[SM-USERS] Request for plugin/info
Greetings, I have a request from one of my end-users for squirrelmail. It would require a combination of plugins, or a completely new one. This plugin would allow the user to import their address book, and it would auto-whitelist everyone in is within spamassassin. Has something like this been done? I found the addressbook import and the spamassassin-SQL plugins, but nothing that does both. If it has been done, can you please point me in the right direction, and if not, someone look into this? (I'm not versed enough with PHP, YET!, to do this) J --- SF.Net is sponsored by: Speed Start Your Linux Apps Now. Build and deploy apps & Web services for Linux with a free DVD software kit from IBM. Re: [SM-USERS] Request for some sort of preview pane
I followed the instructions on it too. I don't use bleeding edge on productions servers. I go with stable versions such as 1.4.2 and according to the readme file it 'should' work. Since It didn't I asked for help. Please don't assume that just because I didn't reference something that I had not looked. But it DOES change things. First and foremost is the Lotus Domino DOES NOT WORK properly with IMAP clients. Thunderbird doesn't use the same command sort or search mail. It does it locally. That means it grabs each and every email from the server, brings it to the machine then sorts it. Squirrelmail tries to use the 'standard IMAP protocol' functions that are supposed to be supported by ANY and ALL IMAP servers. Second, not having access to the logs as an admin means you cannot do your job. You don't NEED TO KNOW how a protocol works, you need access to the logs so that you can use the error messages to find out what went wrong and THEN educate yourself with what you need to know at that time. As for Squirrelmail's log file, it is informative enough that I, a non-Domino user, was able to find the problem and relate to you what the issue was. I've used many different POP2, POP3, IMAP3, and IMAP4 daemons in the past. I have seen Microsoft's attempt at POP3, and IMAP3, and how they didn't support many items. I have used Squirrelmail for years, sometimes having issues with sort, and search, and sometimes not. Those times that I have, it has always been against some big, corporate, package that didn't implement the standard fully. I know there are Open Source packages that also do not, but there are enough people out there checking them to suggest not using them. [SM-USERS] Squirrelmail + iptables conflict
I'm having an interesting problem with squirrelmail and my basic iptables firewall (posted at the bottom of the message). The issue seems to be limited to the final line of the firewall which tells it to drop everything not already allowed. With that line present, even though I've allowed port 143 I get the error message that states "Error connecting to IMAP server: nix.domain.com. 110 : Connection timed out" As soon as I remove that line from the firewall squirrelmail can log in just fine. However even with that line present I can log into the Courier Imap service via either telnet or a standard mail client like Outlook / Outlook Express. I'm racking my brain trying to figure this one out. I want to specify which services are allowed and block everything else by default and I can't seem to figure out why squirrelmail can't connect with that line in place. I'd appreciate any suggestions anyone can offer. #!/bin/bash #Change the part after the = to the where you IPTABLES is on your system IPTABLES=/sbin/iptables #flush existing rules $IPTABLES -F INPUT $IPTABLES -F OUTPUT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -j ACCEPT -m state --state ESTABLISHED -i eth0 -p icmp $IPTABLES -A INPUT -j ACCEPT -m state --state ESTABLISHED -i eth0 -p tcp $IPTABLES -A INPUT -j ACCEPT -m state --state ESTABLISHED -i eth0 -p udp $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p icmp -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 20 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 21 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 22 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 25 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p udp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 110 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p udp --dport 110 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 143 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p udp --dport 143 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 443 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p udp --dport 443 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 