[systemsettings] [Bug 496830] UX/Accessibility: there should be synthetic larger sizes for all cursor themes to use
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=496830 --- Comment #6 from Ellie --- (A small side that I forgot: especially pixelated retro pixel cursors, like old Windows or Amiga cursors, are most likely never going to switch to an SVG format since that seems somewhat unnatural. I'm not saying it's technically impossible to embed such bitmaps in SVG, but rather that I don't think many theme creator will think to do so just for better accessibility.) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 496870] New: feature request - global slider for brightness
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=496870 Bug ID: 496870 Summary: feature request - global slider for brightness Classification: Plasma Product: plasmashell Version: master Platform: Other OS: Other Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Brightness and Color Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: m...@hartmark.se CC: natalie_clar...@yahoo.de Target Milestone: 1.0 I love the new per monitor brightness slider. I would like to have a merged slider that controls the brightness globally. >From my understanding of human light perception is that the brightness sensitivity is non-linear, similar to out hearing. So monitors map this non-linear curve to a linear curve with a value between 0 and 100, where the perceived brightness difference would be the same if changing from 10 to 12 than 90 to 92. I think the are three types of scenarios here. 1. The monitors are of same brand or have 1to1 mapping of the brightness level so 42 on monitor is perceived as same brightness as 42 on the same monitor. In this scenario it makes sense to just link the level of brightness together so increasing by one increases by one on both and vice versa on decreased brightness. 2. The monitors have different brightness levels, either that the monitor are less bright due to hardware limitations or that the manufacturer has a different curve. So for example 42 is 60 on the other monitor. Here's it's more tricky to implement a global adjustment. One naive implementation would be to just change value proportionally using a factor. And if one monitor reaches 0 or 100 no further adjustment is possible. 3. This is for me a scenario that is unlikely, the user want for some reason have different perceived brightness of their monitor. I vote for this scenario to be unsupported unless someone have a good reason for it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 496861] New: Cursor sizes seem to be a mess and almost always too tiny
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=496861 Bug ID: 496861 Summary: Cursor sizes seem to be a mess and almost always too tiny Classification: Plasma Product: plasmashell Version: 6.2.4 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: e...@horse64.org CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk Target Milestone: 1.0 Created attachment 176238 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=176238&action=edit Screenshot 1 (Plasma 6.0.5) SUMMARY Cursor sizes seem to be a mess and almost always to be too tiny. I have two KDE machines, I attached screenshots from both of them. The cursor size varies wildly depending from application to application, sometimes even using the wrong cursor bitmap. And even when the cursor is on the plasma task bar, where I assume it is easier to display correctly, it seems to be wrong and too small on one computer. Since it's also not possible to set a custom cursor scale as a user to work around this ( https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=496830 ) this seems to be an accessibility problem. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Use a white cursor theme to see where apps might revert to wrong cursor bitmaps 2. See screenshots OBSERVED RESULT See screenshots EXPECTED RESULT Cursor size is the same as in screenshot 1, not like in all other screenshots. Screenshot 1+2 are plasma 6.0.5 on machine 1, and screenshot 3+4 is plasma 6.2.4 on machine 2, so regarding size this seems to have gotten even worse with newer plasma versions with new plasma showing an apparently wrong cursor size even on the task bar. In the interim, I reinstalled my system (Plasma 6.1.5 on Manjaro) and, this morning, updated to Plasma 6.2.4 (on X11). I then caused my system to crash again, as before, before looking closer at my 'Link to Application-, only to discover that I never specified that the script should run in the terminal (Konsole). Upon specifying that the script should run in the terminal, it worked as expected. Maybe it still qualifies as a bug since, if there's no direction that the script should run in the terminal, my system crashes. Many thanks, and kind regards. When trying to adjust brightness using the GUI slider, no actual brightness change occurs. The system log shows repeated messages "ignoring brightness change, it's coming from the applet itself". Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot system 2. Try to adjust brightness using the KDE brightness slider 3. Observe that the slider moves but has no effect on screen brightness Expected Behavior: Moving the brightness slider should change the screen brightness. Actual Behavior: - The slider moves but does not affect brightness - System logs show "ignoring brightness change, it's coming from the applet itself" - PowerDevil logs show "Failed to initialize callback" Workaround: Brightness can be successfully controlled using the command line tool 'brightnessctl', confirming that hardware brightness control is working properly. What happens is she moves the mouse over the icon and she does not see the light blue frame around it and clicking has no effect. You and me would probably automatically wiggle the mouse and that solves it but she just waits, after a while it does become active (probably because she moves the mouse a bit) and clicks do register. [kmymoney] [Bug 415614] .kmy file contains invalid characters
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=415614 --- Comment #3 from Alan Prescott --- We're going back a fair way but ... It was a character value 0 `chr(0)` and KMyMoney worked successfully with the file. Looking though my KMyMoney folder I found a saved file from that time and I've tried to open it with qxmledit and get the same bad character error message. I've tried the same with a more recent .kmy file (yes, I'm still using it, happily, thanks) with no problems so it was probably a one-off. I think I reported this mainly because I couldn't think of a way of accidentally embedding a non-printable ASCII character in an XML file - OK so Ctrl-V followed by a control char keystroke (like Ctrl-G etc) during text input works in a tty, but I don't think even that works for `chr(0)` :-) If nobody else has reported this as a problem I'd guess you can ignore it. Thanks for getting back to me :-) Alan Prescott alanjpresc...@gmail.com On Sun, 1 Dec 2024 at 03:33, Jack wrote: > https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=415614 > > Jack changed: > >What|Removed |Added > > > Resolution|--- |WAITINGFORINFO > Status|REPORTED|NEEDSINFO > > --- Comment #2 from Jack --- > I just found this bug report, no idea how it completely slipped through the > cracks. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485927 n.parka...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||n.parka...@gmail.com --- Comment #9 from n.parka...@gmail.com --- It looks like these animations are all being driven by QUnifiedTimer, which uses a shared global tick, and the tick interval just defaults to 16ms. And if some component ends up calling QUnifiedTimer::setTimingInterval(), it would affect other animations since it's shared. It might explain why it fixes itself sometimes. If I apply the attached patch to qt6-base to change to default tick interval to 6ms, all the animations look smooth on my 144hz display (overview effect, system settings scrolling, the smooth scrolling in okular). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
