Bug#644174: My system resumes from "suspend to disk" with FLASH disk connected to the USB 3.0 port, and starts with that disks if i915.modest=0 is given

Hi,

I've performed tests suggested by Jonathan in my system.

1st test:

I have started the system, connected the FLASH disk to the USB 3.0 port
and suspended it by "echo disk > /sys/power/state".

Then I pressed the POWER button to switch the system on again, and it
has resumed!

Similarly, the system resumed after "Hibernate" triggered from the KDE
menu.

2nd test:

With "i915.modeset=0" my system started with FLASH disk connected to the
USB 3.0 port

I attach logs (dmesg) and acpidumps after both tests.

I've forgotten to add, that the tests were performed with the newest
3.7.3 kernel.

Hi,

Below are the steps which allow me to reproduce the problem.
In the figure p1.png you can see the vertex, which I weld to close
the "hole".
After vertex selection, with the right click I select the "weld"
operation from the pop-up menu, and with the left click I select
the vertex to which I want to weld the previously chosen one (see
p2.png).
Then with the right click I finalize the welding operation (see p3.png).

If the diagnosis, that the problem is associated with sharing of IRQ 18

handling of shared interrupt by i2c-smbus.c driver is true,
then it could also explain the bug:

Bug#655152: The problem with "[drm:intel_prepare_page_flip] *ERROR* Prepared flip multiple times " has disappeared after one of latest updates

2012-03-24 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
I've just stated, that the problem with "[drm:intel_prepare_page_flip]
*ERROR* Prepared flip multiple times " filling the logs has disappeared
after one of last system upgrades.
It seems that it was the user space problem (or it has been worked
around or masked in the user space), as it does not appear even when I
boot one of old kernels (e.g. 3.2.6) in which it was present (now I
usually run kernel 3.2.11).

Bug#837751: scribus: When I try to do "get Image" for a graphics frame, scribus segfaults

2016-09-14 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
The strange thing, is that the problem occurs only in one machine.
Both machines run debian/testing. Both were updated at the same time.
The only difference I'm aware of is the video adapter - Integrated Intel
and Nvidia in the machine where the problem appeared. The integrated
Intel only in the machine where it works...

Dear Mattia,

Yes, I'm the same person. I don't know why CERN mailer does not accept
your address.
However, some time ago the same happened to my University e-mail - I
couldn't send e-mail to any CERN address.

Regarding the bug - the problem has also disappeared in the affected
system.

I'm afraid it could be caused by a partial update?
After I've performed the next "apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade", I
was not able to reprodecue this bug any more.

So probably you can mark this bug as "fixed" or even as "invalid".

With best regards,
Wojtek

Indeed, renaming of ~/.scribus has cured the problem.

I couldn't reproduce the segfault with your .sla, and if I looked up the
upstream bug tracker correctly nobody else experienced segfaults
recently.
According to the core dump the crash happens somewhere in the middle of
dbus, and I couldn't even figure how it reached that point (here gdb
says "Backtrace stopped: previous frame inner to this frame (corrupt
stack?)" after #14).

Anyway, I'm tempted to close this bug as it was really easily "fixed" by
moving away your ~/.scribus directory. probably some file in there
somehow was corrupted or got invalid data in your computer.

The reason are the lines 40-42 in the file octplot_enable.m:

error("Octplot was compiled for a different version of Octave");
  endif

The octplot will run only with octave 3.0.1, while current octave version in

which does not agree with the above code.

Bug#550477: grub-pc: after update-from-grub-legacy the system stopped booting

2009-10-10 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.97~beta3-1
Justification: renders package unusable
Severity: grave

*** Please type your report below this line ***
After I've issued the command "upgrade-from-grub-legacy", the system stopped
booting, when I press enter or select any line in the menu (if I let the
system
boot automatically after timeout - everything works...).
If I press enter, or move the highlighted line, then
i get "error: file not found" and the menu is redisplayed
I have to enter the "edit" option in the grub menu, and make the following
changes:
1. Replace "set root=(hd0,3)" with "root=(hd0,3)"
2. Add the end of line in the last line (which defines the initial ramdisk)
Only after the above adjustments I'm able to boot with ctrl+x.

