Bug#923863: kaddressbook: unnecessary Depends: kdepim-addons, missing Depends: kdepim-runtime

2019-03-06 Thread Martin
Package: kaddressbook
Version 4:18.08.3-2

Dear Maintainer,

this (see subject) seems a slip while resolving Bug #910731. The changelog
entry correctly (aside from two typos "depdends" instead of "depends")
specifies the appropriate dependencies: Depends: kdepim-runtime and
Suggests: kdepim-addons.
I have briefly tested kaddressbook 4:18:08.3-1 to make
sure the basic functionality is working without kdepim-addons.

Regards,
Martin

Bug#301398: kindest Attention

2005-09-28 Thread martin

kindest Attention

I am MR.MARTIN PETER director of operations with Volks Bank in
London,my late customer an expatriate was killed in an unknown circumstances
and before his death he had some unclaimed treasury bills (Bonds) with Volks
Bank in London. I decided to search for any of my late customer's relative
which has been very difficult to me before those treasury bills (Bonds) get
confiscated or declared unserviceable by the bank. In 2002 he invested in
treasury bill bonds here in London in my bank totalling 15.3 million pound
sterlings which was due to be collected in 2004 with acrued dividends.

On my yearly appraisal of my customer at the turn of every year, I
discovered that his investment is overdue for retrieval.I put up series of
mail to Mr George Reid which were sent back uncollected.I later
discovered that He passed on in february 2004.I tried to contact any of his
relatives, hence I decided to contact you to come in as his next of kin.

I will prepare every operation that will assist your claim, The
treasury bills (Bonds) will be released to you within 10 working days after you
have filed in for claims. For your trouble you shall have 35% of the entire
sum. This transaction is 100% risk free and any risks will be on me as the
director of operations so be rest assured.

I would want you to send me your full names your phone number and your mailing
address to enable me talk to you before I send you the
certificate of deposit. As soon as I hear from you, I will send you the
documents and other relevant information relating to this transaction.I beleive
in confidentialy and openess with regard to this transaction.

I will like you to acknowledge the receipt of this e-mail as soon as
possible via my private EMAIL:([EMAIL PROTECTED] ) and treat with absolute

Since an upgrade to version 3.4.2-2 kmail hangs periodically when downloading
mails,
scrolling in the mail folder, sending mails. CPU usage is zero during the hangs.
I have no IMAP folders configured. Only POP3.
The hangs only occur on one machine. On the other machine it works without any
problems.
I disabled arts and now it is a bit better, but still nasty enough to write
this bug report.

After I upgraded to version 3.4.2-2 kmail always hung periodically for a
certain amount
of time. Now I have found out that the cause for these hungs are the search
folders.
When I call: strace -f -e file kmail --nofork
I always get several delayed
lstat64("/home/martin/.kde/share/apps/kmail/search/Letzte Suche.lock.lock",
{st_mode=S_IFREG|0600, st_size=65, ...}) = 0
messages in a sequence, when kmail hangs.
After I deleted the search folders the hangs have gone away.

KDE on Testing after last apt security update

2005-11-08 Thread Martin
I run testing etch on a different machine. Following latest download Monday 7
November, KDE is broken. Windows can no be slid around. Any and all
application window headers and buttons are not present. Konqueror is not
present. Window shading not possible. Configuration tools for KDE do not fix
these problem. Gnome works
OK. I am more used to KDE.

The bug forms do not fit this problem. I will cooperate to answer any
specific questions put to me.

Thanks for all you do.

-- no debconf information
Sometimes when shutting down the PC kaddressbook writes data to std.vcf with
length 0.
Maybe this due to initng, because initng really quickly shuts down the system
and so
maybe some programs do not have enough time to write their data to the disk.
But this is only a guess and it is hard to figure out it because it only happens
seldom (third time since I'm using initng).

Bug#353270: ktip

2006-02-17 Thread Martin
Package: kdebase - ktip
Version: 3.4.0 Level "b"

This (between ... and ... ) appears in a ktip box on kde
startup:
...
You can add your own "Internet Keyword search provider" by selecting
Settings->Configure Konqueror->Enhanced Browsing. Click "Add..." and complete
the fields.
Contributed by Michael Lachmann and Thomas Diehl
..

Three questions about this ktip

1 What is this: "Internet Keyword search provider" ?

2 Where is this: Enhanced Browsing ?

3 Do 1 and 2 refer to some previous version?

One comment about your bug reporting system
The english language instructions are too narrowly technical. They are
using
terminology comprehensible only to debian developers. You are isolating
yourselves from the users who don't understand
debian-speak.

