[dolphin] [Bug 400647] New: Inline rename context menu
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=400647 Bug ID: 400647 Summary: Inline rename context menu Product: dolphin Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: view-engine: general Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: msdobre...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Merge the right click context menu and the spelling context menu when inline renaming. STEPS TO REPRODUCE OBSERVED RESULT EXPECTED RESULT 1. Have a text in the clipboard to be inserted into a file name 2. Take a file having word separators in the name, like spaces or dots, for instance named "aaa bbb ccc.txt". 3. Left-click/press F2 on it, to enter the inline renaming mode. 4. While in renaming mode, left-click on some part of the file name, to deselect the text in the name (that is done in the first place). 5. Left-click before a part of the file name, right after some word separator, for instance, in the example above, after the space and before the word "bbb". 6. A spelling menu appears, proposing words like "bob", "BBS", options like "Ignore", Add to Dictionary". 7. As effect, no paste from clipboard option is present. Here, pasting from clipboard could be done from the keyboard only, by using Ctrl+V. 8. If right-clicking right after a word in the file name, like "aaa", a different context menu appears, allowing to paste in the file name, for instance ("Undo"/"Redo"/"Cut"/"Copy"/"Paste"/ etc.). Similar cases could be added for different intended commands. Additionally, if spell checking is intended, "Paste" command it's not enough, if context menus are merged. In this case, "Paste" would insert the clipboard content at the caret, regardless the selection, "Replace" would be a command to replace the selection done automatically by Dolphin when right clicking in front of a word. The idea here is to have all the operations in the context menu available at any time. I use this every day, lately, so it's at least annoying. After I put onto the timeline in a picture that size matches the project setting everting works fine. Workaround: make sure all clips and picture matches the project settings size before you put it on the timeline. Make the picture of the arrow as big as your project settings are and work with an alpha channel to hide not needed picture area. [kdeconnect] [Bug 400649] New: no write access to external SD card
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=400649 Bug ID: 400649 Summary: no write access to external SD card Product: kdeconnect Version: 1.8 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: android-application Assignee: albertv...@gmail.com Reporter: der-waldsch...@gmx.de Target Milestone: --- Reading from SD card is possible, but NOT writing on Huawei P10 with Android 8.0.0.376. Phone's internal memory works as expected. I've been using KDEconnect for years, currently with Kubuntu 16.04 LTS. After switching from Samsung S6 (no external SD card possible) to Huawei P10 (with SD card in) I noticed that I cannot WRITE to the card. Writing to INTERNAL memory works, READING from _external_ card too. Same behavior with my Huawei Mediapad M3 (Android 7). I updated the Android App regularly from Google, updated KDE components from PPA because Kubuntu didn't offer updates for a long time. IMHO this is a problem of the android part of kdeconnect; and it's very similar to bug 336043 (I noticed the same as in comment #78) STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. pair Android device with PC as usual 2. click KDE-Connect icon, then click "explore device" (*) on the right border 3. navigate to external SD card, e.g. folder Music 4. try to write some data (*) maybe it's called different, I'm usually using german language I tried to reproduce this with a Samsung Galaxy S7, but on this device I get not a bit access to ANY memory (I'll report another bug for this) OBSERVED RESULT Error message: /home/user/.config/kdeconnect/.../filename can not be written [try again] [cancel] EXPECTED RESULT write data ;-) SOFTWARE VERSIONS KDE Plasma Version: 5.5.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 4:15.12.3-0ubuntu1 (?) [frameworks-ktexteditor] [Bug 400632] Improve exception safety with smart pointers
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=400632 Dominik Haumann changed: What|Removed |Added Status|REPORTED|RESOLVED Resolution|--- |NOT A BUG --- Comment #1 from Dominik Haumann --- The question is what specific problem is addressed with such a potential change? And the next one, even if we use a unique_ptr and an exception happens, who will catch the exception? In the Qt and KDE world exceptions are pretty much not used at all. So if an exception is thrown and no one catches it, the application will crash just like before. Using a std::unique_ptr is certainly good practice in certain contexts, e.g. when using the pimpl approach (the d-pointers). Besides that, it is also common in Qt to have the parent/child hierarchy, so many objects' lifetime is managed by the parent QObject; in this case we do not need a unique_ptr at all typically. Since there is no particular issue here at hand that needs a fix, I'll close as "not a bug" for now. If you have patches for KSyntaxHighlighting, KTextEditor, or Kate, please contact us again best on http://phabricator.kde.org, or for bugs of course here via the bug tracker :-) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

