Bug#894857: plasma-discover: Can't use with LXQt (missing dependencies)

2018-04-04 Thread robert
Package: plasma-discover
Version: 5.12.4-1
Severity: important
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

I want to use plasma-discover with LXQt, but it does not start or does not show
any applications.

So I created this https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=392737 bug report, and
"Nate Graham" told me that Discover should definitely work with other desktop
environments and I am simply experiencing a Debian packaging issue, and so I
opened this bug report here.

Regards,
Robert

Bug#924220: sddm-theme-debian-maui: background-nologo.svg from theme.conf does not exist

2019-03-10 Thread Robert
Package: sddm-theme-debian-maui
Version: 0.18.0-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

"/usr/share/sddm/themes/debian-maui/theme.conf" contains
"background=/usr/share/desktop-base/active-theme/login/background-nologo.svg",
but the "background-nologo.svg" does not exist on a fresh installed debian
testing.

There is only a "background.svg" and a "background-withlogo.svg" under
"/usr/share/desktop-base/active-theme/login/"

Bug#802345: ktuberling: Crash instead of starting

2015-10-19 Thread Robert Gomułka
Package: ktuberling
Version: 4:4.14.0-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
After recent KDE transition ktuberling no longer starts and crashes instead:
carramba@robert-desktop:~$ ktuberling
KCrash: Application 'ktuberling' crashing...
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/drkonqi from kdeinit
KCrash: Connect sock_file=/home/carramba/.kde/socket-robert-desktop/kdeinit4__0
Unable to start Dr. Konqi
Not forwarding the crash to Apport.

It used to work few months ago.
Recently I performed update (not full, there are probably a few system
packages not updated
and it no longer works. The update of KDE wasn't smooth and involved
several `dpkg -r --force-depends` with `apt-get -f install` at the end,
but now apt-get doesn't complain at all. At least some other KDE apps
launch just fine: konqueror, k3b, kfind, knode. Haven't tried other
KDE games, though.
Removing ~/.kde does not help

Reproducible: always

Bug#300156: libarts1: system notifications don't play in arts with "ALSA lib seq_hw.c" error

2005-03-17 Thread Robert King
Package: libarts1
Version: 1.3.2-2
Severity: normal

Using kde 3.3.2-1, after a dist-upgrade in unstable (pure64 AMD64 port),
so sorry I can't track it down to a particular package change, the
following sound bug appeared.

Sound notifications stopped working. On starting kcontrol to
investigate:

Selecting the sound system tab sends this message to stderr:
ALSA lib seq_hw.c:446:(snd_seq_hw_open) open /dev/snd/seq failed: No
such file or directory
handle==0

The "Test Sound" button in kcontrol works, with the following stderr
messages:
server status: busy
real-time status: not started through real-time wrapper
server buffer time: 341.333 ms
buffer size multiplier: 1
minimum stream buffer time: 341.333 ms
auto suspend time: 60 s
audio method: oss
sampling rate: 48000
channels: 2
sample size: 16 bits
duplex: half
device: /dev/dsp
fragments: 16
fragment size: 4096

Change to the system notifications tab
play a sound doesn't work (for ogg or wav - I checked
/usr/share/sounds/KDE_Beep_Ahem.wav
/usr/share/sounds/KDE_Beep_Car.ogg

If I change the action from "play a sound" to "execute a program" and
ask it to execute
/usr/bin/artsplay /usr/share/sounds/KDE_Beep_Ahem.wav

it works fine (so maybe I have filed against the wrong package)

Hope this is enough info ...

Well, the NAME parameter is now OK, but you should do the same for the
the FROM field (or put blanks away as in the destination Fax nummer):

Sending to fax using: /usr/bin/fax NAME="'Robert Cheramy'" DEV='modem'
PAGE='a4' FROM='+49 12 34 56' send  '+49123456'

Bug#307431: kmail: Folder selection by typing name in "move message to folder" broken

2005-05-02 Thread Robert King
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.3.2-3
Severity: normal

I've just upgraded my kdelibs following a debian security announcement,
and the the folder selection by typing its name in the move message to
folder dialogue box has stopped working in kmail.

In the dialogue box now the only keys that have any effect are the arrow
keys and the letter that is the same as the initial letter of the folder
with current focus, which moves to the next folder with that letter, or
if focus is at the last folder with that letter, the next letter will
move the focus on to the first folder with that letter.

JACK 0.100.0 uploaded to unstable, please rebuild

2005-06-27 Thread Robert Jordens
Hello!

I have uploaded jack-audio-connection-kit 0.100.0-2 to unstable. Your
package depending on libjack0.80.0-dev or libjack-dev has to be
recompiled against libjack0.100.0-dev. In a few weeks I'll file bugs
against those packages that have not done so by then.

Thanks!