Thank you for your efforts. Please accept this as friendly comment.

Martin

Bug#740511: libqt5core5a: Some (foreign) packages, that depend on libqt5core5 won't install with libqt5core5a

2014-03-02 Thread Martin Lorenz
Package: libqt5core5a
Version: 5.2.0+dfsg-7
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

with the upgrade to libqt5core5a some foreign packages were forced to uninstall
because they depend on libqt5core5.

As far as I understand libqt5core5a ist backward compatible with libqt5core5,
so shoulden't libqt5core5a have a "Provides" tag stating the backwart
compatibility?

Bug#727645: confirm auth on hybernation still happens with current systemd packages

2014-04-28 Thread Martin Steigerwald
Hello!

This still happens with systemd 208-1 from experimental and systemd 204-10.

On selecting hibernation in KDE SC 4.12.3 Kickoff menu it locks the screen
first
and then opens a dialog asking me for confirmation for hibernation.

With my user hat on I just don´t care whose fault it is, it is a clear
regression when I use systemd over init. And as thus please consider to fix it
for good. I certainly won´t put up with this insane behaviour – so there is no
chance that systemd will be my default until this is fixed. There is just *one*
seat in my laptop and my workstation. Anything else is a bug.

As I wrote before tried to apply the work-around Michael proposed in:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=717554#32

As in:

merkaba:~> cat /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-
local.d/org.freedesktop.upower.pkla
[Suspend/hibernate permissions]
Identity=unix-group:sudo
Action=org.freedesktop.upower.hibernate;org.freedesktop.upower.suspend
ResultAny=yes
ResultInactive=yes
ResultActive=yes

with my users in sudo group and still get the annoying error.

So if you want me, and I suppose other KDEusers – or users of any other
desktop environment that appears as more as one seat to systemd – to test
drive systemd and reporting bugs, please consider fixing that bug for good or
at least provide a work-around for now that works.

I am really surprised that this IMHO release-critical bug – which sane person
would put up with such a behavior? – has not been fixed *before* systemd is
made default in unstable.

Ciao,

I saw this behavior as well yesterday on my private dovecot pop3 and 30-
day imap setup (limited on server to 30 days with find -delete cronjob
inside maildir). After a reboot it was fine again. I didn´t bother to check
for the cause cause at this time I just didn´t want to spend time on it.

Using 4.14.2 packages and Akonadi 1.13 branch git with database
performance improvements (c733429f4fa9696fb027ddc946e54f6bbb68deaf) on
Debian Sid.

And I have this with my work account on an Exchange server. This Exchange
cluster likes to drop connections at various times (I am aware of an limit
the amount of UIDs we read patch for Akonadi to fix some of this, but I am
not sure whether my kdepim-runtime 4.14.2 debian package contains this).

Thanks for your work on clearing Debian bug reports, Sandro. I appreciate
it! I reported most of my stuff upstream tough.

Bug#777675: qtcreator: hang and repeated SIGSEGV on exit

2015-02-12 Thread Martin Kourim
So, does that mean that it doesn't matter if something doesn't work with
proprietary driver?

I can't use radeon driver due to it's instability on this particular
card. I have no other choice than using this proprietary driver and I
believe I'm not the only one in such situation.
I see no reason why qtcreator should not work with this proprietary
driver while everything else does work. I.e. it looks like a bug in
qtcreator/Qt/QML, not the driver.

I already tested this on other machine with open source driver. I can't
reproduce it there. Yes, it's graphics-driver-specific. What's the point
of trying to reproduce it on radeon driver when I can reproduce it in
100% of cases on fglrx-driver?

I can try to find out if it's issue with qtcreator or with Qt/QML. Some
pointers what to try would be helpful, I'm not familiar with Qt and QML.

Thanks,
Martin

Please try to reproduce the bug without the proprietary driver, ie, using the

In Kubuntu its also possible to run Akonadi MySQL backend with MariaDB.

As is discussed in kdepim-users in thread "Replace MySQL with MariaDB".

Mailinglist archive at

https://mail.kde.org/pipermail/kdepim-users/

seems broken tough.

Would be really nice to have this in Debian as well, as in the original
poster says Akonadi based software seemed to be snappier with this change.
And I heard elsewhere that just replacing MySQL by MariaDB can improve
performance.

Dear MH.

This looks like an upstream bug. I recommend you report this to
upstream bugtracker¹ in case not already done so. Please report back the
link to the upstream bug report. By doing so you help the small Debian
Qt/KDE team.