783 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p udp --dport 783 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 993 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p udp --dport 993 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 6900:6910 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp -s 216.229.107.32 --dport 3306 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 20 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 21 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 22 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 25 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 80 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p udp --sport 80 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 110 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p udp --sport 110 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 143 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p udp --sport 143 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 443 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p udp --sport 443 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 783 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p udp --sport 783 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 993 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p udp --sport 993 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A OUTPUT -p tcp --sport 6900:6910 -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp -j REJECT --- SF.Net email is sponsored by: Tame your development challenges with Apache's Geronimo App Server. Re: [SM-USERS] Squirrelmail + iptables conflict
My understanding of iptables was it read top to bottom and you could either specify a default policy or the $iptables -A INPUT -j drop at the last line. To see if it would make any difference I removed the last line and instead specified a default policy of drop for all incoming packets then left the rest. I still get the same error message trying to log into squirrelmail. Marc Powell mentioned: >Just a suggestion but instead of just guessing what iptables might be >doing why don't you reject and log? That way you'll know exactly what >it's seeing and can more easily determine why it's dropping the packets. I tried adding a -LOG rule and then testing it. I then searched the kern.log messages and syslog files and wasn't able to find anything in the logs from my ip to the linux box port 143 or 80. Perhaps you could show me the syntax you would use for testing. I may not have used the correct one. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. --- SF.Net email is sponsored by: Tame your development challenges with Apache's Geronimo App Server. Re: [SM-USERS] Squirrelmail + iptables conflict
Jon, Yes I am running courier, but the problem turned out to be unrelated to the MAXPERIP setting. I was finally able to see what was happening via iptables logging to the screen (I couldn't get it to log this particular drop to a file for some reason) and fixed the issue by re-writing my firewall including the following line "$IPTABLES -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT" Now if I could just easily get iptables to log dropped packets to it's own file, rather than kern.log/messages/syslog I'd be a happy camper. -Jesse On 11/8/05, Jonathan Angliss <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- > Hash: SHA1 > > > On Tue, November 8, 2005 12:19, J. [SM-USERS] Prolem viewing mail text after downloading attachments.
After viewing or downloading an attachment, the text of the original message is no longer visible until the user logs out and back in to Squirrelmail. There are no errors in the logs, and no error is reported in the browser. The behavior is consistently reproducable and happens in all browsers. Configuration info is below. courier-imap php 4.4.2 FreeBSD 6.0 Apache 1.3 Squirrelmail 1.4.2 Everything installed from ports.
[SM-USERS] Strange behavior with an attachment.
A user attaches a file in SquirrelMail. It shows up in the compose window and it seems to attach correctly but, after sending, the attachment is no longer there. It appears in the sent fold as "untitled-[1] 0 k [ multipart/alternative ]" I have several reports of this behavior from users, but I haven't been able to reproduce it. My first thought was that this is not a squirrelmail issue (and I'm still skeptical), but I need to rule it out. I don't see any other common denominators among these users. SquirrelMail 1.4.2 php 4.3.6 FreeBSD 5.x Apache 1.3 courier-imap Thanks.
Re: [SM-USERS] Strange behavior with an attachment.
