If you have installed the Base, log in as root and mount the
nfs-server. After that, rund dselect und choose local-install

Re: How do I create a mirror from my CDs

2002-11-26 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello,

Where is the problem ???

0) use mc to copy the CD's

1) Copy a cd to the Harddisk
2) remove all TRANS.TLB files
3) remove all Packages.gz files NOT the Packages files !!!

mount the second CD

4) Copy the CD to the Harddisk
5) If mc warn you about the Packages file, say APPEND !!!
6) remove all TRANS.TLB files
7) remove all Packages.gz files NOT the Packages files !!!

Repeet the las section for the other 5 CD's

Now make from the Packages files the packages,gz files

Point your ftpd, httpd and nfsd to the Ropt of your Mirror.

Mount from an other Machine the Mirror and make an 'apt-get update'...

I have done this with the WOODY CD's from www.lob.de and it works
quiet well. But I have changed the 'pool' from ./pool to
./debin/dists/3.0r0/pool and I have repaced the Filename: string
in the Packages file to correspod with the new location.

You do not need 'umsdos'.

Create a file with

'dd if=/dev/zero of=./image.bin bs=1k count=65536'
(count is your Maximum size in kBytes)
and then make

'mkfs.minix ./image.bin'
(or ext2 if bigger then 64 MByte)

mount it als loopdevice like

'mount -t minix ./image.bi /mnt -o loop'
(or ext2 if bigger then 64 MByte)

Install your Sytem on it (with the right patrameters (inclusive mbr)

Now copy it to the Windows Partition and setup loadlin, to load the
Linux-Image

Michelle

P.S.: There is a Howto, how to make this.

I think, if you live in the USA it is correct.

use the Package 'localepurge' to remove it.

Then use dselect, and if you are in the 'Select' menu with all the
Packages, Press ' + R' to deselect the selections of dselect.

Now REMOVE with '_' all Packes you do not need like

groff-base, man, man-db, ppp, pppconfig, pppoe, pppoeconf

Do you work with the 2.4.XX Kernel ??? REMOVE 'ipchains'

Do you need 'iptables' ?

If you do not need exim (+1200kB) on your system, install ssmtp
(8kB), which will automaticly deinstall exim.

To find some unused libs, install deborphan, to find them.

Compile your own Kernel only with the options you need, and without
modules support (all compiled in). Do not use intrd so you can
remove the 'initrd-tools' and REMOVE 'modconf' with 2916 kByte.

I had installed the base of WOODY and striped down from 64 MByte to
35 MBytes. Enough space on my Conner 210 MByte to install other
stuff...

Good Luck

Hi, I do not understand this, because all of my Debian-i386-CD's

>How do I do a net install of Debian on this computer?

I think, you must install the first base from thr 26 floppy-disks...
Or if you can, download the drivers.tgz and base3_0.tar to your
harddisk, make the rescue and the root Floppy and install your stuff.

After this, install the kernel-source-2-4-19 and its depencies and
make your own Kernel.

Please note, that the 26 Floppys for the Base support the 3Com NIC !!!

Be careful with 'wav', becaus you can use pcmdvi compression,
which reduce the size about 70% (and if you play it, it will
decompressed On-The-Fly)

>> compress a sample of the file (first and last 4k blocks maybe?)

I think, it depends on the filesystem...
If you have made a filesystem with blocks of 4 kByte, it is better,
you compress only files bigger then 4096 Bytes...

I use 16kByte blocks on my /home and 8kByte for the maildir.

If your MUA supports (de)compression on the fly for maildir,
you can beefit, if you use 1 kByte blocks and use bz2.

This month has already 4556 messages and only 217 files are bigger
then 1 kByte bz2 compressed...

>Or tar them up and compress the whole thing. If you have a lot of
>little text files, or a lot of little wavs, you'll save a lot of space

If you setup a new Computer, maybe it is better you plan correctly
the partitions and the filesystem...

