IIRC the alleged point behind 2bdd7d7cbd77b13abf512bb919abe7f0537a2c45 (but not
documented there) was to avoid a by-default dependency on systemd. That
would've been a reasonable position 15 years ago perhaps, but its ubiquitous in
Linux land now, so there's no "extra dependency" really.
