Bug#317423: JuK Crash

2005-07-30 Thread Kevin

Hi,

Do you have JuK set to output to aRts? If so, try changing the MediaSystem
option in your ~/.kde/share/config/jukrc (it's in [Settings]) to 2 and
then start JuK. If it starts, try using outputting to aKode (or GStreamer)
instead.

I haven't looked into the problem any further, however, so I can't say
exactly what the issue between JuK and aRts is. Hope that helps in the
meantime, though.

Also, I'm currently using the KDE 3.4.1 packages from
http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/ on an otherwise Debian Unstable system.

Bug#554890: nautilus crashes when trying to edit preference

2009-11-28 Thread Kevin
Joss: Your dismissive comment is not helpful.
Please see how a similar (if not identical) problem was handled by the Fedora
project:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=523749

I'm experiencing this same crashing behavior on an up-to-date testing/squeeze
system,
but from your attitude, it looks like I shouldn't bother trying to resolve it.

The packages are with mattia for uploading, but I know he’s very busy so hasn’t
looked at them yet. Should we go another way to get them checked and uploaded?

I just encountered the same issue with gimp 2.10.2-1. I did have
libopenblas-base (0.3.2+ds-1) installed. Uninstalling it did solve
the issue. Perhaps adding libopenblas-base to Conflicts would be
appropriate? Anything else I can do to isolate/test?

Thanks,
Kevin

P.S. For reference, uninstalling libopenblas-base reverted
libblas.so.3 and liblapack.so.3 to the ATLAS implementations (from
libatlas3-base 3.10.3-7+b1) on my system:

On my Debian 11 XFCE machine this works correctly. Make sure "PolicyKit
Authentication Agent" is checked under "Session and Startup" ->
"Application Autostart".

In Debian 12 under Sway the GNOME Authentication Agent segfaults, but I
will take this up under separate cover. I was able to work around the
issue for the moment by using lxpolkit for the authentication agent instead.

Bug#990058: libnss3: increase symbol version for SSL_GetChannelInfo when SSLChannelInfo size changes

2021-06-18 Thread Kevin Locke
Package: libnss3
Version: 2:3.67-1
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
Justification: Policy 8.6.3.3
X-Debbugs-Cc: Sebastian Ramacher , Carsten Schoenert

Dear Maintainer,

Thunderbird 1:78.11.0-1 in testing is unable to establish some (all?)
TLS connections when run with libnss3 2:3.61-1, because it was built
with libnss3-dev 2:3.66-1. The issue occurs because the size of
SSLChannelInfo increased between NSS 3.61 and 3.66 (due to the addition
of PRBool isFIPS). SSL_GetChannelInfo takes both a pointer to and size
of SSLChannelInfo as arguments. If the size is greater than the size it
expects, it returns SECFailure, causing the connection to fail. See
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=989839#48 for details.

The issue is being discussed on debian-release, where Sebastian Ramacher
pointed out that the libnss3 symbol file should bump the minimum version
requirement for all symbols that works with SSLChannelInfo.[1] I agree.
As far as I can tell, SSL_GetChannelInfo is the only such symbol. I
believe it should be bumped to 2:3.66 for package 2:3.67 and bumped in
future versions whenever the size of SSLChannelInfo changes. I've
attached a patch to do so.

Thanks for considering,
Kevin

Subject: [PATCH] libnss3.symbols: bump SSL_GetChannelInfo to 2:3.66

PRBool isFIPS was added to SSLChannelInfo in NSS 3.66, causing its size
to increase. Since SSL_GetChannelInfo is called with
sizeof(SSLChannelInfo) and returns SECFailure when called with a larger
size than it expects, it creates a version incompatibility where
programs compiled with NSS >= 3.66 do not function correction when
loaded with NSS < 3.66, as in #989839 for thunderbird.

To avoid breakage, bump the version of SSL_GetChannelInfo, as suggested
by Sebastian Ramacher in
https://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2021/06/msg00597.html

Upstream has now fixed this issue, and I've cherry-picked the fix into the
package as a patch. I've pushed to git.d.o, so an (urgent) upload would be much
appreciated.

Merry Christmas all!

Bug#845737: New release

2016-12-02 Thread Kevin Murray
Hi Santiago,

Thanks for the bug report. I've reported this issue to upstream[1]. In the mean
time, I've recently packaged the newest upstream release. Could you please
re-run your tests (or advise me how to) for this new version.

FWIW, I have experienced issues related to POSIX semaphores when building this
package in pbuider chroots, related to a missing /dev/shm. I have never
experienced the issues you report though.

Cheers,
K

Bug#870635: mutt package is not using the official mutt tarball

2017-08-03 Thread Kevin McCarthy
Package: mutt
Version: 1.8.3+neomutt20170609-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.3

Dear Maintainer,

I am the upstream project maintainer of Mutt. Your version of the
"mutt" package in unstable and testing is based on the NeoMutt
tarball, not the official Mutt 1.8.3 release tarball.

If you wish to call your package "mutt", then you should be using the
official Mutt release tarball are your "orig" tarball for the package.
To do anything else is an unacceptable ethical and legal breach by
Debian.

You have been aware of this issue since at least June 30th, see
<https://marc.info/?l=mutt-users&m=149886522430053&w=2>. As Erik
Christiansen mentioned in that thread, while the GPLv2:

"permits derivative works, it does not permit a derivative work to
purport to be the copyrighted original work. Misrepresenting the
"debneomutt" work as "mutt" would seem to clearly contravene the
   asserted and enforcible licence."

Even if the legal argument is not airtight, doing this is insulting
and disrepectful to the Mutt project and to me as its maintainer.

Please correct this issue ASAP.

-Kevin McCarthy

Bug#841560: [Debian-med-packaging] Bug#841560: Could anybody please check the issue in python-skbio

Hi Andreas,

I've packaged the latest upstream, and uploaded. Let's see if this fixes the
build. I will also (but haven't yet) see if I can get it to build against
libssw. There are also old binary packages preventing a testing transition,
which I'm not sure how to deal with.

Well that turned out to be far easier than I expected. I've pushed a patch that
uses libssw from debian. So let's see if this fixes the build. And we also need
to remove the old binary pkgs from the archive, I think (or whatever the reason
is for the package being stuck in sid).

Bug#947745: recent version for stable-(updates|backports)

2019-12-29 Thread Kevin Price
Package: youtube-dl
Version: 2019.01.17-1.1
Severity: grave

Justification: renders package unusable

Dear maintainer,

the buster version has quit working with yt. The error message is: "YouTube
said: This video is unavailable." 2019.09.28-1 works. Due to the package's
volatility (which causes this grave bug) and given its fairly stable
dependencies, migrating recent versions into stable-updates might well be the
neatest fix to this, imho.

See also #908947.

Cheers
Kevin

Swift 4.0’s in (hopefully) final RC at the moment, so I expect to be sorting

Bug#898074: linux-image-4.9.0-6-amd64: gdb3 fails to start

2018-05-06 Thread Kevin Bube
Package: src:linux
Version: 4.9.88-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

Dear Maintainer,

after an update from linux-image-4.9.0-5-amd64 to
linux-image-4.9.0-6-amd64 gdm3 did not start anymore. The screen remains
black. However, I can still switch to a text console.

It seems that the permissions of /dev/dri/card0 changed. See below for
the end of syslog. syslog.broken is the error case, syslog.ok is the
successful case.

Thanks,

Kevin

I just encountered the same issue. For reference, this specific error
was fixed in 106948d99[1] which is included in 5.0.0. Apparently
setup.py was not updated to wsproto 0.15 due to mypy type checking
errors[2] (which I'm unable to reproduce on e01f044c). Using wsproto
0.15 with 5.0.1 has been working well for me.

Best,

Bug#357301: eclipse randomly crashes, usually at startup

2006-05-30 Thread Kevin Dalley
Suggestions on how to make eclipse work under Debian should be
included under /usr/share/doc/eclipse. This should include suggested
vm, and how to start eclipse with that vm. Please be very specific.

If eclipse crashes, then the bug should stay open, even if the eclipse
developer can't do anything about. This is really a serious problem.