SquirrelMail 1.4.2 Courier-IMAP FreeBSD 6.x PHP 5.1.x Apache 1.3 I had this issue a while back, but was unable to resolve it. Problem still persists for my users. What I noticed is that some Content-type that comes into our system is interpretted (correctly), by SM and I am able to view/download the attachment. However, if I try to forward this message (BOTH as regular forward and forward as attachment)... the message is sent with the "untitled-[1] 0 k [ multipart/alternative ]" attachment. I can see this in my Sent folder, as well as on the recepient's mailbox (on the same system). The recepient is unable to view/download the attachment, nor am I able to view/download the attachment from my Sent folder. However, as noted by Matthew Ruzicka, is viewable/downloadable in a standard client such as Mozilla Thunderbird or MS Outlook. A particular instance, adding to what Matthew said, is when one of my users sent a PDF file from another system. SM recognized the attachment, and showed me it as "[ application/octet-stream ]". I am able to download this file correctly. If I compose a new message and attach the same file, SM will note it as being "[ application/pdf ]", which is more appropriate. The problem in this situation lies when I try to forward the "[ application/octet-stream ]". When I forward it, my Sent folder will show the untitled 0k and the recepient of the message (on the same system) will see the untitled 0k as well in SM. This may have something to do with how SM handles the converting of the octet-stream content type. Is there something I can modify to the SM code to alieviate the issue? Thank you. -Alex On 5/3/06, Matt Ruzicka <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Hmm.. That's really interesting because we have had similar reports. Here are our specs: SquirrelMail 1.4.6 FreeBSD 4.x Apache 2.2.x PHP 5.1.x Courier-IMAP It has been a while since I looked into this, but I seem to remember my testing indicated it was the result of certain mailer scripts or clients not adding a name or filename label to the Content-Type or Content-Disposition headers. Although other clients such as OE and Thunderbird handled them properly I sort of assumed they were just "fixing" the broken formatting, where as SM was maybe truer to RFC. I could be off base on that assumption though. I seem to remember that if I manually edited the mail file and added those labels I believe the attachments would be handled as expected. This lead me to believe it was how the original message was being broken apart then re-attached that might be the problem. We discovered that if the user just forwarded as attachment (which I understand other web clients like yahoo and hotmail do by default) everything forwarded fine. Either way it was primarily affecting one user that was receiving mail from a FAX service that was adding a 'X-Mailer: Mabry' header so we told them to just forward as attachment. If this could be "fixed" that would be great as well, but unless someone who understands mail RFC better than I do indicates otherwise, I'm not sure SM is actually going anything "wrong". All of the variables described in the INSTALL for squirrelmail seem to be set correctly when this php runs. squirrelmail is in /var/www/html/sqmail In my browser when I type in /var/www/html/sqmail/index.php all I get back is Not Found The requested URL /cgi-bin/php/sqmail/index.php was not found on this server. Re: [SM-USERS] newbie: Not Found Error
My first post on the group and I screw up the question, sorry, it was the end of a long day. What I meant to say, instead of /var/www/html/sqmail/index.php was http://localhost/sqmail/index.php, which normally should work. I realize that everything is relative. I just don't understand why it's trying to be relative to cgi-bin/php instead of html. My DOCUMENT_ROOT is set to /var/www/html. My test php that dumps info works regardless of whether I'm on the same machine or a different one. http://localhost/hello.php --- [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > On Mon 25 Aug 2003 09:43:46 PM CDT, P J > <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> said: > > > > > DocumentRoot /var/www/html > > > squirrelmail is in /var/www/html/sqmail > > > > In my browser when I type in > > /var/www/html/sqmail/index.php all I get back is > > > > Not Found > > The requested URL /cgi-bin/php/sqmail/index.php > was > > not found on this server. > > > > I'd say you was a little wet behind the ears :). > Try just a regular > url like > http://localhost/sqmail/index.php if apache happens > to be running on > the same > machine you are running your browser on. else > subsitute 'localhost' > with > the hostname of the machine running apache. > > EVERYTHING is relative to the document root which is > '/' > so your sqmail is '/sqmail/index.php' or > http:///sqmail/index.php > > Ron > > > > > > --- > This SF.net email is sponsored by: VM Ware > With VMware you can run multiple operating systems > on a single machine. > WITHOUT REBOOTING! Re: [SM-USERS] newbie: Not Found Error