Severity of this bug is in no way grave as what you reported only
happens in a special use case, while the package just works fine for the
majority of users. It may be grave to you, but that is not what is meant
with "grave" severity in Debian. Instead this is what bug severity
"important" is for².

[2] see https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer#severities
(especially description for "important")

Bug#908079: Buster: No window title bars in KDE?

kwin_x11 is in package kwin-x11 (as dpkg -S tells).

But the Debian bugtracker is no user support forum. Please use debian-
kde mailing list. The bugtracker is for bug reports and improvement
suggestions only.

Bug#908079: Buster: No window title bars in KDE?

> Also:

> # dpkg -S kwin_x11

% dpkg -S kwin_x11
kwin-x11: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libkdeinit5_kwin_x11.so
kwin-x11: /usr/bin/kwin_x11

(with http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ as mirror)

As of now kwin-x11 package is available for buster:

% rmadison kwin-x11
kwin-x11 | 4:5.8.6-1 | stable | amd64, arm64, armel, armhf, i386,
mips, mips64el, mipsel, ppc64el, s390x
kwin-x11 | 4:5.13.4-1| testing| amd64, arm64, armel, armhf, i386,
mips, mips64el, mipsel, ppc64el, s390x
kwin-x11 | 4:5.13.4-1| unstable | amd64, arm64, armel, armhf, i386,
mips, mips64el, mipsel, ppc64el, s390x

So I´d use "apt update" and if the package then still is not available,
check your /etc/apt/sources.list. Maybe your mirror is outdated.

But again, this is no user support forum. Please use debian-kde mailing
list.

Bug#908095: Buster: Kwrite crashes while opening a file

This is an upstream issue.

Please report with https://bugs.kde.org if not already done so and
report the link to this bug report. By doing so you help our small
Debian Qt/KDE team a lot. Bugs to Debian are not automatically forwarded
to the upstream bug tracker.

Before doing so please retest with Kate 18.08 which is available in
Buster meanwhile.

Actually, for smaller upstream issues I think its better to just report
upstream. If there is an upstream patch depending on the severity of the
issue and on planned release date of next Debian stable release, it can
make sense to open a Debian bug report asking to include it.

local10, a bug report is really not the right place to discuss Debian
packaging policy:

https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html

If you choose not to install recommends which is perfectly your choice
you get to deal with the consequences. Installing them is default for a
reason.

If you really want to challenge this policy, then I suggest you post to
debian-devel, but then you better have a very good explanation for using
a depends on packages like kwin-x11 while systems can and do work
perfectly fine without them.

Bug#913595: CVE-2018-19120: kio-extras: HTML Thumbnailer automatic remote file access

2018-11-12 Thread Martin Steigerwald
Package: kio-extras
Version: 4:18.08.1-1
Severity: important
Tags: security

Dear Maintainer,

"KDE Project Security Advisory: kio-extras: HTML Thumbnailer automatic
remote file access" (Message-ID: <5460566.RsyoOK3lV2@xps>, for some reason
the mailing list archives are for subscribers only) mentions that
'htmlthumbnail.so' accesses content from remote files in HTML files to
thumbnail. It has been assigned CVE number CVE-2018-19120.

KDE developers removed the HTML thumbnailer for KDE Applications 18.12.

Work-around is to remove

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/htmlthumbnail.so

The announcement should be accessible to the public on

https://www.kde.org/announcements/

soon.

Thanks,
Martin

Bug#913596: CVE-2018-19120: kio-extras: HTML Thumbnailer automatic remote file access

2018-11-12 Thread Martin Steigerwald
Package: kde-runtime
Version: 4:17.08.3-2
Severity: important
Tags: security

Dear Maintainer,

"KDE Project Security Advisory: kio-extras: HTML Thumbnailer automatic
remote file access" (Message-ID: <5460566.RsyoOK3lV2@xps>, for some reason
the mailing list archives are for subscribers only) mentions that
'htmlthumbnail.so' accesses content from remote files in HTML files to
thumbnail. It has been assigned CVE number CVE-2018-19120.

KDE developers removed the HTML thumbnailer for KDE Applications 18.12.

KDE advisory mentions kio-extras. I am not sure whether 'htmlthumbnail.so'
from KDE SC 4 in 'kde-runtime' is also affected.

If so, work-around is to remove

/usr/lib/kde4/htmlthumbnail.so

The announcement should be accessible to the public on

https://www.kde.org/announcements/

soon.

