[Bug 728273] [NEW] Nautilus trash can't open OpenOffice files

2011-03-03 Thread iox
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In Ubuntu 10.10, Nautilus trash works well while opening TXT or PDF
documents, but when you try to open an ODT file with OpenOffice, it is
opened with the file archiver instead of OpenOffice. Using "right click
> Open with" doesn't help either.

[Bug 661885] Re: After booting all sound is loud until the volume slider is slightly moved then sound works like normal until rebooting

2011-03-03 Thread David Henningsson
Ok, thanks for testing.

The pulseaudio alsa-plugin mixer was disabled because it didn't add much value
as it was adding confusion. You can see its current value with this terminal
command: "pactl list" - scroll down to the "Sink" section.
In both Fedora and Ubuntu, moving the PulseAudio volume should move sliders for
the actual card you have selected (HDMI or Headset).

hi bryce,

no more luck without an xorg.conf, why would it? there's not much in my
config, except the driver.

for classic desktop, i am running it already – desktop effects take too
much time and resources. i can try if desktop with effects works with
nvidia-173 driver, but i'm pretty sure it will (was nvidia-173 updated
for the new xserver already?)

think i will call att today/tomorrow on this issue. With any luck i

[Bug 206316] Re: Soft lockup in native_safe_halt on CPU#0

2011-03-03 Thread Roman Littlestork
What startted out as a soft lockup has long ago turned into a complete
freeze! The soft lockup part is experienced in reboot messages displayed
in the onscreen process being executed, they state BUG SOFT LOCKUP 61
secs; however, while I am using the system, I am experiencing the
complete freeze of the entire system. I ultimately have to execute a
cold-kill with the on/off switch on the machine and follow that with an
F10 & selecting BOOT from HARD-DRIVE, then in the next screen, I will
select recovery mode followed by selecting from the menu-> Repair
Packages. This will recover the system from the freeze, however if I was
using the synoptic package installer, I then have to open a terminal,
enter: "sudo dpkg --configure -a" to recover functionality of the
synoptic package installer. This "freeze" can occur with only one
workspace open and no Internet Browsers open or I can have 2-4
workspaces open with multiple downloads going and browsing the internet
with anywhere from 8-12 tabs open and 2 browsers online on the same
time. It also happens when downloading updates, installing updates, or
not until it is doing a cleanup after updaqting. BTW, the version is
likely not the issue as I have been running Ubuntu 10.10 Studio edition
for nearly 2 monthe using Kernal Linux 2.6.35-27 running GNOME 2.32-0.
YES, this IS Release 10.10 (maverick) and it is currently completely up
to date. S, what would you have me do? I am willing to run whatever
diagnostics you may need and am willing to give a complete report of all
system diagnostics your team may require. just send me info on the
command line diologues I need to enter and I will fullfill oyur every
wish as this is the most completely updated system I see in the reports
of this nature. ShaDDoWWalkeR

[Bug 728282] [NEW] The R specific toolbar, console, side pane are always visible

2011-03-03 Thread Renaud
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit-r-plugin

When opening a file that has nothing to do with R (txt, tex, etc...) the
toolbar, side pane and R console are always shown, whereas they are of no use.
For example the latex plugin only shows its stuff up when the file is a
tex-related file.
The interface is unnecessarily cluttered with useless buttons when opening
other text files.

Plus the option not to start the R console at Gedit startup does not
work. It is checked after every gedit startup, which makes it useless.

Thank you.

[Bug 712550] Re: QtAssistant is missing from python-qt4

2011-03-03 Thread Matteo Bertini
No idea, but I found QtAssistant was missing installing a python package with
pip in virtualenv.
A lot of python developers are using virtualenv isolate the environment and to
install different versions from the system ones.

Given the fact that PyQt is a binary package with a long compilation
time I think is better to include a full package, or, at least, fix the
documentation and, if there are some license/whatever problems with
QtAssistant, better explain that this module is missing (and why).

[Bug 670028] Re: cplay stops playing when !shell is used

2011-03-03 Thread Tomi Pieviläinen
There shouldn't be a version that stops playing when shell is used. The
version 1.49 does have a bug that crashes the cplay when !shell is used,
but this is fixed now. Note that if you have a long running external
command, then cplay won't progress to the next track if it's still
waiting for the shell to finish.

Assuming this report is about the crash using shell. If the long running
command is the problem for you, please reopen. But note that the shell
isn't meant for such use and it will be given quite a low priority.

[Bug 727419] Re: 'Blurring' of text in Gnome terminal

2011-03-03 Thread Brendan Donegan
I'm sure you're correct about that. I reported it against gnome-terminal
because I thought the logs from 'ubuntu-bug might
have directly relevant information.

Unfortunately I only saw this behavior on an upgraded system (Maverick >
Natty) and the said system has since been wiped (I was using it for ISO
testing). If you give me some time I can reinstall Maverick and then
upgrade again and try and get it reproduced in terminator.

Alternatively, perhaps if Gary M (above) still has his setup, he might
be able to try your suggestion. Otherwise, I will get back to you ASAP.

2011-03-03 Thread Josy

Tried I think everything suggested on the next forum

If it isn't possible for natty (which I can understand regarding the

in the gnome3-ppa? It currently has 2.91.3 which is very old and it is
missing glade completely.

Thanks!