    Robert.

looking for umbrello sponsor

2003-09-26 Thread Robert Lemmen
hi everyone,

since it looks like kde 3.2 won't make it into sarge i thought about
taking umbrello, a UML modelling tool, out of the current kdesdk cvs and
release it as a independent package.

i think it would be very cool to have umbrello in debian as soon as
possible, as we don't have anything like it right now (except for dia,
which isn't really the same thing and this conceptual modelling thing
that is too academic to work with it). so i talked it over with ben
burton, the kdesdk maintainer and he agreed.

since i am no debian developer i am looking for a sponsor to upload it,
so please have a look:

http://www.semistable.com/files

the package has been tested by a few people besides me and should work
fine.

sorry for asking again, but i can't believe no one wants to take a look
and upload for me. umbrello [0] is a pretty nice UML [1] modelling tool
that has no equivalent in debian and would be a shame to miss. the
packages have been tested by a couple of people besides me and should be
ok. you can get them at:

so please...

Bug#851170: libqt5webengine5: h.264 video does not seem to work

2017-01-12 Thread Robert Cross
Package: libqt5webengine5
Version: 5.7.1+dfsg-4
Severity: normal

Hello, please be gentle as this is my first bug report :)

I'm excited that Qt WebEngine is being packaged, so I could use it with
qutebrowser.

It seems to work beautifully, except that H.264 video is not working.
I've talked to the developer of qutebrowser and he said that qtwebengine
might not be configured to use proprietary codecs (see:
http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qtwebengine-features.html#audio-and-video-codecs )

I know that multimedia codecs can be very hairy things in general, but
I'm hoping that since H.264 is enabled in chromium, that the same can be
done for Qt WebEngine.

Bug#851170: libqt5webengine5: h.264 video does not seem to work

2017-01-12 Thread Robert Cross
(sorry for the double mail Sandro, I am very bad at email!!!)

I'm trying to figure out what exactly use_system_ffmpeg and
use_proprietary_codecs does.

It seems to me that use_system_ffmpeg will do exactly as it sounds and will use
system libav* libraries.

I went and downloaded webengine 5.7 source:
git clone https://code.qt.io/qt/qtwebengine.git -b 5.7

and did some digging in there.

In src/core/renderer/content_renderer_client_qt.cpp I found:

#if defined(USE_PROPRIETARY_CODECS)
info.supported_init_data_types |= media::kInitDataTypeMaskCenc;
info.supported_codecs |= media::EME_CODEC_MP4_ALL;
#endif  // defined(USE_PROPRIETARY_CODECS)

After some searching around, I found that media::EME_CODEC_MP4_ALL is defined
in chromium, see:
https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src.git/+/lkcr/media/base/eme_constants.h

So it looks like to me with my non-expert eyes, that use_proprietary_codecs is
just setting the bits that the underlying browser engine reports that certain
codecs are available to use.

It seems that if you have use_proprietary_codecs and use_system_ffmpeg both on,
it will still delegate the video to the system libraries.

I could be wrong, these are just the results of some preliminary digging!

Bug#726796: lokalize: Places `#, fuzzy' in a wrong place causing msgfmt's syntax errors

2013-10-19 Thread Robert Luberda
Package: lokalize
Version: 4:4.10.5+dfsg-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

When message string contain a comment, lokalize places `fuzzy' marker
after it, which causes any further msg* commands to report `syntax
error'.

Example to reproduce the issue:

Please see the attached file. Before running lokalize, msgfmt displays:
> LC_ALL=C msgfmt --statistics test.po
0 translated messages, 1 fuzzy translation.

Now, please run
> lokalize ./test.po
and do the three following actions inside it:
1. first mark the entry as translated: Edit->Translated->Ready
2. than mark it as untranslated : Edit->Translated->Needs Review
3. finally save the file : File->Save

After doing that msgfmt fails:

> LC_ALL=C msgfmt --statistics test.po
test.po:20:1: syntax error
msgfmt: found 1 fatal err

Bug#1009632: The QPA plugin package contains the TLS backends

2022-04-13 Thread Robert Griebl

Package: qt6-qpa-plugins
Version: 6.2.2

The new Qt6 plugins for the TLS backend (QSslSocket) got packaged with
the QPA plugins, which is a bit awkward if you have a headless daemon
that needs to download from https:// URLs, because you are now pulling
in a lot of X11 and OpenGL dependencies.

I think these should be in their own qt6-tls-plugins package:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt6/plugins/tls/libqcertonlybackend.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt6/plugins/tls/libqopensslbackend.so

And while we're at it: the image format plugins also do not really
belong into the qpa plugin package for the same reasons: you can use
QtGui and the QImage classes perfectly fine in a headless daemon:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt6/plugins/imageformats/libqgif.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt6/plugins/imageformats/libqico.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt6/plugins/imageformats/libqjpeg.so

Thanks for looking into this,
Robert

Bug#1009632: The QPA plugin package contains the TLS backends

Hi Patrick,

Which package name do you suggest ? We already have " qt6-image-formats-
plugins", but that is from the qtimageformats module.