Thanks,
Martin

Bug#918509: qtwayland5 mixes together the client and server components of qtwayland

2019-01-06 Thread Martin Graesslin
Package: qtwayland5
Version: 5.11.2-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

QtWayland consists of a client part (providing the qpa platform plugin) and a
compositor part (providing an API to implement a Wayland server).
In Debian it's not possible to just install the client part. Thus the Plasma
session requires to install the server components, although it doesn't
use anything of it. This results in a wrong impression that KWin depends on Qt
compositor. Overall this package is just weird.

Bug#918512: kwayland-integration incorrectly depends on qtwayland5

2019-01-06 Thread Martin Graesslin
Package: kwayland-integration
Version: 5.13.4-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

kwayland-integration depends on qtwayland5. This package depends on both Qt's
client and compositor API. It absolutely makes no sense that a Wayland *client*
integration plugin depends on a compositor API. In fact kwayland-integration
does not depend at all on qtwayland.
To a certain degree one could argue that it should runtime depend on the qpa
platform plugin, but it's rather the other way around. If an application uses
the wayland qpa, kwayland-integration can be used.

Create a stretch backport

2019-01-18 Thread William Martin
Hi,

I am often using Qt for small R&D for scientists, and we have requests
about Modbus Client/Server to communicate with industrial devices. Qt
introduce the serialbus (Can & Modbus) in 5.8, the version just after the
stretch release.

I am not very familiar with backports and i don't known how much time and
effort it takes. Are you concidering to backport the version 5.11 (buster)
in stretch backports ?

Best regards,

Bug#886107: kdepim: depends on a lot of developer packages

2018-01-02 Thread Martin Steigerwald
Package: kdepim
Version: 4:16.04.3+5.95

Dear Sandro, dear Maxy, dear Pino, dear maintainers,

A happy, peaceful and successful new year to you!

Today I tried again to upgrade to KF 5.41 from experimental and aptitude
stumbled over updating some -dev packages I had still installed.

I removed them and was surprised that apt removed kdepim + kmail as well.

Afterwards I reinstalled kdepim and saw that apt wants to draw in a lot
of *-dev packages.

Also the version number of the KDEPIM meta package suggests that is still

# Expected results
As kdepim is about the pre-compiled, binary version of KDEPIM I´d expect
to depend on no *-dev packages. I´d expect these to be installed as build
dependencies in case I want to build KDEPIM myself.

Of course it may be that it is not kdepim package itself drawing in these
development packages, but some package it depends on does this.

Also I´d expect the version number of the meta package reflect which
version of KDEPIM is going to be installed.

Thank you,
Martin

Von: Thomas Baumgart
An: kmymoney-de...@kde.org, kde-i18n-...@kde.org

Hi all,

now that the feature list has been updated as the last string change, I
herewith announce the string freeze for KMyMoney's 5.0 branch (which was
actually planned for yesterday).

Further details about the release plan can be found here:

https://kmymoney.org/news.php#itemKMyMoney50releaseplan

@devs: please don't modify any string without prior coordination with
development team.

@i18n-teams: the application is frozen, the documentation still needs to be
updated. In case you need any of the meta-data about repos or so updated,
please let me/us know.

Bug#804272: fails to synchronize caldav to OpenXChange without notice

Control: tags -1 upstream
Control: severity -1 important
kthxbye

Hello Thomas, hello Enrico, hello Petter.

I am sorry that you received no response to this bug report earlier.

I am downgrading the bug to important as its not a policy violation and also
the package is not unsuitable for everyone.

Of course some time has passed and current Debian Stable aka Stretch has the
updated Akonadi version 16.04.3. Could you reproduce this issue with this
version or a newer one?

If so, I kindly ask you to report the bug upstream if not already done. We
greatly appreciate your help.

Please report it via Help -> Report bug... menu item of the respective
application or by visiting https://bugs.kde.org/ and following instructions
to report a new bug.

Debian Qt/KDE maintainers do not have resources to deal with
non Debian-specific bugs and therefore it is unlikely that
your bug will be solved if you do not report it to KDE developers
directly (unless it is/has been reported by somebody else).

Whenever you open a bug report or find an existing one on the KDE
bug tracking system, you can couple both this Debian bug and the
KDE bug together by sending a mail with the text below to
cont...@bugs.debian.org (replace KDE-BUG-URL with the address of
the bug report on https://bugs.kde.org/)

I disagree, see below.

> At this point I do not know how to recover the passwords from kwallet.
> Looks like 100% data loss at this point.

Kwalletmanager from Plasma 5 does not delete the original KDE SC 4 KWallet
files. So I think it is safe to say the *.kwl files in ~/.kde/share/apps/
kwallet are still there.

