[Bug 404778] [NEW] [Wishlist] Merge istanbul into gnome-screenshot or include it in gnome-utils

2009-07-26 Thread Danny Piccirillo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

There lacks a good desktop recording program that uses gstreamer for
screencasts and including this functionality in a screenshot application
seems apropriate.

[Bug 404493] Re: Calc "search & replace" work outside the selected columns

2009-07-26 Thread dino99
Similar to "columns search", if you select a specific group of cells ( i.e
b4:i25), search is applied on & then search outside, what is not supposed to.
Another problem: says you search "710" into a selected area, it also find this
number embedded into an other like "20090710", curious, this fonction has no
settings to set rules (i.e only this number, or all numbers containing this
one, ...)

This fonction is very dangerous (suppose you are not aware of those
problems & check "replace all" .

[Bug 404784] [NEW] authentification is required to mount the device just after login

2009-07-26 Thread dysmann
Public bug reported:

In Karmic, every time I open a new session (even if the user is not
sudo-enabled), I'm asked for my password to "automount" a partition.
 - I don't want to
 - This is a backup partition : I don't want it to be automounted
 - A normal user won't be able to mount it because root privilege is needed, so
it shouldn't be asking for

See the attachement, you can see the dialog asking for automounting my
partiion. Sorry, it's partially french.

 - I think automounting of root-privileges needing partitions should be
desactivated by default

 - Mounting root-privileges needing partitions for a normal user
shouldn't even ask for the password given the access is denied anyway.
Another idea would be giving the choice between all sudo-enabled users
in the dialog asking for password, and the good password could be given.
It would be nice for administrators when they are in a normal user
session.

Wanted to try that but unfortunately KK Alpha 3 does boot into black
screen on my computer (nvidia 6150 onboard graphics). "Safe gfx mode"
selected on startup didn't help. I can hear the login sound but then Num
Lock stops responding so I suspect it just halts or something.

[Bug 404434] Re: I can not disable touchpad through "gnome-mouse-properties"

2009-07-26 Thread Rogério Brito
Hi there.

I have *exactly* the opposite problem: I'm using the most up-to-date
karmic possible, I have a Dell Latitude D520 and I want to use the
touchpad with tapping, but I have not succeded with using "gnome-mouse-
properties" or with "gpointing-device-settings".

Changing the xorg.conf to have hard-coded settings does not work (it
just seems to be read according to the log, but things like, say, the
keyboard layout specified there and the dontzap option seem to be
ignored completely).

Anyway, the only workaround that I found was to use:

synclient TapButton1=1 TapButton2=2 TapButton3=3

due to upstream's decision of removing tapping if a touchpad has at
least one button (as is documented in the synaptics(4) manpage).

Thanks, Rogério Brito.

[Bug 368760] Re: NM takes too long to connect to wifi after login (jaunty regression)

2009-07-26 Thread PomCompot
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 321098 ***

I comment here because I experience the same problem at startup. From 0s
to 1min to connect on my two Dell laptops. Annoying, because I also
experienced some connection failures with my ISP and I'm always asking
myself if it's the DSL box which is disconnected or Network Manager
which is slow.

I post here because I don't think this bug is really a duplicate of
#321098. It's surely related but doesn't concerned in my case a problem
of suspend/resume.

Could we post other details on this subject ?

2009-07-26 Thread Robert Hooker
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 404219 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404219

Changing package to gnome-control-center. This is a problem because
gnome-control center is changing gconf settings in
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/mouse/ like the old gnome-settings-daemon
touchpad settings used, but g-s-d uses
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/ now. The result is g-s-d is loading
the default /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/ settings every boot,
after hal so you can't change it through a fdi even. The bug has been
fixed in g-c-c 2.27.4 which has the touchpad tab working with all of the
new settings.

I'll see if I can reproduce this issue. Do you remember which packages
you explicitly were installing, in contrast to those added as
dependencies? Any idea what questions you were asked during the
installation?

[Bug 404765] Re: headphone cannot be used

2009-07-26 Thread Duke.Augustine
Solved!
Solved!
I solve it!

I referenced the page:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting

   1. First, You can check whether your computer has been install
build-essential and module-assistant, whether your linux header is updated,
whether you has the alsa source.
  Code:

  $ sudo apt-get install \
  build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r) module-assistant alsa-source

   2. Use dpkg-reconfigure to reconfigure alsa-source
  Code:

  $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure alsa-source

   3. Now you have 2 ways to be access the success.
  * One is through module-assistant:
Code:

sudo module-assistant a-i alsa-source

  * The other is through manually compilation:
Code:

cd /usr/src
sudo tar xjvf alsa-driver.tar.bz2
cd module/alsa-driver
sudo ./configure --with-kernel=/usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname -r) \
--with-cards=ALC888 \
--with-oss=yes
sudo make
sudo make install

Quote:
Note: "ALC888" in "--with-cards" can be replaced what sound card
your computer has.
If you don't have got any error message, congratulations! Just reboot and
enjoy it!

What distribution? What package version? Need alot more info here...
Note that AOA-D150's do not have a multitouch capable touchpads, but you
can enable fake multitouch for it. The method to do so varies greatly
depending on your xserver-xorg-input-synaptics version though. SHMConfig
is outdated, and depending on your package version might not even work
anymore.

