Ok, thanks for testing. The pulseaudio alsa-plugin mixer was disabled because it didn't add much value as it was adding confusion. You can see its current value with this terminal command: "pactl list" - scroll down to the "Sink" section. In both Fedora and Ubuntu, moving the PulseAudio volume should move sliders for the actual card you have selected (HDMI or Headset).