The question is how modular we really want to be here: as gif and jpg
are really standard image formats, I'd rather package those up in the
libqt6gui6 package (as it was done for libqt5gui5).

If you do want to split them off, then it might be something like
"qt6-[base|gui]-image-formats-plugins".
You'd probably have to rename the existing package
("qt6-image-formats-plugins") to "qt6-extra-image-formats-plugins" as
well to avoid confusion.

Hi,

The Debian Qt6 MM packages are not shipping with a cmake config for the
private module "MultimediaQuickPrivate".

While you normally do not have to deal with this private module, you
definitely DO need it when using qmltc to compile QML code using QtMultiMedia
QML types, as qmltc generates code that includes private headers from there:

Failed to find required Qt component "MultimediaQuickPrivate".
[cmake]
[cmake]   Expected Config file at
[cmake]
"/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/cmake/Qt6MultimediaQuickPrivate/Qt6MultimediaQuickPrivateConfig.cmake"
[cmake]   does NOT exist
[cmake]

Thanks for looking into this,
Robert

Bug#1068517: kate: request to backport patch for upstream bug 476307

2024-04-06 Thread Robert Scott
Package: kate
Version: 4:22.12.3-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Upstream bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476307 has been reported
resolved by MR https://invent.kde.org/utilities/kate/-/merge_requests/1441

It would be extremely helpful if you were able to pull the patch back to
bookworm, or at least ensure the fix is included in the next stable, as
the bug causes me pain every day.

This suggests HAVE_VTS macro is not being set. Maybe this helps?

ispell 3.3.02 uploaded to experimental

2011-03-13 Thread Robert Luberda
Hi

I uploaded new, but already 6 years old, upstream version of ispell to
experimental yesterday. Your package either provides ispell-dictionary,
or depends/recommends/suggests/build-depends on ispell, and I'd be glad
if you could spend some time to check if the new version works with your
package.

The dictionaries generated by old version of ispell are not compatible
with the new one, thus all ispell-dictionaries need to be rebuild. If
you are a maintainer of such a dictionary package, please check whether
the dictionary rebuilds fine with the new ispell. If your dictionary
package doesn't use the ispell-autobuildhash method, it will need to be
re-uploaded (with Build-Depends and Depends set to ispell >= 3.3.02)
when new ispell hits unstable.

I'm thinking of uploading the new version to unstable in a week or two
(i.e. 20th or 26th of March). Please report any issues through BTS.

Best Regards,
robert

ispell 3.3.02 uploaded to unstable (was: Re: ispell 3.3.02 uploaded to experimental)

2011-03-29 Thread Robert Luberda
Hi

I've uploaded ispell 3.3.02 to unstable this evening. The version
declares breaks against all arch:any ispell-dictionaries:

Breaks: iamerican (<= 3.1.20.0-9), // Done - build from ispell sources
ibritish (<= 3.1.20.0-9), // Done - build from ispell sources
ibulgarian (<= 3.0-12),
iczech (<= 20040229-5),
idanish (<= 1.6.25-1),
iestonian (<= 1:20030606-12.1),
ifinnish (<= 0.7-17.3),
ifinnish-large (<= 0.7-17.3),
ifrench (<= 1.4-25),// Done - QA upload
ifrench-gut (<= 1:1.0-27),
igaelic (<= 0.50-7),
ihungarian (<= 0.99.4-2),   // Done - QA upload (Ubuntu has 1.2.0,
but most
// probably this version doesn't
work properly even
// with older ispell anyway)
iirish (<= 2.0-20),
iitalian (<= 1:2.3-2),
imanx (<= 0.50-8),
inorwegian (<= 2.0.10-3.2),
iogerman (<= 1:2-26),
ipolish (<= 20100612-1),// Done - my package
irussian (<= 0.99g5-8.1),
iswedish (<= 1.4.5-2),
iukrainian (<= 1.6.0-1)

If your package is on the above list, could you please rebuilt it
against new ispell? Please make sure to declare both Build-Depends, and
Depends on `ispell (>= 3.3.02)'.

Hopefully your packages should rebuild without any troubles. However
please be aware of minor incompatibility in buildhash. The

buildhash ${dict}.dict ${dict}.aff ${dict}.hash

command used to create two additional files i.e. ${dict}.dict.stat and
${dict}.dict.cnt. With the new buildhash:

 - the *.cnt file is gone (if your Makefiles needs it, create it with
`wc -l < ${dict}.dict');

 - the *.stat file is now ${dict}.stat (i.e. the .dict extension got
stripped out).

