Dale, very very true, yes. And I should have mentioned this primarily. Scid 4.x understands both si3 and si4 formats, but (regrettably, if I may say so) converts any opened si3 base to si4. The new si4 base cannot be opened by Scid 3.x. So, indeed, one cannot do without backing up before experimenting.