For some reason the migration failed on your system, but AFAIK you can repeat
the attempt to migrate as many times as you like. I think it is sufficient to
remove the first two lines from the config file of the kwalletmanager from
Plasma 5.

~/.config> head -2 kwalletrc
[Migration]
alreadyMigrated=true

and restart kwalletmanager. There was a blog post from KWallet Manager but, I
cannot access it currently.[0]

But really, this is user support, so please ask in debian-kde mailing list for
help on how to successfully migrate it. If you then find a solution, then feel
free to add it to the bug report.

Again, I am nearly 100% sure that there is no data loss. So a severity of
critical is not justified¹. I totally get that you are frustrated, but please
first check whether your old kwalletmanager from KDE SC 4 *.kwl files are
still there before setting the bug severity based on assumptions.

Please note that this is also an upstream issue, so you can help by
researching in the upstream bug tracker² for a bug about it. If you find one,
please add information about it to this bug report. Well I searched there for
"kwalletmanager migration", but found no obvious fit for your bug
description³. But please look for yourself and probably try out different
search terms.

I am not even sure whether the file format changed. Maybe its even sufficient
to copy the kwl files over to the new location, but that might not be enough.
I had issues with migration for one of my users, but I fixed them long ago and
do not remember exactly what I did. The new location is: ~/.local/share/
kwalletd

please refrain from raising the severity of unrelated bugs to critical.

It won´t help you towards a solution. Please read my comment to

kwalletmanager: Migration does not work and restarts at every login
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=863844#15

And ask in debian-kde mailing list for help on how to complete the migration.

It is not beneficial to discuss this in the bug tracker, so please use user
support mailing list for finding help with this upstream issue.

The aim of the Qt/KDE team is to remove Qt4 for next Debian release. So there
are no plans on making kwalletmanager from KDE SC 4 and kwalletmanager5 from
Plasma 5 co-installable.

Bug#797644: kdelibs5-dev: kopete FTBFS: No rule to make target '/usr/lib/libsoprano.so', needed by 'kopete/kopete'

2015-09-25 Thread Martin Steghöfer

Dear kdelibs5-dev maintainers,

One package I worked on is affected by this problem, too. That's why I
started investigating this issue and found out that there is a whole
bunch of packages that are currently (or were recently) FTBFS'ing
because of this problem. Some maintainers employed the workaround of
adding a build dependency to "libsoprano-dev" because that's the only
way they can fix the FTBFS themselves. But it sure feels like a hack,
which is why I'd prefer not to have to do this.

What's the reason for this odd behaviour? I couldn't really see this
from this bug report, just that it had something to do with "the
transition from nepomuk to the new baloo package".

Is this going to be fixed properly at some point? I consider adding
"libsoprano-dev" to the Build-Depends of all dependant packages just a
temporary workaround.

Could we keep this bug open as a reminder that this still needs a proper
fix?

To me it feels really wrong to add a build dependency to a library that
is never even mentioned in any of the CMakeLists.txt files, nor is used
directly by any of the code (there is even a warning telling me that I
shouldn't have linked against it). Or is there any justification for
seeing libsoprano-dev as a "real" build dependency of packages of that
kind, and I'm just not seeing it? Or a way to get rid of the "dependency"?

Cheers,
Martin

Bug#797644: kdelibs5-dev: kopete FTBFS: No rule to make target '/usr/lib/libsoprano.so', needed by 'kopete/kopete'

2015-09-25 Thread Martin Steghöfer

Thank you for your comment, Scott! Let my clarify...

Scott Kitterman wrote:

If there's a warning not to link against it, isn't the solution not to do that?

Yes, of course it would be a solution *not* to link against it, but
"kdelibs5-dev" forces me to do so (that's why I blame it).

That's actually part of the point I was trying to make: My package (as
well as others that are FTBFS'ing in the same way) doesn't actually
*want* to link against libsoprano. It never asks for it. As I said
before: The library libsoprano "is never even mentioned in any of the
CMakeLists.txt files".

It is some CMake magic in kdelibs5-dev's macros that pulls it in. It is
enough to do the following:

/
| KDE4_ADD_EXECUTABLE( myMainApp mymainapp.cxx )
| TARGET_LINK_LIBRARIES( myMainApp ${KDE4_KHTML_LIBS} )
\

That makes "myMainApp" link against libsoprano.

It's fine for "libkhtml.so" to request linking to libsoprano. But if it
does so, IMHO its corresponding -dev package should make sure that the
necessary dependencies are pulled in.

Hope that clears things up a little...

