Please read this for an overview of the translation process: http://l10n.openoffice.org/adding_language.html It seems that Mandrake already supply the updates needed for catalan in the form of patches. This is good, because their patches are compatible with ours and can be simply dropped in the debian/patches directory of the openoffice source. I was not able to find any information from the authors about the licensing of these patches; I need that to make sure that we are allowed to distribute these patches. Also, it is part of Debian policy to submit patches added to packages upstream; I can't find any record of these patches in OpenOffice's IssueZilla and this needs to be checked out why nothing has been submitted upstream yet. You can check out Mandrake's packaging from CVS like this: export CVSROOT=:ext:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cooker export CVS_RSH=ssh cvs login [type 'cvs' as password] cvs -z3 get SPECS/OpenOffice.org You can get the latest Debian package source from CVS like this: apt-get source openoffice.org cd openoffice.org-1.0.2 rm -r debian export CVSROOT=:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvs/debian-openoffice cvs login [press enter when prompted for a password] cvs get -d debian oo-deb/debian The relevant patches seem to be: openoffice-1.0.1-catalan-localization.txt openoffice-1.0.2-catalan.patch openoffice-1.0.1-external-localize-ca.patch You should place patches in debian/patches. Once OOo is patched to generate the Catalan, you need to modify the list of languages generated by the langpack process. To do this, edit debian/local/openoffice-xlate-lang, and add catalan to the table of language number, language code and language name found at the end of the file: __DATA__ 01:en:English (US) 03:pt:Portuguese etc. To generate the control file, do the following: rm debian/control debian/rules control Now you can build the packages! See debian/README for details about the package building system, build options and the available targets. Or: debuild (assuming that you have the devscripts package installed) Chris
