unfortunate, but not release critical. there is still gnat-3.3 for
hppa. I'll try to address this when the libgcj5-awt package is built
again.

Bug#262884: gcc-3.4 on amd64: libg2c0-dev gets wrong version number

2004-08-02 Thread Andreas Jochens
Package: gcc-3.4
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

In debian/rules.d/binary-fortran.mk the libg2c0 and libg2c0-dev packages
are created with different version numbers:

dh_gencontrol -p$(p_g2c) -u-v$(DEB_EVERSION)

dh_gencontrol -p$(p_g2cd) -u-v$(DEB_VERSION)

The libg2c0 package will get a version '1:3.4...' while the libg2c0-dev
package will get at version '3.4...' (i.e. without the leading '1:').
To avoid problems when upgrading from the '1:3.3...' versions, both
packages should get a '1:3.4...' version.

This will be a problem when the libg2c0-dev package will be built from
the gcc-3.4 package (instead of gcc-3.3 as it is now).

The attached patch fixes the version number for the libg2c0-dev package
in debian/rules.d/binary-fortran.mk.

The patch also changes debian/rules.defs to build the common_pkgs and
common_libs from gcc-3.4 for the amd64 architecture.

Regards
Andreas Jochens

Bug#262892: gcc-3.4 on amd64: Please replace 'lib64' hack by setting proper MULTILIB_OSDIRNAMES

2004-08-02 Thread Andreas Jochens
Package: gcc-3.4
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

The attached patch removes the ugly 'lib64' symlink hack from 'debian/rules2'.

Instead it introduces an 'amd64-multilib.dpatch' in 'debian/patches', which
sets MULTILIB_OSDIRNAMES in 'src/gcc/config/i386/t-linux64' to the proper
values for the 'pure64' amd64 port, i.e. to '../lib' for 64bit libraries
and to '../lib/i486-linux/' for 32bit libraries. The patch also enables the
'amd64-multilib.dpatch' for amd64 in 'debian/rules.patch'.

The name '../lib/i486-linux' for the 32bit library path conforms to the
current multiarch proposals for placing 32bit libraries.

At a later stage, this setting of MULTILIB_OSDIRNAMES will make it possible
to drop the '--disable-multilib' option in CONFARGS and to build gcc-3.4
with full multilib support as soon as the necessary 32bit libraries and
files from glibc are installed in '/usr/lib/i486-linux' (basically libc.a,
libm.a, libpthread.a and crt?.o are needed for this). With the current
setting of MULTILIB_OSDIRNAMES to '../lib64' and '../lib' this would never
be possible, because '../lib64' and '../lib' are the same directory
in the pure64 port.

Andreas Jochens

Bug#262898: gcc-3.4 on amd64: Please do not explicitly Build-Depend on packages from gcc-3.3

2004-08-02 Thread Andreas Jochens
Package: gcc-3.4
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Currently the 'gcc-3.4' package explictly Build-Depends on g++-3.3,
g77-3.3 and gobjc-3.3 from the 'gcc-3.3' package.

Is it possible to drop the explict dependency on components from
the 'gcc-3.3' package and maybe replace the Build-Depends on
'g++-3.3, g77-3.3, gobjc-3.3' just by 'g77, gobjc'?

Sorry, but we need those excemptions for hurd-i386. You just removed the
"gnu" occurances, but they should be changed back to "hurd-i386".

gcc-3.3 has:

while gcc-3.4 has no occurance of "hurd-i386" in the Build-Depends at
all anymore.

When there isn't sufficient virtual memory, the compiler bails out, giving

I tried to use the gcc-3.4_3.4.1-5 but ld was missing an option called

Should we make a depency to the binutils-version gcc is compiled with?

Bug#263019: This bug is definitely RC

Uhm. Failing to have correct versions in depends (*if* they're really that
sensitive) is mroe or less an automatic FTBFS, which is at least 'serious',
I should think. Certainly not minor.

If it doesn't actually require binutils >= 2.15, then the bug should be
updated; if it does, an RC severity is correct, I should think.

The reason seems adequite to me; it's only the correctness which I can't
verify just offhand.

I still think this is the same underlying bug:
a) I reduced Wolfgang's version to come up with mine.
b) My example starts with an ICE in
 cxx_incomplete_type_diagnostic, at cp/typeck2.c:278
   which changed to
 instantiate_class_template, at cp/pt.c:5440
the day Wolfgang's testcase started crashing the compiler.

Btw, I've got another reduced example - this time the crash is in the same
spot as with the original example. For this one I also get
: Search converges between 2003-01-15-trunk (#165) and 2003-01-17-trunk (#166).

Kriang, thanks for taking the blame, but I think you're innocent in this case.
The trouble starts with Mark's patch

please could you point me to an announcement/email that your whole archive
has sucessfully built using GCC-3.4 as the default GCC and the amd64
porting team has decided on the default compiler?

Thanks, Matthias
