubuntu-bugs
I still have this issue. I upgraded from 16.04.4 LTS yesterday and now
have 18.04LTS and still have this issue.

I'd rather get it fixed than resulting to cheap tricks.

Is anyone going to work on this?

[Bug 1651923] Re: apt https method decodes redirect locations and sends them to the destination undecoded.

2018-06-23 Thread John via ubuntu-bugs
Additionally I ran this workaround but when running apt-get upgrade it
still tries to upgrade this ttf install and fails the same way

workaround:

wget http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/contrib/m/msttcorefonts/ttf-
mscorefonts-installer_3.6_all.deb

sudo dpkg -i ttf-mscorefonts-installer_3.6_all.deb

still get the failed download from sourceforge problem that everyone
around the internet also reports getting, please fix this

[Bug 1778322] [NEW] gvfs-smb-browse can't browse samba/smb tree

2018-06-23 Thread Sebastian Byczkowski
Public bug reported:

On Bionic Beaver 18.04.1 gvfs-smb-browse can't browse smbtree because of
that Nautilus displays "Empty Folder" when clicking "Windows Network"

Nautilus should show smbtree nad host on the smb network.

When inputing this command:
killall gvfsd-smb-browse && GVFS_DEBUG=1 /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-smb-browse

You can see the error:
smb-network: Queued new job 0x55b19a2c9f40 (GVfsJobCreateMonitor)
smb-network: send_reply(0x55b19a2c9f40), failed=1 (Action not supported by the
processing engine)
smb-network: backend_dbus_handler org.gtk.vfs.Mount:QueryFilesystemInfo
(pid=5708)
smb-network: Queued new job 0x55b19a2e7820 (GVfsJobQueryFsInfo)
smb-network: send_reply(0x55b19a2e7820), failed=0 ()
smb-network: backend_dbus_handler org.gtk.vfs.Mount:Enumerate (pid=5708)
smb-network: Queued new job 0x55b19a2c30c0 (GVfsJobEnumerate)
smb-network: send_reply(0x55b19a2c30c0), failed=0 ()

Proposed solution:
Add gvfsbackendbrowse-switch-to-NT1.patch disscused on RedHat Bugzilla
[link]https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1513394
which implements "change to NT1" in gvfs-smb-browse to browse smbtree to aviod
adding "max client protocol" = NT1" to smb.conf to switch all samba to unsafe
NT1 which most users are doing to correct this bug.

[Bug 1690085]

2018-06-23 Thread xiyou.wangcong
Hey, guys

We have been seeing this smp function call soft lockup since 3.x kernel.
Unfortunately we don't know how to reproduce it either.

I suspect there is something on other CPU (not shown without sysrq-l)
blocking the smp call function execution, we have to figure out what it
is. So next time you see a living case of this bug, please collect the
stack traces on all the CPU's at that time, use sysrq-l.

Thanks!

[Bug 151448]

2018-06-23 Thread Martin
Since this was just marked as staged, I compiled wine-staging from git
(AUR package wine-staging-git - wine-staging-git
3.10.r14.g7c9f9bc0+wine.3.10.r149.g9ef8fa2a0b-1)

Set up latest SAI in a fresh wine prefix -
https://www.systemax.jp/bin/sai-1.2.5-ful-en.exe

and neither with the default SAI config or with `AvoidOldWacomBug = 1`
and `TabletMouseSimulation = 1` does the sensitivity work.

Am I missing something?

[Bug 1778325] [NEW] Installer tries to install in BIOS mode on drive larger than 2 TB

2018-06-23 Thread Robert Pearson
Public bug reported:

I replaced a failing hard drive with a new one. I installed Ubuntu MATE
18.04 and then tried to boot it. Complete failure.

I have read that currently the Linux installer checks to see how the
installation media was booted. If it booted as legacy BIOS it installs
Linux as legacy BIOS bootable. If it is booted as UEFI, then it installs
as UEFI bootable.

This algorithm is valid as long as the target hard drive is 2 TB or
smaller. If the the drive is larger that 2 TB it must use a GUID
Partition Table and boot with UEFI. Now that 3 TB and 4 TB drives are
getting cheaper, the algorithm needs to be brought up to 2005 standards
and install as UEFI regardless of how the installation media was booted.

The installer should also check the for an UEFI System Partition, create
it if needed, and install any missing UEFI files. They are on the
installation DVD, the current installation program does not bother to
check the target drive and copy required UEFI files.