Michelle

P.S.: The user-maildirs in /home are symlinks to the Partition
with the 1 kBlocks.

Thats right, becasuse /dev/cdrom is only a symbolic link !

Look for your cdrom in /var/log/messages

If your cdrom is on the same cable with the Harddisk, the cdrom is
'dev/hdb'. If it is on the second cable, it is '/dev/hdc' or '/dev/hdd'

and then make a 'ln -s /dev/hdX /dev/cdrom' where the 'X' is the letter
for your CD-Rom.

You can setup your '~/.bash_logout' (for the bash) or
'~/.logout' (for tcsh) file. But with 'clear' yo clear
only the current screen, but you can scroll back...

currently I am lookig for the page, because YOU CAN shape incomming
traffic.

For example: You can have an ADSL with 8 MBit, but ich you use an
old 386/40 you will get only 1/2 MBit. So you must slow down the
tcp protocol ore something like this...

I have had for some month a Link how to do this with Kernel 2.4.XX

I have tried this too, but with errormessages.

BUT, if you create the /var directory in it with the right files
for apt it will work, Because it needs a real installation (even

The easiest way is to use mc. ;-))

1) Open the *.deb in mc
2) Create a directory, whereever you want,
3) Copy all the stuff from the *.deb to the Directoy
4) Make your changes
5) Use debhelper to pack it again.

Read the man and doc to debhelper

Right,

I have had tried to install SLINK 4 or 5 times without success.
I have printouts of more then 30 HOWTO's but it does not help.

I have had coosen the basic installation for a Workstation but
they do not work whatever I do.

I do not understand the error messages and I do not know how to
interpret them.

I can not printout anything and po to the Mailing-List, because
the printer (Epson LQ-500) is not installabel and my WfW311
Workstation is the same computer like the SLINK.

I have many frustrations.

[Email Converter] Eudora 3.06 (Windows) to Linux ...

1999-08-07 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello,

I am using a Workstation on WfW 3.11 with my E-Mailer Eudora 3.06.

Now I upgrade to a Debian 2.1 Workstation and I like to keep all
E-Mails (around 300 MBytes) from my Windows Workstation.

Disk space is no problem !!!
What is with E-Mail clients which user compressed Mail-Folder ???

OK, curently I have no XFree86 or anything else (only the base
installation) and I do not know, which E-Mail program I can/must use.

But I need a very good E-Mail client with the functionality of Eudora.

Note, that I like to install XFree86.
But curently I get one million errors while installing !!!

I am looking for a Mail-Folder converter.

Please can anyone help me, because I am newbie
and use it since some month only .

Thanks for your help

[Debian: Back-Up] How to back up ???

1999-08-07 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello to all.

I have installed the base of Debian 2.1 and it works.

Hmm, I have done this on the same machine several times,
because I have installed some programs and crashed the full system !!!

Now my question:How can I back-up the Installation ???
I have a SCSI controller AIC 6x60 with a ZIP-Drive.
My harddisk is a IBM DTTA 351680 (Ultra-ATA)
Previously I will install not more then the 'Base',
XFree86, StarOffice, a very good E-Mail client and
the development source for 'The Linux Router Project'

I think, If I use the LRP-Floppy as Back-Up helper
it is enough. For the Back-Up program I have around
250 KByte.

The back-up DATA can be stored on the ZIP-Drive.
Possible I will upgrade to the new 250 MB ZIP-Drive.
Or I use a LS-120. So I can store the LRP, BAck-Up
program and the Back-Up Data on one Disk, which is
bootable.

I am thinking on one or more (smaller and better to handle) TGZ files
for the Structur.

Please can anyone help me ???

I have a very good experience with ZIPed OS because I develop under
WfW 3.11 (Winblow9x od NT not required) and I have crashed my workstation
100 or more times.

Sometimes I have restored my Development Workstation 2 or 3 times a day.