Cheers,
Martin

I think this is an upstream implementation issue. KDE applications use
kio_html to determine the mime type to decide which application to use on it.
That way if have an URL to an image it opens Gwenview instead.

You can help by forwarding this issue upstream if not already done. I may also
do it, but likely not this week anymore.

Bug#807399: libkf5su-bin: kdesud not group suid and owned by root (instead of nobody)

2015-12-08 Thread Martin Graesslin
Package: libkf5su-bin
Version: 5.16.0-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I noticed that the file
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/kf5/kdesud

is group owned by "root" and not group suid.

Given the CMake snippet from the source package:
install(TARGETS kdesud DESTINATION ${KDE_INSTALL_LIBEXECDIR_KF5})
install(CODE "
set(KDESUD_PATH
\"\$ENV{DESTDIR}${CMAKE_INSTALL_FULL_LIBEXECDIR_KF5}/kdesud\")
execute_process(COMMAND sh -c \"chgrp nogroup '\${KDESUD_PATH}' && chmod
g+s '\${KDESUD_PATH}'\")
")

Without being suid for group the kdesud process is rather useless as kdesu from
kde-cli-tools reports:

kdesu(2626)/(org.kde.kdesu) startApp: Daemon not safe (not sgid), not using it.

Bug#807399: libkf5su-bin: kdesud not group suid and owned by root (instead of nobody)

Bug#941120: akonadi-backend-postgresql: fails to stop postgresql 11

2019-10-10 Thread Martin Steigerwald
Dear Sandro,

> as I don't use postgresql as backend, can you explain, why this bug it
> that annoying, so I should fix that also for stable?

Hmmm, thinking about it, the case for stable may not be all that strong.
As I do not use stable, I won't need it there.

I am not sure how many Debian users use stable Akonadi with PostgreSQL
and PostgreSQL even appears to pick up the running processes after a
subsequent "akonadictl start". Considering all this, the only annoyance
and confusion is that some PostgreSQL processes keep lingering around.
Some users may be confused about this.

Okay, all in all, not all that convincing arguments for stable. I just
thought if you do all the other fixes, you could put this one in as well.
I considered it to be low risk.

As the fix is in Akonadi 19.04, you may consider to close the bug right
away or close it when uploading Akonadi 19.08 or newer packages.

Best,

Dear Maintainer,

After upgrading to Qt 5.12.5 packages Plasmashell crashes on any notification.

I can reproduce this with:

kdialog --passivepopup 'text' 5

Output on Konsole:

Hi!

Probably related:

Bug 1758263 - qt 5-12.5 update pushed to testing causes continual
crashes

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1758263

https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2019-2a4f82aa58

According to these an update of qt5-qtdeclarative-5.12.5-3 fixed the
issue for them. I am currently not sure how to dig out which patch they
have applied from above reports, and I need a break anyway.

Bug#290378: korganizer: default duration of new appointment unsettable

The "Default duration of new appointment" select box
(under Time & Date configuration for korganizer)
offers times-of-day rather than time intervals.

Hello,

I'm merging both reports concerning the error message "KDEInit could not
launch '/usr/games/foo'", which seem to be different manifestations of
the same underlying problem. The bug has also been forwarded upstream.

Cheers,

A preliminary fix, ensuring that kdelibs can't get too far ahead of the
rest of KDE, is in the archive, including Sarge, hence my willingness to
close the report. I apologize if my statement at the time of closing
wasn't clear on that.

In any case, I look forward to receiving information from you about the

Not that I'm aware of, no. It's up to the follow-up submitter to CC the
original submitter.

This information was decisive:

Although you know of no apps which do so at present, it would be good to
allow them to do so without the -dev package, hence the closure.

Thanks for the report. Did you just upgrade all, or part, of kdelibs? If
you completely restart KDE, does the problem go away? Also, are you sure
that the file name is libhtml.so.4? What about libkhtml.so.4?

Bug#291251: CAN-2005-0064: Arbitrary code execution in kpdf

This problem also affects kpdf:

Buffer overflow in the Decrypt::makeFileKey2 function in Decrypt.cc
for xpdf 3.00 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary
code via a PDF file with a large /Encrypt /Length keyLength value.

You'll find the patch in the source of xpdf 3.00-12 which I'm attaching.

Most all X-dependent packages do not declare a dependency (or Recommends,
Suggests, etc.) on an X server. The Suggests we put in was deliberately
part of the meta-package, since its sole function is to remind people
installing a new Debian system, and who are installing kde, to also
install X. To move the Suggests to kdebase would therefore be exceedingly
unusual, as would strengthening it to a Recommends, since that might
imply that only xfree86 worked well with KDE, which is not the case.