It's looking like there is something in the configuration of Apache or PHP that's really causing the problem. I put 1.4.1 on another machine that I already had a running PHP bug tracking application and brought up SM in about 10 minutes. [SM-USERS] SSL & Windows mail-sending bug in 1.44
I'm having users unable to send mail on certain platforms. They click the send button, then get a Windows error page. I've confirmed this behaviour with IE and Firefox on XP SP2. Squirrelmail sends mail via SMTP to localhost. I tried some of the IMAP tuning tips from the SM faq. No joy. Tried to use IE both in SSL and cleartext modes. No joy. When I started playing round with my Irix box I got some helpfull error messages, compaining about invalid security certs on the "send" page. I got a similar message with a Windows 95 emulator, so I disabled SSL in httpd.conf. Now Netscape on Irix sends mail fine, but I still have no way of sending mail via XP. Any ideas? Re: [SM-USERS] Accessing Squirrelmail via HTTPS
All you need to do is to make sure your web server is serving up ssl pages on port 443. This is done in your apache config files, and make sure you generate a ssl cert and ssl key. This can be a self signed cert if you wish to save some money. You should be fine with your current imap and sendmail. You do not need imaps since you will be authenticating via ssl. Good luck, -- J. [SM-USERS] can't get vlogin plugin to use username as default From address
Howdy... I'm tweaking a new installation so that I can get it ready for my users to come over from an old sendmail server. I host multiple domains and people are used to logging in to OpenWebMail with their email address and password and getting custom settings. My RHEL4 box came with squirrelmail RPMs, so I decided to go with it. :) We're looking at SquirrelMail 1.4.6 along with postfix 2.1.5, dovecot 0.99.11 for IMAP, php 4.3.9, apache 2.0.52. I've installed vacation_local 2.0, compatibility 2.0, and vlogin 3.8.0 with multilogin 2.3.2 (which I've determined I don't need, since it's all on one IMAP server). The compatibility plugin seemed to break my SELinux stuff, so I've done a "setenforce 0" for now. Goal: get multiple (say, 30) domains hosted using one URL for access (SSL, one certificate), one IMAP server, have the users enter their email addresses to login, and have the users be able to send mail and have it look like it's coming from their own domain. The actual host domain (call it hostname.com) shouldn't appear anywhere but the URL. This is what's happening: I login with user [EMAIL PROTECTED] and I get in and can see my email. I compose an email and send it and instead of coming from that address, I see a From address of [EMAIL PROTECTED], which is my actual login on the box. I know I can go into Options and Personal Information and set my From address there, but I don't want to have to do that for every user across 30 domains. What am I missing? Here're the important sections of my vlogin config file... array( 'domain' => 'domain1.com', 'org_name' => '###VIRTUAL_DOMAIN###', 'org_title' => '###VIRTUAL_DOMAIN### Mail', 'motd' => 'Welcome!', 'settingsWithEmbeddedPHP' => array( 'org_name', 'org_title' ) ), 'domain2.net' => array( 'domain' => 'domain2.net', 'org_name' => '###VIRTUAL_DOMAIN###', 'org_title' => '###VIRTUAL_DOMAIN### Mail', 'motd' => 'Welcome!', 'settingsWithEmbeddedPHP' => array( 'org_name', 'org_title' ) ) ); $useDomainFromVirtDomainsArray = 1; $reverseDotSectionOrder = 0; $numberOfDotSections = 2; $removeFromFront = 1; $checkByExcludeList = 1; $notPartOfDomainName = array('www' ,'mail' ,'email' ,'webmail'); $chopOffDotSectionsFromLeft = 0; $chopOffDotSectionsFromRight = 0; $at = '@'; $dot = '.'; $atConversion = array(); $forceLowercase = 0; $replacements = array( // '-' => '_', // all dashes converted to underscores // 'xx' => '',// all double xx's removed ); $alwaysAddHostName = 0; $putHostNameOnFrontOfUsername = 0; $dontUseHostName = 1; $smHostIsDomainThatUserLoggedInWith = 1; $removeDomainIfGiven = 0; $usernameDomainIsHost = 0; $virtualDomainDataDir = ''; $allVirtualDomainsAreUnderOneHost = ''; $securePort = 443; $stripDomainFromUserSubstitution = 0; $usernameReplacements = array( // '-' => '_', // all dashes converted to underscores // 'xx' => '',// all double xx's removed ); $sendmailVirtualUserTable = '/etc/postfix/virtual'; $translateHostnameTable = ''; $pathToQmail = ''; $default_org_logo = ''; $perUserSettingsFile = ''; $serviceLevelBackend = 0; $internalServiceLevelFile = '/path/to/squirrelmail/plugins/vlogin/data/service _levels.dat'; $sqlServiceLevelQuery = 'SELECT service_level FROM users WHERE username = "%1" '; $SQLDatabaseDomainLookup = ''; $SQLDatabaseUserLookup = ''; $SQLDatabaseServiceLevelLookup = ''; $vlogin_dsn = 'mysql://user:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/email_users'; $vlogin_debug = 0; ?