I hope someone will pick this up sooner or later. If I compare it > > with Kubuntu 18.10 with backports ppa the OS base is definitely older > > (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS) in NEON. I am going to check the other parts. > One of KDE Connect's goals is to be distribution- and desktop-environment- > independent, so I wouldn't describe it as being "integral" to Plasma 5 or > Plasma 5 being integral to KDE Connect, even though we do integrate nicely > with Plasma. Thanks Simon for the explanation. I really thought Kdeconnect is a Plasma application an part of Plasma. The name of the product was the cause I think. I respect your great work with this great app. I don't use Neon as my daily driver either, as the KDE team states it's not quite a distro . They needed a stable base (Ubuntu LTS) for the latest KDE software to be built on. The first minor versions of a new release is always full of bugs , but the last builds were OK and very fine for daily use. The current version 5.14 is expecting 3 more bugfix releases in the upcoming months and compared to Kubuntu I can use more up-to-date KDE Software. For example Debian Stretch has Plasma 5.8.9 ; Kubuntu 18.04 LTS has Plasma 5.12.6 LTS ; Kubuntu 18.10 has Plasma 5.13.5 and with backports enabled 5.14.2 , but the KDE Applications is still older (18.04) compared to NEON (18.08.2). The interesting thing is Arch / Manjaro is also on the latest of everything and this bug does not exist there. Nathan Graham stated the following in his blog regarding 5.14 : https://pointieststick.wordpress.com/2018/10/14/this-week-in-usability-productivity-part-40/ "We apologize for these bugs and we’re working to get them fixed quickly! One of the reasons why bugs like this squeak through is that we don’t have enough pre-release QA testers. You could be one of them, and next week, your name could be in this list! Just check out https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved, and find out how you can help be a part of something that really matters. You don’t have to already be a programmer. I wasn’t when I got started. Try it, you’ll like it! We don’t bite!" It would be really nice if one you could test Neon VM and get in contact with the Neon team what's going on ;) Many thanks. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[frameworks-ktexteditor] [Bug 400632] Improve exception safety with smart pointers
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=400632 Christoph Cullmann changed: What|Removed |Added CC||cullm...@kde.org --- Comment #3 from Christoph Cullmann --- Hi, exception safety is of no concern for us. If any of the standard functions throws (like e.g. new), we can't recover anyways and the standard handler will abort (or we will crash). The same holds for any out-of-bounds/... errors, they shall terminate. We don't use exceptions for recoverable error handling. If you take a look at what Qt promises, it is more or less the same on the level beyond pure containers. http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/exceptionsafety.html On the other side, I have no issues with improving the use of raw pointers. I can agree that the guidelines to avoid them and wrap them in zero-cost unique_ptr's for example if feasible sounds ok. For example m_macros = new Macros(); m_mappings = new Mappings(); m_registers = new Registers(); m_searchHistory = new History(); m_replaceHistory = new History(); in GlobalState looks like such a case. On the other side, I am not sure why this things are not just in-place members, which would avoid the heap-allocation. (perhaps to hide them from the header, but given this is a purely internal class, I would not mind that being changed). If you have time to do such cleanups, which lead to less potential memory handling errors, any patch on http://phabricator.kde.org is welcome. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Why? We don't use exceptions, like a lot of other software projects. See e.g. LLVM/clang's stance for this http://llvm.org/docs/CodingStandards.html#do-not-use-rtti-or-exceptions As we don't use them nor do we use any libraries that emit any exceptions that we want to catch, it is totally valid to not care for them. Even if we would need to catch some emitted by low-level libraries, one should do that directly at the call-sites to encapsule that. 0% of the code in KTextEditor is prepared to be interrupted by exceptions, it makes no sense to no start to pseudo-care for that at a few locations. I see value in making code easier to maintain for things we need to take care of, e.g. resource management via smart pointers, doing locking via mutex lockers and not manual lock/unlock, > > On the other side, I am not sure why this things are not just in-place > > members, > > which would avoid the heap-allocation. > Would you like to reduce dynamic memory allocation instead? This is almost certainly due to a .kdenlive project file which got corrupted (I'm seeing warnings from https://thediveo.github.io/kdenlive-project-analyzer/kdenlive-project-analyzer.html), but right now it