Many thans for your help in advance

[Debian: XFree86] Newbie trouble

1999-08-07 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello and good day to all,

I have the 4-CD Debian 2.1 Distribution and tied to install a
Workstation with XFree86 around 8 or 10 times without success.

I know all of my hardware, addresses, IRQ's, type of graphic
card, SCSI controller, ...

What can you suggest me to do ???

And then:   I have a VB 4.0 and Borland c++ 4.0 development
Workstation running on WfW 3.11. I have crashed
and destucted the Workstation several times.

So I had created a bootable LS-120 and had ZIPed
The windows with all stuff on it.

Now if I crash them, deltree c:\*.* and unzip the
LS-120 and all works fine again

How about Linux ???

I have the LRP idiot image which can be the base for a LS-120 and
then I need to know, which dierctory must be TGZed to back-up.

Please, can anyone HELP ME to do that ???

I am NEWBIE and I do not like to install all the stuff every time
new if I destruct it.

This is, because I think, I will install the 'base' of Debian 2.1,
back up to LS-120 and the I try to install only XFree86 and if it
running I make a new back-up.

After this I can try out the rest to install.

Many thanks for your Help

[Debian: XFree86] Minimal requirements

1999-08-07 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello,

It is possible to install Debian 2.1 and XFree86 on a
LS-120/ZIP-Disk without any grapic card depencies ???

I like to use the installation on different computers
with different graphic cards.

Possible with different NIC's too.

Thanks in advance

[Debian: Install] In relation to Debian FAQ 9.4

1999-08-07 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello,

I have a question in relation to the Debian FAQ:

9.4 How can I get/install the Debian from a set of floppy disks?

I had read the complete FAQ but I do not find a answer.

OK, I have splitted a package in smaler parts (dpkg-split)
and copied them to three Floppys.

Now I want to know, how to install this 3 Floppys on my machine.

What must I do with dpkg ???

Must I copy the files first onto my machine and un-split them or...???

Thanks for your help in advance

Please read the StarOffice-HowTo.
It will explain all.

Oh yes, if you do not know how to find the Howto,
go to http://ftpsearch.lycos.com/ and search for 'staroffice'

For me it is enough, if I can run it in VGA mode and 256 colors.
This will work NORMALY (what is normaly ???) with ALL graphiccards
but I have no experience to do that

1999-08-08 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello,

I was thinking, that there is a possibility that I do not must
copy all splitted files to my harddrive and the unspülit them.

Oh yes, some of the machines working stand allone without a network.

Only the 'base', XFree86 and StarOffice.
And then the Computers are without CD-Rom or ZIP-Disk
(no place because it is a Slim-Line and the harddisks are only 350 MB).

Maybe I will install a LS-120 but curently I have no 90 US$ to do that.

[Debian: Install] Can not boot from harddisk

1999-08-08 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello,

for some minutes I have installed the base system from floppy.
Because I get the Mitsumi CD FX-400 not running.

After installation I had removed the floppy from the drive and
rebooted.

The Hardware is OK, but at startup I get:

IDE Drive 1 support PIO mode 3 data transfer
1FA:

...and hangs.

I get not more as the '1FA:'

If I boot from the Floppy (created by the setup) it will boot,
but it takes about 4 miutes to boot from Floppy.

Please can anyone help me ???

I had the 'boot from harddisk' error on ALL of my system
but I do not know why.

[Debian: Install] Harddisk partitioning

1999-08-13 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello,

I have a IBM DAQA 33240 with 3095 MByte.

Now I like to install Debian 2.1 on it but I do not know,
in which partitions.

My problem is, that I do not know the size of the root and use prtition,
because I need to install many source for compiling and Software development.

Where must I put all the source codes ???
In the root partition or usr partition ???

