Check with the command : dmesg or cat /var/log/boot.log and see if there's a line with
something like hda, hdb for ide drive or sdb for scsi

Objet : Installing a 40gb HDD

Hi there

I have just installed a 40gb fat32 HDD on my new Redhat8.0 system, but the device does
not show on my list of devices in X.
How can I check if the system can see the drive at all.

When I do a mount -t vfat I get a bad superblock or too many drives mounted error.I
only have one other drive mounted with 3 partitions.

Thanx in advance
LeRoux