Bug#368835: drupal: Execution of arbitrary files in certain Apache configurations

2006-06-01 Thread Kevin Dalley
Here is updated information on the bug. The problem takes more work
to fix than first reported.

REVISION TO DRUPAL-SA-2006-006

 * Advisory ID: DRUPAL-SA-2006-007

 * Project: Drupal core and potentially any web application that accepts
uploads.

 * Date: 2006-Jun-01

 * Security risk: highly critical

 * Impact: Drupal core

 * Exploitable from: remote

 * Vulnerability: Execution of arbitrary files

DESCRIPTION

Recently, the Drupal security team was informed of a potential exploit that
would allow untrusted code to be executed upon a successful request by a
malicious user. If a dynamic script with multiple extensions such as
file.php.pps or file.sh.txt is uploaded and then accessed from a web browser
under certain common Apache configurations, it will cause the script inside to
be executed. We deemed this exploit critical and released Drupal 4.6.7 and
4.7.1 six hours after the report was filed. The fix was to create a .htaccess
file to remove /all/ dynamic script handlers, such as PHP, from the "files"
directory.

After continuous review, however, we've found that the fix will not work in
certain Apache configurations, for example those for whom .htaccess FileInfo
overrides are disabled. We are thus releasing 4.6.8 and 4.7.2 with a more
robust .htaccess fix, as well as a Drupal core solution to the issue which will
work under all configurations. The new behavior of Drupal's upload.module is to
rename all uploaded files with multiple, non-numeric, and non-whitelisted
extensions by any other user than the administrator. For example:

file.php.pps
this is a long file.name.txt

becomes:

file.php_.pps
this is a long file.name_.txt

*Please note that the particular Apache configurations under which this exploit
is possible will affect ANY web application on the server which allows uploads
to web-accessible directories, not just Drupal.* The Drupal security team has
also contacted other projects, such as WordPress, about this issue and new
versions of their software have either already been released, or are
forthcoming.

4.7.2 also fixes a potential XSS bug with upload.module.

VERSIONS AFFECTED

- All Drupal versions before 4.6.8 and before Drupal 4.7.2.

SOLUTION

If you are running Drupal 4.6.x then upgrade to Drupal 4.6.8
[http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/drupal/files/projects/drupal-4.6.8.tar.gz].
If you are running Drupal 4.7.x then upgrade to Drupal 4.7.2
[http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/drupal/files/projects/drupal-4.7.2.tar.gz].
To patch Drupal 4.6.7 use the http://drupal.org/files/sa-2006-007/4.6.7.patch

Bug#370576: acidbase: Remote File Inclusion Vulnerabilities

2006-06-06 Thread Kevin Johnson
I have to disagree with the Severity of grave. To exploit you need
to have register_globals set to on which has not been the default in

other things. It just gets under my skin when "researchers" find

 Technical Description

Multiple vulnerabilities have been identified in Basic Analysis
and Security
Engine (BASE), which could be exploited by attackers to execute
arbitrary

commands. These flaws are due to input validation errors in the
 "base_qry_common.php", "base_stat_common.php", and
"includes/base_include.inc.php" scripts that do not validate the
"BASE_path"
parameter, which could be exploited by remote attackers to include
malicious
scripts and execute arbitrary commands with the privileges of the
web server.

Ok, now the bug has a minor severity. You are right, base is not
exploitable with the default installation of the package.

We have released 1.2.5 which fixes the issue and a number of

Yes, I am aware of it. We'll upload it in a few days. I've
submitted the

bug report to inform the security team (testing distribution has also
base 1.2.4) and to explain more in deep the changes in the 1.2.5
changelog.

Great... I appreciate it...

Well, I don't understand you Kevin. I know you are subscribed to the
package tracking system of acidbase, so I know that you receive all
the

bugs submitted to the package too. If you don't agree with the severty

The problem is that clsql_mysql.so gets linked to
libmysqlclient.so.15, but the package doesn't require this file. I'll
fix this on the new upload.