Does it help to add the line:

Configuration file handling must conform to the following behavior:

* local changes must be preserved during a package upgrade, and
* configuration files must be preserved when the package is removed,
and only deleted when the package is purged.

Nothing kcontrol does violates policy 10.7.3, which describes package
upgrades and removals. It does not forbid some GUI tool from completely
re-writing the file, since running that tool is up to the user and has
nothing to do with packaging policy.

That kcontrol does what it does is very annoying and a very nasty
shortcoming, but not a policy violation.

To fix this, we'd need either to ship a kdmrc that conforms to the
kcontrol configurator's basic pattern, and so wouldn't be modified by
kcontrol more than is really necessary (could we make it keep the
comments, at least?), or else re-write the kdm module of kcontrol to
behave less stupidly, which would be quite an undertaking.

Comments?

The next upload of kdelibs will add Conflicts/Replaces against old
versions of openoffice.org, in order to avoid problems such as you are
encountering.

If you're on a LAN, why are you using kppp? It would be helpful if you
could explain your situation in more detail.

Believe me, we get a ton of reports from new users whose packages don't
work because they didn't install the Recommends. But that's not why I
made kppp depend on ppp - I did it because it does depend on ppp.

By the rationale you are putting forward, packages depended on by a
metapackage should never have any dependencies at all, since of the ~100
packages installed by the kde metapackage, you may only use 20, yet would
then be obliged to install un-needed dependencies for the other 80. In
short, package dependencies should not be affected the presence of a
metapackage.

I understand your concern, but the real problem is that metapackages are a
crude solution to a general problem. If you don't need one of the
packages installed by a metapackage, you could simply uninstall the
metapackage. Perhaps, though, a nicer solution would be for the
metapackages to only Recommend their packages - that way people could
customize their KDE installs without losing the metapackages, which many
seem not to want to do.

Comments anyone?

Chris

Good question. Possibly for the very reason you brought up, though that

Exactly. Current Depends would become Recommends, and the Recommends could

Bug#293754: kleopatra does not install

2005-02-05 Thread Martin Schulze
Package: kleopatra

The package should at least be installable when it is in the Debian archive,
even if it is a contrib package.

# apt-get install kleopatra
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kleopatra: Depends: gpgsm but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

There is no such package as gpgsm and it is not listed in permitted fake
packages (/org/ftp.debian.org/testing/data/testing/FauxPackages).

Bug#294169: kmail should handle disconnection gracefully

2005-02-08 Thread Martin Emrich
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.3.2-1
Severity: normal

Hi!

When I start kmail (or kontact) when there is no network connection
(on my notebook, I start them on demand depending on where I am),
it tries to connect to my configured IMAP servers and displays
error messages for each that the server could not be reached.
after this, I have to exit kmail (or kontact) and manually kill
every kio_newimap(s) process and restart kmail, If I am lucky,
I can get a connection.

Please add a little "terminate all IMAP/whatever connection" to
kmail, maybe in the status bar where the "cancel operation" button
is. Or am I overlooking something?

Thanks

Martin Emrich

kppp is now SUID root by default. When it runs, it splits into a privileged
backend and an unprivileged frontend. The SUID backend actually
renames /etc/ppp/*-secrets, and creates its own versions of those files,
filling them with the password information stored in
~/.kde/share/config/kppprc. On disconnect, it removes these files, and puts
the originals back.

Perhaps the problem occurs when the password is moved to the new *-secrets
file, from kppprc. Incidentally, this looks somewhat related to the
problems of KDE #91235 and #61786.

Christopher Martin

Bug#296428: kwifimanager: KWifiManager doesn't save settings

2005-02-22 Thread Martin Steigerwald
Package: kwifimanager
Version: 4:3.3.2-1
Severity: important

I am submitting a bug report that I also submitted upstream at:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1:

The KWifiManager control center module doesn't save any settings here,
regardless on whether I start it from KWifiManager or use the control
center directly. It also does not work when I start the control center as root
directly.

I tried clicking "Apply" on every change, but when I leave the dialog with "OK"
or just by selecting an other control center module from the
list and then go back all my changes got lost.

This applies to all settings in one of those 4 possible configuration as well
as the setting on which configuration to load and the setting on
which network interface the configuration is for.

I like to setup a start script that does a DHCP on the interface once the WLAN
connection is up, but I can't since any changes to my settings
get lost.

This is on an IBM ThinkPad R51 with Debian Sarge with

kwifimanager 3.3.2-1
wireless-tools 27-2
kernel-image-2.6.10-4

and ipw2200 driver (version 1.0.0, firmware 2.2).

