[Powerdevil] [Bug 494669] New: Would like to set a separate timeout for keyboard backlight
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=494669 Bug ID: 494669 Summary: Would like to set a separate timeout for keyboard backlight Classification: Plasma Product: Powerdevil Version: 6.2.0 Platform: Fedora RPMs OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: kde.shrug...@passmail.net CC: natalie_clar...@yahoo.de Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY If I’m watching a video or similar on my laptop, I don’t want the screen dimming, but I’d like if the keyboard went dark after 10-15 seconds of inactivity, and light up again as soon as I touch the trackpad or press a key. I think Dell laptops handle this automatically, but Asus just stays on the set brightness until it’s changed by me or the OS. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open System Settings > Power Management 2. [frameworks-solid] [Bug 398908] Dolphin uses up huge amounts of memory over time
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=398908 --- Comment #121 from Ahmad Samir --- The QRegularExpression related messages, either it's from the filter bar (which appears at the bottom of the view with Ctrl+i), or from the search bar (which appears under the toolbar with Ctrl+f). Were you using either of these tools? (I think we need to check the QRegularExpression object before calling QString::contains() in this case, since we're dealing with interactive input, which can have regex syntax errors). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[frameworks-kdesu] [Bug 452532] kdesu stopped working in KUbuntu due to sudo's use_pty option
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452532 --- Comment #18 from Ahmad Samir --- (In reply to Matthew Forrester from comment #17) > The Debian maintainer suggested altering the kdesu package to make kdesu use > the workaround: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1011624#10 > > I do not know how bad a security hole that would be. https://salsa.debian.org/sudo-team/sudo/-/commit/59db341d46aa4c26b54c1270e69f2562e7f3d751 sudo (1.9.5p2-3) unstable; urgency=medium We have added "Defaults use_pty" to the default configuration. This fixes CVE-2005-4890 which has been lingering around for more then a decade. If you would like the old behavior back, please remove the respective line from /etc/sudoers. Let me preface this with stating that I am not an expert on security; however I would say that kdesu should not ship a /etc/sudoers.d/kdesu file with "Defaults!/usr/lib/*/libexec/kf5/kdesu_stub !use_pty" (mentioned in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1011624#10) to circumvent a sudo setting/option. That sounds like a local hack, you could do it on your own system if you think it doesn't matter, but we can't force it on everyone else's systems. (And if it doesn't matter or not important, why was that setting enabled by default in sudoers in Debian?). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kdelibs] [Bug 297003] Newly created text files are not empty
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=297003 Ahmad Samir changed: What|Removed |Added CC||a.samir...@gmail.com --- Comment #12 from Ahmad Samir --- The original commit that introduced that change[1] mentions the file mimetype, which is still true; what's happening here is that QMimeDatabase can identify mimetypes based on the file extension, so a .txt file gets a proper icon. But if you remove the file extension, you'd end up with a file with a blank icon. Also: $ file 'Text File.txt' Text File.txt: ASCII text Removing the space and new line from the file: $ file 'Text File.txt' Text File.txt: empty so making the file empty would mess with the mimetype of the file. Fix D-Bus de/marshalling KGlobalAccel::MatchType Otherwise the globalShortcutsByKey() method is silently skipped, and isn't visible on the org.kde.KGlobalAccel D-Bus interface. It turns out that to test changes made in kglobalaccel d-bus interface, you need to kill the system /usr/bin/kglobalaccel process (be careful as that breaks the most basic shortcuts, e.g. Alt+Tab), and run the one from the build-dir, otherwise the session d-bus won't pick up your changes. To test: - List all methods on the interface: `qdbus org.kde.kglobalaccel /kglobalaccel` - The followin messages are printed in the system log/journal: Skipped method "globalShortcutsByKey" : Unregistered input type in parameter list: KGlobalAccel::MatchType Skipped method "globalShortcutsByKey" : Unregistered input type in parameter list: KGlobalAccel::MatchType To see the behaviour mentioned in the bug report: - Create a global shortcut of some kind (e.g. F4 to start some app) - open the shortcut editor in e.g. Dolphin, and try to assign that same shortcut to some other action the conflict shortcut message dialog should show a message similar to the one in the attached screenshot at: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454704#c0 The list of GlobalShortcutInfo returned by globalShortcutsByKey() is empty because the method couldn't be found on the d-bus interface. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=297003 --- Comment #15 from Ahmad Samir --- - Changing the contents of the new text file template based on the extension would make the code more complex - The experience would be a bit confusing, you create a "new file" and sometimes it has a " \n" and sometimes not - A file without an extension and 0 size has mimetype application/x-zerosize, and a blank icon The default template should cater to the typical use case, i.e. a user who wants to create a simple text file. Note that you can customize the behaviour: - Copy https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kio/-/blob/master/src/new_file_templates/TextFile.desktop to the templates dir (by default it's ~/Templates) - create a dir ~/Templates/.source/, and inside it create a "Text File.txt" file, put whatever text you want there or make it blank ...etc. KNewFileMenu will pick that ~/Templates/TextFile.desktop over the one baked into KIO (as a QResource). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[dolphin] [Bug 458709] [bug]: the closed file manager window crashes when copying
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458709 --- Comment #9 from Ahmad Samir --- The backtrace in comment#6 looks slightly different than the one from comment#0, could be two separate issues... the problem is the backtrace from comment#0 is not complete due to missing debug symbols. I tried reproducing this issue, and it happened 1-2 times, but I failed to make crash again. This *might* be related: https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kio/-/merge_requests/977 (it makes sense to parent the widgets to the dialog, not to its parent anyway). The question is, why is this happening only now when this code has been around for ages? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwayland-integration] [Bug 447538] On Wayland, Kate doesn't prefer opening files in an instance on the current virtual desktop
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=447538 --- Comment #4 from Ahmad Samir --- I don't know much about Wayland; so here is an observation, assuming there is a kate instance on the current virtual desktop, and focus stealing prevention is set to none: - Ctrl+Clicking in konsole opens the file in that kate instance and activates the window - From that konsole window, using `kate /path/to/some/file`, the file is opened in kate, but the window isn't activated, and the task manager highlights the kate window as requesting attention -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
