If I remember correctly Pascal once converted everything to UTF, then it was discovered that things were broken in some circumstances so the files were reverted back to non-utf. Concerning file endings: I think one could drop the windows \r, indeed. Concerning patching for fedora: are these patches that are compatible with the rest of the world and can be included in the source or is this really fedora only?
