[Bug 524822] Re: mythtv Hauppauge HVR-1600 Problem with capture cards
I just upgraded a system from hardy->lucid and tested a PVR500 without any problems w/ that new mythtv build personally. @jerkface: So, I am suspecting there is something else broken here with your config other than the not properly setting groups for mythbackend. Can you please show the output of the following: # groups mythtv # ps aux | grep ^mythtv # cat /etc/default/mythtv-backend # cat /etc/init/mythtv-backend.conf Also please attach your backend log. @Thomas Templin: Can you please verify with the new build that things are fine for you too? ** Changed in: mythtv (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- mythtv Hauppauge HVR-1600 Problem with capture cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524822 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 516909] Re: [Clarkdale] entire desktop environment locks up in 9.10, i3-530 proc, built-in graphics
Vikram, This problem definitely exists in Lucid Lynx 10.04 Alpha2, desktop amd64 bit version, that I downloaded and tested on 2/9/10. C:\Users\\Downloads>c:\md5sum lucid-desktop-amd64.iso 64c577165a31e761a261a2d5efa53ff8 *lucid-desktop-amd64.iso 64c577165a31e761a261a2d5efa53ff8 *lucid-desktop-amd64.iso from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid/alpha-2/MD5SUMS They have file dates of 1/13/10-1/14/10. Is there some newer version, or has something changed since 2/9/10 ?? My understanding is that the newer kernel 2.6.33 had fixed the issue, and since Lynx is shipping w/ 2.6.32 --- the problem could possibly be there (and appears to be confirmed w/ my empirical testing) Thanks Keith -- [Clarkdale] entire desktop environment locks up in 9.10, i3-530 proc, built-in graphics https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/516909 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 484195] Re: CRITICAL! Karmic: Recovery mode broken, probably due to FAT fsck problems
I've also been being affected by this bug. I'm running Ubuntu Studio 9.10 on x64, and I have my disk partitioned in a very similar fashion, one NTFS partition for Windows 7, one FAT32 partition for shared data, one ext3 partition for Ubuntu and finally one small Linux Swap partition that I doubt has ever actually been used. Though the keyboard seems mostly useless, the "Magic SysRq" commands work, and one can use one can use ALT+SysRq+R to take control of the keyboard then ALT+SysRq+E to terminate most processes and bring yourself back to a limited console login screen. I'm not sure exactly what functionality is missing due to most processes being terminated like that, but you can then use "sudo reboot" and type your password to reboot safely. Perhaps a true guru could take advantage of this console to recover their system, but for everyone else, the recovery console is completely broken. -- CRITICAL! [Bug 417757] Re: [karmic regression] all network apps / browsers suffer from multi-second delays by default due to IPv6 DNS lookups
@Laurent yes. /ALL/ network access regardless of application is affected. Please re-read the report I wrote. Yes, this has nothing to do with the IPv6 DNS lookup problem. IPV6 record lookup was one issue that would cause the slow connections so many people are experiencing. My point is that while the IPv6 lookup issue has been resolved, it is not the only cause of the slow dns lookup/connection symptoms people are experiencing. As I have said, IPV6 is /disabled/ on my machine via grub. IPV6 is disabled in firefox. IPV6 IS NOT THE SOLE REASON FOR SLOW DNS AND NETWORK CONNECTION IN UBUNTU. i have verified this here. Maybe it should be listed as a separate bug, but none of the other bugs I have found (of which there are many) seem to match the symptoms I'm seeing here exactly. Slow dns lookups. DNS lookup failure 30% of the time or so. Connection failure 30% of the time or so. Extremely slow net connectivity over a wired connections. I've tried every combination of work around I could find on the net to no avail. Then I upgraded the firmware on my DI-707 router and suddenly the problem disappears. The confusing thing is that Ubuntu 8.04, WinXp and EVERY SINGLE DISTRIBUTION BEFORE had no issue with this router. It seems to be restricted to recent 2.6 kernels. I had read somewhere, I'm sorry I have forgotten where, that there was some TCP/IP standards issue that someone had decided to implement too strictly in recent kernels which caused connections through many legacy routers/switches/firewalls to fail (which is why I tried the firmware upgrade). At this point, for me, the problem seems to be solved, but I have the feeling that there are many Ubuntu users out there that are still suffering from slow/failing dns lookups and the IPV6 issue does not explain all of them. There is still some network level problem. But like I said, the firmware upgrade on my DI-707 seems to have worked around whatever problem Ubuntu has. I'm reporting this in an attempt to be helpful; too often in my own software business customers who are running into trouble with our software simply don't report their experiences so we have no idea that there's a problem. -- [karmic regression] all network apps / browsers suffer from multi-second delays by default due to IPv6 DNS lookups https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/417757 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 525644] [NEW] Grub2 does not distinguish kernels on second ubuntu installation