My Harddisk table curently is:

hda1Fat16 WfW 3.11 250 MByte
 (needed for compatib.) :-((

hda2Fat16 DR-Dos 7.03 TCP/IP + DJGPP 250 MByte

hda3Linux83 Boot/Root 1500 MByte

hda4Linux82 Swap 200 MByte

hda5Linux83 /usr/ 900 MByte

It is better to put the source codes on a seperatly partition ???
Possible a new Harddisk ???
The other question is, MUST I store the source codes on my Harddisk ???
I have this question, because I have two ZIP drives with 100/250 MByte,
a SyQuest SQ3270 and possible in some month a DVD-Ram.

I need to install following binarys:

1) Debian 2.1
2) XFree86
3) KDE 1.1.1
4) StarOffice (Possible the Pro version
5) Netscape
6) Pine
7) Software for Audio sampling,... (SB 64 AWE PnP)
Any recommandations for a better Soundcard or
Audiosystem are welcome.
Must work with Yamaha keyboards.
8) Graphic Software(Proffessional)
9) Software for Video sampling,...
Any recommandations for Video cards are welcome.
I need S-VHS and possible two Video-Tapes.
   10) CD-Burner Software

A) Personal secure HTTP server and secure FTP server
For the HTTP I like to use Appache but can
anyone recommend a secure FTP server???
I need the two servers urgently.

X) Source codes

Many thanks for your Help in advance

Webmistress Michelle

I will be very happy, if I have my Main-Workstation on Linux and
NOT WfW 3.11 which is neccesarily for the Work and some Clients.

Fortunately I do not need the Win9x/2000.

Multi-Boot-Loader

1999-08-21 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello,

Curently I am working with a workstation under Dos622/WfW311 (hda1 = c),
Dr-Dos703/DJGPP (hda2 = d) and Debian Linux 2.1 (hda3-5)

I can boot WfW311 as default and must use a bootdisk to get DJGPP or
Linux running.

Please can anyone recommend a Multi-Boot-Loader so that I do not must
use Boot-Floppys ???

I have tried some from SimTel, but they are a little Bit too crappy.
I need a maxiumum of 4 different Operating Systems

Michelle

Re: Multi-Boot Problem

1999-08-22 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello,

I have the same problem, but I have two partitions for Dos/Dr-Dos and
then Linux like:

hda1c: Dos 6.22 + WfW 3.11
hda2d: DR-Dos 7.03 with TCPIP and DJGPP

hda3Linux-Root/Boot
hda4Linux-Swap
hda5Linux-User

I have tried to boot with LILO but I can boot the hda1 (c:) only.

If I like to boot hda2 (d:) I get "Starting Caldera DR-Dos" and
the computer hangs.

If I like to boot Linux 2.1 I get "LI" and the computer hangs.

Can anyone help me too ???

Thanks in advance
Michelle

Oh yes, I have forgotten a question:

I have some Harddisks and it is better, if I install the Dos/WfW and
DR-Dos on seperatld harddisks like:

(Conner CFP 850A)
hda1c: Dos 6.22 + WfW 3.11

(Conner CFP 210)
hdb1d: DR-Dos 7.03 with TCPIP and DJGPP

(IBM DAQA 33240)
hdc1Linux-Root/Boot 1200 MB
hdc2Linux-Swap 100 MB
hdc3Linux-User 1795 MB

[Debian: Install] SCSI-Controller with AIC 6x60

1999-08-29 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello,

I have tried it again to install the BASE of Debian 2.1 from Floppy.
OK, it works.

But now I must install the SCSI-Controller AH1502 (AIC 6x60).

In the BASE installation is no option to select Adaptec controller.
How can I install it ???

I have this question, because the controller is non-bootable and has
only my CD-Rom, ZIP-Drive, CD-Burner, DAT and DVD-Ram.

My Linux is on a EIDE-Harddisk.

Without my CD I can not continue with the installation.

Thanks in advance

Michelle

[Debian: Grafikkarte] 3Dfx (MAXI Gamer 3D)

1999-08-30 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello Pinguins,

nice Weekbeginning to all.