Bug#567400: python-visual doesn't work with nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx, works with other video adapters

Package: nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx
Version: 96.43.14-2

When trying to use python-visual bball.py demo on a machine with
nvidia adapter requiring the nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx driver,
an error is reported (I attach the compressed error log).

...

When checking the dependencies of cvisualmodule.so and comparing it to
other, working systems, I've found the following differences:
$ ldd /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/cvisualmodule.so
[...]
 libGLcore.so.1 =>  /usr/lib/libGLcore.so.1 (0xb58ec000)
 libnvidia-tls.so.1 =>  /usr/lib/libnvidia-tls.so.1 (0xb58ea000)
[...]

...

New legacy nvidia driver packages 96.43.18-1 were just uploaded to unstable.
Please test them together with current python and python modules and see
whether the crash still happens.

Thanks

Andreas

I have downloaded:
nvidia-kernel-legacy-96xx-source_96.43.18-1_i386.deb

then I recompiled and installed the module:
nvidia-kernel-legacy-96xx-2.6.32.9_96.43.18-1+Custom_i386.deb

Then I have downloaded and installed:
libgl1-nvidia-alternatives_195.36.31-3_i386.deb
libgl1-nvidia-legacy-96xx-glx_96.43.18-1_i386.deb
libglx-nvidia-alternatives_195.36.31-3_i386.deb
nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx_96.43.18-1_i386.deb

Finally I have updated whole system. After that I have rebooted the
machine and run the vpython demo. Unfortunately, it still crashes,
producing the attached bug report.

That's a pity. The stacktrace does not include any symbols that
definitivly point to nvidia-glx. Did you try different Xorg driver, e.g. nv?

No I haven't, as 3D acceleration is essential to the task to be performed
on this machine. I have no such problems on machines with other chipsets
(exactly Intel ones - 82865G or newer).

Could someone with a similar 96xx setup try to reproduce the problem?

I just saw the following in one of the bugs you referenced in the
original report:

 From: Pietro Battiston

 Samuel, do you have libgtkglextmm-x11-1.2-dev installed?

 I get a very similar backtrace to yours on my (64 bit) system, but
 the problem disappears if I install that package.

 Pietro

Could you try this? The corresponding bug is marked as fixed-in-vcs, so
that will get fixed with the next upload of python-visual. Could this
fix your problem, too?

Maybe, in fact my python-visual is version 5.12, while the newest version on
http://vpython.org/ is 5.32

Bug#571728: openoffice.org-writer: oowriter doesn't start, tries to recover file, then fails after Java exception

2010-02-27 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
Package: openoffice.org-writer
Version: 1:3.1.1-16
Justification: renders package unusable
Severity: grave

*** Please type your report below this line ***
After lest upgrade (25.02 or 26.02) OpenOffice stopped to work on all my
systems.
When I try to run e.g. the oowriter, it displays the empty "OpenOffice.org
Document Recovery" window, and after I press "OK" it terminates.
In the console the following message is displayed:

terminate called after throwing an instance of
'com::sun::star::deployment::DeploymentException'

I've removed all OO-related directories from the home directory - It
didn't help.
The same happens to oocalc.

The problem is, that python-tz installs into /usr/share/pyshared
It seems that Python on my machine does not look for modules
in this directory.
I don't know if it is a problem specific to my machine, or common
for all up to date debian/testing systems...

Yes, simple "apt-get install python-tz --reinstall" fixed the problem.

Hi!

How do you bridge between iceweasel and jackd? Given that jackd is not a
generic desktop sound server but the underlying routing framework for
audio production environments (read: studios), you somehow need to
bridge your consumer applications (read: flash) to jackd.

Yes, this machine is used to work with jack (jackd2), ardour, zynaddsubfx,
guitarix and rakarrack, and it runs with RT-extended kernel.