> Thanks so much for any help, chris. -- squirrelmail-users mailing list Posting Guidelines: http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/MailingListPostingGuidelines List Address: squirrelmail-users@lists.sourceforge.net List Archives: http://news.gmane.org/thread.php?group=gmane.mail.squirrelmail.user List Archives: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=2995 List Info: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/squirrelmail-users

Hi Tomas... thanks for the response. If I take the vlogin plugin out, the users aren't able to login using their email address... they have to login using their actual username on the server (which may have nothing to do with their email address), so if there's a way to accomplish that without vlogin, then great. :) Right now, though, with vlogin installed they're able to login as [EMAIL PROTECTED], but their From address is their actual username plus the host name (which could be like [EMAIL PROTECTED]), and they wouldn't be able to receive email at that address. chris. -- squirrelmail-users mailing list Posting Guidelines: http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/MailingListPostingGuidelines List Address: squirrelmail-users@lists.sourceforge.net List Archives: http://news.gmane.org/thread.php?group=gmane.mail.squirrelmail.user List Archives: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=2995 List Info: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/squirrelmail-users
Re: [SM-USERS] can't get vlogin plugin to use username as default From address
I see... I didn't realize that's how vlogin worked. I tried going to the virtual domain URL and logging in as [EMAIL PROTECTED] This time when I sent a message I got the From address to be [EMAIL PROTECTED] so we're almost there. :) Should I be looking at a different plugin for this functionality? I know there's the virtusertable plugin that I could use just to have that login part... but what about the autoconfiguring of the From address? chris. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Tomas Kuliavas Sent: Sunday 18 June 2006 13:13 To: squirrelmail-users@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: Re: [SM-USERS] can't get vlogin plugin to use username as default >From address >> > I know I can go into Options and Personal Information and >> set my From >> > address there, but I don't want to have to do that for every user >> > across 30 domains. I think, plugin does not save name used for login. Theoretically it can be fixed, if plugin saves login name used for login and sets it as email address after login is verified. -- Tomas -- squirrelmail-users mailing list Posting Guidelines: http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/MailingListPostingGuidelines List Address: squirrelmail-users@lists.sourceforge.net List Archives: http://news.gmane.org/thread.php?group=gmane.mail.squirrelmail.user List Archives: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=2995 List Info: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/squirrelmail-users -- squirrelmail-users mailing list Posting Guidelines: http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/MailingListPostingGuidelines List Address: squirrelmail-users@lists.sourceforge.net List Archives: http://news.gmane.org/thread.php?group=gmane.mail.squirrelmail.user List Archives: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=2995 List Info: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/squirrelmail-users
Re: [SM-USERS] can't get vlogin plugin to use username as default From address
