Could you give some more details, such as what the patch does, which
version it's based on etc?

How can I use AUTH proxying with timsieved

2001-03-26 Thread Ralf Haferkamp

Hi,

I am trying to use AUTH proxying with timsieved. As far as I understand it
I have to use at least the PLAIN SASL mechanism to use AUTH proxying.
But by default the LOGIN mechanism is used.

I am using the managesieve Perl modules to access the server. How can I
tell them to use the PLAIN mechanism.
Cyrus-imapd version: 2.0.12

BTW: If I use use sasldb for password verification and DIGEST-MD5 for
authentication it works well. But I have to use pam for my application so I
am stuck with PLAIN authentication, right?

Can you please provide more information on how this would work. What are the
'cyrus cache files' and what is their format?

BTW, I would back up Walter's suggestion to leave IMAP out of the loop if
all you need is a mail store for webmail. We used to use MySQL as our
message store and it was faster and easier than IMAP. We eventually switched
to IMAP so that our users could get offline access too, but it was a
performance hit.

The "secure" authentication in OE is Microsoft's secure "version" of
authentication, which of course only works with Microsoft mail servers.
Turn it off. We use stunnel on the server to tunnnel the IMAP connection
through SSL. There is even a checkbox in OE to activate this.

I've never heard of being able to store all folders (including Inbox) at
the same level in Cyrus unless :

- you are running Cyrus as an administrative user, which lets you create
folders anywhere you want. Running IMAP clients as an administrative
users is generally not a good idea

- you are not running a Cyrus server.

Tom

If you are using a Linux system, see if you have disallowed
connectivity to your "imapd" on your imap server. May not be
specifically for "imapd" but for all services. Check the
entries in /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny.

Re: Period in mailbox names (again)

2001-03-26 Thread David Fuchs

Alfred,

I created the patch for cyrus-imapd version 2.0.11. It works on 2.0.12
as well, which is the version of Cyrus that I'm currently using.

All the patch does is convert any references to a dot (.) into a slash
(/) in the mailbox names. Once the patch is installed, you need to refer
to your mailboxes with "user/" rather than "user."

For instance:

cyradm> cm user/david.fuchs

cyradm> cm user/david.fuchs/cyrus.cache
createmailbox: System I/O error

cyradm> cm user/david.fuchs/testbox
cyradm> cm user/david.fuchs/test.box2

As you can see, you can create mailboxes with dots in the name, as long
as they don't conflict with other pre-defined filenames (such as
cyrus.cache, cyrus.index etc).

tls_ca_file: /var/ssl/certs/server.pem
tls_ca_path: /var/ssl/certs

I'm just guessing, but maybe you have made a mistake installing OpenSSL.
As of OpenSSL 0.9.6 it only creates the static libs by default, maybe you
want
to check this.
Another issue is to check the .shlibs you're using. Wrong shlibs sometimes
cause such errors (and segfaults)

How does this work of you want to create a folder
with a '/' in the name?

Sounds like we've still got a reserved character that can't
be in folder names.

Re: Period in mailbox names (again)

2001-03-26 Thread David Fuchs

That's a good point, you can't create a mailbox/subfolder that has a
slash in it. I've found, however, that the ability to have a dot
outweighs the loss of the slash.

If you want you could simply edit the patch, it's basically a unified
diff so you shouldn't have any problem going through it and changing the
slashes to any other character you want. =)

Makefile for db-3.2.9+cyrus-sasl-1.5.24+cyrus-imapd-2.0.12 (avoiding signaled to death by 11)

2001-03-26 Thread Atif Ghaffar

Hi all.
Even though, I have done a few installations, of Cyrus, I always get
into trouble with mislinked db libraries or forge the flags that I
should pass to the Makefiles or forget the URL from where to download
Berkeley DB etc.

So to make my life easier, I have done a small Makefile that downloads
and install BerkeleyDB, SASL libs and Cyrus IMAP server.
It may be of use to others, so it is attached with this mail.

Here is what I do to make my Cyrus installation.
mkdir /usr/src/cyrus
cp /tmp/Makefile (the attached Makefile) /usr/src/cyrus
cd /usr/src/cyrus
make

:) it works for me.

I have tried this on SuSE-7.0 and SuSE-6.4
YMMV

Feel free to make modifications etc to taste.

best regards

Why would you want to have a "/" in the username?

Re: install problem

2001-03-26 Thread unplug

Yeah, I am using redhat linux6.1.
I have check that the files /etc/hosts.allow & /etc/hosts.deny are
empty.
Below is the config in /etc/services
imap143/tcp
pop3110/tcp

/etc/inet.conf
imapstream tcp nowait cyrus/usr/cyrus/bin/imapd imapd
pop3stream tcp nowait cyrus /usr/cyrus/bin/pop3dpop3d

display of netstat
tcp0 0 *:pop3 *:*
LISTEN
tcp0 0 *:imap *:*
LISTEN

[cyrus@mail cyrus]$ imtest -m login localhost
C: C01 CAPABILITY
failure: prot layer failure

As you can see, the services of imap & pop3 are running but I donno why
it
can't be connected.

Any idea??

imaps - intermittent connection failures

2001-03-26 Thread Darren Nickerson

Folks,

I'm unable to get cyrus-imapd's SSL support to offer reliable service, and I
was wondering if anyone might recognize the problem. Essentially every SECOND
connection to imaps fails. My test case is fetchmail client connection to
imaps, but I see the problem with Outlook 2000 as well.

When the connection fails, it looks like:

fetchmail: awakened by User defined signal 1
fetchmail: background fetchmail at 28206 awakened.
fetchmail: awakened at Mon, 26 Mar 2001 20:43:22 -0500 (EST)
fetchmail: 5.5.0 querying some.host.iworkwell.com (protocol IMAP) at Mon, 26

fetchmail: fetchmail: sleeping at Mon, 26 Mar 2001 20:43:22 -0500 (EST)

Whereas when it succeeds:

I'm hoping there's a "me too" out there . . . does this look familar to anyone?

Re: install problem

2001-03-26 Thread Seva Adari

The latest version of imapd gets built with tcpwrapper library
and hence you don't need to list it in /etc/inetd.conf.

You would have to provide more details about your configuration
and compilation options used, etc. If you are using "PAM" check
if you have a config file setup for imap service in /etc/pam.d.

Any messages in imapd.log? Have you tried running the core through a
debugger?

Cyrus + IMAPS

2001-03-26 Thread Justin R. Miller

Hi,

Quick question about IMAPS. I currently use stunnel to bridge ports 993
and 143 to provide for IMAPS. The only problem is with an
SMTP-after-AUTH setup that I've rigged (smtp-poplock actually). It
regex's the imapd.log to collect IP addresses to allow. But since IMAPS
users through stunnel appear to come from 127.0.0.1, this does me no
good as far as SMTP allowing is concerned.

I know that Cyrus 2.x supports IMAPS natively, but I do not wish to
upgrade to it at this time. I've tried stunnel via inetd too with the
same problem. Does anyone have any clues as to how I can get around
this?

TIA,

-Justin