There are a couple of options:

1. Use libasound2-plugins and its alsa-jack bridge

2. Use pulseaudio-module-jack, if need be, run
   "pactl load-module module-jack-sink" and then pavucontrol to
   redirect your sound to jackd

3. Use a jack-enabled libflashplugin-extrasound.

I have both libasound2-plugins and pulseaudio-module-jack installed.

If it's jack related problem, then probably it was caused by the fact,
that jack server

was not started, when I used firefox.

However I think, that in this case I should get an error message (or
even better error message box) urging me to start jackd - not just crash
of the whole firefox application...

Bug#567400: python-visual doesn't work with nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx, works with other video adapters

2010-01-28 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
Package: nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx
Version: 96.43.14-2
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

When trying to use python-visual bball.py demo on a machine with
nvidia adapter requiring the nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx driver,
an error is reported (I attach the compressed error log).
The most important line in the error report is
#7  0xb6377bcd in Gdk::GL::get_proc_address(char const*) ()
   from /usr/lib/libgdkglextmm-x11-1.2.so.0
#8  0xb63d47fd in ?? () from
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/cvisualmodule.so
No symbol table info available.

When checking the dependencies of cvisualmodule.so and comparing it to
other, working systems, I've found the following differences:
$ ldd /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/cvisualmodule.so
[...]
libGLcore.so.1 => /usr/lib/libGLcore.so.1 (0xb58ec000)
libnvidia-tls.so.1 => /usr/lib/libnvidia-tls.so.1 (0xb58ea000)
[...]
the above shared libraries are provided by the nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx
package:
$ dpkg -S /usr/lib/libGLcore.so.1
nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx: /usr/lib/libGLcore.so.1
$ dpkg -S /usr/lib/libnvidia-tls.so.1
nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx: /usr/lib/libnvidia-tls.so.1

It seems, that the reason of the problem is the fact, that
 Gdk::GL::get_proc_address(char const*) () from
 /usr/lib/libgdkglextmm-x11-1.2.so.0 tries to find the function,
which does not exist in the NVidia driver.

A few months ago, the same problem was reported in more legible way
as: "(:6536): GdkGLExt-WARNING **: Cannot open \xa0v3L.so",
but now no such info is printed.

This problem was reported by others and by me, as problem with other
packages,
but it seems that in fact it may be related to NVidia closed drivers.

Bug#581633: iceweasel: random crash when browsing in system with RT-patched kernel with jack audio

2010-05-14 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl

Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.5.9-3
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***
When browsing Internet (namely www.gazeta.pl) with Iceweasel in my
RT-patched system with jack audio (however with the jackd temporarily
disabled),

I have experienced the random crash of Iceweasel.
First look in the generated bug-report (attached) seems to suggest, that the
problem may be associated with the audio handling in Iceweasel.

Bug#600802: closed by Julien Cristau (Re: Bug#600802: xserver-xorg-video-intel: After last upgrade intel X.Org X server stopped to work on my laptop)

2010-10-20 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl

As a quick workaround I have switched to the xserver-xorg-video-vesa.

What's interesting, I didn't experienced significant drop of video
performance

(at least using glxgears to measure it ;-) ).

Bug#601558: The same problem in two other machines

2010-10-27 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl

I have similar problem in my two machines - one laptop and one desktop.
In fact after the problem appears, screen gets black and I'm not able to
ssh into these machines to get any logs.
I have reported more details to lkml:
http://lkml.org/lkml/2010/10/26/466
http://lkml.org/lkml/2010/10/27/60

As a workaround I had to switch to "vesa" driver, however with this
driver the

external VGA output in my laptop doesn't work correctly (the media projector
displays too dark and slightly too wide image).

Bug#601558: Yet another comment regarding this bug and 593432

2010-10-27 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
The Submitter of this bug report mentioned that it may be "resurrected"
bug #593432.
In fact the 593432 has been "fixed" by either disabling (in config file)
or blacklisting KMS for some chipsets.

Now the authors of xserver-xorg-video-intel made KMS mandatory,
so all users of the problematic chipsets (in my case 82865G and 945GM)
have run into the same problem again :-(.