Oh. I don't know if Debian as a whole cares about ispell. Personally,
I've taken over the package because I actually use ispell (and prefer it
over aspell), and wanted to learn git. Also, according to popcon, ispell
is still a bit more popular than aspell.

Bug#627101:

2011-06-09 Thread Robert Keevil
Package: plasma-desktop
Version: 4:4.6.3-1
Followup-For: Bug #627101

I'm also experiencing this problem. plasma-desktop will start out taking little
CPU usage, but if left for a couple of hours it will be taking anything upto
100%. Killing the process resets this behaviour. The percentage of CPU taken
does not appear to be linear vs the time plasma-desktop has been running - it
seems to be more of an exponential increase.

Running sysprof shows plasma-desktop spending the majority of its time in
KSGRD::SensorAgent::sendRequest() (this is after it starts to act abnormally).
I can provide sysprof logs if required.

Removing the CPU Monitor widget stops the high CPU usage for me.

This bug only seems to exist when systemd is installed (I was using

CPU usage with the monitor widget.

Bug#462638: kstart --iconify kwifimanager does not start kwifimanager iconified

2008-01-26 Thread Robert Derochette
Package: kwifimanager
Version: 4:3.5.8-1
Severity: minor

Hi !

Since I've upgraded KDE to 4.0 from experimental which is now in Sid (so now I
use a mix of 3.5 / 4.0), the command "kstart
--iconify kwifimanager" does not start kwifimanager iconified anymore. The
window appears with its normal size.

This is a bit annoying because I use this command to start kwifimanager
iconified in order to display my WiFi signal stength
in the notification area.

kstart --version outputs the following :

Qt: 4.3.3
KDE: 4.00.00 (KDE 4.0.0)
KStart: kstart version 1.92

For information, kstart --iconify icedove works correctly and also kstart
--iconify konqueror, given my konqueror is still at
version 3.5.8. So I tend to conclude the problem seems specific to kwifimanager
and not to a general behavior of kstart 4.0.0
with KDE 3.5 applications.

Thanks for any help and keep up the good work Debian KDE Team :-)

Regards,

Robert Derochette.

Bug#475333: FTBFS on parallel build (dpkg-buildpackage -j)

2008-04-09 Thread Robert Millan
Package: qt-x11-free
Version: 3.3.8b-5
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Fails to build from source on parallel build (dpkg-buildpackage -j2) due to
a race condition in debian/rules.

The first hunk fixes that, the rest fixes improper use of "make" that discards
make flags, making -j parameter useless.

After last qt4 upgrade with psi (0.11-3 to 0.11-6) PSI started crashing.
Reverting to 0.11-3 did not help. It crashes often, randomly.
I have recorded backtrace, which suggested me it may be something in qt:

Bug#479742: kbabel: Very long window refreshing on long files

2008-05-06 Thread Robert Gomulka
Package: kbabel
Version: 4:3.5.9-1
Severity: normal

When changing virtual desktops in KDE and going back to KBabel's one it
takes reasonable amount of time (a few seconds, e.g 10s) to redraw
KBabel window, during which KBabel is just frozen.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Run KBabel
2. Open a .po file
3. Switch desktop to different one
4. Go back to KBabel's desktop
Now the situation happens.

What can be related to this bug:
1. Size of .po file - the bigger, the longer time is. Not verified,
though.
2. KBabel's database - I can remember that some crashes in KBabel were
fixed after a database directory removal. I can't remember what it was
exactly.

After attaching strace to KBabel it reveals that:

Bug#491837: flash

2008-07-22 Thread Robert Millan
Package: kde
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Now that it seems we finally settled [1] in Debian for including flash
support in the default package selection, I think it'd be nice if KDE
installs came with a native konqueror/kparts module instead of falling
back to mozilla/NSAPI plugin interface.

Currently, konqueror-plugin-gnash seems to be the only package that provides
this kind of integration. May I suggest adding it to the kde metapackage?
(or as a recommends in konqueror package if you find that more suitable).

[1] see #467324

My summary:

  We found savedefault feature to be buggy and dangerous. Because of this it
  is disabled now in update-grub. This problem is most likely just a result
  of kdm enabling it.

  Since this chunk of code is basicaly unmaintained upstream, I don't expect
  that it will be fixed in the Legacy version of GRUB (specially, not in
  time for lenny).

  We intend to re-enable this functionality in GRUB 2 shortly. In the meantime
  I recommend that you avoid using it in GRUB Legacy. For kdm, it'd probably
  be a good idea to disable this feature for now.

Bug#502851: [libsoprano4] Build sesame2 backend

2008-10-20 Thread Robert Wohlrab
Package: libsoprano4
Version: 2.1+dfsg.1-1
Severity: wishlist

I tried to use nepomukserver with kde and had to notice that it was extreme
slow - different to what I experienced on other distributions. The problem is
that it searches for /usr/share/soprano/plugins/*backend.desktop and can only
find the redland backend.

Robert

Hi,

The GRUB feature which kdm relies on is dangerous, buggy, and unsupported by
upstream. kdm would be much better off if it didn't use it.

Bug#553180: [akonadi-server] Looses data

2009-10-29 Thread Robert Wohlrab
Package: akonadi-server
Version: 1.2.1-1
Severity: important

When I add a item to korganizer, close korganizer and logout over kmenu i will
loose my new added entry in 99% of the time. I only have the "Akonadi
Compatibility Resource" with an "ical calender file" and "Birthday &
Anniversaries" subressource. It seems that the file isn't synchronised after
the logout. If I wait some minutes before logout it seems to work as expected
(I can find the entry in my ical file after waiting, but not after direct
logout).

course, I can use ktrace, but that's beside the point).

Bug#340704: rar support violates DFSG #4

2005-11-25 Thread Robert Millan
Package: ark
Severity: serious
Justification: DFSG #4

This package has a "Suggests: rar" tag. If it has the functionality to create
rar archives via rar, this is a serious problem, because it is encouraging users
to create "trap archives" that can't be extracted with free software. I believe
this is a violation of DFSG #4 ("Our priorities are our users and free
software") since we put:

  - A minority of our users (those who use rar to publish data).

before:

  - The majority of our users (who can't extract the data in a pure Debian
system).
  - The free software community, for which trap archive formats are seriously
detrimental.

OTOH, if this package is only using rar to extract these archives, then it'd be
better to use the unrar package instead (in that case severity of this bug
should be lowered).

Hi Steve,

My concern is about the rar writing support itself, not about Suggests. The
Suggests tag is just an indication that either the application supports
generating rar archives (or that there's a mistake, and the maintainer just
mean to suggest "unrar" instead).

> and it is generally considered
> acceptable to Suggest: non-free packages from main anyway.

Well, that's not the problem. If the application needs unrar to extract rar
archives, then suggesting unrar is ok [1]. It's the fact that the application
supports creating rar archives that I believe violates the DFSG.

Does this explanation satisfy you? If it does, I'd like to rise the severity
back to serious (I don't think it's an issue for the release, being only 4
bugs).

OTOH, if you think my interpretation of DFSG is inadequate, I could try to
expose it better, and we could also move this to -legal (perhaps I should have
started there in first place).

Thanks!

[1] In fact, unrar is one of the two non-free packages whose distribution by
  Debian I would personaly endorse.

No. Any of the files created by OOo can be opened with free software (notably,
with OOo itself), so they're not a "trap".

A valid analogy would be like:

  - In the future, we have a package of MS-Office in non-free (MS allowed us to
re-distribute it, etc)
  - Users can create some new "trap format" with it (not unlikely, e.g. [1])
  - Such format can't be opened with free software. Thus:
- We'd be doing a bad service to most of our users, who use OOo/etc
- We'd be harming the free software community as a whole.
(both of these are infractions of DFSG #4 IMHO)

[1] "There are also reports that Microsoft is planning to use patented
extensions to XML as the basis for a future Word format; anyone who
implements free software to read those files could be sued for patent
infringement by Microsoft."

Bug#340704: rar support violates DFSG #4

That suggests if the maintainer disagrees in, say, DFSG #1 ("Debian will remain
100% free"), then we don't have to treat as release-critical an inclussion of
non-free in main.

I think I'll try to expose better my point, and also move it to -legal.

DFSG #4 states:

  "We will be guided by the needs of our users and the free software community.
  We will place their interests first in our priorities."

I think it's very clear that the free software community is harmed by promoting
trap formats like RAR, so I won't extend on that.

For what the needs of our users are concerned, we have basicaly two groups of
users with opposed needs:

  1- A group of users who want to use rar to produce archives.
  2- A group of users who want to extract rar archives produced by the first
one.

Reasons why I think the latter group is much bigger than the first:

  - In case user in group #1 is using RAR for private backups/etc, the technical
disadvantages of using RAR instead of a combination of tar (better
integration with Un*x file metadata) and p7zip (better compression) indicate
this is a minority of users.

  - In case user in group #1 is using RAR for distributing data across the
internet, then for each user doing this, it's logical to expect more than
one user in group #2 will recieve the file and want to extract it.

  - In popcon, unrar is roughly 5/4 times more popular than rar. Although this
info should be taken with a grain of salt, because many users install rar
with the sole purpose of extracting, or simply because it's in Suggests in
the packages that are object of this discussion.

Therefore I don't think we're serving the interests of our users or the free
software community first in our priorities.