The installation media is a DVD with the latest Ubuntu MATE 18.04 ISO.

marvin@X1-18:~$ telegram-desktop
telegram-desktop: error while loading shared libraries: libQt5Network.so.5:

Could be an issue during ubuntu install?

[Bug 1776443] Re: iwlwifi-29 kernel timeout queue active on fifo 2 and stuck

2018-06-23 Thread Brian Burch
I installed the latest upstream kernel, headers and modules. As far as I
can tell, it suffers exactly the same failure as the latest released
bionic lowlatency kernel. The stack ttrace seems very similar and the
timeout message looks to be the same. My guess is still the intel
iwlwifi version 29 firmware (although all the older versions which will
load onto my 3165 wifi adapter have failed in similar but not identical
ways).

I will attach a couple of journalctl logs for anyone interested and
knowledgeable enough to compare.

[Bug 1774950] Re: Suspend fails in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 17.10 (and on Kubuntu 18.04 using kernel 4.14.47)

2018-06-23 Thread pHeLiOn
@kaihengfeng - tested Hibernate function (with kernel 4.15 with patch
applied) on Ubuntu 18.04 with a swap file and Kubuntu 18.04 with a swap
partition on the same machine.

Both experienced same issue in the same way - hibernation starts, system
freezes with screen off and powerLED on (instead of shutting down by
itself), after forced shutdown hibernation resumes as if it all went
fine.

Using the swap file or swap partition did not seem to affect the
behaviour.

Both completed hibernation cycle without issue using kernel 4.14.

[Bug 1778331] [NEW] HSP bluetooth profile does not work. Only A2DP works

2018-06-23 Thread Owais Lone
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to use Applie Airpods and a Sennheiser bluetooth headsets
with Ubuntu (and Kubuntu) 18.04. They connect and work find in A2DP mode
but are unable to connect in HSP mode rendering them useless for work as
the mic only works in HSP mode.

I can see HSP mode in the dropdown in sound settings and can switch to
it but the headset actually remains connected in A2DP mode. If I close
the sound settings window and re-open it, I can see the setting reverted
to A2DP.

