SUMMARY [plasma-desktop] 5.21.4-1 Preview of keyboard layout with tastenbrett 1.0 displays wrong character. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/fr, replace a key code by "dead_abovering" (see my /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/fr file, modified from original.) line 88: key { [ equal, plus, braceright, dead_abovering ] }; 2. in kde-plasma, launch /usr/bin/systemsettings5 → Input Devices → Keyboard → Layouts → select fr → variant Français (obsolète, variante) → press "preview" (that launches /usr/bin/tastenbrett --model asus_laptop --layout fr --variant latin9 --options -title Français \(obsolète, variante\)) OBSERVED RESULT → TASTENBRETT 1.0 SHOWS "Ú" (Unicode U+DA (hexa)) for key { [ equal, plus, braceright, dead_abovering ] }; → BUT USING KEYBOARD WITH THIS LAYOUT, YOU GET dead_abovering. What do you mean by "quit"? Does it mute? Could you please check what's happening using the pavucontrol tool? When you start it, it will have a first tab, called "Playback"[1] in English. As Kaffeine internally use libvlc for audio/video, you should see something similar to "VLC media player (LibVLC 3.x.x.x)". At the same line, there's a speaker icon. If clicked (pavucontorl changes the background color to indicate), the audio is muted. The line below should show you the volume setting from Kaffeine app. Please notice that the "Output Devices" will have another button and another volume. If either one of the buttons is pressed, you won't hear anything. The same happens if the volume is zero. [plasmashell] [Bug 423526] "Switch user" functionality has disappeared from Kicker and Kickoff
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=423526 --- Comment #46 from Wolfgang Bauer --- (In reply to PGillespie from comment #43) > Forgive my ignorance, but will this fix be backported to 5.18.x? Or will the > fix only apply to 5.20.3? > Am currently on Kubuntu 20.04 with version 5.18.5. And what systemd version does Kubuntu 20.04 have? According to my testing on the upcoming openSUSE Leap 15.3 (which has Plasma 5.18 and systemd 246), the only change needed to fix the problem there is the commit referenced in bug#42, otherwise things seem to work well. But it seems Ubuntu 20.04 has systemd 245 (can you confirm?). From what I understand that might have had a "bug" that broke the deprecated GetSessionByPID function (seems to be fixed again in 246), so probably the fix from comment#10 (https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/commit/bb7b1226e65f533e21145b03047bfef604232323) would be needed as well (and https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/commit/f6269cadde64ac535092a74cb4fc493cc25014fe to fix it again for older versions). [Akonadi] [Bug 386985] akonadi CalDav resource not synching with certain servers
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=386985 --- Comment #53 from Rigo Wenning --- As I noted in a comment to another bug. I've been using korganizer and kdepim/kontact since over 20 years now. This bug is absolutely critical as nextcloud is the way linux users try to avoid the all-google. While trying to fix one of the many times when sync stopped to work, I killed my entire professional calendar on nextcloud. While kontact remains one of the most user friendly personal information managers, the backend connections are extremely poorly maintained. Don't blame the akonadi-system itself. The devs just don't want to touch the hard probs. The conduits from CalDav, the imap implementation etc would need A LOT of love before kontact could become usable again. As does the sync between file system and akonadi-database. (Why not abandon file system sync and offer backup-export? Or at least offer to manually trigger file sync.) In my desperation, I switched to evolution. Usability kind of works, but is burdensome. Meanwhile the backend hasn't deceived me a single time. And this is crucial if you're dependent on email and calendar for work. Like most of us. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[digikam] [Bug 436526] New: Potential Serious Error in Colour management settings