Bug#349922: umbrello: role multiplicity indicator in component diagram misplaced

2006-01-25 Thread Robert Lemmen
Package: umbrello
Version: 4:3.5.0-3
Severity: minor

hi everyone,

smallish but annoying bug: the multiplicity indicator does not move with
the end of the association, but around on the screen in a weird way.
steps to reproduce:

- create a new comopnent diagram
- create a component
- create an interface
- create an association between the two
- open the properties of the association
- enter a multiplicity for the interface
- move around the component (ok)
- move around the interface (surprise)

this probably happens in other cases/diagrams as well, i attach a simple
test case

Bug#349923: umbrello: export via cmdline needs X

2006-01-25 Thread Robert Lemmen
Package: umbrello
Version: 4:3.5.0-3
Severity: minor

hi,

umbrello allows the export of diagrams via the commandline with the
--export switch. this is a highly usefull feature missing in many
(expensive) uml modelling programs, just think about auto-generating
documentation from a makefile. unfortunately umbrello does in fact start
up, generate the diagrams and then close down again. which is stupid as
you won't be able to use the interface and it means it requires a
working X to use the commandline options. it would be way cool if this
would work without X! a possibility to just export a single diagram
would be cool as well...

Bug#366176: krita: Krita does not start after installation

2006-05-06 Thread Robert Gomułka
severity 366176 normal
retitle 366176 Krita cannot be started just after fresh install
thanks

For unknown reason I can now start the application. I have done two things in
the meantime:
1. System restart
2. System update/upgrade
I guess the first one fixed problem somehow. But in my opinion it still
exists, but is something different - krita cannot be launched after fresh
installation.

Bug#360445: kbabel: Extra information - patch

2006-06-22 Thread Robert Gomułka
Package: kbabel
Version: 4:3.5.2-1
Followup-For: Bug #360445

Please apply the following patch. For me it does the thing - fixes
problem. I don't know the reason it wasn't applied upstream.
--- KDE/kdesdk/kbabel/kbabel/kbabelview.cpp (révision 532798)

I have just rebuilt the kbabel package, that's why I have 3.5.2-1
instead of +b2 (or sth similar). Please apply means I would like to see
it in Debian patches for upcoming (I hope) 3.5.3 Debian packages,
because I don't know when it will be applied upstream.
The patch comes from http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=116906, its
author is Olivier Trichet.

Bug#372564: When KDE wait for kwalletmanager

2006-07-14 Thread Robert Kolatzek
I have the same problem. I can sometimes logout (not shutdown) from KDE
without problems. If I try to shutdown, kwalletmanager crashs. If he not
crashs, he wait ("ps aux" says as last process: "sleep 5").
So: this "waiting" can make it possible, that system goes down, but X (kdm) is
still active. The message "will now halt shutdown /dev/hda" ist usual 1
second before "power off" - by me there is no "power off".

I see no kwallet icon (only in status bar of konqueror in webbroser mode). If
I click there I see only gray window (no wallets, no white container). And
this window crashs. If I open kwalletmanager after this, I see the wallets
in kwalletmanager window and the icon i the try... (very strange)

I try now to logout without restoring session (for me: not realy a solution)

Bug#386582: please don't assume oss-compatible /dev/dsp is present

2006-09-08 Thread Robert Millan
Package: libarts1c2a
Version: 1.5.4-1
Severity: normal

libarts1c2a seems to require an OSS-compatible /dev/dsp to work. However,
starting
with Linux 2.6 (hence, starting with etch), both libasound2 and /dev/dsp
interfaces [1] are provided, and applications are no longer allowed to assume
a standard /dev/dsp is present.

This situation makes this package become broken for most users (i.e. those who
will install etch, or upgrade from sarge/linux2.4 and no longer have a working
/dev/dsp). I believe libarts1c2a should try to avoid this by enabling OSS
compatibility modules.

Fortunately, you don't need to worry about the details of binding OSS compat
modules to ALSA ones so that they're loaded when and only when ALSA drivers
are in use. The "oss-compat" package has been created with this purpose. You
can add a dependency on "oss-compat" to handle the compatibility for you.

[1] Not directly related to ALSA and OSS driver implementations. Whereas
libasound2 is ALSA-specific, /dev/dsp can be provided by both.

Bug#443953: kdebase: autostart order unreliable

2007-09-24 Thread Robert Gomulka
Package: kdebase

I use xmms for playing music.
I also use xmodmap for registering multimedia keys for my laptop.
xmms is started by automatic session restore, while for xmms I put desktop file
in .kde/Autostart:
$ cat .kde/Autostart/xmodmap.desktop

Exec='/home/carramba/scripts/xmodmap'

StartupNotify=false
Terminal=false
TerminalOptions=
Type=Application
X-DCOP-ServiceType=none
X-KDE-SubstituteUID=false
X-KDE-Username=
X-KDE-autostart-phase=1

But xmodmap is started too late and multimedia keys don't work in xmms.
When I restart xmms manually after, those keys work fine.