I also tried pactl CLI util but it results in an error when switching to
HSP

```
pactl set-card-profile 2 headset_head_unit
Failure: Input/Output error
[Bug 1768625] Re: Bluetooth headset HSP/HFP mode not working in Bionic
2018-06-23 Thread Owais Lone
I'm facing the same issue with Ubuntu 18.04 and Kubuntu 18.04. I also
tried a live CD which had the same problem.
I tried Apple Airpods and a Sennheiser headset and had the same issue
with both. For me personally, this is the biggest issue I have with
Ubuntu 18.04 right now as it doesn't let me use a wireless headset for
meetings so it affects my work.
[Bug 1774950] Re: Suspend fails in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 17.10 (and on Kubuntu 18.04 using kernel 4.14.47)
2018-06-23 Thread pHeLiOn
@userunknown - I'd try using 'less /var/log/kern.log' after you've
logged in to see if there are any clues to why there's such a long wait
before the login screen.
I haven't experienced any random and total system freezes with the two
Bay Trail CPU machines I've been testing and using, but can understand
if you have that you'd not be keen to try without the 'cstate'
parameter.
As far as I can tell, there's not been much activity on the bug report
that you linked to since April. The most recent posts are someone
sending information about a non-Bay Trail processor (and it being
discussed that it's a different bug that's affecting them), someone not
getting the microcode update automatically in Manjaro and then a link or
two to microcode updates.
I'd be tempted to think that if you have the latest microcode updates
(if 'dmesg | grep micro' says you've got revision 836) then it could be
worth trying without the 'cstate fix' to see if it's still needed.
(preferably not testing it when doing important work! ;) )
I don't know if the graphical issues are somehow linked to the 'cstate'
usage, but it'd be good to rule it out.
I've not had any graphical issues (using Ubuntu & KDE Plasma) or pre-
login delays yet and assume @cmeerw would have mentioned it if it had
occurred too.
Is anyone else experiencing graphic flickering issues or long delays
before the login screen when using the 4.15 kernel with the patch
applied?
...some time ago I installed openbox and gnome in addition to unity. The
reason was a kind of instability with the latter one. Could it be that
this could possibly lead to the problemsof today ? Should I delete the
mentioned gui packages ?
[Bug 1778256] Re: [Pull request] Move apt-btrfs-snapshot to daily systemd timers, drop python2 and other changes
2018-06-23 Thread Mikhail N
** Description changed:
+ Hello,
+ I have created a fork of apt-btrfs-snapshot for my own usage and want to
propose these changes for upstream.
  The code is here: https://gitlab.com/mikhailnov/apt-btrfs-snapshot
  Please have a look at it. Unfortunately, I have not understood how to
  send a pull request at Launchpad.
  Changes compared to the upstream version 3.5.1:
  * Systemd daily timer instead of weekly cron to clean old snapshots
  * Do not run the timer when on battery (with no AC power)
  * Force btrfs sync after snapshot deletions
  * Introduce etc/apt-btrfs-snapshot.conf.d/ directory for config files which
are loaded in alpha-numerical order
- * /etc/apt-btrfs-snapshot.conf.d/10-default.conf is the default config, but
other packages may put other configs into the config directory (for example, I
want to override MaxAge on a group of machines and package my own config file
/etc/apt-btrfs-snapshot.conf.d/20-my.conf); I will probably add such config to
[system-autoupdate](https://gitlab.com/mikhailnov/system-autoupdate)
- * Default MageAge to 15 days (2 weeks + 1 day) instead of 90 days to reduce
problems with no empty space left on disk
+ * /etc/apt-btrfs-snapshot.conf.d/10-default.conf is the default config, but
other packages may put other configs into the config directory (for example, I
want to override MaxAge on a group of machines and package my own config file
/etc/apt-btrfs-snapshot.conf.d/20-my.conf); I will probably add such config to
+ * Default MaxAge to 15 days (2 weeks + 1 day) instead of 90 days to reduce
problems with no empty space left on disk
  * Drop support for building with python2
[Bug 1778338] [NEW] Failed install 18.04 64bit form usb made bootable by 18.04 32bit
2018-06-23 Thread Øyvind Mjøs
Public bug reported:
Under installation I got a message saying that the system could not boot
because grub-installer failed. I have a 32bit 18.04 version, but want a
64bit version installed aside the first one. I made the usb pen bootable
in the 32bit system. It booted ok, and I chose to install aside with the
32bit system. I also slided the two partitions, to make the one smaller
and hopefully get the bigger size for the 64bit system.
[Bug 1778222] Re: Ubuntu LIVECD kernel panic
2018-06-23 Thread k4lmcisme
When this problem occurs you cannot get to the terminal or anything
else. everything is locked up. You have to power the machine down. If
anything is logged I don't know how to get to it with the system locked
up.
It will boot with 'noacpi' option. But under that condition no errors
are apparent.
[Bug 1777437] Re: telegram fails to start: libQt5Network.so.5 missing
2018-06-23 Thread Torsten Franz
Telegram is running in my system also.
You have some libraries which will not find:
libqt5network5 - Qt 5 network module
libqt5widgets5 - Qt 5 widgets module
libqt5gui5 - Qt 5 GUI module
libqt5dbus5 - Qt-5-Modul für das D-Bus-Protokoll
libqt5core5a - Qt 5 core module
Maybe you have deinstall this libs or something like that. When you
install them I think it must be running with the normal package.
Best regards,
Torsten
[Bug 1725362] Re: Network icon shows question mark after connected to wifi, not wifi radio strength icon
2018-06-23 Thread Raúl Vidal
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1722256 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1722256
I am on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
This happens to me from time to time. If I reset the router the question mark
disappears.
Check that the DHCP table has no conflicts. Or that your router is not hung.
[Bug 1778344] [NEW] Shotwell exports images with DPI of 1 according to windows
2018-06-23 Thread Bryce Willey
Public bug reported:
When sending images edited with Shotwell to Window's users, the
properties of the image show a vertical and horizontal resolution of 1
PPI. I'm assuming that this is a metadata mislabel and that the image
an image, only the number of pixels.
[Bug 1770173] Re: 18.04 install stuck on grub install
2018-06-23 Thread Mike Tallroth
Problem solved. There was a USB stick plugged directly in to the
motherboard which I had forgotten about since changing this box over
from a freeNAS install. Once that was removed, the install completed
with no hangup.
I'll include the output from the point where it was hung. Both from ps,
and from the full os-prober output in syslog. At this point, I'm happy
to close the issue, but if you would like any further testing on this
setup, I'd be willing to support that. I'm not sure if you would expect
a USB drive to hang up the install or not.
The USB stick was the boot drive for freeNAS, so the primary partition
was formatted as ZFS.
[Bug 1778344] Re: Shotwell exports images with DPI of 1 according to windows
Exif.Image.XResolution   SLong   1  300
Exif.Image.YResolution   SLong   1  300
The issue is that the datatype of XResolution/YResolution is SLong, not
Rational.
But Shotwell does not touch those values. Can you check the datatype on
the original image with exiv2 -pa | grep Resolution
[Bug 1777679] Re: ELAN1200 touchpad not working at all with kernel 4.15+; Recognized as ITE 8910 keyboard
2018-06-23 Thread Gaston Castro
I also have an AsusGL503VD with an ELAN touchpad listed by xinput as:
ELAN1200:00 04F3:3090 Touchpad
I installed the kernel 4.17.2 by .deb packages availables on ppa ubuntu
kernel mainline (kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/).
The touchpad is detected but cursor freezes and jumps around randomly.
i2c-hid is listed on lsmod and I have tried with the xorg synaptics
touchpad driver (xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package) but the weird
behavior remains. Also tried with i8042 and acpi related kernel commands
on the grub config.
Are you getting completely clean operation? can you provide new
diagnostics files, like your lsmod output?
[Bug 1777650] Re: gparted failes to start
2018-06-23 Thread Curtis Gedak
It appears that the command fixed the issue with lib*g*tkmm.  Next it
hits an issue with lib*a*tkmm, so the next thing to try is to reinstall
that package.  You might need to do this with several packages as the
library of installed packages on your computer appears to be out-of-sync
with the actual packages installed.
Try:
  sudo apt install --reinstall libatkmm-1.6-1v5
and then try to run gparted again.
[Bug 1778344] Re: Shotwell exports images with DPI of 1 according to windows
2018-06-23 Thread Bryce Willey
The original CR2 image from the camera is:
Exif.Image.XResolution   Rational1  72
Exif.Image.YResolution   Rational1  72
Exif.Image.ResolutionUnitShort   1  inch
But I use Darktable to process the raw image, and it's output is:
Error: XMP Toolkit error 203: Duplicate property or field node
Warning: Failed to decode XMP metadata.
Exif.Image.XResolution   SLong   1  300
Exif.Image.YResolution   SLong   1  300
Exif.Image.ResolutionUnitShort   1  inch
So it must be a problem with Darktable. Thanks for the help, I'll close
this.
[Bug 1769440] Re: freeipa server install fails - named-pkcs11 fails to run
2018-06-23 Thread Harry Coin
This is a recipe with all the work-arounds needed to get a freeipa
server with integrated DNS going on Ubuntu bionic/18.04 LTS or later.
Without these workarounds, you will hit so many bugs the system is
uninstallable as of 6/23/18.
I chose Lubuntu as a platform as I wanted an integrated browser as a way
to check for good operations without the complexity of most of the
networking stack in the chain.
I started with a ‘clean install’ of Lubuntu 18.04.  I needed 4 CPU cores
and 4GB of memory to avoid most of the race conditions that kill the
installer.  You can reduce these to 1 core and 2GB after installation
(that’s a ‘low demand minimum’).
Where you see 192.168.50.64 below, replace that with the IP address of your
freeipa machine.
Where you see ri.mamabosso.com below, replace that with the private IP address
range of the sub-domain you’ll use for the freeipa server.  (If your public
domain is xyz.com, it’s best practice to add a subdomain for the private
addresses, so local.xyz.com to resolve them.  Split-view and the like generate
more problems than they solve).
You should see no error messages at any point in this process.  If you
