Bug#495474: [kmid] kmid doesn't play any sound
Package: kmid Version: 4:3.5.9-3 Severity: serious --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Dear Developers, I'm unable to play midi files using kmid while rosegarden works flawlessy. I have a cheap integrated soundcard (Intel HDA) and so I'm pushed to use fluyidsinth or timidity as software synthesyzer. I'm not completely sure that's all fault of kmid, because using an older kernel (2.6.24.7) that has a different configuration of output channels in alsa, I can play midi's with kmid. Sorry for this poor bugreport, but I don't have any clue about it. Midi playing has always been a nightmare in Linux :) Ciao Valerio --- System information. --- Architecture: amd64 Kernel: Linux 2.6.26.2 Debian Release: lenny/sid 500 unstablewww.debian-multimedia.org 500 unstablemirrors.ecology.uni-kiel.de 500 unstablemi.mirror.garr.it 500 unstabledebian.fastweb.it 500 testing mi.mirror.garr.it 500 stable security.debian.org 500 stable mi.mirror.garr.it --- Package information. --- Depends (Version) | Installed =-+-== kdelibs4c2a (>= 4:3.5.9) | 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-6 libc6 (>= 2.7-1) | 2.7-13 libgcc1 (>= 1:4.1.1) | 1:4.3.1-9 libqt3-mt (>= 3:3.3.8b) | 3:3.3.8b-5 libstdc++6 (>= 4.1.1) | 4.3.1-9 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#495474: [kmid] kmid doesn't play any sound
Alle giovedì 21 agosto 2008, Ana Guerrero ha scritto: > There's a "midi setup" option in the menus, have you tried changing it to > make kmid use a different output channel? It sounds like kmid is trying to > use an external midi port instead of the software synthesizer port to play > the music. > > > Ana Dear Ana, I've already tried to play a little with those settings with no effective results, but there is something new. I've experimented that if I move the slider in kmid to jump in different sections of a song, I can listen to something, like a locked chord. So the complete absence of any sound seems do be due to the initial silence contained in some of the songs I have that is extended to the end of the song itself. I've tried this both using timidity and fluidsynth: kmid behaves the same. I hope this helps a little in tracking down this bug. Bug#495474: [kmid] kmid doesn't play any sound

I think that the problem is not literally the "absence" of any sound from kmid, but that it plays just the few notes at the beninning of the song producing a sound that lasts "forever". So if the beginning of the song contains a chord, I listen to a locked chord (eg: Re-e), if the beginning has a pause, I listen to nothing. Kmid behaves in this way just described with any software synthesizer I have (Timidity and Fluidsynth). I use Rosegarden as a positive control, to check if I've loaded the right modules and softsynth with soundfonts: every time Rosegarden plays well any song. Bug#503149: [kmail] Kmail messes with text identation
Package: kmail Version: 4:3.5.9-5 Severity: important --- Please enter the report below this line. --- I love kmail and I'm using it since 2002, but I have just come aware that it has this silly behaviour by design: it changes automatically the special characters used for spacing and indentation in text. This is unimportant until you send a message, but if you receive emails containing a diff/patch to apply to a piece of code, then everything must be indented again (with sad results). This bug has shown up more then 1 year ago in linux kernel mailing list http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/linux-kernel/2007/7/5/112282/thread and it's really a pity that it is still there. BTW I have "re-invented" the wheel with this bug report, but I really wish that the guys upstream fix it. Bug#372564: kwalletmanager: Set the severity of this bug from important to grave
Package: kwalletmanager Version: 3.5.3-1 Followup-For: Bug #372564 Hi, when I logged out I experienced the same hanging of the system described by others, but in a very unlucky case I've had my reiserfs compromised because my PC was unable to completely shutdown and poweroff itself and I needed to push the power button. The rest it's history. I think that this system hangs during shutdown are very dangerous and the bug needs to be fixed ASAP and the severity switched from important to grave.