Bug#353489: rhythmbox: UI freezes and quickly becomes unusable during normal operation

2006-02-18 Thread Kevin Brown
Package: rhythmbox
Version: 0.9.3.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

This version of rhythmbox appears to be unusable. After it comes up, I
can select a song to play and begin playing it. Afterwards, any attempt
to do anything (pause the song, move to a different location in the song,
etc.) will cause the entire UI to freeze for several seconds at least,
if not permanently. And by "entire UI" I mean the whole thing, including
repainting the UI widgets when, e.g., a window is moved over it. The
song continues to play while this is occurring.

Version 0.8.8-13 doesn't have these issues at all, and I can successfully
revert rhythmbox back to that version and regain proper functionality.

It's possible this bug is somehow AMD64-specific...

I'll be reverting to 0.8.8-13 until this bug gets fixed. Going back and
forth between this version and 0.8.8-13 is quite easy, so I'll be happy
to perform any testing you might need.

That actually seems to have cleared up the problem. Interesting.

Guess you can go ahead and close this one. If I run into any further
trouble I'll file a new bug.

Thanks!

Bug#355457: fetchmail uses /var/lib/fetchmail rather than /var/run for pid file

2006-03-05 Thread Kevin Dalley
Package: fetchmail
Version: 6.3.2-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 9.1.1

fetchmail uses the file /var/lib/fetchmail/.fetchmail.pid, which is
not cleaned up on startup. A system crash causes fetchmail to believe
that it is still running, and the server is not restarted. /var/run should be
used instead.

No, having a broken kig is not the least bad solution. Linking with a

Bug#344478: slocate: does not work, "fatal error: set_path_head: path_head len <= 0: 0"

2005-12-28 Thread Kevin Lindsay
This is due to the slocate database format changing, and me forgetting to
force a remove of the database upon upgrade. The next upload will fix this.

A workaround is to just execute: /etc/cron.daily/slocate

This will recreate the database and all should be good.

Bug#346121: xemacs21: xemacs fails in X

2006-01-05 Thread Kevin Dalley
After a bit of looking around, it appears that my /etc/X11/rgb.txt was
wiped out. After reinstalling x11-common, xemacs works again. The
error is thus not as serious as I originally reported it. However,
the error reporting is quite mysterious. A better error message would
be very nice. The color should have been a bigger clue to me.

Bug#347600: konqueror will not run, hangs

2006-01-11 Thread Kevin Dalley
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.4.3-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After a recent upgrade, konqueror is no longer usable for Internet
browsing. If I open the menu item
Location->Open Location
and enter "http://bugs.debian.org";, The "Open Location - Konqueror" menu stays
open, and konqueror does not open to that location. If I enter
"http://www.salon.com";, the "Open Location" window disappears, and the
main windows shows "http://www.salon.com";, with the gear rotating.

At the same time, the epiphany browser allows viewing of these
locations.

If I attempt to type "www.salon.com" into the window, a blank white
window opens up, konqueror and the window manager freeze. The white
window normally has choices from previously entered URLs. I no longer
get responses to from button pushes, and I have to restart kdm.
Restarting the window manager does not seem to solve the problem. I'm
using kwin as the window manager.

As noted under bug 326527, this is incorrect. It happens to work
because the first entry in the array is NULL, but the thing to do to
satisfy gcc 4 is make the structure definition available. The 1.6
branch of the guile cvs has such a change.

Bug#321644: mozilla-browser: This bug is completely reproducible for me

2006-01-14 Thread Kevin Brown
Package: mozilla-browser
Version: 2:1.7.12-1
Followup-For: Bug #321644

There's a web page at work that I use occasionally that triggers this
bug every time. Recompiling with "-g -O" instead of "-g -O2" fixed it.

Since changing the optimizer flags causes the crashes in question to
disappear for me and apparently others as well, I think it's pretty clear
we're talking about an optimizer bug here. Patches to the mozilla code
probably aren't going to be as effective as simply changing the optimizer
flags to something that's more reliable.

Since a number of other platforms use -O and not -O2 (possibly for similar
reasons), the most reasonable approach here is to use -O on the amd64
architecture.

One other thing: this same optimization bug appears in gcc 3.4 as well (I
attempted to compile mozilla using gcc 3.4 but ran into the same problem).
So it's something that's been around a while.

Anyone wanna file a bug against gcc on this?