Today I have found a 3Dfx graphic card in my miracle sack
(NIC's, graphic cards, IOcontoler, SCSI,...) and I do not know,
what I can do with it.

OK, on the card is written:

MAXI Gamer 3D
Super Video 3D Accelerator Board
45 millionen pixels/sec
GT M 94V-0
EV-3DFX-4

So my problem is, that I have no Windows driver for it,
which I must habe because I am using a system with Multiboot.

Can anyone tell me more about this card ???

Currently I am using the 'miroCrystal 40 sv' which works very good,
but the 3Dfx und mor then 2 years younger and it will have more Power.

The 8 Memory chips are as4c256k16e0-50 and so I ask me, is it a 4 MB Card.

And can anyone tell me more about the Power of this graphic card ???

Why does the 'MAXI Gamer 3D' have a VGA-Input and a VGA-Output
(all Sub-D 9 pol) ???

Does anyone have WfW 3.11 driver for it ???

Annd which VGA server must I use with Debian/DLD ???

Chiao and Thanks

Michelle

[Debian: Directorys] /user/ on external Server

1999-09-05 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello,

I have a problem with my Disk-Space on my Workstation and now I have four
Workstations (DLD, Debian, DR-Dos/DJGPP and WfW).

Now I like to install a big File-Server in my private network (not the
FTP/NFS-Server in my Public-Network).

It must contain the /user/... Directorys.

Also a problem is, that in the next time 4-10 persons are working on it.
Each has a personal data between 400MByte and 1 GByte.

As File-Server I can use my AMD K5-133 and one IBM DTTA 351680.
But what software I must use ???

Oh jes, at login on my workstation, the appropiated /user/ directory must
be auto-mounted on the File-Server.

Thanks for your Help

[Linux: CD] How to make ???

1999-09-22 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello and nice day,

I like to burn a CD and like to know, what files I need to burn
on the CD, because it must be lite with the following Programs:

Basic-Installation
FVWM
KDE
Netscape
Pine
StarOffice
FTP-Client ???
GIMP
(If you have some additional Ideas, please...)

My problem is, that I have not moe as 250 MByte free because on
the CD is FreeDos with DJGPP and some Windows Development Software.

Oh yes, also I have a Web-Site of around 100 MByte for Off-Line reading.

Webmistress Michelle

P.S.: On a second CD I like to burn ONLY the Development stuff.
I like to get Infos from you.

Re: [Linux: CD] How to make ???

1999-09-22 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello,

with 'Lite' I mean if I run 'install.bat' or 'deselect' that I have
not to choose from around 2700 packages. I will make it simpel because
I am in creation of 'InterLUGfG' which means 'International Linux User
Group for Girls' in Strasbourg.

And I like to make a CD with the minimum for learning and fast installation.
I have downloaded StarOffice and it is around 75 MByte.

And yes, the licences...
There is a problem with the source-codes but I can put it on a second CD

The Licence for StarOffice is checked already with SUN. ;-))

Oh yes, I like to make preselect the deselect for the packages so new
users should choose 'Complete installation' and thats all.

I have ALL availlable HowTo's in english, german, french and italien.
Ther are some dotzend MBytes...

Oh yes, I think I must look at http://www.linuxberg.com/ for some useful
programs and possible some easy to use Servers (all in one solutions).

And then, I have the 4-CD-Set of Debian 2.1 Slink and the girls in my
group are gone confused with all the packages. I think 'cheapbytes' will
be the same as my 4 CD's

Thanks for your answer

Michelle

Hello,

for some days I have goten three messages via the mailinglist "DJGPP"
and "comp.os.msdos.djgpp" from "Endlisnis <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>" with an
UU-Encoded attachement "happy99.exe".

Now I have goten the same UU-Encoded attachement from
"debian-user@lists.debian.org".

Can anyone tell me whats going on ???

This EXE file contains the "W95/Happy99.1.trojan".