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436526 Bug ID: 436526 Summary: Potential Serious Error in Colour management settings Product: digikam Version: 7.2.0 Platform: Microsoft Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Status: REPORTED Severity: major Priority: NOR Component: ColorManagement Assignee: digikam-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: ipdouglas2...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- The Colour (color) Management settings in Digikam correctly allow the editor to permit a number of 'standard' settings. e.g. sRGB or AdobeRGB or ProPhotoRGB. This is correct. However the monitor profile should be set to whatever the Windows System is using (which for keen photographers is likely to be a custom profile set following profiling with a device). The setting for the monitor appears to only allow similar settings to the editor but this is incorrect. The monitor should be set the the Windows system profile whatever that is. STEPS TO REPRODUCE Go to Digikam 7.2.0 settings 'colour management' to view. OBSERVED RESULT Unlikely that immediately observed results would be obvious but this prevents keen photographers from adopting Digikam as a serious editor and likley would lead to it being 'hammered' in any technical review online or in a magazine if I am correct in my affirmation. EXPECTED RESULT The fix would be industry standard consistent colour management and accurate colours between profiled and managed devices. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: Pro 64 latest version as of day reported ADDITIONAL INFORMATION It is not impossible that I am wrong but I think I am correct here and hope I am as I feel Digikam is a fabulous piece of software with (unusually for Linux developers lol) has a great UI. Well, it does work fine here. I have another idea though: I do remember bug reports where ibus interfered with KDE's keyboard settings. I have no idea whether it also changes the NumLock state, but maybe that would be a possible reason? I.e. do you have ibus installed? And does it help to uninstall it? [krita] [Bug 436525] Isolate selected layer causing "Layer Styles" to De-Activate
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436525 Dmitry Kazakov changed: What|Removed |Added CC||dimul...@gmail.com --- Comment #1 from Dmitry Kazakov --- The problem here is that the layer styles do not belong to the layer itself. They are rendered above and below the layer. More than that, some of the layer styles explicitly need a "backdrop", that is, the blended result of all the background layers. When rendered without backdroup they would look very different. See, for example, "Outer Glow" style. So, personally, I'm not sure that people will get much if we explicitly implement showing the layer style in the isolated mode. [systemsettings] [Bug 431292] KCM formats/language should install language-pack-${LANG} and then run "sudo apt install `check-language-support`" on debian-based distro to complete language support
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=431292 --- Comment #12 from Harald Sitter --- Related: https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/merge_requests/560 I'm not quite sure how the Formats KCM factors into this though. It doesn't really need language-support, what it needs is locale definitions and I believe those only need compiling via locale-gen (which in turn is simply a wrapper for localedef). Someone would need to do research how all this ought to __actually__ work. Like, currently the formats KCM models QLocale's locale list but I'm sure that internally relies on Qt's embedded locale data not the system's theoretically generatable ones (/usr/share/i18n/locales). Then the locales need generating if they don't already exist (locale -a). Once the locale is generated it'd need adding to some file in /etc presumably (locale.gen?) https://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man1/locale.1.html https://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man1/localedef.1.html https://www.unix.com/man-page/linux/8/locale-gen/ https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/locale https://github.com/systemd/systemd/blob/5efbd0bf897a990ebe43d7dc69141d87c404ac9a/src/locale/localed.c#L440 >From glancing over the documention I don't expect the formats KCM needs distro specific code at all, it just needs to actually wire into the system-level locale infrastructure properly via a privileged kauth helper. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[frameworks-kio] [Bug 398908] Dolphin uses up huge amounts of memory
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=398908 Harald Sitter changed: What|Removed |Added CC||kdelibs-b...@kde.org, ||sit...@kde.org Status|REOPENED|CONFIRMED Component|general |general Assignee|dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org |kio-bugs-n...