 From the pgn standard I learnt that you are right. There is not even a 
suggestion for a visual representation.

But I think you missed my point (or, rather, I failed to make it), in 
that the dialogue (suggesting "++-") and the implementation (requiring 
"+--") are not consistent. So my text was just an invitation to make a 
choice.

I think I feel a slight preference for "++-" (and "-++"). Having said 
that, we may not have that much choice, actually. We should at least 
continue to "understand" what is we have now ("+--" and "--+")  as these 
symbols can be found in PGN stuff that we currently export. We could add 
some alternative to this (or should correct the informant value dialogue 
text).
