Bug ID: 438050
Summary: System monitor crashes on closing.
   Product: plasma-systemmonitor
   Version: 5.21.5
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: ksysguard-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: sahincap...@gmail.com
CC: ahiems...@heimr.nl, plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

Application: plasma-systemmonitor (5.21.5)

Qt Version: 5.15.3
Frameworks Version: 5.82.0
Operating System: Linux 5.4.0-74-generic x86_64
Windowing System: X11
Drkonqi Version: 5.21.5
Distribution: KDE neon User Edition 5.21

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:
1. I opened System Monitor.
2. I went through every single section: Overview, Applications, History,
Processes and again History.
3. I closed System Monitor.

- Unusual behavior I noticed:
Discover has a lot of time installing vscode snap. The session got locked. Then
I unlocked the session. After that, without close Discover I opened System
Monitor, go through every single section and finally on closing it crashed.

- Custom settings of the application:
In System Monitor, on Applications section I have clicked the button 'Show
Details Sidebar'.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

-- Backtrace:
Application: System Monitor (plasma-systemmonitor), signal: Segmentation fault

[Powerdevil] [Bug 494669] New: Would like to set a separate timeout for keyboard backlight

2024-10-13 Thread Samir
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=494669

Bug ID: 494669
Summary: Would like to set a separate timeout for keyboard
backlight
Classification: Plasma
   Product: Powerdevil
   Version: 6.2.0
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: kde.shrug...@passmail.net
CC: natalie_clar...@yahoo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
If I’m watching a video or similar on my laptop, I don’t want the screen
dimming, but I’d like if the keyboard went dark after 10-15 seconds of
inactivity, and light up again as soon as I touch the trackpad or press a key.

I think Dell laptops handle this automatically, but Asus just stays on the set
brightness until it’s changed by me or the OS.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open System Settings > Power Management
2. Look for a way to set a timeout for keyboard backlight

OBSERVED RESULT
Only available through "Dim automatically"

EXPECTED RESULT
Separate timing for turning off keyboard backlight without dimming screen

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
(available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a terminal window)
Linux/KDE Plasma: Fedora Linux 40
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.7.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2

Can the code get changed to make this setting saved? I usually find it very
annoying to search from the bottom up, and changing it every time I open a
konsole window is tedious ...

Thanks in advance.

The QRegularExpression related messages, either it's from the filter bar (which
appears at the bottom of the view with Ctrl+i), or from the search bar (which
appears under the toolbar with Ctrl+f). Were you using either of these tools?
(I think we need to check the QRegularExpression object before calling
QString::contains() in this case, since we're dealing with interactive input,
which can have regex syntax errors).

Testing dolphin briefly, it's not the filter bar, it's the search bar that's
using regex (it interprets the input as a regex).

This is due to a change in gdb upstream, starting from 11.1,
https://www.sourceware.org/gdb/news/ :
Mouse actions are now supported. The mouse wheel scrolls the appropriate
window.

disabling "Allow terminal applications to handle clicks and drags" in profile
settings -> mouse -> miscellaneous should restore the old gdb behaviour.

Alternatively pressing and holding Shift should allow you to select text as
usual in gdb.

I tested with Dolphin, doesn't seem to have this issue; my guess would be a
difference in how KXmlGui is used by Dolphin and Krusader. The method that
removes the accelerator from action text,
KLocalizedString::removeAcceleratorMarker() is used in a code path that is hit
by Dolphin in KXmlGui but not by Krusader.

[plasmashell] [Bug 454581] New: App icons are always added to the left of the task manager

2022-05-29 Thread Ahmad Samir
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454581

Bug ID: 454581
Summary: App icons are always added to the left of the task
manager
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Panel
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: a.samir...@gmail.com
CC: niccolo.venera...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

When I drag an app icon to the panel (from the application launcher menu or
krunner) to the right of the task manager, it looks like it's going to be added
there (the existing icons move to make space for the new one), then once I
"drop" it / release the mouse button, it's added to the left of the task
manager.

This with git master including
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-desktop/-/commit/38bf92fc70e6717fd46fb63fc59fc1eb32c721ce.

[frameworks-kdesu] [Bug 452532] kdesu stopped working in KUbuntu due to sudo's use_pty option

2022-05-30 Thread Ahmad Samir

https://salsa.debian.org/sudo-team/sudo/-/commit/59db341d46aa4c26b54c1270e69f2562e7f3d751

sudo (1.9.5p2-3) unstable; urgency=medium

We have added "Defaults use_pty" to the default configuration. This fixes
CVE-2005-4890 which has been lingering around for more then a decade.
If you would like the old behavior back, please remove the respective line
  from /etc/sudoers.

Let me preface this with stating that I am not an expert on security; however I
would say that kdesu should not ship a /etc/sudoers.d/kdesu file with
"Defaults!/usr/lib/*/libexec/kf5/kdesu_stub !use_pty" (mentioned in
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1011624#10) to circumvent a
sudo setting/option.

That sounds like a local hack, you could do it on your own system if you think
it doesn't matter, but we can't force it on everyone else's systems. (And if it
doesn't matter or not important, why was that setting enabled by default in
sudoers in Debian?).

The dialogue is showing the name of the dir where the partition was mounted; I

mount the partition.

If the partition has a Label set, that will be used as the mount point and in

[kdelibs] [Bug 297003] Newly created text files are not empty

Ahmad Samir changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 CC||a.samir...@gmail.com

The original commit that introduced that change[1] mentions the file mimetype,
which is still true; what's happening here is that QMimeDatabase can identify
mimetypes based on the file extension, so a .txt file gets a proper icon. But
if you remove the file extension, you'd end up with a file with a blank icon.

