Thank you Steve, as you said, /etc/shadow doesn't have $1$ or $6$.
It contains few alphabets followed by colon and numbers (sorry I'm new to
linux).
I changed the password using passwd
but still /etc/shadow contains the same characters. (alphabets and
numbers).

I discovered the exact same problem as gmayer. that is,
gdal 1.4.4 as packaged by Ubuntu Hardy 8.04LTS gives a segmentation
fault upon attempting to use netcdf files.
Since i am not a Linux expert I dont know how to fix this independently
- I hope this is fixed in an update soon.

Ok I have solved the problem and its not a bug. I just removed the DVD-
ROM of Ubuntu 8.10 from software source
(System->Administartion->Software sources). And also added all the
online repositories. Now the problem doesnot exist, though I didn't try
to update.

1. It clearly takes 1-2 minutes between the BIOS and GRUB. I have
attached the image. Here the monitor remains blank and the monitor's LED
blinks.
2. Mind here, this problem occurs only on restarts and not while turning
on the computer for the first time.
3. I have never come across this problem
I reinstalled Feisty [removed Gutsy] and the problem still persists. So,
I guess its not an Ubuntu issue. Any suggestions on why this is
happening? Is something wrong with my BIOS configuration or is it a
hardware problem?

Yes, I did experiment a lot. I removed Ubuntu entirely and ran Windows.
I did have the same problem. So, its clearly a hardware or BIOS issue!

OK, some progress! When I did a package update it got the thjaeger3
version, then I only restarted X (gdm). Now the taps were also going to
the right locations and the cursor following the pen movements! Except
the calibration was off a little. So I tried running the calibrate tool
and it would imm

I'm running Jaunty (alpha3-ish) on an HP Pavilion tx1302au tablet PC.
The calibrate tool that comes with xf86-input-evtouch 0.8.8-ubuntu1 runs
but does not seem to detect mouse position, only the taps are
registered.

Can this bug be converted into a wishlist?
i.e. the installer should not go online if it detects a network
connection without first prompting/asking (or user selecting a checkbox
during configuration)... yes, the installer can mention its for
important security updates but still leave the choice t

I'm testing Jaunty amd64 on an HP Pavilion tx1302au tablet PC and
noticed this package would not install even though it was updated for
new Xorg server version. Found the build link above
I'm hoping 0.7.x (and related packages) might be included in Jaunty with
its new UI and all...

I tried installing from your PPA xserver-xorg-input-evtouch based on
xf86-input-evtouch - 0.8.8-0ubuntu2+thjaeger1 but the same problem
occurs. While calibration (and also during normal use) the min/max/x/y
numbers printed on screen don't change when tapping/moving the stylus
around, the taps thems
I got no clue. Re-installed Jaunty Alpha 5 afresh then installed
bootchart and still see the same problem... nevermind, this isn't a
critical issue.

Did a fresh reinstall of Jaunty alpha 5, the evtouch package isn't
updated and I still see the problem. I'm hoping now that Xorg is stable
at 1.6 released the evtouch package will be fixed any time now.

I had to comment out the cleanup of bootchart.tgz in the init script,
now attaching current dmesg, chart image and tgz files... thanks a lot

intrepid alpha4 (amd64) and updated it to get the latest and greatest
kernel .27-2
by default the wl restricted driver is installed enabled but does not
show up in network manager.