Hi Paul... thanks for responding. :) I do have multilogin patched in (sorry I didn't mention it before), so that's why the usesessionbased is set to 1... but I'm not really using the functionality that multilogin provides (I don't think). I've set the domain in the virtual_domains array, but it doesn't seem to work -- evidenced by the fact that composed emails get the proper domain appended only if the URL I use to access SM is also the proper domain. Maybe one of my other settings is wrong, and I've included my config file again below. The other thing is that I want to use the email address in the virtusertable as the from address, which is not the same as [EMAIL PROTECTED] If my virtusertable looks like this: [EMAIL PROTECTED] username then I want to have the emails coming from [EMAIL PROTECTED] and not [EMAIL PROTECTED] Right now if I login with the URL of https://mail.hostname.tld and use my [EMAIL PROTECTED] to login, then I get the correct account (the virtusertable lookup is happening correctly)... but the composed emails come from [EMAIL PROTECTED] If I login with the URL of https://mail.domain.tld (and deal with the popup warnings) and user [EMAIL PROTECTED] to login, I get the correct account, but composed emails come from [EMAIL PROTECTED] (again, instead of the desired [EMAIL PROTECTED]). I hope I'm not adding to the confusion. :) The compatibility plugin breaking SELinux can be for another discussion thread. :) Thanks so much, chris. -Original Message- On 6/18/06, Christopher J. Hinkle <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I see... I didn't realize that's how vlogin worked. If the actual usernames are in the form "username" (and not "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"), SM should be just appending the default domain to outgoing messages. If that is what your situation is (depends what's in your virtual map I suppose), but it isn't working, that could be because you need to use the multilogin part of things. BTW, I see no reason why the compatibility plugin would break SELinux policies...? Also, please turn off $useSessionBased if you have not applied the multilogin patch and don't have that plugin in place too. - paul # config.php array( 'domain' => 'domain1.com', 'org_name' => '###VIRTUAL_DOMAIN###', 'org_title' => '###VIRTUAL_DOMAIN### Mail', 'motd' => 'Welcome!', 'settingsWithEmbeddedPHP' => array( 'org_name', 'org_title' ) ), 'domain2.net' => array( 'domain' => 'domain2.net', 'org_name' => '###VIRTUAL_DOMAIN###', 'org_title' => '###VIRTUAL_DOMAIN### Mail', 'motd' => 'Welcome!', 'settingsWithEmbeddedPHP' => array( 'org_name', 'org_title' ) ) ); $useDomainFromVirtDomainsArray = 1; $reverseDotSectionOrder = 0; $numberOfDotSections = 2; $removeFromFront = 1; $checkByExcludeList = 1; $notPartOfDomainName = array('www' ,'mail' ,'email' ,'webmail'); $chopOffDotSectionsFromLeft = 0; $chopOffDotSectionsFromRight = 0; $at = '@'; $dot = '.'; $atConversion = array(); $forceLowercase = 0; $replacements = array( // '-' => '_', // all dashes converted to underscores // 'xx' => '',// all double xx's removed ); $alwaysAddHostName = 0; $putHostNameOnFrontOfUsername = 0; $dontUseHostName = 1; $smHostIsDomainThatUserLoggedInWith = 1; $removeDomainIfGiven = 0; $usernameDomainIsHost = 0; $virtualDomainDataDir = ''; $allVirtualDomainsAreUnderOneHost = ''; $securePort = 443; $stripDomainFromUserSubstitution = 0; $usernameReplacements = array( // '-' => '_', // all dashes converted to underscores // 'xx' => '',// all double xx's removed

Unfortunately it looks like OpenWebMail uses its own method of storage, interacting directly with the filesystem. I'm migrating from sendmail (POP3)/OpenWebMail to a new box that has postfix/dovecot/squirrelmail. I'm thinking I need to either write a script to handle it or find one already written. It looks like the mail's stored in the same format as squirrelmail's mail, but when I moved a test mailbox over, it didn't appear automatically... I looked in the Folders section and it had it available as a subscription. So instead of clicking the "subscribe" button I tried just adding the line to the .subscriptions file in the user's directory and reloaded the web page. It caused this error when I clicked the new folder ("Sent2") from the left hand side nav bar: ERROR: Could not complete request. Query: SELECT "Sent2" Reason Given: Internal error occured. I thought my meaning was clear by the rest of my post. The way you went on to describe the way vlogin works, I think that it's working correctly (regardless of the setting above, in my case). It's finding the username and logging into the proper account. My problem was that I was expecting it to do something it's apparently not designed to do, and that is to set the user's .prefs file to say that the user should be emailing with a From address of his or her login name instead of the username on the machine. Do I understand correctly? "Wash" wrote back and said that the way I'd best preset the .prefs file is to use the New User Wizard plugin... which isn't ideal for what I want to do either I see you just responded with more, so I'll check those out. The issue that I thought vlogin would not be able to correct is that the username is not necessarily the start of the email address. For example, my email address has "chinkle" as the recipient name, but my actual username on the box is "chinkle3." So, yes, the target username is "domainless," but not only do we have the issue of SM appending the wrong domain name onto the username, but that the actual username is being used instead of what was used to login (e.g. [EMAIL PROTECTED] should be used, but [EMAIL PROTECTED] is what shows up in the From header). [SM-USERS] plugin problems: image_buttons