Package: mozilla

Yeah, I've confirmed this. Same problem, same solution, arrived at
independently. :-)

By the way, Teemu, your crashing problem is likely due to an optimizer
bug in gcc. Try modifying your debian/rules file and change line 41
from this:

OPTFLAGS=-g -O2 -DDEBIAN

to:

OPTFLAGS=-g -O -DDEBIAN

See bug 321644 on that issue.

This should work for now.

Welcome to inheriting a large chunk of code written by people who aren't
around anymore. ;-)

I actually did go around a long while ago and fix a lot of these types
of things, but that one didn't jump out at me. Thanks for bringing it
up.

Yeah, I can confirm. I was on vacation last week and I'm just catching

Correct. I just glanced at it and didn't test/commit that change.

I've been too busy to look at this yet. Any help would be appreciated.

I'll see if I can solicit a patch from some of the other periodic

There is now some working code in the sourceforge CVS. Please test if
you can. Feedback is welcome.

(I don't believe bidding works yet, but you can watch auctions.)

Bug#332726: mono-apache-server: mod-mono-server claims that mod_mono and xsp have different versions

2005-10-08 Thread Kevin Brown
Package: mono-apache-server
Version: 1.0.5-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Seems all the mod-mono functionality is now broken, and apache returns a
code 500 (internal server error) for all of it.

So in order to find out what was going on, I started mod-mono-server by
hand, thusly:

su www-data -c '/usr/bin/mono /usr/share/dotnet/bin/mod-mono-server.exe
  --filename /tmp/.mod_mono_server --nonstop --appconfigdir
  /etc/mono-server'

I then hit the web server (http://localhost/samples) and got the
following output:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/mono-server# su www-data -c '/usr/bin/mono
/usr/share/dotnet/bin/mod-mono-server.exe --filename /tmp/.mod_mono_server
--nonstop --appconfigdir /etc/mono-server'
mod-mono-server
Listening on: /tmp/.mod_mono_server
Root directory: /etc/mono-server
In ModMonoWorker.Run: mod_mono and xsp have different versions.

And yet, both mono-apache-server and mono-xsp packages are at 1.0.5-2!
However, the mono framework itself is now at 1.1.9.1.

In any case, this situation renders mod_mono completely dead, hence the
"grave" severity of this bug.

This bug is actually probably a dup of 303755, but the submitter of that
bug marked it as "normal" and didn't give any useful information.

Bug#332545: X error prevents wine startup

2005-10-10 Thread Kevin Locke
Although this is probably old news to everyone "in the know", this bug
appears to have been resolved upstream (as Marc Haber noted earlier).
The bugreport http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3336 seems to
suggest that it is solvable with either a patch to X.org or by updating
wine.

Bug#333038: mozart-gtk: FTBFS (Build-Depends on imlib1-dev or gdk-imlib1-dev)

2005-10-14 Thread Kevin Glynn

The latest upload of mozart-gtk, 20040429-5, now depends on
gdk-imlib11-dev so I can close this bug. However, following the
recent changes I am now unclear as to whether I should really depend
on gdk-imlib1-dev or gdk-imlib11-dev. Please advise.

This bug wasn't dropped automatically by vorlon because this package
also depends on libpng (also fixed and closed in previous upload).

Thanks for the reference, I have also noticed this from Section 12.3
of the Debian Policy:

Packages must not require the existence of any files in
/usr/share/doc/ in order to function [73]. Any files that are
referenced by programs but are also useful as stand alone
documentation should be installed under /usr/share/package/ with
   symbolic links from /usr/share/doc/package.

It seems to me that the result of these two policies is that Debian
doesn't support a system like mine that has a symbolic link from
/usr/share/doc to another directory.

That's fine by me, I now have enough space to move it back again, but
I imagine it is quite a common situation.

Unless you have an alternative suggestion I propose to just back out
the change that turned the relative link into an absolute one.

thanks for your time.

I realised I could use 'mount -bind' instead of a symbolic link
yesterday and now it all works fine with the relative links. My
regular sponsor has uploaded a new fixed package and so this bug
should be fixed real soon now.