Bug#600802: SOLVED! CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE=y solved the problem

2010-10-30 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
Yes, it was a kernel configuration related bug (it was submitted by
someone alse as bug 601558)

The problem id that when KMS is switched on (at least in
Intel chipsets) the support for framebuffer console must be also
switched on.

I ve set two options in my kernel configuration:
CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE_ROTATION=y

Now the system boots correctly with KMS switched on.

Bug#601973: qemu <0.12 (with kqemu support) should be available as a separate package

2010-10-31 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl

Package: qemu
Version: 0.12.5+dfsg-2
Severity: wishlist

QEMU 0.12.x has dropped support for kqemu. This has left users of system
with CPU without hardware virtualization support without possibility
to run QEMU with acceleration.
As it seems, there is no possibility to have kqemu support reintroduced to
the mainstream QEMU, I'd like to suggest keeping the older, ver.<0.12 QEMU
in another package (qemu-old, qemu-legacy, qemu-kqemu?) which could
installed in parallel with the new one.

Bug#564745: It seems, that 552567 is the same bug - also related to the NVIDIA adapter

2010-01-11 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
I've just stated, that the bug which I've reported may be the same as
552567. The common fact is the use of NVIDIA graphics adapter with
proprietary driver...

Maybe the 555974 is also the same problem? I have sent additional
details about 555974, but after one update (I don't remember when) the
system stopped to complain about "(:6536): GdkGLExt-WARNING **:
Cannot open \xa0v3L.so" and only generates the crash report, which I've
reported as 564745.

Bug#482356: avr-binutils 2.20-2 in debian/testing are still lacking coff-avr support

2010-01-01 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
The coff-avr support is needed for testing of AVR code with VMLAB (
http://www.amctools.com/vmlab.htm ).
Unfortunately, the version 2.20-2 , which is available in testing still
lacks this support.
I have to use the avr-objcopy extracted from the old 2.18 version of
avr-binutils to generate coff from elf.

Bug#550702: Similar problem with HP/Compaq nx7300

2009-11-18 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
I had similar problem with HP/Compaq nx7300. Booting linux (even
different versions of kernel) didn't cause any trouble.
Booting Windows XP Home (installed automatically by os-prober) caused
grub to hang immediately after displaying "Welcome to GRUB!"

Maybe either grub-ps, or os-prober should detect such dual-booting
situation and automatically propose the workaround with:
# install-mbr /dev/sda
# grub-install --force /dev/sdaX
?

Bug#504774: foomatic-filters: Old workaround - problem isolated

2009-11-19 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
Package: foomatic-filters
Version: 4.0-20090509-1
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***
I have found the reason why the old workaround stopped to work.
The problematic line in the error_log is:
D [19/Nov/2009:21:39:42 +0100] [Job 1162] Starting renderer with command: gs
-dFirstPage=1  -q -dBATCH -dPARANOIDSAFER -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=hl1250
-dEconoMode=2 -dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=595 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=842 -r600x600
-dSourceTray=2 -sOutputFile=- -c '/Default << /SpotFunction { 180 mul cos exch
180 mul cos add 2 div } bind /HalftoneType 1 /AccurateScreens true /Frequency
137 /Angle 37 /HalftoneName (Round Dot Screen) >> /Halftone defineresource
sethalftone << /HalftoneMode 1 /UseWTS false /Accura -f
/var/spool/cups/tmp/foomatic-ynzpH8

