Message listing contains darker header line with column names and
checkboxes/arrows. You can change sorted column by clicking on checkbox.
Arrows are triggers that change column sorting order.

These checkboxes and arrows should disappear only if you have enabled
thread view.

I had an error like this.. The fix was editing my php.ini file and change

to

ini_set("memory_limit", "12M");

Hope this helps.

Re: [SM-USERS] SM set up

Hi Emmanuel.

SquirrelMail is an IMAP client, i.e. you need an IMAP server for
SquirrelMail to work. This server can be yours of someone elses.

If you want to retrive e-mail from another server, IMAP or POP3 doesn't
matter, SquirrelMail can do that, as long as you have an IMAP server to
store the retrieved e-mail on. If you don't have an IMAP server at the
branch office, every action in SquirrelMail is going to setup a call to
the main office, which might not be a prefered behaviour.

Since SquirrelMail is a client, mail will only be retrieved when the user
asks for it, i.e. clicks a link, or you can configure SquirrelMail to
automatically retreive e-mail when the user log in. But if you are going
to use dialup to retreive e-mail, this might not be a preferable solution,
since every user will setup a phone call to send and retreive his/hers
e-mail. If you have many users you might want to set up an IMAP server at
the branch office, and then have that server calling the main office
automatically at set intervalls. Compare the costs for the two different
solutions and let break even determine which solution to use.

Sincerly,
Fredrik.

PS. I'm not an experienced admin, so you might want to get a second
opinion. I take no responsibilty at all for any advice I give in this
matter. F.

Disable server-side sorting using the conf.pl tool. Believe it or not,

Have you done anything to enable the plugin, either by running conf.pl or
by editing config.php?
http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/en_US/InstallingPlugins

Have you followed the instructions to install your new theme?

As far as I can see that plugin just changes the folder that is displayed
when you login. You also have to precofigure where it's going to put
you so it's really not much use for what I'm trying to do.

Basicly I want to be able to login to a SquirrelMail account and goto a
perticular URL (Compose, Mailbox, Read a message) in a single POST action.
I was hoping that there was some way I could craft a POST or a URL with
the username and password that would take me directly to the page I
specify (in the URL or POST) rather than just being droped at webmail.php.
If anyone has any crazy ideas I'd love to hear them.

I thought I'd answer my own post, in case anyone find this when searching
the archives for a similar solution.

I read http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/en_US/AttachmentSize, which says
that to alter the maximum attachment size you must change three values:
  [memory_limit]
  [post_max_size]
  [upload_max_filesize]

However, I tried simply creating an .htaccess file in my SM directory,
containing just the following line:

  php_value upload_max_filesize 10M

This has worked to increase the maximum attachment size from 2M to 10M. I
successfully attached and uploaded a 8.7 MB file.

Do I need to do anything else? Why does the Wiki state that those other
two values also need to be changed?

[SM-USERS] fsockopen(): unable to connect | 36 : Operation now in progress

2004-03-16 Thread maarten

Hello,

Since this morning, Squirrelmail gives me the following error message when I try
to login:

fsockopen(): unable to connect
36 : Operation now in progress

Until now, I have tried the following options:

- Reinstalling Squirrelmail (the newest version, 1.5.0)
- Restarting the IMAP-server
- Configurate Squirrelmail with another IMAP-server

But all these options didn't solve the problem. When I try to access
Squirrelmail from cPanel, everything is working fine.

Please help me!

There are two quick and dirty ways of doing this that I can see. You
want to go to the compose page right?

In redirect.php change:

  $redirect_url = 'webmail.php';
to
  $redirect_url = 'webmail.php?right_frame=compose.php';
OR

In webmail.php add:

  $right_frame = 'compose.php';

around line 112 or so, just after the comments about how to call
webmail.php.

However I'm quite ham fisted when it comes to PHP. I'm more

If you can code in perl, you you shouldn't have too much trouble with php.

Hope this helps,

I want to be able to dynamically change the page I end up at using the
POST/URL. The compose page is as good a place as any to start ;)

> In redirect.php change:
>
>$redirect_url = 'webmail.php';
> to
>$redirect_url = 'webmail.php?right_frame=compose.php';
Frankly I was thinking something more along the lines of:
$redirect_url = 'compose.php'
So that *just* the compose page opens without the left hand menu frame.

Perhaps I could do something like this around line 137 of redirect.php

sqGetGlobalVar('other_url', $other_url)
if($other_url != '') (
  $redirect_url = $other_url;
) else (
  ... the normall $redirect_url setting code ...
)

Then in all I have to do is POST to redirect.php with the
'login_username', 'secretkey' (password) and 'other_url'..?
Though I'm not really sure that sqGetGlobalVar is the right function to
use. To get the form var. I have *NO* idea what I'm doing in the
SquirrelMail code :(

> OR
>
> In webmail.php add:

Again this is kinda a static thing and would mess up the general operation
of SquirrelMail. All I want to do is put in a shortcut way of logging in
and getting to a perticular page.

>> However I'm quite ham fisted when it comes to PHP. I'm more

Heh No php doesn't look all that bad and I've been meaning to get into
it more. It's just *yet annother* set of syntax, core functions and
methodoligy to learn.

> Hope this helps,
It does indeed. You seem to be saying that what I want to do will require
coding that's question one answered ;)

Now all I have to do is figure out the easist and most un-intrusive way of
getting this done. Hopefully in some manner that the maintainers will be
happy to roll into the next release so that I'm not forever patching new
releases. If you can give me any pointers there it would be most handy!

Many thanks

  Nick

Er yes but that's not all. I'm trying to open a single page without
rest of the frame set, but do it in a single action. For example I would
like to be able to send a POST (containing Username and pass info) to
redirect.php, and rather than being sent to '/webmail.php' be sent to
'/right_main.php?PG_SHOWALL=0&sort=0&startMessage=1&mailbox=INBOX' or
perhaps '/compose.php?mailbox=INBOX'. Is that any clearer?

Yep. One more way to say "frameless squirrelmail".

http://www.topolis.lt/squirrelmail/sm-lite/src-redirect.php.diff.gz

http://www.topolis.lt/squirrelmail/sm-lite/
1. Remove frames. (src-redirect.php.diff.gz)
2. Fix or remove frame target tags (other three patches)
3. install jump_to_folder plugin and add it to right_main_after_header
hook. If you want navigation between folders, you will need that plugin.

compose.php uses mailbox variable together with other variables. without
them there is no point of using '?mailbox=INBOX'

[SM-USERS] Fatal error"Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /internet/www/home/gary/squirrelmail-1.4.2/functions/imap_mailbox.php on line 641

2004-03-16 Thread Gary Lam

Hi,
I got the "Fatal error"Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in
  /internet/www/home/gary/squirrelmail-1.4.2/functions/imap_mailbox.php
   on line 641"
error message when clicking on the link on SM page. SM just hangs when I
click on any link. Anyone of you have encountered such a problem? Is it
because of my imap server?? Can anyone help?
thanks

There are two quick and dirty ways of doing this that I can see. You
want to go to the compose page right?
I want to be able to dynamically change the page I end up at using the
POST/URL. The compose page is as good a place as any to start ;)

In redirect.php change:

  $redirect_url = 'webmail.php';
to
  $redirect_url = 'webmail.php?right_frame=compose.php';
Frankly I was thinking something more along the lines of:
$redirect_url = 'compose.php'
So that *just* the compose page opens without the left hand menu frame.
That would work too.

Perhaps I could do something like this around line 137 of redirect.php

sqGetGlobalVar('other_url', $other_url)
if($other_url != '') (
  $redirect_url = $other_url;
) else (
  ... the normall $redirect_url setting code ...
)
Then in all I have to do is POST to redirect.php with the
'login_username', 'secretkey' (password) and 'other_url'..?
Though I'm not really sure that sqGetGlobalVar is the right function to
use. To get the form var. I have *NO* idea what I'm doing in the
SquirrelMail code :(
Looks like you are on the right track, which is what my intention was.
Just to point you in the right direction. From looking at globals.php in
the functions directory, it looks like sqGetGlobalVar() is the right
function to use. It searches in $_SESSION, $_POST, $_GET,
 * $_COOKIE, or $_SERVER. If you knew that you would only ever be using
POST data, you could just access $_POST['other_url'] and bypass this
function.

[...]
If you can code in perl, you you shouldn't have too much trouble with php.
Heh No php doesn't look all that bad and I've been meaning to get into
it more. It's just *yet annother* set of syntax, core functions and
methodoligy to learn.
Tell me about it.

Many thanks

Well here is my first peice of real php!

if ( $_POST['reloc_url'] == '' ) {
/* Compute the URL to forward the user to. */
$redirect_url = 'webmail.php';

if ( sqgetGlobalVar('session_expired_location',
$session_expired_location, SQ_SESSION) ) {
sqsession_unregister('session_expired_location');
$compose_new_win = getPref($data_dir, $username,
'compose_new_win', 0);
if ($compose_new_win) {
$redirect_url = $session_expired_location;
} elseif ( strpos($session_expired_location, 'webmail.php') ===
FALSE ) {
$redirect_url =
'webmail.php?right_frame='.urldecode($session_expired_location);
}
unset($session_expired_location);
}
} else {
$redirect_url = $_POST['reloc_url'];
}

And it works! Hurra! I can in a single click view any folder or message!
Now to get this working with my little python IMAP watcher and see if I
can't get a nifty launcher app going.

I suppose there should be some form of input checking to make sure that
the passed value is sain but apart from that... I think it does
everything I want.

Cool! My only problem now is that I'm running on a non-standard codebase :(
How likely is it that the maintainers of this fine product will add the
above changes in some form?
Should I assume that I would take that up on the dev list?
Should I make up a patch and send it to someone?

Many thanks!

If you want password security as well as encryption, download Putty and
create an SSH tunnel for your Squirrelmail session.
http://www.vbmysql.com/articles/sshtunnel.html is an article on how to
do it with mySQL but the technique applies to any application, including
SM.

[SM-USERS] Attachments get corrupted

2004-03-16 Thread Alan in Toronto
SquirrelMail 1.4.2
PHP 4.3.4
UWIMAPD (IMAP4rev1 2002.325-cpanel)
Apache 1.3.29
RedHat 7.3

I also have an .htaccess file in my SM directory, containing:

  php_value upload_max_filesize 10M

This has worked to increase the maximum attachment size from 2M to 10M.

I sent some messages today with attachments, and the files arrived
unreadable, perhaps corrupted. I searched archives and other sites, and
found various discussions about possible corrupted attachments in SM, but
nothing specific. Those same files can be sent successfully via PC-based
mail software.

I realize that this might not be a SM problem, but I thought someone here
might know the cause or solution. Can anyone shed some light on why some
mail attachments arrive unreadable and/or corrupt?

Have you reviewed the available login plugins?:

It seems like at least one of those will do what you want.

[SM-USERS] (no subject)

2004-03-16 Thread ECaC
Hello,

I am new to this mailing list but I have been using Squirrelmail for about
6 months. I have been limited to the use of ver. 1.2 due to the fact that
I am getting errors when I try to creat multiple identities with versions
1.4 and up (including ver.1.5).

I have tried to look through the archives and newsgroups but can't seem to
find a solution for this problem. The error that I am getting is that the
the si1.tmp file in the data directory can not be copied to the si1 file
for the user. I am guessing that this may be a perl problem.

I am running squirrelmail on a winXP Pro machine, with Apache 2.0.47 and
ActivePerl 5.8, I also have PHP 4.3.1

The following is the exact message that I get:
Signature file, ../data/username.si1, could not be copied from temporary
file, ../data/username.si1.tmp. Contact your system administrator to
resolve this issue.

I have allowed changing user identity in the setup file for squirrelmail.

Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Or you could do what the rest of the world does, and have your web clients
connect using HTTPS rather than HTTP. Combine that with the secure_login
plugin, and you've got a much easier solution to implement, plus it's
uniform across all browsers.. Not just for the users who bother to set up
the tunnel.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but here's how I did it:

I created a sub-domain that users enter in their browser to access SM. On
the server I created a Redirect to redirect that URL to an https address.
Thus all users get an SSL connection, all the time, but none of them needs
to type "https" to get it.

It seems much simpler than some of the solutions I've seen proposed here,
but perhaps I'm missing some potential added benefit.

The OP was not asking how to make it easier for his users by not having
to enter https://. In fact, he doesn't mention https at all.

It seems much simpler than some of the solutions I've seen proposed here,
but perhaps I'm missing some potential added benefit.
There are only 2 other solutions proposed in this thread, and one of
them is using HTTPS. Isn't that what you are proposing?

By the way, HOW did you do that cool redirect thing. Telling us that
your solution is much simpler is great, but a little bit more detail
would be nice.

Remember that not everyone is on a hosted server with pre-configured
IMAP, SMTP, and HTTP servers. Some of them have to configure those
themselves.

The secure_login plugin provides a similar kind of feature set without
having to play around with redirect rules and the likes.

Re: [SM-USERS] Addressbook

2004-03-16 Thread Fredrik Jervfors
Hi Amin.

> Where does it store all email address and name for squirrelmail ?

The adress book is stored in "[Path to SquirrelMail]/[Data directory
(usually "data")]/[Username].abook". Other user settings are stored in the
same directory with filenames "[Username].pref" and "[Username].si*"

> How to put it back in new squrrelmail all those email ?

The e-mails are not stored in SquirrelMail, but on your IMAP server. If
you have mails in a POP3 client, like Outlook Express, there's no easy way
(that I know of) to get those mails accessible in SquirrelMail.

My suggestion is that you should read the SquirrelMail documentation,
install SquirrelMail and laborate with it. I get the impression that
you're just asking out of the blue.

Sincerly,
Fredrik.

Re: [SM-USERS] Fw: squirrelmail-users digest, Vol 1 #1959 - 17 msgs

2004-03-16 Thread Fredrik Jervfors
Hi Sachin.

Why on Earth do you think that the whole digest is needed for that
question? Do you really think that someone is going to read all that to
understand what you're asking about?

My suggestion is that you trim down the digest, only showing the part
relevant to your question, and then post again IF you can't find the
answer in the other posts yourself.

Sincerly,
Fredrik.

Hello Sachin,
On Tuesday, March 16, 2004, Sachin wrote...

Now I know for a fact you've been subscribed to the mailing list for a
while. So why on EARTH did you quote the full digest? Especially after
my email the other day about posting guidelines.
