Maybe off-topic, but: this is totally under your control. You can just  
install either one if you want. You could run things like 'yum remove  
e2fsprogs.i386' if you like. I like to run the following on my 64-bit  
systems so rpm shows the arch when you run things like rpm -q:

        echo "%_query_all_fmt %%{name}-%%{version}-%%{release}.%%{arch}" >> / 
etc/rpm/macros