I've tried to run this command by hand:
$ gs -dFirstPage=1  -q -dBATCH -dPARANOIDSAFER -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=hl1250
-dEconoMode=2 -dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=595 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=842 -r600x600
-dSourceTray=2 -sOutputFile=- -c '/Default << /SpotFunction { 180 mul cos exch
180 mul cos add 2 div } bind /HalftoneType 1 /AccurateScreens true /Frequency
137 /Angle 37 /HalftoneName (Round Dot Screen) >> /Halftone defineresource
sethalftone << /HalftoneMode 1 /UseWTS false /Accura -f
/var/spool/cups/tmp/foomatic-ynzpH8 > tt.bin
>
Which as you can see hangs waiting for matching "'".
The correct command should be:
$gs -dFirstPage=1  -q -dBATCH -dPARANOIDSAFER -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=hl1250
-dEconoMode=2 -dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=595 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=842 -r600x600
-dSourceTray=2 -sOutputFile=- -c '/Default << /SpotFunction { 180 mul cos exch
180 mul cos add 2 div } bind /HalftoneType 1 /AccurateScreens true /Frequency
137 /Angle 37 /HalftoneName (Round Dot Screen) >> /Halftone defineresource
sethalftone << /HalftoneMode 1 /UseWTS false /Accura ' -f
/var/spool/cups/tmp/foomatic-ynzpH8 > tt.bin

Which generates the proper binary for my printer.
So the problem must be somewhere where the above command line for gs execution
is generated

Bug#504774: foomatic-filters: Old workaround - reason of failure found

2009-11-19 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
Package: foomatic-filters
Version: 4.0-20090509-1
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***
I have found the reason why the old workaround has stopped working.

The file currently available at:
http://www.linuxprinting.org/ppd-o-matic.cgi?driver=hl1250&printer=Brother-HL-1430&show=0
(suggested in the old workaround) is currently damaged.
Probably a few days ago I have reconfigured the printer and downloaded the PPD
from www.linuxprinting.org .

Its lines 250 to 270 look like this:

*OpenUI *HalftoningAlgorithm/Halftoning Algorithm: PickOne
*FoomaticRIPOption HalftoningAlgorithm: enum CmdLine C
*OrderDependency: 1000 PageSetup *HalftoningAlgorithm
*DefaultHalftoningAlgorithm: Standard
*HalftoningAlgorithm Accurate/Accurate: "%% FoomaticRIPOptionSetting:
HalftoningAlgorithm=Accurate"
*FoomaticRIPOptionSetting HalftoningAlgorithm=Accurate: " -c '/De&&
fault << /SpotFunction { 180 mul cos exch 180 mul cos add 2 div &&
} bind /HalftoneType 1 /AccurateScreens true /Frequency 137 /Angle 37 &&
/HalftoneName (Round Dot Screen) >> /Halftone defineresource set&&
halftone << /HalftoneMode 1 /UseWTS false /Accura"
*End
*HalftoningAlgorithm Standard/Standard: "%% FoomaticRIPOptionSetting:

*FoomaticRIPOptionSetting HalftoningAlgorithm=Standard: ""
*HalftoningAlgorithm WTS/Well-Tempered Screening: "%% FoomaticRIPOptionSetting:

*FoomaticRIPOptionSetting HalftoningAlgorithm=WTS: " -c '/Default&&

toneName (Round Dot Screen) >> /Halftone defineresource sethalft&&
one << /HalftoneMode 1 /UseWTS true /Accurat"
*End
*CloseUI: *HalftoningAlgorithm

As you can seem the FoomaticRIPOptionSetting definitions are truncated.

The right way to go is to use the
/usr/share/ppd/openprinting.org-gs/Brother/Brother-HL-1430-hl1250.ppd.gz
provided by the foomatic-filters-ppds package.
This file (at least today - the version Version: 20080528-2.1) contains
the correct PPD (lines 245-271):

*OpenGroup: Adjustment/Adjustment

Please do not "upgrade" the PPD Brother-HL-1430-hl1250.ppd in
foomatic-filters-ppds to the current version from
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Brother-HL-1430 ,
as it is obviously damaged!

Anyway the above diagnosis does not solve the problem with not working
bundled driver for HL-1430.
It only reenables the old workaround :-(.

Bug#543923: It is easy to compile guitarix as a debian package from the original sources.

2009-11-24 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
I've downloaded the sources of the newest Guitarix:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/guitarix/files/guitarix/guitarix-0.05.1-1/guitarix-0.05.1-1.tar.bz2/download
and unpacked it into the temporary directory.
In the README file I have found the following description:

[...]
 Debian
To build a Debian package, run "dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b"
[...]

