Sorry to take a while to get back to you - your mail came while I was on
holiday and I had all the bookmarks for this on my other machine.

Please read this for an overview of the translation process:

  http://l10n.openoffice.org/adding_language.html

It seems that Mandrake already supply the updates needed for catalan in the
form of patches. This is good, because their patches are compatible with
ours and can be simply dropped in the debian/patches directory of the
openoffice source. I was not able to find any information from the authors
about the licensing of these patches; I need that to make sure that we are
allowed to distribute these patches. Also, it is part of Debian policy to
submit patches added to packages upstream; I can't find any record of these
patches in OpenOffice's IssueZilla and this needs to be checked out why
nothing has been submitted upstream yet.

You can check out Mandrake's packaging from CVS like this:

  export CVSROOT=:ext:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cooker
  export CVS_RSH=ssh
  cvs login
[type 'cvs' as password]
  cvs -z3 get SPECS/OpenOffice.org

You can get the latest Debian package source from CVS like this:

  apt-get source openoffice.org
  cd openoffice.org-1.0.2
  rm -r debian
  export CVSROOT=:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvs/debian-openoffice
  cvs login
[press enter when prompted for a password]
  cvs get -d debian oo-deb/debian

The relevant patches seem to be:
openoffice-1.0.1-catalan-localization.txt
openoffice-1.0.2-catalan.patch
openoffice-1.0.1-external-localize-ca.patch

You should place patches in debian/patches.

Once OOo is patched to generate the Catalan, you need to modify the list of
languages generated by the langpack process. To do this, edit
debian/local/openoffice-xlate-lang, and add catalan to the table of
language number, language code and language name found at the end of the
file:

__DATA__
01:en:English (US)
03:pt:Portuguese
etc.

To generate the control file, do the following:

  rm debian/control
  debian/rules control

Now you can build the packages! See debian/README for details about the
package building system, build options and the available targets. Or:

  debuild

(assuming that you have the devscripts package installed)

> Hi, can you see if you can get setup to generate a coredump to send to me?

I've still not heard back about this bug. There is a new upstream release
in unstable now - please will you test if this still happens?

I have rewritten the section about crashes in README.Debian - here is what
to do if you still have crashes:

3. You may be able to provide us with information about the crash by producing
a core dump. Make sure you are in a directory where you have write permission,
and execute this:

  ulimit -c 1; LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/openoffice/program
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/setup.bin -R:/etc/openoffice/autoresponse.conf

When setup crashes, you should see the message 'Segmentation fault (core
dumped)'. and find a file named 'core' in your working directory. Examine it
in gdb with these commands:

  echo where > gdb.script
  gdb /usr/lib/openoffice/program/setup.bin core < gdb.script | tee
openoffice.log

Now you have a backtrace of the crash in the file 'openoffice.log', which will
indicate what the problem could be - please check the open bug reports, and if
there is no similar report, file a new report and attach the openoffice.log
file. We may ask you to send your 'core' file if the crash is unknown to us.

Please mail the 'openoffice.org' log of your crash to this bugreport.

Thanks,
Chris

Not quite true - Andrei Dergatchev did quite some work on it AFAIK, but they
(IIRC) continued to get bogged down with 64bit cleanliness issues and then
sort of drifted off the scene...

 Please read /usr/share/doc/openoffice.org/README.Debian.gz for

For the ones not speaking german, Speicherzugriffsfehler means memory
access fault.

I ran

cd /usr/lib/openoffice/program; (LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. strace setup.bin
2>&1) | grep open | grep .ttf | tail

but got no output, so I assume, everything is OK with my fonts.

I cannot run oopadmin, the program hangs just after startup (before the
purge it crashed)

What's wrong with my install?

Could someone point me to the right place to look for Python UNO?

This would have an effect on the timeliness of the x86-64 port,
wouldn't it?

OO 1.0.2 backported to woody

2003-01-29 Thread Adrian Bunk
FYI:

I've backported OpenOffice.org 1.0.2 to woody and added these packages
to a larger collection of packages I do maintain [1].

Notes regarding these packages:
- they are compiled using a backported gcc 3.2.1
- as a workaround for the problem with the same file in several
packages each openoffice.org-l10n package conflict with all
  other openoffice.org-l10n packages

These packages are only lightly tested, any comments are welcome.

Thanks for your good work with packaging OO!
Adrian

BTW: Please Cc me on replies.

OpenOffice 1.0.2 crashing on setup. Backtrace attached.

2003-01-29 Thread Dan Kegel

I'm running debian stable, and it's fairly up to date
(I just did apt-get update; apt-get upgrade).

Here's what's happening: I downloaded

http://sf1.mirror.openoffice.org/stable/1.0.2/OOo_1.0.2_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz
I successfully run
   ./install --prefix=/opt
as directed by
   http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/instructions.html#linux
Then as a normal user, I did
   cd /opt/OpenOffice.org1.0.2
   ./setup
This flickered the screen, then printed out
   Aborted

OK, I've searched the archives, and saw the mention
about bad fonts possibly causing setup to crash, but
after pulling out the last two fonts, it seems clear
that the crash is after the fonts are finished loading.

I've had the crash with both KDE
and a totally minimal window manager + fspanel.

I tried using the old gnu backtracer as follows:
export LD_PRELOAD=/lib/libSegFault.so
export SEGFAULT_USE_ALTSTACK=1
export SEGFAULT_SIGNALS=all
export SEGFAULT_OUTPUT_NAME=/tmp/crash.log
cd /opt/OpenOffice.org1.0.2
./setup
but I had to ctrl-alt-backspace, as the program
hung while it was displaying a white splash screen.
/tmp/crash.log only contained a register dump.
Oh, well, I should figure out what's wrong with libSegFault
sometime. (Maybe I didn't wait long enough.)

I then tried ssh'ing in from another machine and setting DISPLAY=:0.0 by
hand, then running the setup binary under gdb. That worked,
though there was about a ten second delay from saying 'run' to
when the error popped up.
Here's the backtrace:
