I am having the same problem. Only my Cd is a firewire device. I manually loaded the ide-scsi module and it doesn't help. I did find /dev/sbpcd, which is a link to sbpcd0. All of the sbpcdX give me the same error message you are getting.

If anyone helps you with your issue, I hope that it will resolve mine as well.

The command I used to get this message was "mount /dev/sbpcd /mnt/cd2", cd2 being a directory I created.
I see during boot that the ohci1394 module gets loaded. This is the ieee1394 driver. The CD shows up as a node.
