DO NOT REPLY [Bug 49834] New: HttpSessionListener is not getting called after user session timeouts

2010-08-27 Thread bugzilla
https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=49834

Summary: HttpSessionListener is not getting called after user
session timeouts
   Product: Tomcat 5
   Version: 5.5.25
  Platform: Sun
OS/Version: Solaris
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P2
 Component: Servlet & JSP API
AssignedTo: dev@tomcat.apache.org
ReportedBy: brijesh.wa...@comit.ch
CC: brijesh.wa...@comit.ch

Hello,

We are using a simple HttpSessionListener with sessionDestroyed method.
However, we noticed that SessionDestroyed method is not called for all users
after user session timeouts. We have placed a System.out.println in method to
know for which users the event is getting called, but not all users listener is
called. Unfortunately we do not have exact steps of replication because there
is not pattern found for this issue.

Is this a bug? Is thhis resolved with later release of tomcat.

Regards
Brijesh

My thoughts are:

1. I do not mind advertising jcp.org

2. Unfortunately jcp.org pages are hard to understand for a newcomer.
It is actually not our problem, but the problem of the JSR website.

E.g., in this case for the Servlet spec two pages are important
[1] http://jcp.org/aboutJava/communityprocess/final/jsr315/index.html
[2] http://jcp.org/en/jsr/summary?id=315

[1] provides download of the spec, but the problem is that
- There is no description,
- It is hard to navigate further. I do not see there any direct link
to [2]. Maybe someone has better eyes?

[2] provides the description, but
- It is the same page for the whole lifetime of a JSR. You have to
know what to download: a "Final Release", or some "Maintenance
Release" (JSP 2.2 is actually MR of JSR 245).

So I think that while a link to [1] should be enough, it might be
better to mention both [1] and [2].

3. It came to my mind, that not only those two specs might be
important, but also some others, like the ones mentioned here:
http://markmail.org/message/olpuftjrqhcfk3vb

Maybe create a Wiki page to list the relevant specification links? (I
don't have time now, but maybe later).

Best regards,
Konstantin Kolinko

That's a good idea! Yes, the JCP pages are hard to use. An intermediate
page can contain several links and a short explanatory hint for all
relevant Specs. Good thing.

[Tomcat Wiki] Update of "Specifications" by RainerJung

Dear Wiki user,

  ## page was copied from TomcatVersions
  = Overview =
- This page provides a high-level view of each of the past, current and planned
major Tomcat versions.
+ This page provides a list of API specifications which are implemented by
Tomcat.

- The way Apache is structured and governed it is impossible to say that there
will be no further enhancements, bug fixes or releases for a given version.
Therefore, rather than use "No" in the tables below "Highly unlikely" has been
used. That said, highly unlikely means exactly that and users of versions that
are highly unlikely to see another release, even for security fixes, should
consider moving to a later version.
+ The specifications are developed and maintained by the
[[http://www.jcp.org/|Java Community Process (JCP)]]. The members of the JCP
are coming from software industry, other organizations like the Apache Software
Foundation (ASF), educational institutions but include also indivual (personal)
members.

- It is anticipated that releases will be provided for a maximum of 3 major
versions at any one time.
+ Each specifications starts its life as a so-called Java Specification Request
JSR. The JSRs are also known by the unique number they receive once the
specification process starts. On the web site of the JCP you can find an
overview page for each spec, and a separate download page. The download page
lists various stages of each spec reflecting the development process of JCP
specs. Examples are "Early Draft Review", "Public Final Draft" and "Final
Release". You'd like to make sure, you always access the latest documents.

I started a page at

I have to stop editing now, but everybody feel free to improve the page.

Short question: how is the Java trademark handled in the Tomcat Wiki?
Any standard way?

Oops, I think I must have missed that. I haven't reviewed the other code in
those classes -- just your patch file. If you've found all the places where
"session" and/or "id" (or even ";") exist in those files, then you should be
good.

Timing of 5.5.next?

2010-08-27 Thread Mark Thomas
There was a packaging error in 5.5.31 that will need a 5.5.31 as well as
a handful of bugs reported. I have proposed patches for all of the
outstanding 5.5.x bugs.

Jim - might you have time to roll a 5.5.31 release in the near(ish) future?

All - the patches need a few more votes. Any time you can spare would be
much appreciated.

Mark

DO NOT REPLY [Bug 44448] Invalid Response if HTTP Status = 304

2010-08-27 Thread bugzilla
https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=8

--- Comment #5 from Volker Kleinschmidt

(In reply to comment #4)

The problem isn't with a response header stating the body size is greater than
0, the problem is with actually sending a response body when there shouldn't be
one for a 304 request.

According to the Mozilla bug details, this is only being seen when compression
is enabled, and the body is actually a gzipped version of nothing - so this
appears to rather be a bug in mod_gzip.