I was wondering, that the Virusscanner on my Mail-Server had
deleted the komplett INCOMING-Folder with the Mails.

Then I have goten the E-Mails from a friend with deactivated
Virus-Scanner and I have used the "F-PROT" to scan the files.

This is the result:
===

Virus scanning report - 8. May 1999 17:37

F-PROT 3.04a
SIGN.DEF created 3. February 1999
MACRO.DEF created 29. January 1999

Search: Local hard disks
Action: Automatic disinfection
Files: Standard file extensions
Switches: /ARCHIVE /PACKED /BEEP
No viruses found in memory.
No viruses were found in MBRs or hard disk boot sectors.

Scanning g:\_user\konzack\michelle\eudora\attach
G:\_USER\KONZACK\MICHELLE\EUDORA\ATTACH\HAPPY99.EXE Infection:
W95/Happy99.1.trojan
File deleted.

Suggestion:
===

To protect users and Mail-Systems (!!!) from Viruses disallow Attachements
from a kind oft this one.

With the first sending (from DJ Delorie) of the three messages I have lost
more then 150 Client E-Mails on my Server.

OK, I know, the UU-Encoded File was inside the Body, but this can be scanned
too.

[Linux: SCSI-Controller] LILO with aha152x

1999-10-19 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello and nice afternoon.

OK, now I was able to get my 'stupid' SCSI-Controller running
but only from my Rescue-Disk. :-((

If I start with my Rescue-Disk and I use the following parameter

linux aha152x=0x340,11

it finds my Sony-CD-Rom at ID4.

But if I bot from harddisk the aha152x is not there.

Please can anyone tell me, how I get the prompt at LILO ???

Anyone told me, I must edit /etc/lilo.conf, insert 'prompt' and
then run LILO.

Nothing has changed, but Linux cry for a WD-SCSI-Controller,
but it does not exist.

Oh yes, I have the same problem with ALL distributions like
DLD, RedHat, Debian, SuSe, DosLinux, Slackware, ...

I get tired from this...

Thanks for your Help

Hello and thanks to all, which had helped me.

The entry 'append' was not in the /etc/lilo.conf and I have added
them in a new line as append="aha152x=0x340,11"...
... and it works properly...

But now I can not get my Drives but they are detect correctly as:

Iomega ZIP-Drivesda at scsi0id=5
CD-Rom CDU-76S sr0 at scsi0id=6

The directory /cdrom is allready there and /zip100 I have created.
I had tried to mount the CD-Rom (Whit Debian-CD and DLD-CD) but
it tell me every time that sr0 is unknown.

The same is with my ZIP-Drive sda

What do I wrong ???

1999-10-30 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello and good afternoon,

I am lost !!!

Please help !!!

I have tried again to install Debian 2.1 but now I have a problem
with the configuration of X and can not do anything.

OK, I have installed the Base and some selected tasks inclusive
XFree86 and fvwm2.

While configuration I have selected the Monitor speed (MAG DX 15 F)
and then my graphic card (miro CRYSTAL 49 sv) which is in the menu
and provided by Linux.

Now when I reboot, it waits very lon at a Font-Server and then if the
bootprocess continuses, the monitor flash 2 times and then they go in
Stand-By mode and shut down.

Now I can use Ctrl-ALT-Del only.

Please can you tell me what is the right Monitor setting and how I
can go into my installation because I must do it with a boot disk now.

Note: I use only the resolution 1024 x 768 x 16.7M
The biggest resolution is only used if I use my Hitachi 21"
and then with 1408 x 1024 x 65k

Hello and good day.

You need not more then the following 28 Floppy-Disks

Sorry, I have the Floppy not at me, and I do not know, which libs are on
the last two Floppys.

This is the Minimum, but the full set contains 60 Floppy-Disks ;-))
And I am working on the setup (Pre-Select after the Base-Installation)

I hope this helps

[Debian: Install] How to change the Pre-Select-Script

1999-11-03 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello and good day.