Howdy... I installed the image_buttons plugin, and I got nothin'. Nothing changed at all in my display. I went to the Options|Display Preferences and made sure that under "Graphical Menu Bar" I chose "Icons" or "Icons with Text" and submitted my changes -- even closed the session, came back, checked the settings again, etc. -- and still no images. My .pref file contains the settings I chose. I don't even have the broken images icons on the browser -- it's like it's not even trying... just renders text menus. What should the owner and group permissions be for the image files in squirrelmail/plugins/image_buttons/images directory? Could that be my problem? However, once I did the patch, the whole thing no longer worked and I had to reverse it. [SM-USERS] How can I change the FROM address for my users

[SM-USERS] vacation_local plugin doesn't accommodate aliases
Howdy... I've been using vacation_local with my 1.4.7 squirrelmail installation without a problem, but one of my users just emailed saying she couldn't get it to work. The problem is that my username on the mail system and my email address prior to the @ sign are the same, but hers is different. Example: 1. [EMAIL PROTECTED] uses username chinkle on the mail server. Vacation_local works great because .forward looks like this: "|/usr/bin/vacation chinkle" 2. [EMAIL PROTECTED] uses username rgb-cthompson on the mail server. The autoresponder fails because the .forward looks like this: "|/usr/bin/vacation rgb-cthompson" - INSTEAD OF - "|/usr/bin/vacation -a [EMAIL PROTECTED] rgb-cthompson" which works just great. Unfortunately when I installed it I wiped out the config file, so now it doesn't work at all. MORE unfortunately, I realized the previous 2.0 version was, in fact, working just fine with the -a syntax when I looked at the logs and saw that others were using it successfully. This user just happened not to have her email address configured in her preferences. And as an aside, I found the bit about my usernames being "too inconsistent" to be unnecessarily catty and that it didn't add to the discussion at all. [SM-USERS] Problem with 'All Folders' search in v1.4.11 ?
Hi everyone, I recently upgraded to v1.4.11 and seem to be having trouble when searching messages using the 'All folders' option. The cause of the problem may well be unrelated to v1.4.11 (or indeed Squirrelmail at all) however I've not had problems previously and the SM upgrade is the only *known* change. The symptoms of the problem are best described in conjunction with a screenshot of the result: http://www.newtonnet.co.uk/temporary/sm-screenshot.jpg (169KB JPEG) As you can see I searched for the arbitrary term 'building' and the results (which I can confirm do indeed contain this term) seem to be all jumbled up. Specifically, the first result has two folder names shown for it - Inbox and Trash (it's actually in Inbox) and the second result says the folder is Archive.2003.August 2003 Inbox whereas the message is actually in Archive.2007.August 2007 Inbox! In an attempt to narrow down the variables if I search for, say, a name and specify the From field then the problem is reproduced. The only common factor appears to be the use of the 'All Folders' option as when an individual folder is specified the search results work correctly (perhaps this is a red-herring given only one folder is being searched). My system details are: OS: Kubuntu Dapper v6.06, SM: v1.4.11 (direct from SM site), PHP: v5.1.2-1ubuntu3, IMAP: Dovecot v1.0.beta3-3ubuntu ...anything else required? For what it's worth, I can confirm that the problem occurs for other users too (i.e. with a different mailbox), and all other aspects of SM are functioning correctly. Any help would be most appreciated - if you require me to do anything further just shout. Regards, Mathew - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. [SM-USERS] Config problem or bug? Truncated Subject in Message List View.