Also:
$ file 'Text File.txt'
Text File.txt: ASCII text

Removing the space and new line from the file:
$ file 'Text File.txt'
Text File.txt: empty

so making the file empty would mess with the mimetype of the file.

Fix D-Bus de/marshalling KGlobalAccel::MatchType

Otherwise the globalShortcutsByKey() method is silently skipped, and isn't
visible on the org.kde.KGlobalAccel D-Bus interface.

It turns out that to test changes made in kglobalaccel d-bus interface, you
need to kill the system /usr/bin/kglobalaccel process (be careful as that
breaks the most basic shortcuts, e.g. Alt+Tab), and run the one from the
build-dir, otherwise the session d-bus won't pick up your changes.

To test:
- List all methods on the interface:
  `qdbus org.kde.kglobalaccel /kglobalaccel`
- The followin messages are printed in the system log/journal:
Skipped method "globalShortcutsByKey" : Unregistered input type in parameter
list: KGlobalAccel::MatchType
Skipped method "globalShortcutsByKey" : Unregistered input type in parameter
list: KGlobalAccel::MatchType

To see the behaviour mentioned in the bug report:
- Create a global shortcut of some kind (e.g. F4 to start some app)
- open the shortcut editor in e.g. Dolphin, and try to assign that same
shortcut to some other action the conflict shortcut message dialog should
show a message similar to the one in the attached screenshot at:
  https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454704#c0
The list of GlobalShortcutInfo returned by globalShortcutsByKey() is empty
because the method couldn't be found on the d-bus interface.

After applying patch:
- kill the system /usr/bin/kglobalaccel and start the one from the build
  dir
- Start Dolphin with the libs from the build-dir e.g.:
  LD_LIBRARY_PATH=build-dir/bin/ dolphin
- The info about the global shortcut should be shown in the message dialog

KPropertiesDialog: fix saving changes when editing a .desktop file symlink

Consider the use case of:
/usr/share/applications/foo.desktop is symlink to /opt/someapp/foo.desktop

relativeAppsLocation() was using QFile::canonicalFilePath(), which meant
that foo.desktop would resolve to a file outside /usr/share/applications,
since the code, rightly, expects files in QStandardPaths::ApplicationsLocation
locations, m_sRelativePath would end up being empty, which makes the check in
KFilePropsPlugin::slotCopyFinished() fail, and the .desktop file wouldn't
get copied to ~/.local/share/applications/, and the saving would fail.

kio_filenamesearch: don't use iterators when searching pending dirs

Looking at the backtrace from the bug report, it looks like the vector
could get reallocated when it changes capacity ...etc, which would
invalidate iterators.

Instead use a FIFO std::queue, since ideally the dirs should be searched in
the same order they're added to the pendingDirs container, and then
removed, and removing from the from of a vector is more costly than with a
queue (which uses a std::deque by default).

[kdelibs] [Bug 297003] Newly created text files are not empty

2022-06-14 Thread Ahmad Samir
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=297003

- Changing the contents of the new text file template based on the extension
would make the code more complex
- The experience would be a bit confusing, you create a "new file" and
sometimes it has a " \n" and sometimes not
- A file without an extension and 0 size has mimetype application/x-zerosize,
and a blank icon

The default template should cater to the typical use case, i.e. a user who
wants to create a simple text file.

Note that you can customize the behaviour:
- Copy
https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kio/-/blob/master/src/new_file_templates/TextFile.desktop
to the templates dir (by default it's ~/Templates)
- create a dir ~/Templates/.source/, and inside it create a "Text File.txt"
file, put whatever text you want there or make it blank ...etc.

KNewFileMenu will pick that ~/Templates/TextFile.desktop over the one baked
into KIO (as a QResource).

Git commit c070f3338da63feb0f81170608f9c5de76f98e3c by Ahmad Samir.
Committed on 14/06/2022 at 12:00.
Pushed by ahmadsamir into branch 'master'.

Adjust repo's own includes

Use ForwardingHeaders for public headers.

Also only explicitly add the ForwardingHeader dir added to the target
include dirs; because KDECMakeSettings from ECM already sets
CMAKE_INCLUDE_CURRENT_DIR_IN_INTERFACE, so no need to duplicate that
thanks, to Friedrich W. H. Kossebau for pointing that out.

The backtrace in comment#6 looks slightly different than the one from
comment#0, could be two separate issues... the problem is the backtrace from
comment#0 is not complete due to missing debug symbols.

I tried reproducing this issue, and it happened 1-2 times, but I failed to make
crash again.

This *might* be related:
https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kio/-/merge_requests/977 (it makes sense to
parent the widgets to the dialog, not to its parent anyway). The question is,
why is this happening only now when this code has been around for ages?

Typical use-case:
- the user tries to Trash some file, which fails due to size constraints

[kwayland-integration] [Bug 447538] On Wayland, Kate doesn't prefer opening files in an instance on the current virtual desktop

2024-03-05 Thread Ahmad Samir
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=447538

I don't know much about Wayland; so here is an observation, assuming there is a
kate instance on the current virtual desktop, and focus stealing prevention is
set to none:
- Ctrl+Clicking in konsole opens the file in that kate instance and activates
the window
- From that konsole window, using `kate /path/to/some/file`, the file is opened
in kate, but the window isn't activated, and the task manager highlights the
kate window as requesting attention