@kde.org Version|18.08.0 |git master Product|dolphin |frameworks-kio --- Comment #84 from Harald Sitter --- There are at least two problems here. a) when we try to determine the mimetype of a file it runs through MimeTypeFinderJob which effectively calls ::get() on the backing KIO worker, that function then sends the mimetype and starts reading the file. This is problematic because it reads data we never need, wasting energy on entirely pointless data copying from disk to worker memory, to socket, to client memory. In case throughput is large enough (which it can easily be with e.g. nvme drives) this effectively reads the entire file into memory while mimetype reading is going on, causing a **temporary** spike in consumption. This is fairly horrible and really needs to be changed for the sake of the planet. b) Something then gets confused and doesn't detect the memory getting freed. I say confused because according to the heaptrack recording of comment #82 the actual user space heap returns to 10mib. I do however definitely see the smaps file in /proc reporting a much larger heap. My theory here is that this actually is connected to a). The way I understand it the TransferJob inside the MimeTypeFinderJob would get discarded when the MimeTypeFinderJob finishes. My theory is that this then leads to the socket that was talking to the worker to have dangling data in kernel space. i.e. the socket has pending data that we'll never (?) read. I'll move the bug to KIO for further inspection. My recommendation would be to split mimetype detection away form ::get() and then see where we are at. Chances are this fixes b) implicitly because the kio worker wouldn't keep streaming useless data that can get stuck in the pipes. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[korganizer] [Bug 428665] subscribing and syncing to remote dynamic ics web calendar not possible
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=428665 James Cain changed: What|Removed |Added CC||dequ...@mykolab.com --- Comment #4 from James Cain --- Off topic perhaps, so please remove if appropriate. You can, AFAICT, specify a URL in the .ics file dialogue window that opens, which will load the remote calendar and add both the calendar and an akonadi resource for the remote calendar. As mentioned, on the second tab of the folder properties dialogue, one can specify the update interval. It remains to be seem on my system if this is working, however I can confirm that manually updating the folder DOES work. [dolphin] [Bug 436501] Cache mechanism in Dolphin is making it completely unreliable.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436501 --- Comment #5 from Leinier Cruz Salfran --- Hello. I made a compound of my bad experiences with Dolphin. I made emphasis on this because this is happening right now and I consider it is a serious thing because it is related to the files of the persons. The video was just something I made in order to illustrate that I'm telling the truth about the bad decision of implement the cache system on Dolphin. That "cache" is the reason of the bad and serious things that is happening right now. I'm sure that if you carefully read the report you then you will realize that we are talking about something that must not be taken lightly. I make this question to you: Since how long are you receiving complains about things that is not working or working bad in which the "cache" is involved? The first time I detected Dolphin didn't copied some files was several years ago, but I wasn't sure and I didn't pay serious attention to that at the time, but now, with what I showed in the video and the report of my cousin, I considered it is the time to do things correctly and that's why I made this report. Please, take this seriously. REMOVE COMPLETELY the cache system from Dolphin. Let Dolphin execute all the actions he needs whenever he needs. Today's hard disks are fast enough and it will be no performance impact and Dolphin will be reliable and trustworthy. I wrote enough. If you need further assistance then write to me, otherwise, you can close this ticket. I hope the Dolphin team evaluate this and take this seriously. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

There were none of those "something went wrong" messages so I guess it worked correctly? > Does your problem happen if you remove second system tray? I was able to reproduce it (after some persuading) even for a fresh user. > Can you try different scenarios? I'm completely out of clues :( Don't worry about it. I've been thinking... would it make any sense for me to try to debug it myself? I mean going step by step over the code, watching the data structure that holds the systray data along the way and waiting for it to get broken at some point? I'd obviously need a nudge in the right direction from you as to where in the code to start etc. But I'm a bit of a developer myself (mostly just PHP these days), even though I haven't touched c/c++ in a quite some time and don't believe I've ever done any sort of debugging in gdb yet. Fix font size in files created in Krita 4.4 Now when loading a file created in Krita 4.4 we convert its font sizes using the DPI of the dispaly and bake this new value into the file. The user can override this behavior by selecting another DPI in Settings->General->Miscelaneous->Font DPI workaround. Setting this value to 72 DPI will effectively disable any scaling.