I'm not confident enough to call this one a bug. I'm new to Squirrelmail and it could be a simple config issue. I've noticed that my subject list in my INBOX (and other folders too) view has many e-mails that have a truncated subject with "..." appended to it. Some times it is completely truncated and has only the "..." and other times it is 10, 12 20 or 21 or 25 (you get the point) characters into the subject that it gets chopped and replaced. It happens to all types of e-mail. - My Local CRON job e-mail. - Amazon.com receipts. - Mail from this very list. - Processed and unprocessed by MIMEDefang and Spamassassin. Any pointers/ideas would be a great help. If it's a bug, confirmation would put my mind at ease. Fun. Try the all-new Yahoo! Messenger Cindy, I am not sure of what squirrelMail would offer for this activity but these are functions related to sys admin work. If you run SquirrelMail on a UNIX machine, you only need to cobble together a simple script that has some "find", and "grep" statments, and have this script run on your "maillog" and/or "syslog/messages". Depending on your MTA, it is a simple function. If you google on this topic, you will even find some fancy perl scripts that perform this work for you. I know it will work because I am using a perl script written to glean all this info from posfix. I tossed it into cron, and have the results sent to me via email each day. Just like ordering pizza: you call and it comes. Now if you are unfortunate enough to be running some kind of windoze maching, there must, I would hope, be a somewhat similar method of doing things. [SM-USERS] Problems with SquirrelMail 1.2.9
Hello; Recently the isp where I host a couple of my clients, had an attack on one of their servers. The admins secured the server, but now ever since they closing some ports I get this error on Squirrel Mail 1.2.9. I sincerely don’t have an idea how to fix this problem. Please be kind enough to look at the error I get and please give me some insight to what could be causing Squirrel Mail to produce the error below. The error occurs whenever I try to log into squirrel mail. Please try it yourselves and let me know what you all think: http://www.argospr.com/mail username: bbunny password: carrot SquirrelMail version 1.2.9 By the SquirrelMail Development Team ERROR Unknown user or password incorrect. RE: [SM-USERS] Problems with SquirrelMail 1.2.9
Yeah sorry about the broken link.. that got in I don't know how.. :P The bunny account is an account for you guys to play it with. So don't worry. :) I am including the guy from the ISP ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), so he sees your replies. Hoping to fix this situation on time. The error that boggles me though is the one you found interesting: > The interesting thing is when I tried I > get a different error "You must be logged in to view this page". When the ISP made the changes to the servers, this error popped up even when running a restored backup. I then decided to install the new version but as well this error pops up. What do you think this error could be? Thanks Jonathan for your help. Unfortunately unless you have access to some information, it'd be very difficult to diagnose the situation and/or propose a solution. This suggests the username or password isn't found in the imap servers authentication system. This might be an issue you want to get your ISP to look into this one. RE: [SM-USERS] Squirrel Mail on cobalt / login problems
Sorry everyone. The company where I got the dsl with was having e-mail server problems so e-mails I sent one time got triplicated by them. It wasn't really my fault, but still I apologize. Sorry for the trouble if any. I don't mind helping people off list, and by all means, contact me directly if you feel it necessary, but I don't think the same email 4 times is necessary, especially when if you looked at the list archives from a short while ago, a lot of people were having such an issue, and a possible fix was proposed. -- Jonathan Angliss ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) --- This sf.net email is sponsored by: To learn the basics of securing your web site with SSL, click here to get a FREE TRIAL of a Thawte Server Certificate: http://www.gothawte.com/rd524.html -- squirrelmail-users mailing list List Address: [EMAIL PROTECTED] List Archives: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=2995 List Info: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/squirrelmail-users --- This sf.net email is sponsored by: To learn the basics of securing your web site with SSL, click here to get a FREE TRIAL of a Thawte Server Certificate: http://www.gothawte.com/rd524.html -- squirrelmail-users mailing list List Address: [EMAIL PROTECTED] List Archives: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=2995 List Info: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/squirrelmail-users

[SM-USERS] Problem with Subject of mail sent
Hi list, I'm new in the list, so this is the first mail I send to the list requesting for help. I have SM 1.2.10 [cvs] installed in a G4 with YellowDog Linux 2.0 and the problem I have is that when I send a message using SM the subject is send with blanks. I already search in List Archives but I couldn't find anything related with this problem. Everything else is working OK, I only have this problem. Is there somebody who knows what is happening? Have you checked your mail logs? Have you disabled mail relay via your mail server config files? How this is accomplished depends on your mta, i.e. sendmail, postfix, etc. You can and should lock it down... -- J. [SM-USERS] personal information fields are still available after running config.pl
Hello, I am running version 1.4.8-5.e15.centos.7. I have ran the config.pl script and set the options to edit personal information to FALSE. I have checked the OPTIONS.PHP file and they say false as well. But my users are still able to edit this info. What file can I modify to kill the OPTIONS>PERSONAL INFORMATION>NAME AND ADDRESS OPTIONS fields? Thanks, Dave -- Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial.