Thank you very much for your answer.
Unfortunately, neither method worked.
As for ~/.kde/env. I put my xmodmap.sh file there, set 755
permissions. And it wasn't executed (checked with xmodmap -pke). Then
I executed part of the startkde manually and it worked (checked again
with xmodmap -pke). I don't know the reason. Is startkde executed when
I login using kdm and not invoking startkde?
As for the second solution. I put there following line:
X-KDE-autostart-phase=0
(1 -> 0). And effect was exactly the same - I had to restart xmms in
order to get my multimedia keys working in it.
What do you think about it?

Regards,
Robert

Bug#443953: kdebase: autostart order unreliable

2007-09-25 Thread Robert Gomulka
Update:
my xmodmap.sh from .kde/env is being called during startup (verified
with debugs). But still then after logging in my modifier map looks as
not modified. Executing script for the second time makes things work.
I have no idea why. Other application modifying keys? KDE itself?

Robert

Bug#443953: kdebase: autostart order unreliable

2007-09-28 Thread Robert Gomulka
What I have discovered so far. I have added debugs to xmms-xf86audio,
to functions registering keys:

if ((sym = XStringToKeysym(keystring)) == NoSymbol) {
g_warning(_("XStringToKeysym returned NoSymbol for
%s"), keystring);
return 0;
}
if ((code = XKeysymToKeycode(GDK_DISPLAY(), sym)) == 0) {
g_warning(_("XKeysymToKeycode returned 0 for %s"), keystring);
return 0;
}

g_warning(_("everything fine so far for %s"), keystring);

gdk_error_trap_push();

And watched the .xsession-errors. When xmms was autostarted with KDE
session management:
** WARNING **: XKeysymToKeycode returned 0 for XF86AudioNext
** WARNING **: XKeysymToKeycode returned 0 for XF86AudioPrev
** WARNING **: XKeysymToKeycode returned 0 for XF86AudioPlay
** WARNING **: XKeysymToKeycode returned 0 for XF86AudioStop
** WARNING **: XKeysymToKeycode returned 0 for XF86AudioPause
** WARNING **: everything fine so far for XF86AudioRaiseVolume
** WARNING **: Couldn't grab XF86AudioRaiseVolume: another client may
already have done so
** WARNING **: everything fine so far for XF86AudioLowerVolume
** WARNING **: Couldn't grab XF86AudioLowerVolume: another client may
already have done so
** WARNING **: everything fine so far for XF86AudioMute
** WARNING **: Couldn't grab XF86AudioMute: another client may already
have done so
** WARNING **: everything fine so far for XF86AudioMedia
** WARNING **: Couldn't grab XF86AudioMedia: another client may
already have done so

Then I restarted xmms and watched logs again:
** WARNING **: everything fine so far for XF86AudioNext
** WARNING **: everything fine so far for XF86AudioPrev
** WARNING **: everything fine so far for XF86AudioPlay
** WARNING **: everything fine so far for XF86AudioStop

I'm not interested in mute, lower and raise volume, they are handled
by KDE itself pretty well. But the rest is interesting. It seems that
for some reason XKeysymToKeycode returned 0, that's why those keys
weren't registered further in xmms.

I will try to think about it - I'd appreciate any suggestions.

BTW - Marcin, when executing apt-get build-dep xmms-xf86audio it told
me that it could not met build dependencies for it. I did apt-get
install xmms-dev and it went fine - do you think it's a bug?

Regards,
Robert

Bug#452886: kdegraphics: Version-restricted dependencies cause removal of 150+ packages

2007-11-25 Thread Robert Munyer
Package: kdegraphics
Version: 4:3.5.5-3etch2
Severity: normal

Running aptitude in Etch on SPARC, the keystrokes "uUgg", which usually
just install security updates, now cause removal of over 150 packages
including all of KDE. This is because kde depends on kdegraphics, and
security.debian.org has a recent Etch update of kdegraphics which depends
on (among others) version 4:3.5.5-3etch2 of kamera, which does not exist.

I think this is a near-duplicate of #325254, where Martin Schulze wrote:
> Why the )*(#%$ does a KDE package depend on the exact Debian version
> of another KDE package? That should not be the case in the first place.

The next comment on #325254 seems to indicate that the version-restricted
dependencies were to be removed in the transition to KDE 3.4, but we are
well past that transition, and the version-restricted dependencies are
causing a problem again.

kde buildds screwed?

2004-01-20 Thread Robert Lemmen
hi everyone,

i am trying to update umbrello to the new version, but all the buildds
come up with a weird error [0] about some object not being for this
architecture. this looks a lot like i am doing something wrong or as if
i would ship i386 objects with the package, so i checked everything and
it looks really good to me, plus the changes to the last version (which
built fine) are small and should not lead to such grave problems.

i wanted to build the package myself on a non-i386 architecture, but
debootstrap lookes a bit borked on mipsel, and my sponsor said something
about the buildds being broken for kde builds so i thought i might just
ask here: do you guys know anything about this? anything i can do to
find out more?