Thanks for the offer and the help,

Which stale fasls are you talking about? Fasls distributed with the
sbcl package? It's fairly common for SBCL versions to be incompatible
with previous version fasl's, but I wouldn't consider that a bug with
SBCL unless the sbcl package itself included stale fasls.

Thanks for the additional information. Incompatible fasls from a
previous version of a lisp compile (stale fasls) are a problem with
all lisp compilers: allegro, lispworks, cmucl, clisp, and sbcl. As
time as gone on, lisp compilers have become better at recognizing
stale fasls and reporting them. But as this sbcl incident has shown,
sometimes incompatibilities are added but the fasl-version-number is
not incremented. So, while you assumption is rather reasonable these
days, it's not a very safe assumption.

Because your bug report was marked as grave ("package is not usable"),
I thought you were stating that the sbcl package itself did not work
rather than there were errors loading fasls created by previous
versions of sbcl.

I'm currently building a new version of sbcl to upload, so I've tag
the bug as pending.

Bug#297771: files missing in directory listing from smbclient 'dir' command with windows xp server

2005-03-02 Thread Kevin Dalley
Package: smbclient
Version: 3.0.10-1
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

smbclient often loses files when getting a directory listing. Using
amanda for backup with samba results in loss of data, causing
incomplete backups. The problem is most likely to be occur when
dealing with larger directories, perhaps directories with over 300 or
1000 files.

I have seen the problem on my Debian system.

Here's my test, where /Kathy/DATA/2120 WNmod/ is a large directory.

for num in 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9; do smbclient '\\puffin\c$' -U 'amanda%password'
-E -d1 -Tcan /dev/null '/Kathy/DATA/2120 WNmod/*' > /tmp/foo/foolog$num.txt
2>&1; done
for num in 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9; do diff -u /tmp/foo/foolog1.txt
/tmp/foo/foolog${num}.txt; done

The diff output includes the following, which shows 4 files which
disappeared between the 2 runs:

--- /tmp/foo/foolog1.txt2005-03-02 11:46:45.0 -0800
+++ /tmp/foo/foolog9.txt2005-03-02 11:46:46.0 -0800

The bug has been reported to the samba bugzilla list, but the bug is
important enough to be listed under Debian as well. The bug is
considered critical on the bugzilla list. I'm marking it as grave for
Debian, though I could probably justify critical.

Isn't this sort of thing what experimental is for?

I'm somewhat unfamiliar with Debian policy, but I'm a bit surprised
that this transition is happening in -unstable instead of
-experimental. I thought -experimental was where all the
distribution-breaking changes were supposed to occur...

Hmm...given the amount of breakage this transition seems to be
causing, it might be worth creating a staging distribution for the
purpose of such transitions, so that -unstable doesn't end up being
broken for extended periods of time.

Any idea how temporary this particular transition is likely to be?
It's been going on for a little while now.

I can work around it, by holding back the appropriate packages, but it
is something of a pain. I do realize that there are tradeoffs for
running in the -unstable branch, but to be honest I didn't expect the
possibility of multi-week distribution breakage to be one of them.

That's odd as the package should be identical (save for diferences in
glibc header files during compilation) between the package you got
from the distribution and the package you created locally.

Could you also verify the md5sum of the binary package you got from
the archive:

I don't think so. It doesn't involve building openmcl, it is
intermittant on kernel 2.6, and non-existant on kernel 2.4.

That's true. However, the change I made fixed a bug for a sid user
where the all package was uninstallable because the dependant any
package was not built by the autobuilder because of some lengthy
delay.

With the change I made, now sid will always have the correct packages
at all times. Having that consistent working in sid is worth
something. Is it worth the same increase in size of the archive (these
packages are quite small)? For sid users (of which there are many),
I'd say the answer is yes.

Bug#433166: totem-xine: totem stopped working after recent upgrade: no codec is known anymore

2007-07-31 Thread Kevin Brown

I was experiencing this bug as well (with totem-xine).

As with the original submitter, installing libxine1-ffmpeg fixed it.

The reason I'm replying to this is that I had to install that package
*after* I had already installed totem-xine 2.18.2-2 from -unstable.
Installing that (as an upgrade to 2.18.2-1) did not install libxine1-ffmpeg.