[Bug 499237] Re: Doesn't detect usb flash drive as SSD

2011-03-03 Thread ggonlp
This problem continues to exists also with the latest 64bit 2.6.35-27. I
am booting ubuntu 10.10 from an SD card which the kernel also
incorrectly identifies as a rotational device. After resetting it to 0
and just like Orson not getting the desired result, I tried to cheat my
way through by running ureadahead in parallel to the boot process.
Normally ureadahead.conf will block mountall (and hence pretty much
everything else), but if you modify it like that:

exec /sbin/ureadahead --daemon &

it will run ureadahead in parallel (or at least bootchart says so) - but
the result is worse than without ureadahead at all.

[Bug 708493] Re: cannot login anymore: Read from socket failed: Connection reset by peer

2011-03-03 Thread Oren Held
Serge: I am really not sure this is related to ecdsa bug. Last time I
checked (about a week ago) the bug still existed even in upstream. See
the "connection reset by peer" discussions in mailing list:
http://lists.mindrot.org/pipermail/openssh-unix-

In comment #14 I though it's related and immediately corrected myself.

[Bug 728310] [NEW] Microphone mute not supported

2011-03-03 Thread Daniël van Eeden
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

For audio output muting there is
/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/keybindings/volume_mute, but there is no
input (microphone) mute shortcut gnome-keybinding-properties.

On a Lenovo Thinkpad T410s this is the ACPI event for the microphone mute
button.
$ acpi_listen
ibm/hotkey HKEY 0080 101b

This is on Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick)

1. Please allow a shortcut for microphone mute
2. Bind the ACPI event to that shortcut

something like XF86InputMute

[Bug 671027] Re: Add Efika MX Smartbook/Smarttop support

2011-03-03 Thread Matt Sealey
Additional comment: Loic, PLEASE can we put back "efikamx" subarch
support? It would be a legacy hack but it will mean our current kernels
work. I don't want to have to build a vendor-specific package and track
it for the sake of 2 lines. Neither Maverick nor Natty has or will have
an "mx51" subarch kernel so the fix has basically caused a nightmare AND
a breakage, for the sake of "doing it right" not "keeping what works,
working".

Can we revert the change please...

[Bug 727979] Re: Screen flicker approx. every 30 seconds

2011-03-03 Thread Lucas Reece
Bryce,

Thanks for the rapid response.

No, the system is about 4 years old now. I've installed many distro's on
it in the past (#buntu's, openSUSE, Mandriva, PCLinuxOS, Fedora, Mint,
Debian etc. etc.) and have never had this screen flicker before. It's
the first time have tried Natty.

Hope that helps.

[Bug 728310] Re: Microphone mute not supported

2011-03-03 Thread Daniël van Eeden
I've used this as work-around
Added a new keyboard shortcut which executes this:
/usr/bin/pacmd "set-source-mute alsa_input.pci-_00_1b.0.analog-stereo 1"

This is binded to 0xf8 (which is the mute key).

The only issue is that this doesn't toggle mute, so it only mutes and
never unmutes.

[Bug 728322] [NEW] Random plasma crashes

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plasma-desktop

While using standard use of my plasma desktop, the desktop crashed causing my

[Bug 728327] [NEW] Ambience and radiance themes cause Firefox browser notifications to be unreadable

2011-03-03 Thread James Womack
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: light-themes

The Ambience and Radiance themes included in lucid cause the drop-down
notification bars in Firefox 3.6 to be unreadable. The background and
text on these notification bars become black. On other themes, like Dust
and Clearlooks, the notifications are readable, with a light background
and dark text. This is reproducible across 2 different installations of
lucid on different systems. The effect is to make the Ambiance and
Radiance themes unusable for me, since I rely upon these notifications
in Firefox.

[Bug 728328] [NEW] nagios plugins depend on samba

2011-03-03 Thread rew
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: nagios-plugins

I have an internet server. I like to keep as little as possible
installed. A package as "SAMBA' I simply do NOT want installed on my
server. It has no place there.

Now to get nagios to check my disk-free-status, I installed "nagios-
plugins". This depends on "samba-common" and samba-common-bin. It
stopped short of starting the samba server.

So, to monitor samba stuff, I imagine that having the samba tools
installed is required. But for my use this is not neccesary at all. This
sort of "attitude" causes software bloat. We/ubuntu should be careful in
what dependencies to mark as required.

Either split the nagios-plugins package into a nagios-plugins-samba, or
remove the dependency. In the latter case, you can make things "neat" by
editing the script that requires samba to print a nice: "you need to
install samba" if it isn't found.

And YES it is a security issue to have unneccesary software installed on
an internet server.

I did an i386 install (alpha-3 candidates) on my Dell Mini 10 from usb-
creator generated USB stick, with English, no network, and "use entire
disk". Worked fine, and no "Media" in syslog.

[Bug 705949] Re: (Needs Q4 -intel) [Arrandale] Gateway NV79 Backlight and Monitor trouble

2011-03-03 Thread Daudi Amani
This NV79 issue has also been referenced here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/685727
among many other places.
Only the backlight is being turned off during boot and also after resuming from
a suspend. Using a bright flashlight shows that the video is still being
displayed but without the backlight, it appears to be black. Lucid worked fine
on the same hardware and there was no backlight being turned off issue.

Maverick 2.6.35-27, 2.6.35-25, 2.6.35-24 all have this issue. 2.6.32-27
Lucid works fine.

[Bug 728330] [NEW] Problemas con dni electrónico

2011-03-03 Thread Gustavo Mariscal Guinea
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

que no he hecho algo bien?
Muchas gracias por adelantado