do, stop to puzzle them out before moving on.
Get to a command prompt as root:
apt update
apt upgrade
apt install freeipa-server-dns python-psutil haveged
Cause /etc/hosts to look like:
127.0.0.1   localhost
192.168.50.64   directory1.ri.mamabosso.com directory1
127.0.1.1   directory1.ri.mamabosso.com directory1
# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
Cause /etc/hostname to look like:
directory1.ri.mamabosso.com
Remove anything in /etc/netplan unless your sure otherwise.  In /etc/netplan
add file:
/etc/netplan/01-networkd.yaml  with the below (change addresses and domains to
yours):
network:
  version: 2
  renderer: networkd
  ethernets:
ens3:
  addresses:
- 192.168.50.64/24
  gateway4: 192.168.50.1
  nameservers:
  search: [ri.mamabosso.com, mamabosso.com]
  addresses: [127.0.0.1]
These commands are needed to avoid several bugs later on:
systemctl disable systemd-resolved
systemctl disable network-manager
systemctl disable NetworkManager
mv /lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service NetworkManager.service.res
usermod bind -aG softhsm
mkdir /var/lib/softhsm/tokens
chown root:softhsm /var/lib/softhsm/tokens
chmod 0770 /var/lib/softhsm/tokens
chmod g+s /var/lib/softhsm/tokens
mv /usr/sbin/named-pkcs11 /usr/sbin/named-pkcs11-dpkg-dist
cp /usr/sbin/named /usr/sbin/named-pkcs11
#The dependency on named-pkcs11 is a fedora legacy and is no longer necessary
#which is fortunate as named-pkcs11 crashes on startup leaving the system with
#no resolver.
Make  /etc/resolv.conf:
nameserver 127.0.0.1
search
patch freeipa’s installer to avoid race conditions that otherwise would
crash it:
Note:  you should exactly match the indenting you find in the programs
to be edited below, using spaces and not tabs.
in /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/ipaserver/install/cainstance.py after
import tempfile
add
import psutil
In function "migrate_profiles_to_ldap"
before:
for profile_id in profile_ids:
change
 time.sleep(80)
to
time.sleep(30)
then just after,
for profile_id in profile_ids:
add
while psutil.cpu_percent() > 9: time.sleep(2)
And, in /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/ipaserver/install/bindinstance.py, add
after line 753 which should read ‘self.restart()’ in procedure __start:
while psutil.cpu_percent() > 9: time.sleep(2)
in the same file, at the top right after import time, add:
import psutil
this will make sure all the services restarted prior can satisfy the coming
requests without timing out as the service startup hasn’t settled.
Reboot to see if all is well.
Make sure /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname is correct.  Do an “apt update” to make
sure the internet is up.
Then give the command:
ipa-server-install --setup-dns --no-forwarders
accept defaults, enter passwords, answer ‘yes’ at the end of the
questions to accept.
Accept all defaults (except answer ‘yes’ to ‘continue..’).  You should see the
correct domain and reverse ip in the list.
You should see no errors or complaints during the entire process.  After
waiting for that to complete, do:
chgrp ipaapi /var/lib/krb5kdc  #so freeipa admin log in can find key.
chmod g+rx /var/lib/krb5kdc
So that you can log in to the web interface (without access to that, the
login fails for no obvious reason).
Reboot (mostly to make sure all is well upon reboots)
Log in via the web gui (https://system.domain.com etc..) , look around
for normal operations.  Surf to a website to make sure dns is up.
This recipe worked perfectly as of 6/23/18.
Some day soon (I hope), the needless dependency on buggy named-pkcs11 which
crashes named ans so integrated DNS with it (see
https://pagure.io/bind-dyndb-ldap/c/4fb51bac7f4f7
[Bug 1627371] Re: Timing problems with FreeIPA installation
2018-06-23 Thread Harry Coin
At
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/freeipa/+bug/1769440/comments/34
You will find a recipe to work around all bugs stopping the installation
of freeipa with integrated DNS on 18.04/bionic as of this date.
Hopefully folks who like to fix things can work these into the install
scripts and programs.
At the heart of the timing problems (there are many others) is the
install script's habit of (re) starting a service then nearly
immediately placing calls to it (which fail as the service isn't up
yet).   4 cores and 4GB of memory was enough to avoid all but two of the
problems.  The above note includes four lines of code in two files that
inject waits until the system load is under 9% before processing further
after starting a service.
Re: [Bug 1777338] Re: Linux 4.15.0-23 crashes during the boot process with a "Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference" message
2018-06-23 Thread Adam Novak
I updated my BIOS and tested the -24 kernel, as was recommended. It
definitely doesn't work any better. It still has the null dereference
problem, and then it prints a bunch of smp_call_function_too_many errors,
apparently forever.
[Bug 1774950] Re: Suspend fails in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 17.10 (and on Kubuntu 18.04 using kernel 4.14.47)
2018-06-23 Thread James Sams
I'm running an Thinkpad X1 carbon (so no nvidia anything running), but I
am experiencing this same behavior. Also, it seems like this is the kind
of thing that should go in to the release notes. It cripples laptop
users and in my case has caused data loss.