However then I've got the following error message:

waf configure --prefix=/usr
make: waf: Command not found
make: *** [configure-stamp] Error 127
dpkg-buildpackage: error: debian/rules build gave error exit status 2

Obviously the system is not able to locate the "waf" program located in the
directory into which I've unpacked the sources.
To avoid this I've temporarily added the current directory to the PATH:

$ PATH=.:$PATH dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b

The above command has successfully built the working debian package:
guitarix_0.05.1-1_i386.deb

Bug#560212: alsa-source: Driver snd-hrtimer - causing system freeze with Rosegarden

2009-12-09 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
Package: alsa-source
Version: 1.0.21+dfsg-2
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

When I try to use the "HR timer" as a MIDI sequencer timer in the
Rosegarden (http://www.rosegardenmusic.com) application, the system
freezes. Another people also reported similar problems with other
sequencer - OpenOctave (
https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&p=8917 )

I have tested the problem on two SMP machines with diffrent kernels
(2.6.30, 2.6.31.6, 2.6.32).
The problem seems to be associated with the "snd-hrtimer" module.
I've tried to run the application vie remote X session, while having the
text console active.
Before the machine froze, the following messages have been displayed in
the console:

System 1 (Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz HT)

hrtimer: interrupt too slow, forcing clock min delta to 3568 ns

System 2 (Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5500  @ 1.66GHz)
hrtimer: interrupt too slow, forcing clock min delta to 11103 ns
CE: hpet increasing min_delta_ns to 15000 nsec
CE: hpet increasing min_delta_ns to 22500 nsec
CE: hpet increasing min_delta_ns to 33750 nsec

Analyzing the problem, I had an idea, that maybe the snd-hrtimer should
be rewritten to call
the callback via tasklet (I attach my patch only as an ilustration, my
code doesn't work either),
 however then I got the message "BUG: scheduling while atomic" or
something like this
 from the snd_hrtimer_stop function called from _snd_timer_stop.
Therefore I've tried to investigate the snd_hrtimer_stop more thoroughly.

Looking further into the code, I have found, that snd_hrtimer_stop may
be called
from the callback routine (e.g.:
http://lxr.linux.no/linux+v2.6.32/sound/core/timer.c#L709 or
http://lxr.linux.no/linux+v2.6.32/sound/core/timer.c#L719 )

It seems to me, that calling hrtimer_cancel (in the original code),
which waits for the handler to finish,
from that handler may lock the machine...
(snd_hrtimer_callback calls the snd_timer_interrupt:
http://lxr.linux.no/linux+v2.6.32/sound/core/hrtimer.c#L47
which in turn calls snd_hrtimer_stop (as above) which calls hrtimer_cancel).

Unfortunately currently I have no idea how to fix this problem. Maybe
snd_hrtimer_stop shouldn't try to cancel the timer,
instead setting a flag causing callback to return immediately without
rearming of the timer?

Bug#626918: The problem disappeared, when I recompiled python-visual from source package

2011-05-25 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl

I have simply performed in a temporary directory:

$ apt-get source python visual
$ cd python-visual-5.12
$ fakeroot dpkg-buildpackage
$ cd ..
$ su -c " dpkg -i python-visual_5.12-1.1_i386.deb "

And problem disappeared.
However the dependency of cvisualmodule.so has changed to:
libboost_python-py26.so.1.46.1 =>
/usr/lib/libboost_python-py26.so.1.46.1 (0xb5f15000)

Bug#904493: Cause of the error found, proposal of solution

2018-07-24 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
The source of the problem is obviously the implementation of the
getJavaVersion function (in Utils.Java).
It does not accept Java 11 that reports its version as a two character
string "11":

    /**
 * Returns the main version number of the current JRE, e.g.
 * 1.4 for version 1.4.2_03
 */
    public static double getJavaVersion() {
    String vm_version = System.getProperty("java.version");
    if (vm_version == null)
        return Double.NaN;

    if (vm_version.startsWith("1.4.2"))
        return 1.42;
    else
        vm_version = vm_version.substring(0, 3);
    try {
        return Double.parseDouble(vm_version);
    } catch (Exception e) {
        return Double.NaN;
    }
    }

I'd suggest modification of the above function so, that truncates the
string at the second point (if it exists) and then converts the string
to the number.