Bug#235347: poor package description

2004-02-28 Thread Robert Bihlmeyer
Package: kmilo
Severity: minor

I'm not happy with the KDE ad that is prepended to ever so much KDE
packages ("KDE is a powerful ..."). Perhaps it helps newbies, but when
browsing through k* packages in aptitude this bit gets old fast. It
could definitely benefit from debuzzing, and I'd move it down from the
first paragraph as well.

I could swallow my gripes with this if the package specific paragraph
were a bit more helpful. It's a poor short description, but in the
long description it really leaves too much questions open.

KDE kded hardware support module.

What's kded? It doesn't feature in any other package's description.
What hardware?
Do I need this package? No other package except the task-like kdeutils depends
on it.

Thank you for your time,

I am using krdc without a problem in 3.2.1-1. Some questions that pop
into mind:

1) have you restarted kde session since upgrade?
2) what window manager are you using?
3) Are konnecting to a vnc or rdp server?
4) what earlier kde versions have you had?

1) yes.
2) kwin
3) both
4) 3.2.0-0pre1v1

It doesn't help to move ~/.kde/share/config/krdcrc out of the way. The password
input field is focus, but not possible to write anything to it.

This only happens with my account, if I launch knode from a test
account, I only get the "call to deprecated action." messages.

I think I may have somewhere an old scoring configuration that the new
version of Knode won't understand...

I tried to remove /tmp/kde-tibob/, /var/tmp/kdecache-tibob,
~/.kde/share/config/knoderc and ~/.kde/share/apps/knode but it won't
change anything.

Hope this helps...

Bug#240329: knode package fails to launch - knode wrapper works perfectly

2004-04-18 Thread Robert Cheramy
Package: knode
Version: 4:3.2.2-1
Severity: normal
Followup-For: Bug #240329

Hi,

I spend some time today trying to find where this knode bug could come
from.

While recompiling kdepim with debug options and a few more kdDebug lines
in knode source, I tried to start knode from the object folder :
/usr/src/kdepim-3.2.2/obj-i386-linux/knode

It worked !

The installed deb package still would not start (!)
As you may know, /usr/src/kdepim-3.2.2/obj-i386-linux/knode is a bash
wrapper and the knode I start (/usr/bin/knode) is an ELF excutable.

I rebuilt the packages ifrom scratch to be sure this behaviour is
reproducible with standard packages, and it is.

I have no idea what the wrapper does, and I hope this could be somewhat
useful to you...

Cheers,

tibob

Alt-F2 doesn't work, too. When my focus is on konsole, pressing Alt-F2
causes printing "OQ" character sequence on terminal. (Alt-F1 still
works).
I repeat - it didn't happen before my current KDE version (specified
below).

Bug#245830: strace output

2004-04-25 Thread Robert Gomułka
Actually at the moment my kdesktop hangs always ...
I have to re-launch it to get it to work ...
These are last lines from executing "strace -f kdesktop" and then selecting to
run "kmines":

Bug#245830: kdesktop: consider reassign the bug?

2004-04-28 Thread Robert Gomułka
Package: kdesktop
Version: 4:3.2.2-1
Severity: normal
Followup-For: Bug #245830

I am the bug reporter. I have some extra info about it.
It happens only with launching "kmines". Other apps just work without
problems. That is the reason of my topic - reassigning the bug to
kdegames?

And second thing - when I launch kmines from kdesktop launcher and then
close kmines, kdesktop doesn't hang - it only displays info:
"KDEInit nie może uruchomić '/usr/games/kmines'", what is probably
"KDEInit cannot launch '/usr/games/kmines'". Then I close that pop-up
and everything appears to work.

Regards,
Robert

Bug#247396: kdeprintfax+efax do not support whitespaces in Personal Settings

2004-05-04 Thread Robert Cheramy
Package: kdeprint
Version: 4:3.2.2-1
Severity: important

Hi,

when specifiing a name (Robert Cheramy) or a Faxnumber (+49 711 1200042)
with white spaces and using efax, The arguments are not tansmited well
to efax, and I get folowing error message :

Sending to fax using: /usr/bin/fax NAME='Robert Cheramy' DEV='ttyS0'
PAGE=a4 FROM='+49 711 1200042' send  '0'
'/tmp/kde-tibob/kdeprintfax_NtxQuJHB'
/usr/bin/fax: line 1: Cheramy: command not found
/usr/bin/fax: line 1: 711: command not found

And the Fax headers contain /usr/bin/fax default values.

A quick fix for the end-user is to enter his name and fax number with
double quotes : "Robert Cheramy" and "+49 711 1200042".

I tried to add double quotes around "%user% but it won't help.

I am unsure if this is an efax bug or a kdeprintfax bug, please forgive
me if I am wrong posting it here.

Cheers,

tibob
