For the best way to do this check out the htmlview script:
less /usr/bin/htmlview
The first couple paragraphs tell you how to customize your browser
preference.
Here is a copy of it:
# - Allow users to override default settings in
# ~/.htmlviewrc and /etc/htmlview.conf.
# Users can define X11BROWSER, TEXTBROWSER and
# CONSOLE variables to indicate their preferences.
For example, this is my .htmlviewrc (I like galeon):
X11BROWSER="/usr/bin/galeon"
TEXTBROWSER="/usr/bin/lynx"
CONSOLE="/usr/bin/lynx"