Regards,
Wojtek

I have checked, that other terminals available in MATE like

I press backspace in the empty commandline.

Yes, I do agree. However I think that the important news for other
affected users is that removal of ~/.gtkrc-2.0 (if exists) may help.
Otherwise the user would be forced to wipe his account...

Dear Jonas,

Thanks a lot for your suggestions.

That's interesting. Of course, I have cleaned up the ~/.config/ardour4
and ~/.config/ardour5 directories before submitting the first report,
and it didn't help.

However indeed, when I logged in as another user, ardour started correctly.

I have dumped the whole strace output with : "strace -o
/tmp/ardour_strace.txt ardour5"
And then I've checked what config files are read before the first
access("/usr/share/themes/Breeze/gtk-2.0/widgets/../assets/check-unchecked.png",
F_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)

The problematic file was:
open("/home/wzab/.gtkrc-2.0", O_RDONLY) = 11
with the following content:

===
include "/usr/share/themes/Breeze/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"
style "user-font"
{
    font_name="Noto Sans Regular"
}
widget_class "*" style "user-font"
gtk-font-name="Noto Sans Regular 10"
gtk-theme-name="Breeze"
gtk-icon-theme-name="breeze"
gtk-fallback-icon-theme="gnome"
gtk-toolbar-style=GTK_TOOLBAR_ICONS
gtk-menu-images=1
gtk-button-images=1
===

After I have renamed that file to "/home/wzab/.gtkrc-2.0.deleted" , the
problem disappeared.
So the problem probably indeed is not ardour related (however I don't
know why only ardour suffers from that).

Regards,
Wojtek

PS. Is it possible that
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=874598 is caused by
the same problem?

Bug#891039: libusbip: error: port number exceeds 128

2018-02-21 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
Package: usbip
Version: 2.0+4.14.13-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

When I try to access the USB devices exported with usbip from another
machine,
even before I try to access the remote usbip server I gaet the strange
error:

# modprobe vhci-hcd
# usbip port
libusbip: error: port number exceeds 128
usbip: error: open vhci_driver
usbip: error: list imported devices

Of course I'm not able to attach any device.

# usbip attach -b 4-1 -r 192.168.0.82
libusbip: error: port number exceeds 128
usbip: error: open vhci_driver
usbip: error: query

Even though the device is visible for my machine:
# usbip list -r 192.168.0.82
Exportable USB devices

I have attempted to attach the device to the virtual machine (Knoppix

a problem with the current version of Debian/testing.

Bug#891036: Even after updating "usbip" to usbip_2.0+4.15.4-1_amd64.deb problem remains

2018-02-21 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
I have also updated the "usbip" package to version
usbip_2.0+4.15.4-1_amd64.deb

However, the problem with the number of ports still exists:

# usbip port
libusbip: error: port number exceeds 128
usbip: error: open vhci_driver
usbip: error: list imported devices

Bug#891036: The problem is related to the number of ports created in vhci_hcd.0

2018-02-22 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
On the system where I have installed the 4.15.xxx kernel and usbip from
Debian/sid, I get the following results from "usbip --debug port":

[...]
usbip: debug: names.c:428:[parse] line 18068 subclass fe:02 IRDA Bridge
usbip: debug: names.c:428:[parse] line 18069 subclass fe:03 Test and

libusbip: debug: vhci_driver.c:264:[usbip_vhci_driver_open] available
ports: 240
libusbip: error: port number exceeds 128
usbip: error: open vhci_driver
usbip: error: list imported devices

The line where the condition is checked is
https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/v4.15.4/source/tools/usb/usbip/libsrc/vhci_driver.c#L263

vhci_driver
->nports =
get_nports ();
dbg ("available
ports: %d", vhci_driver
->nports);

if (vhci_driver
->nports <= 0) {
err("no available ports");
goto err;
} else if (vhci_driver
->nports > MAXNPORT
) {
err("port number exceeds %d", MAXNPORT
);
goto err;
}

Maybe the viable workaround would be just to increase the MAXNPORT number?

