Is this while your iPod is attached? I have a possibly similar issue. If I attach my iPod and then open an app that interfaces with it (tried gtkpod, amarok, and the gnome-volume-properties thing pops up a detected photo card) everything locks solid. The only thing I can do is unplug my ipod--then everything resumes.
I have tried several different ways. Plugging it in and opening apps, opening apps and plugging it in, starting the box with it plugged in, etc...