There are also reports from users of other distribution that saving settings
does not work. But none of them contained a solution:

Bug#292401: kdm_config override /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc which is a conffile

2005-03-09 Thread Christopher Martin
severity 292401 important
stop

Hello,

The conclusion of discussion with the Release Managers on #debian-release
was that this bug is really annoying but not RC. They conceded the
(unintentional and in fact hitherto unnoticed) lack of clarity in
sarge_rc_policy, but don't feel that this merits enforcing the strictest
interpretation given the obvious practical difficulties, and recommend the
bug be lowered to important.

Cheers,
Christopher Martin

[12:46] Could one of the RMs evaluate bug #292401, and advise
on the different interpretations of Sarge RC-ness contained therein?
[12:47] Thucydides: if the title is true, it is RC.
[12:48] no it isn't
[12:48] doesn't seem RC to me; very annoying but not RC
[12:48] eh, moment
[12:48] the rc policy is that the package _maintainer scripts_ don't
do that to conffiles
[12:48] * aba misunderstood the title
[12:48] neuro: agreed.
[12:48] aba: I think you read it as kdm.config, rather than
kdm_config?
[12:48] * aba goes back to the sick list
[12:48] Kamion: yes.
[12:49] I read it as "$package overwrites conffile", not "$program
overwrites conffile" - which is obviously quite a different thing.
[12:49] although Bill is right that sarge_rc_policy goes a bit
further than that
[12:49] which is interesting since I don't think I've noticed that
text before
[12:50] well, the question is: What is an editor? I think I might
qualify kdm_config as an specialiced editor, but - well, it's really quite
annoying.
[12:50] hmm. I think the current letter of our release policy is in
fact that it's RC, but I would be inclined to leave this one alone for
sarge now unless it's easy to fix
[12:51] depending, as aba says, on exactly what you call an editor
[12:51] it's not an easy fix, I'm afraid
[12:51] it's not easy to fix.
[12:51] seems unlikely that it would be
[12:51] I think we should modify the release policy to replace "an
editor" with "a program designed to edit the file" or some such
[12:52] it might be easy to fix if kde used certain gnome libraries
to read the conf file...but I'm sure that fix wouldn't be acceptable to
most.
[12:52] I would tend to downgrade it to annyoing^Wimportant.
[12:52] Kamion: well, the program might be designed to edit the
conffile, but it doesn't clearly advertise itself as such -- from an
unsuspecting user POV, it modifies some 'registry', rather than a real
conffile
[12:53] yeah, but that's different from some automated process
running it without any user request at all
[12:53] but yeah, pragmatic thinking yields to make this bug not RC
[12:53] (we might even consider it as "quite annoying", which also
important)
[12:53] jvw: if the user is that unsuspecting, they're not going to
be using a text editor on the file, either.
[12:54] or be answering anything other than "enter" to dpkg prompts
[12:58] Thanks for clarifying. I'll set the bug back to
important.
[12:59] feel free to quote this conversation

If you could explain further the exact nature of the problem, I would be

It should work... Did you install all the packages recommended by
kdebase-kio-plugins, and is your user a member of the plugdev group?

Also, please note that [EMAIL PROTECTED] is for
discussions amongst the KDE packaging team. In future, please send your
general help requests to debian-kde@lists.debian.org, and packaging queries
to debian-qt-kde@lists.debian.org, which is where I'm directing this
conversation now. We all read those lists as well.

Add the attached files to /etc/hotplug/usb, owned by root, with permissions
of 644 for logitechmouse.usermap, and 755 for logitechmouse. Then do
"/etc/init.d/hotplug force-reload", and add your user to the plugdev group
if they're not already in it. The Logitech config screen should now be
available.

If this works (let me know), then I will add these files to the KDE
packaging.

Bug#301127: kaboodle dies with "sigsev" or so when trying to play an mpeg

2005-03-23 Thread Christopher Martin
severity 301127 important
stop

amd64 is not an official architecture at this point, so this is hardly
release critical. It would also be helpful if you updated to the latest
packages (unless amd64 is really out of date, kdelibs and kdemultimedia all
have updates over the versions listed in your report).

Christopher Martin

Great, this will be in the next upload. I've also added some basic
README.Debian files explaining what plugdev is needed for.

sim is orphaned and has been removed from Testing. Kopete also has a
Replaces: sim (<= 0.9.3-2) on it, which should be sufficient to overwrite
sim. I just tested it, and it does work. Are you using an unofficial sim
package?