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub2 I've got a Karmic installation which I migrated to grub2. On a second partition, I follow the current development release (lucid). Boot configuration is managed by update-grub running under karmic. My problem is that update-grub does not visually distinguish the different kernels present on my lucid installation. [Bug 524135] Re: system hangs on reboots after upgrading lucid alpha 2 hal packages
I went through one more install/upgrade cycle and found that a) there appears to be no significant configuration changes in /etc that would be likely to cause this problem, and b) reformatting /var doesn't appear to be necessary during a reinstall to clear up the Waiting for /var hang. That seems to indicate that the problem is in one of the 570+ packages that get upgraded with an apt-get dist-upgrade applied to alpha2. Since the only visible major changes between the working pre-update boot sequence and the broken post-update changes are the uvcvideo error (unlikely) and the missing fsck startup, the problem seems likely to be either with fsck or the process which invokes it during init fs mounting. I'm not sure how to figure out how upstart is starting up file system mounting. The only reference to fsck that I've seen is in /etc/init/mountall.conf. At first glance it would seem mountall shouldn't be trying to run fsck before mounting file systems since mountall has a parameter to force that action, but maybe that's for forcing a full check and it's calling fsck to increment a mount count by default. That would seem to make mountall and e2fsck the most likely suspected culprits for my woes. So I'll try to see if I can grab a copy of the Alpha2 versions of those packages and try to roll back to them after the dist-upgrade. I'm just wondering if I need to rebuild them after the new kernel and headers are installed by dist-upgrade but before rebooting. If anybody knowledgeable would be willing to give me some pointers, or even encouragement that I'm looking in the right direction if that's finally the case, I'd really appreciate it. -- system hangs on reboots after upgrading lucid alpha 2 hal packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524135 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 458444] Re: dvb-usb-af9015 should be updated to the latest version to resolve some issues
just an update for all and sundry. I did a clean install of karmic and plugged in my leadtek gold usb tuner purchased ~3 weeks ago It loads 4.65 firmware and works out of the box but has the polling issue with the remote. I then removed and plugged into a windows pc and installed the 4.95 firmware on my karmic install. I plugged it into karmic and it loaded the 4.95 firmware. It would lock on channels but would take up to 2 minutes to lock. The polling issue was not present. So If you want a cheap tuner in Aus these are great for a mythtv backend where the remote isnt required. All you need do is this: echo "options dvb-usb-af9015 remote=-1" > /etc/modprobe.d/no-af9015-remote.conf which will disable the polling and you have a cheap dvb tuner that works great. -- dvb-usb-af9015 should be updated to the latest version to resolve some issues https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/458444 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 525409] Re: libbuffy ftbfs in lucid
Thanks for the patch, which does indeed fix the build failure, but I'm unsure of the benefit of the remainder of the changes, specifically: 1) Why bump the compat level? What feature does this bring? Why is it required? 2) Why drop the entries in debian/install? How does this help the package? Re: [Bug 463684] Re: openldap sections in ubuntu server guide not updated for packages in karmic
Yes, the current situation sucks. Unfortunately, it cannot all be laid at the feet of Ubuntu. Like you, I spent a good week in a maze of twisty passages where nothing worked. Then, painfully, I emerged from that mess over a few weeks to get a working system. The core issue is that LDAP has moved on while most of the available documentation has not. Almost all the search accessible documentation is based on the venerable 'slapd.conf' but OpenLDAP has moved to an embedded Db. So, like an anthropologist, one has to sift through the docs and try to figure out what is still relevant and what no longer works. It's a hard slog. The #openldap irc channels sometimes helps. Then, there's Ubuntu which silently transitioned from the older system to the newer one without really considering the consequences for the newbies like me who were getting their first dose of LDAP in the middle of the transition. Ubuntu doesn't have infinite resources and made the code transition without having the documenters who could at least put up the flags warning that 'here be monsters'. Fixing it though, requires a good documentation writer who will take on the task of writing a really decent chapter. In itself, that's a couple of weeks of work. Unfortunately, the cost of figuring things out takes so much time that there's none left to 'volunteer' to fix the docs. (And my Gnumeric manual is ever waiting for my spare documenter cycles.) So it never gets fixed---such goes life in the collaborosphere. So, good luck to you with your next distribution. You now also know that newer LDAPs are working differently from the way things used to work so you have a leg up when installing that. all the best, --adrian On Mon, 2010-02-22 at 01:36 +, murray wrote: > I am sick of this. > > I have spent the last 4 days upgrading, installing, uninstalling trying > really hard to get OpenLDAP to work on Ubuntu but I am just now giving > up. > > For those who care to listen there are some reasons: > > 1.