Bug#891036: The problem is related to the number of ports created in vhci_hcd.0

2018-02-22 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
In fact I don't understand how the vhci_hcd is supposed to work.

The constants are defined as follows:
https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/v4.15.4/source/drivers/usb/usbip/vhci.h#L75

/* Number of supported ports. Value has an upperbound of USB_MAXCHILDREN */
#ifdef CONFIG_USBIP_VHCI_HC_PORTS
#define VHCI_HC_PORTS CONFIG_USBIP_VHCI_HC_PORTS
#else
#define VHCI_HC_PORTS 8
#endif

/* Each VHCI has 2 hubs (USB2 and USB3), each has VHCI_HC_PORTS ports */
#define VHCI_PORTS    (VHCI_HC_PORTS*2)

#ifdef CONFIG_USBIP_VHCI_NR_HCS
#define VHCI_NR_HCS CONFIG_USBIP_VHCI_NR_HCS
#else
#define VHCI_NR_HCS 1
#endif

#define MAX_STATUS_NAME 16

Then in the line
https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/v4.15.4/source/drivers/usb/usbip/vhci_hcd.c#L46
we can see:

int vhci_num_controllers = VHCI_NR_HCS;

But, when I have unpacked the sources of the Debian kernel:

("apt source usbip" downloads and unpacks the kernel sources)

In the debian/config/config I can see:

CONFIG_USBIP_CORE=m
CONFIG_USBIP_VHCI_HCD=m
CONFIG_USBIP_VHCI_HC_PORTS=15
CONFIG_USBIP_VHCI_NR_HCS=8
CONFIG_USBIP_HOST=m

So the number of created controllers is equal to 8, and for each
controller there are 30 ports created (2 * 15)

That results in 240 ports, that is above the MAXNPORT number defined in

https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/v4.15.4/source/tools/usb/usbip/libsrc/vhci_driver.h#L16
#define MAXNPORT 128

To obtain the working configuration it is necessary either to increase
the MAXNPORT to 240 or even to 256 or to decrease the
CONFIG_USBIP_VHCI_NR_HCS to 4

Bug#891036: Workaround found, the problem is with Debian configuration of kernel

2018-02-22 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
I have recompiled the kernel with modifed settings:

In the debian/config/config I have changed:
from
CONFIG_USBIP_VHCI_NR_HCS=8
to
CONFIG_USBIP_VHCI_NR_HCS=4

After installing the modified kernel I was able to get my remote device
attached and it worked correctly.

Probably the problem could be also solved by increasing the  MAXNPORT
from 128 to  240 or even to 256 in tools/usb/usbip/libsrc/vhci_driver.h
(modifying the kernel sources instead of the Debian configuration), but
I have not verified yet if that approach works.

Bug#891036: Proposal - how to make usbip more resistant to misconfiguration

2018-02-22 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
Hi,

I have found that the
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=891036 is not the only
one related to misconfiguration of the usbip driver and tools.
A few weeks ago the similar bug
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=878866 was discovered.
It seems that the configuration of usbip is fragile, and it is easy to
make a mistake leading to the setup that doesn't work correctly.
I suppose, that additional mechanisms should be added to prevent such
problems:

 1. It should be checked DURING THE COMPILATION, that the number of
ports in a single virtual hub does not exceed 128.
 2. The MAXNPORT constant in tools/usb/usbip/libsrc/vhci_driver.h should
be defined as:
#define MAXNPORT ( VHCI_PORTS * VHCI_NR_HCS )

I have not tested the above modifications. If I find some time to verify
them, and if they are correct, I'll submit the official patches.

With best regards,
Wojtek
