No way. I do want security updates. I do not want a functioning computer of mine being broken by feature updates without my deciding to do so and budgeting the time to fix them. For example, the recent apache has a new configuration file. It seems that my old configuration file was still compatible, but even still, I spent considerable time yesterday merging my version of the configuration file with the new one, in part to stay in sync, and in part to better understand what the changes were and whether my configuration really was still functional. There is no way that Red Hat can ship a new configuration file that already has my changes in it. There is no way features can be added without changes being needed to such files. When a big new release comes out I want the option of deciding whether and when to install it, I don't want my up to date system to already be a buggy version of the new release. Right now it is quite safe to install Red Hat's updates on running machines that need to be dependable. If Red Hat did what you suggest it would not safe to install them--and with security updates it is not safe to not install them. For getting real work done there is no choice here. If, however, you do want the latest and greatest as soon as it comes out, you do have that option from several directions, you are not in the cold. But Red Hat is not one of those options, and thank God for that. -kb, the Kent who tries to be careful about what he wishes for. -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=unsubscribe https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