So it appears that this bug still isn't fixed, somehow...

Bug#451889: FIXED: netselect was unable to find a mirror

2007-11-18 Thread Kevin Schultz
Package: netselect-apt
Version: 0.3.ds1-10
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I noticed after installing a new version of Debian Etch that netselect-apt
fails with the message:

netselect was unable to find a mirror, this probably means that
you are behind a firewall and it is blocking traceroute.

It seems the Perl code within run_netselect() fails to parse the HTML of the
Debian worldwide mirror sites page at http://www.debian.org/mirror/mirrors_full
because that page no longer contains \n\n delimiters.

I resolved the problem by modifying run_netselect() to use "" instead
(highlighted):

run_netselect()
{
SEARCH="$1"
PROTO="$2"
netselect -v -s 1 $(cat "$infile" \
| perl -n -e '
$/="";
while(<>){
  next if $_ !~ /Site:/;
  if( m@'"$SEARCH"':.*@i ){
print("$1\n");
  }
}') \
| awk '{print $2}'
}

I also removed the check for Archive Architectures, since the phrase no longer
appears on the page. Perhaps this is needed, however?

I've attached a patch to this e-mail with the changes. I created it with the
following commands:

claude:~/tmp$ find old new
old
old/netselect-apt
new
new/netselect-apt

claude:~/tmp$ diff -Naur old new > netselect-apt.patch

Also, I noticed after patching netselect-apt that running netselect-apt
occassionally fails due to negative values for netselect field host->num_out,
but this is a bug for the netselect package, not netselect-apt .

Please let me know if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.

Sincerely,

Kevin

I would love to get rid of this package, it is a real pain to maintain
due to the way it generates itself from the toolchain's header files.

Before removing it, I will ask on upstream's mailing list if anyone
wants to take it forward. I expect they won't and then I will ask for
its removal.

Do you mean it can't be deleted as in the mails are still visible in KMail or

This is definitely a bug.
Does this also happen if you do "Move all messages to trash" from the folder's
context menu?

Hmm.
While KMail is not running, remove the .drafts.index file from the mail
directory and then restart KMail. Does this help?

I think 0600 is the correct one, though I also have one with 0644. My guess is
that this folder has been created at a time where there has probably been a
bug in kdelibs or somewhere else which resulted in those access flags.

sigh, are you sure you need mozart-gtk? I was hoping that nobody
used it and I could remove the package eventually.

It won't build with sid's toolchain at the moment, see bug #419692.
It builds a native extension for mozart by scanning all the gtk
headers, and this scanning is very fragile as gtk headers change.

There has also been no move upstream to update it to gtk2 and I
believe some of its dependent libraries are slated for removal before
lenny.

Anyway, I won't be able to try and build again before the end of this
month. If you can look at it and send me fixes that would be
great. :). Alternately, you could try asking on the upstream mailing
lists.

Bug#437020: apt-listbugs fails with "W: Mandatory parameter 'bug' missing in call to Debbugs::Status::get_bug_status"

2007-09-07 Thread Kevin Brown

The problem is reoccurring, but it seems it takes a specific
combination of packages to make it happen. I have no idea what's
special about that combination, but it causes the server to choke with
that error.

I can currently reproduce this with the following command:

/usr/sbin/apt-listbugs list openoffice.org-core openoffice.org-officebean

This bug clearly should be reopened.

Bug#442242: sshmenu: GNOME applet crashes while adding to the panel

2007-09-15 Thread Kevin Coyner

I just uploaded the newest version (3.14) of sshmenu. Could you
update to this newest version and let me know if you still have a
problem or not.

Also, could you try adding some other (not sshmenu) applet to the
GNOME panel and see whether you encounter the same error message.

Thanks.

excerpt from mail.log:

, relay=dspam, delay=6, delays=6/0.01/0/0.01, dsn=5.3.0, status=bounced
(Command died with status 1: "/usr/bin/dspam". Command output: /usr/bin/dspam:
/usr/lib/libmysqlclient.so.15: version
`MYSQL_5.0' not found (required by /usr/local/lib/libdspam.so.7) )

.. and this is now breaking postfix which is configured to use dspam as a
filter.