Well I did what Ais said and my problem seems to be good so far. After
a few hours my Xorg would approach 1.5GB, when i disable the effects it
would go down to 200MB. Now since trying Ais suggestion of reinstalling
from ATI website I am happy to say after a four hour uptime its @
227MB(started @ 64mb). I have thus far had Firefox with 32tabs open, xp
in a virtual machine, skype, opera and pidgin all open and closed. So
far so good. Its still kinda big but I can work alot better now. Will
keep you posted as my system stays on.

[Bug 404804] [NEW] Possible corruption on target ext4 FS during Karmic Alpha3 install

2009-07-26 Thread QPrime
Public bug reported:

Using Karmic i386 Alpha3 alternate install cd image. On three separate
installations (2 VM and 1 bare hardware) I have noticed that an
otherwise uneventful installation using default install options results
in a root partition fsck on first reboot, with corrections to the
filesystem reported by fsck. Subsequent reboots result in an apparently
fully functioning system. My only guess thus far is a possible
incomplete umount of the target, leaving it in a dirty state. Willing
to provide any install logs or additional info as requested.

[Bug 404806] [NEW] Thunderbird 2 still does not play wav files on incoming mail

2009-07-26 Thread Andy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

I have downloaded email incoming wav files from the net, I have stored
these in my personal folder and from there have installed these in
Thunderbird as the default for incoming notification of mail.

However, on trying the said sound all I hear is a static buzz, I've
Goggled this and found several sites where others have reported same
issue.

These sites are several Months old in the information discussed and so
of no value as to the rectification of the bug.

Has there been a download patch made available for solving this bug
issue or is there a Thunderbird update which does same?

It is annoying to be doing things with my machine and not hear any
incoming mail alerts, especially if these have to be replied to quickly.

I'm using Thunderbird on the latest Ubuntu 9.04 with all its updates
installed, I like the look etc. of Thunderbird but if this bug can't be
irradicated then I will revert back to Evolution.

[Bug 304313] Re: libxi-dev and x11proto-input-dev conflict with same files

2009-07-26 Thread Robert Hooker
This was fixed quite some time ago with the libxi 1.2.0 package.

libxi (2:1.2.0-1ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * Merge with Debian experimental, remaining changes:
- debian/control: libxi-dev Replaces x11proto-input-dev (<= 1.4.3-2)
- copy XInput.h from inputproto 1.5.0, libxi-dev includes it.
Upstream decided not to move it for 1.2.0, but we already had it so
  continue shipping it in libxi-dev.
- 100_install_xinput.h.diff: Modify the Makefile.am to install

[Bug 404805] [NEW] Scrolling with mouse doesn't work in VMWare

2009-07-26 Thread Alex Lourie
Public bug reported:

I'm using VMWare ESXi 4.0 Hypervisor to install Ubuntu Karmic Alpha 3.
Ubuntu installed without any problem.

In any application that has a scrollbar though, there's the following
bug present: If I scroll the wheel upwards, the scrollbar goes all the
way down, without ability to stop it in the middle. After that, upward
scrolling with the wheel doesn't work. Manual dragging of the scrollbar
works normally.

I suspect here a problem with mouse driver of VMWare or mouse settings
in X, as this affects *ALL* applications with scrollbar.

There's no report of anything related to this issue in system log.

** Description changed:

I'm using VMWare ESXi 4.0 Hypervisor to install Ubuntu Karmic Alpha 3.
  Ubuntu installed without any problem.

In any application that has a scrollbar though, there's the following
bug present: If I scroll the wheel upwards, the scrollbar goes all the
way down, without ability to stop it in the middle. After that, upward
scrolling with the wheel doesn't work. Manual dragging of the scrollbar
  works normally.

- I suspect here a problem with mouse driver of Virtual Box or mouse
- settings in X, as this affects *ALL* applications with scrollbar.
+ I suspect here a problem with mouse driver of VMWare or mouse settings
+ in X, as this affects *ALL* applications with scrollbar.

There's no report of anything related to this issue in system log.

  My system:

[Bug 214402] Re: Page cut after edition

2009-07-26 Thread ubeagle
Ubuntu 9.04, PDFEdit 0.4.1
Scanned two A4 pages in GIMP 2.6.6 via XSane (identical pixel size), changed
the colour mode to black&white (1 bit) and printed them in GIMP as two PDF
files (via Ubuntu standard PDF printer).
Opened the first PDF file in PDFEdit, appended the only page of the second PDF
document (via Tools > Insert pages from other document). In PDFEdit everything
looks ok (both pages have same height and same width).
Saved a copy of the edited PDF and opened it in Evince. For no reason the top
of the second page is cropped (approx. 2 cm).

[Bug 404592] Re: Please sync parrot (1.4.0-1) from Debian unstable

2009-07-26 Thread Simon Olofsson
If the Ubuntu changes are obsolete in a new version of a package, the package
from Debian can be copied without changes (all Ubuntu specific changelog
entries and Maintainer changes will be dropped too). So you don't need to
attach any diff at all.
You can read more about sync requests in the wiki:

[Bug 378248] Re: Video editing docs need work

2009-07-26 Thread Matthew East
Thanks for the patch Shane. A few comments / questions:

You need to rework this sentence a bit: "Most video editors also support
video capture here are some". I'd suggest: "Most video editors also
support video capture. Examples are:"

I don't know whether it is possible to distinguish more between the
feature set of the different applications, so the user knows which to
try first, but I'll leave that to someone who knows more about the
applications.

Lastly, do you know anything about whether Cinelerra is worth
recommending? It's not in the repositories but if it's good software,
then we could encourage someone in the development team to get it into
the repositories, and/or point to these instructions for the time being:
