I have the same bug since I've updated to linux mint 22 with 6.8 kernel.
The bug exist from 6.0.8.31 till .40

The system gets stuck with black  screen and I have to shut it down

Dear Philip I found temporary solution by reverting back to Kernel Driver 
Callback method. Obviously the issue is in the  systemd power management. 
As far as I understood there is problem with some kernels and nvidia drivers.
