[Bug 147100] kernel 2.6.22-12 no sound, no wireless

2007-09-30 Thread Alex Cornejo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-generic

I am running on pretty standard hardware (dell laptop) and after
upgrading from kernel 2.6.22-11 to 2.6.22-12 I have no sound and no
wireless. I don't know what is going on. The modules are not loaded at
all, I checked and I also have linux-restricted-

[Bug 134351] Re: Sigmatel STAC9200 No Sound/Audio Ubuntu (Gateway MT3423)

2007-09-30 Thread aggieml
I finally got my sound working after a month of searching various posts!

I have the NVidia MCP51 High Definition Audio with the Sigmatel STAC
9200 chip on it. It came with my Gateway MT3421 laptop.

I had given up on sound because everyone on forums had given up, but
there's a patch for fixing this sound card on the alsa-bugs site!

Just go here and look for the post with the patch and follow the instructions:
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?p=868053

A couple things:
1...you don't have to remove all alsa packages like he said in step 1. All I
did was remove alsa-lib and alsa-utils.
2...the patch file is at the bottom of the post as an attachment.

I hope this works for some of you!

Mike

[Bug 140713] Re: Gutsy Tribe 5 (KVM GUEST) needs -no-kvm to install

2007-09-30 Thread Anthony Liguori
Unfortunately there was a small bug in my previous patch. I should have
used a 16 bit mov instead of a 32 bit mov or else data would potentially
leak from ebx into esp. Turns out that in practice, the high bits of
ebx were zero so everything still worked.

To test out the patch, I took a gutsy-desktop CD (tribe 4 I believe),
mounted it via loopback (mount -oloop,ro gutsy-desktop-i386.iso /mnt).
I then copied (via cp -ra /mnt iso) to another working directory.

Applying this patch to the gfxboot source package (apt-get source
gfxboot), then doing a make install. Then rebuild the gfxboot-theme-
ubuntu package from source (apt-get source gfxboot-theme-ubuntu), and
copy the bootlogo into the staged iso (cp gfxboot-theme-
ubuntu-0.4.3/install/bootlogo iso/isolinux/bootlogo).

Finally, I built a new ISO with mkisofs (mkisofs -R -b
isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/boot.cat -J -no-emul-boot -boot-load-
size 4 -boot-info-table -o gutsy-remastered.iso iso).

[Bug 145827] Re: Gnome-appearance-properties freeze

2007-09-30 Thread figjam
The effect of my problem is that the application starts, but you cannot
do anything with it except close it.

You can go directly to some pages, with --show-page=effects for example,
but then it only presents you with something to click on and then blank
windows from there on. You cannot actually confirm the changes.

So here goes..

System:
Linux darkstar 2.6.22-12-generic #1 SMP Sun Sep 23 18:11:30 GMT 2007 i686
GNU/Linux
Gutsy, upgraded from Feisty.
KDE is installed as well, but only as a 'see what it looks like' option. Not
the main session.

Whenever I start the app I get the following output:

:~$ gnome-appearance-properties
/bin/sh: /usr/bin/esd: not found
QSettings: failed to open file '/etc/qt3/qt_plugins_3.3rc'

(gnome-appearance-properties:11455): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_map:
assertion `GTK_WIDGET_VISIBLE (widget)' failed

(gnome-appearance-properties:11455): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_map:

:~$ sudo apt-get install esd

-rw-r- 1 root root 642 2007-09-01 11:28 /etc/qt3/qt_plugins_3.3rc

I ran this manually:

gnome-appearance-properties --show-page=effects

The windows appeared, with the right tab selected. However I could not
click on anything but down arrow seemed to have selected something,
which brought up a blank window, to which I pressed Enter. It did change
the effects.

However, subsequent tries with the same command results in:

"Unable to start the settings manager 'gnome-settings-daemon'.
Without the GNOME settings manager running, some preferences may not take
effect. This could indicate a problem with Bonobo, or a non-GNOME (e.g. KDE)
settings manager may already be active and conflicting with the GNOME settings
manager."

Below is the output from the first session:

[Bug 147103] MSN nudges sent from unknown buddies can cause libpurple to crash

2007-09-30 Thread Andrés Rassol
Public bug reported:

A remote MSN user that is not on the buddy list can cause a denial of
service (crash) by sending a nudge message. The protocol plugin attempts
to look up the buddy's information and accesses an invalid memory
location if the user is not on the buddy list.

I also have the problem of noauto being ignored. It worked fine in
Dapper, but in Feisty, if the "user" option is used it ignores "noauto",
and if "user" is removed it doesn't automount but then doubleclicking on
the drives icon results in the message "You are not privileged to mount
the volume". I've searched the ubuntu forum, wiki and google. Here's
what I have found so far; I have turned up a few pages of interest but I
just haven't been able to find any solution.

This page describes how to force hal to ignore certain drives/partitions
at startup: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=2605508&postcount=34

Here is a detailed explanation of fstabs peculiar behaviour:

to do: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=283131

I don't have that search result either, even though the document you
mention is installed. Do you use beagle by any chance? I wonder if this
is something going wrong with the beagle search backend for yelp.

Moving to the yelp source package for now. Please do report any broken

[Bug 138575] Re: gtkpod takes several minutes to start

2007-09-30 Thread Aaron C. de Bruyn
Is this while your iPod is attached? I have a possibly similar issue.
If I attach my iPod and then open an app that interfaces with it (tried gtkpod,
amarok, and the gnome-volume-properties thing pops up a detected photo card)
everything locks solid. The only thing I can do is unplug my ipod--then
everything resumes.

I have tried several different ways. Plugging it in and opening apps, opening
apps and plugging it in, starting the box with it plugged in, etc...
The iPod mounts correctly under the /media directory and I can enumerate
through all the files--but when both the iPod is plugged in, and an iPod
'aware' app is running, the whole X system locks up.

[Bug 147111] digikam isn`t upgraded and therefore it doesn`t work after release upgrade

also got a new usb headset which doesnt plug into the onboard sound
ports obviously but i dont think that had any effect)

So, maybe the problem has to do with certain sound card drivers or

setkey -f /etc/ipsec.conf
/etc/init.d/racoon restart

The problem now occurs just after the line setkey -f /etc/ipsec.conf

I know that there is probably a lot of information missing, but now I
just don'nt know where to seek for it, event thought I would suspect a
problem in the kernel.

[Bug 147017] Re: [gutsy] trackerd vs. strigidaemon

2007-09-30 Thread Emilio Pozuelo Monfort
Could you tell us which tracker version do you have? If it is 0.6.2,
then it's a know issue, but it should be fixed (or at least improved a
lot) with tracker 0.6.3, which is already in the repositories.

So if you don't have tracker 0.6.3, update to it and let us know whether
responsiveness improves or not.

Also, you can disable the tracker daemon in System>Preferences>Sessions,
or change tracker's preferences in System>Preferences>Indexing.

work on aspects driven by the community, not just those sponsored by

[Bug 135370] Re: [gutsy tribe-5] installer stops at 'creating a filesystem' because of mount.ntfs

2007-09-30 Thread Szabolcs Szakacsits
Can anybody send an install log? I've never heard about situation where
mount.ntfs (ntfs-3g) would hang, only here. Mount either succeeds or it
fails and the mount command returns. The issue is clearly related to
mount.ntfs, it triggers something somewhere but only the log could tell
where the real problem is. Thanks.