means that that entire project (which I have spent months working on) is completely unusable because it immediately crashes kdenlive on load. I don't want to move to 18.08.x yet because IIRC it's still in beta and I need something relatively stable. The naive fix would be to make Timeline::getTracksInfo() check for this situation and handle it gracefully, e.g. simply by skipping any value of i for which Timeline::track(i) returns nullptr. However grepping for "track(i)->" in timeline.cpp shows very many other code paths susceptible to this same bug. So rather than having to fix every single one of these, perhaps it would be safer to change Timeline::track() so that rather than returning nullptr, it emits a warning explaining which track index number was missing, and also what m_tracks.count() and tracksCount() evaluate to, to make it easier to spot discrepancies between the two. And that gives rise to the question: why are two different values being used for iterating this list of tracks? That seems to be the root of this problem. [plasmashell] [Bug 400661] New: Lock widgets by default or let Show Desktop be on the right-most side of the panel
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=400661 Bug ID: 400661 Summary: Lock widgets by default or let Show Desktop be on the right-most side of the panel Product: plasmashell Version: 5.14.0 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: Panel Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: codestr...@posteo.org Target Milestone: 1.0 Created attachment 116079 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=116079&action=edit Unlocked panel with Show Desktop widget Currently, by default the widgets are unlocked which makes a burger menu appear on the right side of the panel. In case Bug 381295 - "Move Show Desktop widget to core and out of plasma-addons, and add it to the panel by default" - gets implemented, this would result in this situation: 1. On the right side of the Show Desktop widget will be the burger menu (see screenshot). Which means: dragging a file from Dolphin and move the mouse over the lower-right corner of the panel to minimize all windows will not work anymore. 2. Because of unlocked widgets, dragging a file from Dolphin over the panel will cause the panel to accept the file a drop target (unless the mouse is exactly over the Show Desktop widget). Possible solutions: lock widgets by default or let the Show Desktop widget be placed on the right side of the burger menu. (Personal favorite: lock the widgets by default; because the new users I know tend to stick with the desktop defaults as they concentrate on other things first). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

We do, but as said, any exceptions that will be emitted there will always lead to program abort for us, as we can't handle them anyways. See below > I suggest to reconsider such a view once more. > Would you like to be prepared for “std::bad_alloc” (as a well-known example)? That is a good example for 1) we can't do anything then anyways, there is really no way to handle that in a sane way for a GUI application beside just die, which happens without any special handling 2) you will get that close to never, as e.g. Linux over-commits, you will just later silently segfault (and yes, that is the cruel reality, in my daily work I must always cope with that) Same holds for any of the other exceptions e.g. std::vector might throw for out-of-bounds accesses. It's perfectly fine to abort, we can't handle that anyways, if we could, we shall have already done an out-of-bound check before. (like we do in many places) > Interruptions can occur. I guess that it can become more important if > reasonable program behaviour is provided also in exceptional software > situations. => As told above: Interruptions can only for occur situations in which we don't care, as we will die anyways. [kwin] [Bug 389665] Rotating screen doesn't work on wayland
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=389665 --- Comment #20 from selene.n...@gmail.com --- (In reply to Martin Flöser from comment #19) > I created a patch to support rotating the CRTC instead of the layer. > Unfortunately my system reports no supported rotations on the CRTC. It would > be appreciated if someone could test whether my patch improves the > situation: https://phabricator.kde.org/D16630 I tested the patch, but the problem is still there. (I turned off the KDE debug messages and couldn't find the way to turn on them again, so I'm not sure whether my system supports CRTC rotation.) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[ring-kde] [Bug 400605] Dial tones do not always work when dialing voicemail mailbox
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=400605 --- Comment #9 from jesse.b...@gmail.com --- looking more at the dring.yml file that you suggested, it appears that the gui is not actually saving the DTMF setting. In my working config the dring.yml is correctly showing dtmfType: oversip In the config that is not working, the gui is showing "Over SIP", but when checking the dring.yml, it still shows dtmfType: overrtp changing this in the gui does not keep "Over RTP", but seems to default to it in the config. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
