I've run it from NT via a slow LAN to my home machine. It worked about
as fast as could be expected under the circumstances.

With older versions, yes.

That should be controlled by the server itself.

It's slower, but not that much. On a slow link you can't even tell the
difference.

Not sure. I would imagine it works fine. It's always dependent upon the
machine doing the serving.