Since Monday I have a Notebook without CD-Rom.
It is a 486dx4-100 with 32 MByte of Ram.

Now I have created 60 Floppy-Disks for a minimal Installation.

My problem is, How can I create a package Database of the Packages
and how can I make the Script, which install it.

I like to Pre-Select (after the Base-Installation)

1) Workstation with Dial-Out
2) Workstation with Network
3) Server
4) Select Tasks

For any help I will be very lucky.

[LRP: DHCPCD] ISP rotate IP-Adresses

1999-11-03 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello,

I have a 2 MBit cable modem with DHCP and my ISP rotate all 3-4 weeks
the IP-Adresses.

How can I check with a simpel and small program that the connection
is broken ??? The program must force the router to rebooting ???

This must be compiled for LRP 2.9.4 (Linux Router Project).

I think, it is good, if the program check the connectivity all 5 or
10 minutes.

Thanks in advance for your help

Webmistress Michelle

If I have a Workstation, then it is no problem,
because I can use the forced restart option.

But I have a Router and the forced restart give me the new IP-Adress,
but my IP-Forwarding rules do not work. So I must reboot the entired system.

This does not work because the IP-Forwarding rules and the variables.

I must detect, that I have no IP-Adress anymore.

If there is a tool like Ping (which is called be cron or anything else)
but which give me an output (if the ping to a specified server fails =
e.g. 195.132.0.193=DHCP-Server de CyberCâble), which I can use to reboot
the Router it will be nice.

Hello,

I do not know, why do you want to create it, because I had bought the
4-CD-Distribution from Debian 2.1 SLINK and there are all on it.
Two CD's are binaries and two CD's are source codes.

Oh yes, I have payed US$ 30,- for the 4 CD's.

for an half hour I had done this with my Workstation and 700 MBytes...
(asked in [EMAIL PROTECTED])

I have used this:

mount /dev/hdb1 /mnt
cp -fpR /usr/src/* /mnt
umount /mnt
rm -fR /usr/src/*
rm -fR /usr/src/.*
mount /dev/hdb1 /usr/src

thats all...

In /etc/fstab I have set my hdb1 like

/dev/hdb1 /usr/srcext2defaults0 2

[Linux: Router] What does I need ???

1999-11-29 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hello and good day.

OK, today in the morning I have downloaded the Base-Installation
of Potato.

Now, my Question is, WHAT DOES I NEED to install a simpel Router ???

I have 5 NIC's 3c509-TPO and a fixed IP-Adress from my Provider (eth0).
The cable modem 2 will be installed next year but I like to install
the Router complete.
A small note: A cable modem can run ONLY 8 fixed IP-Addresses.

eth0Kabel-Modem 1
eth1Kabel-Modem 2 (Not availlable yet)
eth2HUB 1 192.168.1.x public network
eth3HUB 2 192.168.2.x private network
eth4HUB 3 192.168.3.x secure network (Not availlable yet)

Curently I must work with IP-Masquerading only...
...but it runs.

OK, I have a LRP 2.9.4 box running which is based on Debian 2.1 (2.0.36).
I have no knowledge from ipchains and ...

The last weekend I have tried RedHat and DLD but I almost gave me a shoot...

Back to Linux, - Back to Debian !!!

I hope you can help me

Thanks

Michelle

Hello all,

Curently my Server is Off-Line becaue a problem with my
ADSL-Connection...

But I have Websites for SLINK, POTATO, WOODY and SARGE and
for each website a Mailinglist.

I think, named mailinglists like debian-woody are better
then debian-stable because there are some peple which are
running older Hardware and can not install WOODY, SARGE,...

Which mean, that even if someone like to install SLINK on a
486, the Mailinglist will still availlable. For peoples
which are willing to Help it will no problenm, because the
traffic are naturaly decreasing on older Versions...

Greetings
