I think we should add a dialogue here that pops up once the repertoir 
editor is called to tell the user it is deprecated and that (s)he should 
use masks instead. I'll extend the help for masks here, I think. I do 
not know how many people have a lot of work in the repertoir editor, it 
is around for a while, I'd vote for a smoother migration.

One difficulty is, that I can not call up "the feature" as such as it 
involves a bunch of menus in the tree window.

You also mentioned that the opening trainer should be removed. I'd go 
for a similar approach here as well, but I admit that till now I did not 
understand how you replace it actually. May you give me a pointer here? 
Do you think that playing against a database is a better approach?
